Celica :: 90 - Brake Lights Burn Bright When Turning On Headlights
Jan 2, 2009
I have a customer that brought this in when he was pulled over by the police. The brake lights burn bright when turning on the headlights. When I unplug the the wiring harness at the left rear the right tail lamp lights up as regular tail lights the left turns off. The voltage at harness when tail light on is 10 wher as the voltage when the brake lights are on is 8.65.

Having issues with headlights burning out in their 2010 Prius??? I had my bulbs replaced at 49,000 miles and they burned out again before 55,000 miles. They both burned out within two/three days of each other. I took it into the dealership and they weren't useful at all....

I have an 07 Camry LE and I bought a Kensun H11 HID slim ballast kit they worked great for a while but I had one go out on the passenger side, the ballast stopped working so I bought another kit and replaced both sides with brand new bulbs and ballasts so I would know they both would work as they are supposed to This worked for a while then suddenly the drivers side light is no longer as bright as the passenger side I tried replacing the bulb with a spare new one I had and still same light output I know overlap makes the passenger side look brighter but even against the wall they're different
You can see in the pics how one is a nice bright light with the cutoff and the other looks more like a reflection of the light I still have stock projectors by the way and I know I still need to do the squirrel spotters but not yet sure of best way to do it

Find that the elantra headlights aren't bright. I have a 2011 Elantra GL and find my headlights are very dim compared to other modern cars.

The stock headlights on my 02' Elantra GLS Automatic were not bright enough, I could barely see anything at night. So in December I put in Silverstar 55w bulbs. In May the passenger side bulb died. I warranty replaced the bulb. The same bulb died again last week. I replaced it again with the same bulbs. Is it possibly my car can only handle 35W bulbs, or wiring issues, or faulty fuse? Not sure whats going on.

I have a 2006 Sonata, last night I was driving and when using my high beam headlights they would stay bright and then dim then brighten up again. The battery has not been replaced since I have had this car, but I didn't know if it could be the battery, alternator or maybe the headlights? They work fine on regular beam, no dimming on this setting.

Having some trouble turning on fog lights with main head lights at the same time. Is this possible and how do I do this.

I bought an '08 Elantra in October and I notice whenever I am driving on surface streets at night people are constantly flashing their lights at me as if I have my brights on. I don't. At first I thought it might be a coincidence and maybe they were trying to warn me about cops or something, but it happens way too often. On a 10-15 minute drive I get flashed 4-6 times on average.
I've started paying more attention to my headlights since I've realize they might have an issue and at first I thought they might just be too bright, but I do notice that I can see into the back of peoples' cars much more clearly than I can when I'm in other peoples' cars.
As far as I know they're stock headlights. Were they too bright or did they just need to have their angle adjusted? How hard is it to do that and is it expensive?

Since a couple of days whenever I turn the T-reg on even in bright sunshine the lights come on (for night driving and the DRL goes off) when the light switch is in the "AUTO" position. I can turn the lights off by placing the light switch in the "OFF" position and then the DRL lights up (correctly).

Problem with my '86 Celica's charging system. Car has about 135,000 miles and original alternator and belt. It is usually driven once or twice a week, but after sitting about 10 days, the tail light, brake, and battery warning lights came on when I started it. The lights went out after a minute. This same sequence of events happened the next three times I started the car that day. The fourth time, the lights went out but came back on as I drove. I found that revving the engine to between two and three thousand RPM made the light go off, but it sometimes came back on. And the engine revving isn't a sure thing now. Hit and miss. My wife and I have been trying to diagnose the problem.
When the warning lights are on, the dash voltmeter is near the bottom of the operating range. After revving and the lights going off, the voltmeter jumps up near the top of the normal operating range indicating the battery is charging.
The belt is checkered on the inside but not frayed. It deflected about 7/16ths inch midway between two pulleys about 17" apart. The Haynes manual said 1/2 inch was maximum deflection for that span. No unusual noises from the alternator.
We ran a checklist from my Haynes manual but I think it has an error in it. Here are the two steps that don't make sense. I marked the parts that seem to contradict with asterisks.
h) Disconnect the battery cables (negative first, then positive). Inspect the battery posts and the cable clamps for corrosion. Clean them thoroughly if necessary. Reconnect the cable to the negative terminal.
i) With the key off, insert a test light between the negative battery post and the disconnected negative cable clamp.
1) If the test light does not come on, reattach the clamp and proceed to the next step.
2) If the test light comes on, there is a short in the electrical system of the vehicle. The short must be repaired before the charging system can be checked.
3) Disconnect the alternator wiring harness.
(a) If the light goes out, the alternator is bad.
(b) If the light stays on, pull each fuse until the light goes out (this will tell you which component is shorted)."
Well, we decided that the last instruction in Step h should be to reconnect the POSITIVE cable (but could be wrong). I did this and we did Step i as written. The light came ON (Step 2). Disconnect the alternator wires at two points. Light stayed ON. Pulled every fuse under the hood and on the kick panel by the clutch. Light stayed ON.
The battery is near the end of its warranty period--about two-year old DieHard. Voltage at the terminals is about 12.4V with key out, about the same with ignition on but not running, the same with engine running and the dash lights showing, and about 14.5V after I get the dash lights to go off and the battery starts charging.
So, we're at a standstill. Tests say the tension on the belt is okay. The test light testing indicates the alternator is okay and the test light stayed on as fuses were pulled. The key was out of the ignition during the testing, but there are circuits that work without the key (brakes, hazard, headlights, etc.). Is the belt maybe slipping even though it is within specs on tension? What about the contradiction in the Haynes testing?

Locked the car with remote and went shopping and to dinner(gone about 5 hours), when we came out the headlights and brake lights were on... Does the head and brake lights stay on after the security alarm system goes off?

HID's in your fog lights, any burn marks or anything of that sort. I have had HID's in my fogs for 7months or so and last week I stared noticing a burn mark on both fog lights. Now I do have film on the housing so I first thought that maybe it was the film burning up and not the fog lens. I'm asking because I can have my film replaced for free, I just have to send in some photos to prove it. But before I do that I wanted to make sure that it was the film that got burned 100% and not the fog light lens in case I needed that replaced also. I kinda don't want to take off the film just to see if its the lens or film.

MY friends's 2001 Passat has an issue. Brake lights work fine when the headlight switch is turned off. When she turns the headlight switch ON, her brake lights are stuck on. Left, right, and center. What could this be? Seems like maybe a fuse or brake light switch.

I have a 99 Passat 1.8T and the left taillight was out. It was the fuse and I replaced it, however when the headlights are on the brake lights and 3d brake light is on as well. Is it a short or something else.
