I have a 2004 Chevy Cavalier, 4 door, I had it jump started a couple of times, and it locked my stereo,/ Cd Player, I have tried everything, You are not able to do anything with it, it just says locked on it, I have tried to get any codes to come up but they don't, If I push any buttons, I also don't have the codes to it or manual to it.
View 1 RepliesWe are looking for a 2005-2006 GX 470. I like all the options that come on them but I have always felt the more you have the more you have to fix. Some of the $ spent to maintain the GX is not a problem such as mechanical items. I like the vehicle enough to be willing to deal with the air ride suspension in the future. If the navigation system goes out does it take out anything else? I do not feel a great need for the navigation and was wondering if it should be a factor in our purchase?
View 2 RepliesWe have base line 2004 Cavalier coupe that has about 130K miles on it. It is currently doing two things: When the car is idling the engine begins to overheat, and the air conditioning goes awol. As soon as forward movement begins again, the temperature goes back to acceptable levels, and the air conditioning becomes cool again. Since these problems occur simultaneously, it leads me to think they might be related.
View 2 RepliesI have a 99 Chevy Cavalier with the 2.2L OHV engine, and I've been dealing with vibration when braking, especially at highway speeds. I just had it in for service and my mechanic replaced a warped front rotor and said that was the problem. It's better now than it was, but I'm still getting some vibration.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2001 chevy cavalier, the base 2.2 model with a 5 speed manual transmission.
I can't shift into 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear. On occasion I can get into 1st but it pops out almost instantly. I have the shift boot up, it looks like the shifter won't go far enough to click into gear for the top 3 gears.
2nd and 4th don't have any issues, reverse works as well though can sometimes be more difficult than usual.
Recently the 'check engine' light went on in my 2005 Chevy Cavalier. since I couldn't afford the typical diagnosis charge, I went somewhere where they code it at no cost. They said it was the gas cap, so I went to a dealer & bought one. (They also turned the light off for me.) Problem is now the light is back on. While I was at the dealer, the mechanic said it will have to be properly checked to pass inspection; apparently it has something to do w/ emissions. Is that true?

My AC pulleys bearing froze up and broke the belt. I replaced the pulley and clutch, checked fuses and relays, all good. The clutch still wouldn't engage.I bought some AC 134A and put half a can and its still not engaging. How do I get that clutch to engage?
2002 Chevy Cavalier 2.2 Ecotec engine
I have a manual transmission, 2003 Chevy Cavalier with 197,000 miles. Car has been great up until 6 months ago. My husband is great with keeping up with oil changes/ routine car maintenance. The reason for my post is, I am having two main problems with my car
1.) Significant drops in RPMs while stopped.
2.) lurching while on the accelerator.
The significant drops in RPMs occur while at a complete stop and do not occur at every stop, it seems completely random. This first started roughly 5-6 months ago, my husband replaced the spark plugs and it was running fine until last week. Same symptoms- while at a stop it fluctuates between an idle of 1000rpms down to almost 0 (car has never died, but sounds like it comes close). The second set of symptoms have been fairly consistent the past 2-3 months. At first I thought I had some bad fuel so I applied fuel treatment- seemed to solve the problem until I filled up again. Same problem- again treated with fuel treatment, and issue resolved.
The same tank of fuel got down to 1/4 tank, and symptoms started a third time. Again- fuel treatment. The car is now down to 1/2 a tank and the lurching has started once again. There is no way I continue to get this unlucky with bad fuel. The car lurches forward more when I maintain a higher speed (50-60mph) but on occassion can occur while going much slower. It typically jerks for 5ish miles, it doesnt occur my entire drive to/from work (22miles). My check engine light is on, but has been for years. This is my daily driver, I depend on this car and am nervous if I dont find out what is wrong- ill end up stranded.
About 4 yrs ago, my Son called me and said battery was dead in 2006 Chevy Malibu. and that the weird thing was CD player was spinning with the car shut off. Jumped battery but had to take out radio fuse because when car was shut off, radio would still run! Took it to the dealer and they wanted 500.00 dollars to fix the thing!!! No way I am paying that. Long story short put fuse back in and Radio plays for 30 seconds then shows "LOCKED" Why oh why is my Malibu radio draining my battery and running when car is off? I haven't had a radio for four years because of this "electrical problem" and NO WAY can I afford 500.00! Someone also said check the Ignition Switch or it could be the RAP (Retained Accessory Power)?
