I bought toyota navigation system part# : 86120-06450 (e7009) from ebay, which JBL amplifier will work with it (my car is non jbl) what is the part number of an amplifier work with that unit.

View 3 RepliesWe just purchased a 2015 Highlander to replace our 2005 Highlander that was totaled. We used to use a Garmin with the 2005 Highlander. When we purchased the 2005 the moon roof was an option. Now, it only comes with the XLE or above. The only features of the XLE we were interested in were the Navigation system and the moon roof. Otherwise, we would have been happy with a simple LE with no options.
This weekend we took our first road trip with the 2015. While the navigation system itself seems to be ok (it didn't send us the wrong way or anything), the design of the user interface really is horrible (at least when compared to the Garmin).
My wife was driving so I thought I would take our old Garmin and program in a few addresses into the new 2015 navigation system. I couldn't figure out how so I called up the dealership and found out that we can't do so while the vehicle is driving. In fact, I don't think you can do it while its in park either. We were told that the voice recognition system could be used to enter a destination (but not other addresses for future use).
Well, the voice recognition system was something we weren't very excited about when we first tried to use it to make calls a couple of days earlier. Nonetheless, we tried. It literally took us 30 minutes for the system to recognize the address: 1 Grand Avenue, San Luis Obispo, California.
While the instruction indicate that you should say the entire address as above, the system was unable to figure it out. (We don't have any accents and we had trained the system earlier in the week.) The system had all sorts of problems. Finally, we got the system to understand the destination by first stating the city and state, and then stating the street and street number. I don't understand why the directions would not tell you to do that to begin with. I can see that the voice recognition system is going to take a lot of getting used to.
But, my biggest complaint is that the navigation system will not allow you to enter new addresses unless the car is in accessory mode (the engine is turned off). My wife was driving and so I could have easily done so without any safety issues. In addition, when we were trying to find a restaurant at our destination, it would only list about 7 or so restaurants. It stated that additional restaurants could be seen only when the car was no longer moving. That is simply ridiculous. So, apparently, we are now required to stop the car and turn the engine off before we can determine where we want to eat at a place we may have never been to before!!!!
The problem is that there are a ton of touch-screen options that you can still do with the navigation system and Entune while the car is moving that are just as distracting or more. So, the designers have not in any way made the car safer to drive. Only more annoying. Moreover, the car already has a sensor that knows when there is a passenger. So, it should allow full access if it notices a person in the passenger seat (at a minimum).
The cost difference between the LE and XLE was $5k. There is no way I would have purchased the XLE had I know how clumsy the user interface to the navigation system is. The voice recognition system sucks and does not in anyway improve the safety of the passengers. It just increases their frustration level with the system.
My recommendation is that if the navigation system is the reason for you to consider the XLE, don't!!! Get the LE and buy a Garmin for less than $200, which is much easier to operate, has more customization options, and does not prevent you from doing things have no relationship with safety when a passenger is onboard.
Oh... also, the navigation system will only accommodate 100 addresses. In this day and age when you can get a tiny 64GB secure digital hard drive, such a limitation makes no sense. The Garmin also let me change the navigation voice to a male Australian accent that my wife (the primary driver of the car) like more. No such luck with the Toyota navigation system (at least that I could find).
There are actually a whole bunch of other little things about the navigation system and Entune that I can harp about, but those are my biggest complaints. Another one is that once I entered some addresses, I found that it would only sort by name or date. Date??? Why would I want to sort by Date? What about distance from current location??? Wouldn't that be more relevant? But that is not an option.
Otherwise, the 2015 Highlander itself is very nice.

I've changed the clock for DST, but the navigation system did not fall back an hour. A trip of any length adds an hour. i.e. 30 minutes is shown as an ETA of 90.
Can I transfer all of the stored addresses in my Garmin GPS to my Camry navigation system?
View 5 RepliesThe navigation screen on my recently went blank, while I was driving to my little brother's graduation. I can still see a faint outline of the screen, but other than that, it is hard to see. Have this problem with their navigation screen? I've tried look in the manual for a solution, but it doesn't have anything useful in it. I've googled for the solution as well, but most people said that if I were to bring it into the dealership, they would just replace my whole unit and that would cost $2000 or more, which is a no-go. I've tried to see if it was a fuse, but I got no idea what I'm looking at when I looked at the fuse box. I'm thinking it is maybe the backlight and that it maybe just died. By the way, the screen still works, I can still press on it and select my preset radio stations, but just can't see.
View 3 RepliesInserted updated nav disc as directed in nav disc slot, closed door. Now the disc is stuck in the scan-disc mode and the load/eject button doesn't work on it. Wondering if there is a way to force eject the disc or other way to unstick it. You can hear the disc 'whirring' briefly as if it is trying to eject, but is stuck. It does this over and over. That's the only sound; none of the other buttons are responsive.

