Celica :: Growling Noise And Wheel Vibrates At Above 70 Mph
Jun 10, 2014
My 97 Celica 1.8L has 190K miles on it. Recently it has developed growling noise when speed goes around 60 mph and intermittent front wheel vibration when goes above 70 mph. The vibration comes and goes by itself and most of the time is on slight left turn on highway. I replaced the stabilizer bars last year and the vibration went away but now it came back again. I can't pin point if the growling noise is from front or rear end. I plan to replace timing belt, water pump, lower ball joints and tie rod. What else I should do to get rid of noise and vibration.

I have 2007 Camry LE with about 88K miles on it. I get the growling noise from the read right wheel, particularly when turning right. I can very clearly hear it inside. Interestingly, this happens only first couple of times after I pull it off from parking.
I recently had the brakes and rotors replaced but the noise did not start coming until a couple of weeks later. I suspected it must have something to do with tires so I got them rotated. But that didn't stop the noise.
Initially, when I first heard the noise about 2 months back, it was very seldom but now it's almost everyday. When I got the tires rotated, I was told that I needed the rear wheels aligned. (But if it's due to alignment issue, shouldn't be coming from both wheels?)

My '02 has a growling noise only when I turn the wheel to the left. It doesn't seem to matter if it's turned slightly to the left or all the way, the noise is the same and you can feel it in the floor and wheel. If the wheel is straight or turned to the right, there isn't a noise at all. The growl is speed related and seems to be noticeable from 5mph and up. Does this sound like the typical power steering module when it's about to fail?
I took a video while driving to show the steering wheel, speedo and you could hear the growl as I turned the wheel, but I wasn't able to attach it to this message. I did get the PS error on the MFD 2 times in the last 2 weeks. What does the power steering module look like and how tough is it for a DIY'er to replace?

Have an 06 2WD Explorer with 80,000mi and when driving down highway there is a bit of growling noise when any pressure is applied to the steering wheel. When driving straight not moving steering wheel its quite but when going around corner or curve tends to make noise. What I should be looking for? Brakes were replaced 10K miles ago. Ball joints or wheel bearings?

2000 Corolla - "growling" noise on the passenger side of the engine / stops when I turn the steering wheel - no loss of PS fluid (I also flushed the system) - which bearing(s) might be bad...?

So 2 weeks ago I noticed that after 30 minutes of driving on the highway my steering wheel started making a loud growling noise and vibrating really hard! When I hit the brakes it got worse but got better as I slowed to 30 mph. It doesn't happen all the time and not right away, only after a while of driving and the dealership says without codes they can do nothing...

I have a vibration that rattles the cab of the car during start up. But if you get out, lift the hood and listen, you cant hear anything. Its only in the cab where you can even tell there's something not right. The motor runs great and seems very smooth to the touch and visually.
The vibration does seem to go down as the car warms up..... Somewhat....You can hear the vibration when driving and go down through slight dips in the road. Kinda like hitting the rumble strips on the side of the hwy. When I release the clutch and under power the vibrations go away. Under deceleration the vibrations are loud. After weeks of research, both TN and the web, I have done all this so far.
Changed Plugs, wires, cap. All four engine mounts were taken out, inspected, and 3 of the 4 were replaced from a donor car. All 4 looked good anyways....
Swapped harmonic balancer/pully from a donor car.
Compression check. 196 200 200 208
Cleaned IAC valve.
Pulled off exhaust manifold and verified CAT isnt broken.
Inspected exhaust from front to back and cant find anything.
Replace timing belt, tensioner bearing and idler bearing while I was in there.
Took both fan belts off and ran car to see if maybe power steering or AC, but car still rattled even though they weren't turning.
Did head gasket while building this car up because it was leaking oil from the front return tube area.

I have a 2005 Explorer XLT with the 4.0L V6 and AdvanceTrac.
I've had a worsening growl in the front end that sounds like it's coming from the front left wheel. I can feel it in the steering wheel, and the sound goes away when I turn the wheel right of center. Center (going straight) or leftward steering, and the noise comes right back.
I changed the wheel bearing today, and there is absolutely no change in symptoms. Turning the CV shaft back and forth by hand, something feels kind of "grindy." It is the same at any point along the shaft, which has me worried that the bad bearing is in the front differential.