Here is what I tried this morning..When trying to unlock the radio, I put the fuse back in for the Radio, turned ignition on and heard the CD player spin with nothing in it and then LOCKED came on. Tried to unlock it and nothing when pushing all buttons. Shut ignition off again, took fuse out and put in again and heard CD player spin again. My guess is Radio itself has a short or something? What to do? I don't know if it's a short, the radio itself or the Retained Accessory Power...
I am able to reproduce an error on my 2005's audio system. What "Error 4" means? I have to actually turn off the car to reset the CD player.
Here's how I reproduce it:
Background:It's a non-ML system
6-CD changer, cassette, AM/FM
I have six CD's loaded into the system
Steps:When listening to FM radio, push the CD button
Press the "Disk" up-arrow button rapidly (it is the radio station preset #4 button) to change disks. I usually cycle through five or six rapid disk changes, normally going from Disk 1 to Disk 6, in a fast manner.
Sure enough, after the fourth or fifth (maybe sixth) button press, "Error 4" flashes on the display. At this point, I can't do anything with the CD player. I can, however, switch to radio and listen as usual.
To reset the error message and to begin using the CD player again, I have to turn off the ignition. Turning off just the audio system doesn't reset the error.
It looks like this tape player on my 07 GX just sitting there and doing nothing. Need to do any modification with that, replacing / removing etc.?
View 5 RepliesMy wife went to start up her 2006 GX470 and there was no sound from the radio or CD player.
All the lights and buttons seem to be working properly but no sound at all. I suspect it may be the amplifier.
I checked the fuses under the hood and radio 1 and radio 2 seem to be okay. Is there anyway to check if the radio is and or the amplifier the issue?
My second question is it worth buying just the factory radio/amp or is it better to upgrade the radio and amplifier?
Are there plug and play wiring harnesses so I don't have to splice the wires? It is again a 2006 Gx470 with Navigation without Mark Levinson and with rear entertainment system.
My stereo say "MP3" on it's face. My manual says nothing about MP3's though. How do I play an iPod in my truck? I do not have a cassette deck either...so that method won't work. 2005 F150 ....

View 5 RepliesI have a 2008 F150 4 door 5.4 V8. It's your standard F150. Power Steering, Power Brakes, Radio/CD Player and A/C. It has just a little over 120 thousand miles on it. Until now I haven't had any problems with it. About a week ago I got in and cranked the truck and radio, clock didn't come on. I thought it was turned off so I pushed the button a couple of times with no results.
That evening I checked the fuse and the fuse wasn't blown but I checked it anyway and it was good. But I still replaced it with a new fuse that I checked to make sure it was good and the result was the same. No radio or clock. I have been told that there's another fuse behind the radio that could be blown. So here's my questions. First is there another fuse behind the radio. Second is how do you get the radio out and the third question is can you buy a refurbished one and if so where and what would the cost be. Or could it be something else.
The OEM DVD player in my '04 started having problems with occasionally displaying a disc format error across the screen. The movie usually still plays, but the lettering is stays on the screen. If you go back through the menus it will sometimes go away or you just have to eject and reload the DVD. Now it does it pretty much everytime we turn the player on.
View 8 RepliesHave an early 2004 US Phaeton with the smaller sound system. Everything works normally on the system, but when putting some commercial CD's into the player can yield some really nasty clipping (clicking on drum-beats or other high-frequency sound) on the loudest sections. The clipping only occurs on the loudest sections, irrespective of how high the volume control is, and it only occurs when listening to the CD.
This is either a defect in the digital/analog converter in my particular unit, or it's a design defect with the whole series. For techies, the highest bit (#15) in the D/A is feeding an overload signal into the analog path of both channels. This symptom also could occur on CD's you burn yourself if you tend to record your CD's really loud (right up to the limit of CD dynamic range).