Today, the sound system failed, then shortly after, the navigation system failed.
On the console, if I press any map/navigation buttons, the error message "Navigation System Unavailable" is displayed.
If I press an audio related button, the error message "DSP system is unavailable". I took it to a private vw repair shop and a vw dealer. What was causing the issue.
I am now headed to a vw dealer with certified phaeton tech. I looked towards fuse issue, but they appear to be ok..
How do you play your mp3 music? I just spoke to a Toyota rep, he was rude, he was telling me my flash drive is not compatible with toyota audio. He said I need to buy 8GB flash drive anything else will not work and I CAN'T use folders. "All this information is listed in your owner's manual" ...
I think the current audio system is a big step back, its limitation reminds me of the $9.99 mp3 players. I was always able to use a 32GB stick, put my songs in folders, or at least be able to select the songs from a playlist. And when I started my your car again, the system would still remember my playlist. I did not have to wait 5 minutes for "gathering information" every time and than spend another 5 minutes looking for the album or composer I want to listen to.
My wife has a 2010 camry le, and I am interested in possibly getting a higher end backup camera that works with a rear view mirror (the car does not have a nav screen).
I hear some of these cameras are infrared as well? It would be cool if I could use a Toyota system (OEM). A mirror like this would be perfect:

Did the cover come off my catalytic converter? (I was carrying six adults on a Mass. state park road that was as level as the Appalachian mountains with a speed bump half of which had been stolen by local bears.)
View 7 RepliesI have a 2005 Toyota Camry XLE V6 and recently I went to unlock the door with the key and the car honked once; the horn hasn't gone off since when I tried unlocking the door again. I never use the key fob to lock or unlock the door just the key. I did call the dealership and they told me it was the security system activating, which I thought was funny since it never honked for the all years I used the key to lock and unlock the car. So my question is... is the dealership right? Should the car honk when I unlock the car with the master key?
View 4 RepliesJBL entune system sound leveler does not work on the 2015's. It doesn't have a setting adjustment ,it is either on or off. It is supposed to raise & lower the volume based on vehicle speed If it does work it is imperceptible . I contacted toyota corporate & of course they told me to ask the dealer. They have not offered any software updates for this system. I'm sure that is where this issue would be addressed. The local dealer agreed with me as well. I recently rented a Chrysler 200 and that system worked very well. It's pretty sad when something on a Chrysler works better than a toyota.
View 2 RepliesI installed some 5K HID's with 35W ballasts and a relay on my 15 toyota camry SE. When I start the system, it says check charging system and once the engine starts it goes away. I initially had 50W ballasts installed but I changed it to 35W as the 50W caused the HIDs to be too bright for my taste.

My mechanic checked the code and turned up an EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM INCORRECT PURGE FLOW He said this could be any number of things,including the need for a gas cannister or some type of valve. What does this mean? How do you determine exactly what the cause of the problem is? What are the likely fixes? Will Toyota be able to better determine the cause than my personal mechanic? What are the best options?
View 5 RepliesMy 1999 Camry with 169700 miles has this 'check engine light' code: "Catalyst system efficiency below threshold". We have a mechanic we trust so we'll bring it to him this week. We spent a couple thousand fixing this car about two years ago and I'm not sure it is worth doing that again. Carmax offered us 1200 for it around this time 2012.
View 17 RepliesMy sister says that her navigation has been going out. She brought the car to the dealership and they said her entire nav system needs to be replaced. They can give her a refurbished unit for $800 + labor. The symptoms are as follows:
The screen will turn black but she can still hear the voices. The screen will come back on its own. She also gets an error message "external system not connected". She says that this could happen at any time, not just when the navigation system is being used. Also when this does happen it is as if the whole system crashes because she cannot control the AC heat and the radio goes out.
In my research i would say this was a nav ECU problem but I want to double check and so I am posting. I would like to know if the ECU from other model years can be used (assuming you carry over the same DVD version).
I have had a problematic navigation system that loses it way some times (loss of GPS signal). However it worked for sometime without problems till I dent my rear left side and had to be in the shop. I guess they disconnected the batteries and now the unit has stopped working. This is the relevant VCDS output. Most importantly I checked the adv measure feature to find the following statuses
CD ROM OK
GPS Antennae OK
Available Satellites 8
Satellites in view 0
GPS Status None
This was a clear day and so the unit is not picking up the satellites. However VCDS output shows no faults or anything.
