No matter what gear I put the car in the car does not move. I reversed the car to move it and my the gear selector was hit into drive while making a reverse movement. I then proceed to drive forward and it took a higher rpm to move the car. While the car is in the air the wheels sometimes move slightly at high Rpms.
The car threw a P0500, P0746 and P2714 code so I replaced the valve body. Still nothing.
I purchased this car used last year. It is a 2002 Camry with a 4cyl 2.4L and an automatic transmission, with 75,000 miles on it. The car was driven about 7 months and a little over 2000 mile before the problem started.
I had a P0500 code read by dealer after check engine light came on. The vehicle kind of surged and the motor rpm increased and I seem to loose power. I also told them the tach and speedometer started jumping around. This only last a minute or so and then runs normal. They tested the vehicle speed sensor and said it was working fine and reset the light. After driving it a couple hundred miles the light came on again and they did the same thing. The next time it came on they decided the signal from the sensor going through the cluster (speedometer and tach) might be where the problem lies, since the signal went through there before going to the ecm.
They could not guarantee this was the source, but it was their best diagnosis since the car would not repeat the fluctuating power problem. I went ahead and replaced the cluster and drove it about 1 month and 250 miles before the light came on again. It is the same code P0500. I forgot to mention that the 3rd time the check engine light came on they said they also pulled a P1730 code. The car runs fine after the initial check engine light comes on.
My 4.65L V8 Explorer has an issue in low gear - RPMS rev high but car doesn't shift up.. eventually "catches" with a jerk but the OD Light started flashing and the Systems Screen reads Check Transmission. Light goes out and message goes away after turning car off and restarting. Had one Tech look at it - he said second gear is toast and need full transmission rebuild. Another Ford Tech looked and could just be solenoid needing replacement and advised to have a transmission service (not a flush) done....

View 1 RepliesI have a 1997 Toyota Camry with over 200,000 miles. It is a manual: 5 speed. In the past few months it has started to idle at around 2000 RPMS, which is way too high. I took the car into a mechanic where I am currently living (Austin, TX), and they couldn't diagnose the problem, because, according to them, it didn't do it the whole time they had it. I admit, it doesn't do it all the time, but I know something is not right. It is beginning to idle high more frequently. How to diagnose this problem and to solve it!!
View 4 RepliesI have the code P0500 on my 2009 Matrix. The odometer doesn't function, all error lights are on, the power steering is not completely out but it's reduced. Also, the rear windshield wiper is constantly on. I replaced the vehicle transmission sensor today because I thought that would fix it all. It had absolutely no effect.
View 5 RepliesI have read several of the post on here about speedo's acting up, but I'm not finding anything that pertains to my specific problem. A few months ago I bought a 2000 Excursion, it currently has around 179,000 miles on it. When I got it the ABS light was on and this site is actually where I found out to replace the sensor on the rear end to fix that. My problem is that until a few weeks ago even with the ABS light on my speedo worked just fine and then it started acting up every time I hit the brake pedal and then eventually quit working all together and my cruise control light would flash as well as the OD light.
I replaced the sensor in the rear end and also found out about a recall for the cruise control and had that repaired as well. Now the ABS light is no longer on and the cruise light is not flashing, however the OD light still flashes and 95% of the time my speedo does not work at all. On Monday while heading to town it started working, hit the brakes and all was good, set the cruise control and used it all the way to town, but as soon as I hit the brakes the needle started jumping around and went back to zero and stayed there. I have ohmed the sensors and wires from sensors to harness under the hood and all seems good. The only code I can pull with my meter is P0500 which is just a generic code.
My 2005 Camry check engine light came on and cruise control started acting strange. Took it to the local parts store and it gave the P0500 code. I was going to replace the speed sensor, but found two very similar sensors in the transmission. One has a slightly longer metal post extending out of it. Both are two prong connectors.

The parts store that scanned it said code was po500. Told me it's a speed sensor but that there's 3 of them on the truck. Which sensor it is.
View 14 RepliesI recently got new Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires mounted on new OEM Toyota rims and am noticing my 2012 Avalon pulls slightly to the left. This car is the first front wheel drive car I have ever owned & am wondering if this is somewhat normal. It did not seem to do this when I had the old tires(Michelin Energy MXV4) tires with the original rims. It is not THAT bad but I DO notice it. My current mileage is 36k.
View 14 Replies109K and runs great except for when accelerating from start to any speed. The front end acts likes the front wheels are slightly out of balance. Once you stop accelerating all is fine. Tires have plenty of tread and no I haven't rotated them to the rear which I might do?

