Today, I was driving my 89 Caprice, and I got the "Battery" warning light flash several times.
After, I noticed my headlamp not turning on anymore, as well as the instrument panel light. After playing around, my interior light doesn't work as well.
When I have the radio on, and I press the "headlamp" switch on the left side, the Radio goes into static. What could the issue be?
I have 89 buick Century custom cpe had it out on the highway last night and the Batt light started to flash intermittently. after a little while it calmed down. Had it out running around today and no problem. what should I check besides the battery terminals?
View 4 Replies2000 taurus se w/20K miles, transaxle warning light begins to flash while driving at highway speeds only (w/auto climate control on, I think -- at least the last 2 times it happened, shutting off AC or heater allowed me to drive on w/o the warning light coming on again).
I stop and restart the engine and the light is off. May come on again in a few miles or not for a long time. No noticeable shifting or driving/operational problems.
Does it in D1 and in D. I'll have to take it in to get checked but want to be knowledgeable in order to save a mega-buck diagnostic that fails to address/correct the problem.
I have a 2000 Dakota quad cab with a 4.7 l when I turn on either turn signal itll flash 2-3 times or sometimes not even flash at all when it does it just stops u can hear the flasher working . What to check and how to check/ replace parts I need to get it working again is there a flasher inside the steering column. or is there just a relay on the side where the fuses are ?

View 12 RepliesOn my `87 Caprice Classic 305 the brake warning light came on so I topped off the fluid but the light remains on. Brake peddle travel is good and my car has good braking. Am wondering what else triggers the warning light to illuminate.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2000 passat wagon 1.8t and recently my oil pressure light comes on after engine temp. reaches about 175degrees... but it only comes on when I am running below 1650rpm's it will come on and beep and flash a couple times then go away what could cause this... oil pump? worn camshaft?
It does leak oil from somewhere on the bottom half of the block but its a very very very small leak and its had that since i got the car about 3 years ago. The car has 193,xxx miles on it now and I've also noticed i have cracked and broken oil breather hose? ... that starts from underneath the intake manifold...
Y+This hose goes from the engine block to the back of the engine then forward to the other side of the engine to my air filter... I've removed this hose and it is infact broken and dry rotted into about 4 pieces but I don't even know what the hell it is it also looks like i'll have to remove the intake manifold to put this hose back on and on the engine block!!
So for the past week or so when I start my car the maintenance light would come on, flash a few times then go off. Now it's on constantly. What's this mean? I looked in the manual but couldn't find anything about it. I read on line it means I need an oil change. Is this correct? I'm just about to hit 47k miles. View 6 RepliesThe past few weeks the dashboard warning light for my alternator/battery will occasionally light up while driving down the road. Whenever it does, my plug in voltage meter shows a healthy 14.x reading. It usually goes out after a few seconds, but will stay lit up for as much as thirty seconds. So other than voltage being too high or too low, what else will cause the dash trouble light to illuminate?
View 14 RepliesAfter starting the car and driving for about 10-15 minutes a few days ago I came to a stop in a parking lot and the car shut off and would not re-start for about 5 minutes. The car started again so I shrugged it off and drove on. About 10 minutes down the road again the oil lamp started to flash and the STOP warning came up. I unfortunately was on a one lane construction zone so I had to limp for a minute to clear it so I could pull over. The car would switch from responding/non-responding to the gas pedal. Finally pulled it off to the side got it towed home and to the mechanic. I haven't heard any news yet but I'm trying to gather some info.
Just a few things I've read about looking into :
-ECT (Engine coolant temperature sensor) ...
-Oil pump ...
Last night transmission in my beloved '89 Caprice Wagon let go, it slips completely in all the forward gears. I was coming down a long hill using low gear for several minutes and when I put it back into OD at the bottom it seemed to skip a little but it was still making power well enough. I got off the freeway at my exit and stopped at a red light, when the light changed I was revving high but barely creeping through the intersection. I pulled over and this is what I figured out:-All the forward gears make essentially no power any more.-Reverse seems to work normally.-The fluid is at a normal level and not discolored or burnt smelling.
