I recently just purchased a 97 celica st limited edition. I am in love with everything about it except one thing. The seat belts only retract when I turn the car off.... As long as the car is running the seat belts will not retract at all. Once I turn it off the seat belt instantly pulls tight. I'm at a loss and have tried searching online but have not found anything.

View 9 RepliesDad's truck 2012 regular cab. Seat belt doesn't like to retract on it's own. The retracter(next to your left butt cheek) works fine, or so it seems. The belt seems to get caught in the swivel mount above your shoulder. I've tried a piece of sand paper in between the belt and the plastic but it doesn't work any better. Is there a way to adjust the retracter? Looking for a solution before we close the buckle in the door frame and have bigger issues...

Also, the seat belt chime. I take off my belt once I get in a parking lot, and the chime is annoying as hell.
We religiously wear seat belts on the road. BUT, on my 4WD Tacoma, driving around a farm they are not needed. Can you simply unplug the underseat sensor to defeat the annoying chime and yet not disable the airbag system?

- If I turn off the car with the door open, it retracts all the way.
Why does it do this? My routine is to take out the keys then open the door, and it always results in the steering wheel about half way retracted.

View 6 RepliesWe recently purchased our 17 year old son a 97 celica, Problem, when he goes out in the morning to start it, it sounds like a is belt squealing really really bad. We changed the tensioner and it stopped for about a week and then returned. We sprayed the belt with belt dressing to determine which belt it was, one at a time, it was the one that goes to the alternator, so we put a new belt on it, the sound stopped this time for a few days and returned.
This happens whether it is wet or dry, but seems to be worse when dry. The sound lasts for a few minutes and usually goes away. I thought it sounded (the actual sound) like power steering. The sound does get worse when we turn the steering wheel, then when the steering wheel is straightened it goes away. My son said now it periodically will do it will drive for no apparent reason and go away.
Need to replace fuel pump. How do I remove seat bottoms.