I just purchased a very clean 2008 with 32K miles on it to replace my 2011 Sonata SE that has a suspension too harsh for my wife's bad back and neck. It was a one owner, driven by a little old lady in Santa Fe, NM. She is no longer able to drive and her husband didn't need to keep the car. This was a private purchase, not dealer/CPO.
During my highway test drive, I noticed a little vibration in the steering wheel above 60 mph but couldn't go much faster since I was in town and there was lots of traffic. I attributed that to nearly 6-year old Bridgestone Turanza tires in pretty poor shape. So right after purchasing I put a set of Michelin Primacy MXV4 on it. I got onto the highway later that day and at about 65 mph, a vibration in the steering wheel shows up. It seems somewhat inconsistent in that if I am accelerating or decelerating, the vibration comes and goes through the 65 - 75 mph range. I have not driven above 75 to see what happens to the vibration.

Whenever i hit speeds between 65-75 mph my steering wheel starts to vibrate enough so i can see it and feel it. Not a crazy amount just enough so i can see it moving and can feel it. I have 14000 miles on my Touareg and just had the tires balanced at the dealer hoping that would be the problem..

I have a 2006 Mazda3 with about 112K miles on it and what I have noticed recently is that the steering shakes a lot. I looked up online for a possible cause and have found that wheel balancing could be a reason. I got wheels balanced and aligned but still there is still some vibration in the steering, so what do you think could be the reason? I have got rotors machined once before, like a year ago.

I have vibration in my 2012 Golf R at highway speeds. I noticed it right when I drove it off the lot. First I thought it's because the tires had a flat spot from the car sitting a few months on the lot, but it persisted.
The steering wheel vibrates very slightly and I can see the front passenger seat vibrating as well. I know it's not normal. I checked my tire pressures and they are all at 41psi as per the door sticker.
Messed up factory rim/tire balance in the R? How about hub or driveshaft imbalance?

I started to experience steering wheel vibrating while at a stop light/sign? My IS used to be very silent and smooth when I am at stop (while in gear). But now I am noticing vibrations while I am waiting at a red light. It's not from the music because I turned off the radio to see if my music was too loud. why this could happen?

I just got the brakes done and a weird thing is happening: I upgraded with adams rotors, ebc red pads, ecs ss lines, tyrolsport bushing stifenning kit.
Whenever I try to brake from 40+mph to 0 the steering wheel vibrates a lot. What can be the cause of it?

We have the 6.8 4x4 2001. Mostly use it for towing 6K #. Bought 2 years ago. Front and rear brakes were new and all 4 rotors were machined at Ford dealership prior to purchase. Have put on 13,000 miles since then, majority towing.

I have a issue with my golf 1.9tdi when i start the engine it shakes really bad and feels very rough when sitting in the cab steering wheel vibrates really Bad and engine looks like its going to fly out of the car but when i apply throttle the vibrations go only happens when idling.
What it could be i have done a Diesel Purge, changed the fuel filter, cleaner the EGR Valve, changed the coolant temp sensor, checked the injector loom for continuity and resistance everything was fine, checked resistance on injectors readings was all the same, flywheel seems fine when running (no movement) and no change when i dip the clutch, engine mounts i changed the right hand side one all the rest are fine and not penetrated.

I just bought a 2008 Sonata GLS 2.4L, 4-cyl., automatic, 74000 miles.
I found that the steering wheel, sometimes the seat, vibrates at idle in "D" and "R". And the vibration reduces a lot in "N".
Is this common for this model? If it's not common, how to repair this problem?

My 1999 silverado growls in when it's in 4-Hi. It seems like it only happens when I accelerate. And it's only in 4WD, not 2WD. So I'm worried about the front differential, especially since I just got a bunch of seals replaced and read that problems with the front diff can make them go bad. Did the shop just ignore a likely problem? I just bought the thing last summer, so I'm not sure if the sound changed much over time. I do need front shocks, that doesn't seem related, does it?