I don't know if this is related or just an amazing coincidence but the water pump also seems to have blown the gasket at the same time. I must have just happened within a few minutes of me pulling over because there was still a ton of coolant left and the temp was still in the normal range. I don't see how they're related but, like I said, the timing is too coincidental. Earlier this week but just a few miles ago I also topped the power steering fluid and oil.
It's a 200-R4 transmission, is it toast? Why does reverse work but all the forward gears slip completely? Is the water pump just a red herring? I did drive the rest of the way home in reverse.
This morning I got a yellow warning light flash for a few seconds and then turn solid after driving on the highway for a few minutes. It looks this: (_!_). It is located on the right of the dash display. I just changed my oil and put on winter tires myself two days ago. I hope it isn't related to my maintenance.
View 10 RepliesMy 04 GTI 1.8T got the infamous codes P0300, P0303 and P0301 yesterday morning. The check-engine light flash when I drive it. It is a little rough when the check-engine light flashes, but it is drivable and nothing major. When the car idle or when it come to a complete stop for 15 seconds or so, the check-engine light goes away and it comes back after 15 seconds or so after took off from stop.
I cleaned the MAF last night, but the check-engine light still acts the same way as yesterday on the way work this morning. The codes refer to miss-fire. This is my first VW.
Since I can easily get sparkplug from Checkers, I'll try it first. Checkers carries Autolite, ACDelco, NGK and Champions. Which brand do you prefer for VW engine? I hope that it is not the coil pack. It is expensive for $30 each at ECS Tuning.
for the last three days, I had the big red master warning light come up four times during normal braking, also "Problem" was displayed on the LCD where "Add fuel" is displayed when fuel is low. But no error code showed on the OBD reader. I searched found that it might be related to 12V battery which I replaced two years ago.
2008 with 120K miles.
Sometimes my battery light will come on. It started happening about a few weeks ago. At the time i was on the parkway so i couldn't pull over and it was flashing a few times then stopped. It started doing it more often, now it did it around town so i would slow down and i could hear the belt squealing. It just happened again and this time my car sorta lost power but only for a second. Now my question is, how would i check if its
a) alternator,
b) the belt or
c) the tensioner?
Or, I won't know til i start messing with it?
I have a 97 ford ranger V6 4.0. my 4x4 lights flash on my dash board 6 times and go out, a few minutes later it does it again. When I lock my hubs and put it in 4x4 nothing happens. What could be causing this?
View 5 RepliesI most recently drove my 2006 Prius around on Saturday Feb. 1, with no problems at all. I went out of town for a couple of days, and returned this afternoon to a car that will not start. I stepped on the brake, pushed Power, and things lit up, the "Ready" light flashed a few times but then went off. Power button light stayed orange.
Several warning lights on dash stayed on (!)/ABS/VSC/traction control, and a message came on the screen saying something about a problem with "P" parking, and that it should be parked level and the parking brake applied. It is sitting level with the parking brake applied already. Also, the door ajar warning light and beep start as soon as you open the car door to get in.
I'm thinking from what I've read that my 12v battery has died/is dying. I'm the original owner, bought car in March 2006, and it has just under 61,000 miles on it.
Okay, I just bought the truck (all stock except for straight pipe and cai). Nothing bullet proofed yet. It has 125,xxx miles on it and for the 4 months I had it I had no issue. Well now while idling or driving the glow plug light will flash on then off and stay off. I'll have no power and after a few minute it'll die on me. But start right back up. Is this a harness issue? 2006 6.0.....
View 2 RepliesOver the past few days the battery light has been flickering and at times staying on. In using the gauge cluster diagnostics, I am getting 12.4 engine off and 13.8 - 14.0 with the engine running.
Even when I'm driving with the battery warning light on I still get a consistent 13.8 - 14.0 (and I do have the headlights on, the A/C running, radio, etc).
Kind of scratching my head on this issue since it appears the alternator and battery are working correctly.