View 1 RepliesIs this normal for the Camry? When you're flooring the car besides the typical roar I hear like a small high pitch noise, it's gone once I let go of the gas. I tested it & start to hear it at about 4000RPMs I believe. Recorded it on video but you can't hear it at all on video.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2001 Toyota Camry, Manual, with about 190,000 miles on it and I am having 2 issues that may or (more likely) may not have anything to do with one another.
1) I am experiencing really high (over 3k) RPMs at the lowers speeds in each gear right after I shift, especially in 5th gear. After a few seconds, if I back my foot off the gas, the RPMs drop down to a normal level and increase at a normal speed. Several other people have posted this and supposedly this car might lock me out of overdrive if its cool, but I have a manual, could this be my problem? Also it happens at least sometimes in lower gears as well, it does seem like the car is staying in a lower gear rather than changing when I change it.

2) My car has gotten really loud, its not a weird noise, just kind of a vrooming type sound, however it is coming from the back of my car (maybe more on the right) when I turn left the sound gets louder and when I turn right the sound goes completely away.
My car is now 24/7 with this error which is Vehicle Speed Sensor malfunction an there seems to be no way of solving it, symptoms are:
*Speedometer not working, needle always in 0
*Power steering not working
*Car wont past 3rd gear
*Check engine light and power steering light on
I checked all 4 speed sensors and the wiring looks good and they look good. Also if i hit a bump, issue goes away for a couple of minutes, until i hit another, etc, so looks like a wire or short circuit, cant tell. Is there a speed sensor on the transmission as well? where is located?
I have an 08 avalon w/ 281k miles. NEED to replace the transmission speed sensor (P0500 code thrown). Where is it located on the trans and what is the part #? I'm thinking about servicing the trans while I'm there but looks like a lot of "comments" regarding this transmission and the problems with servicing it!?
View 9 Replies1998 Ranger... I started having Speedometer/odometer problems after a power surge when my alternator went out. I knew the alternator was going bad and I tried to limp home another 5 miles rather than pay a tow bill and the alternator overcharged for a few seconds before completely dying. Since that time the only problem I am left with is my Speedometer and odometer have not worked. Scan tool says p0500 and I have replaced the ABS sensor on the differential with an OEM part but still no speedo or odo. I have checked all the fuses and relays associated multiple times. I do suspect that the RABS resistor is bad but there is no ABS light and it doesn't make sense that this one resisitor is the sle key for the whole speed control circuit. It's a manual transmission and RABS only. I swapped out the Cruise Control Servo with no luck as well. I am running out of options before having to take it to a dealer because I have to pass inspection. I have also checked and there is no power coming to 679 (GY/BK) into the instrument panel. I have also checked continuity for the rear harness to the ABS sensor and it is good.

On Friday afternoon the ABS light on my dash came up, ran the codes on my SCT Livewire and came up with a "P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor A"
What should I be going after? Rear speed sensor? Front ABS sensors? Transmission speed sensor?
Speedometer is functioning 90% of the time, twice in the last 48 hours it wouldn't then shift hard and I would pull off to reset.
I have looked over the search results and wondered if there is a way to test the sensor with my multi-meter? Seems quite a bit of people had flashing over-drive light's at the same time, which I do not.
97 ranger 2.3l 5spd ... I keep getting p0500 code. the speedometer and odometer work fine. I understand they get they're reading from the OSS on the transmission. Now I also have the vss in the axle housing which I believe is what gives the ultimate speed reading to the pcm that way there is no need to ever adjust for axle ratio.
When using the torque app with my obd reader my OBD MPH guage does nothing until I get to about 55 then it bounces around randomly between 20 and 55 and once I hit 60 mph it reads correctly. I have tried 3 different vss sensors checked wire continuity from sensor to firewall examined the teeth/sprocket that gives the vss it's reading and it all checks out...
My questions are:
- What volts or ohms are supposed to come out of the plug end so I can test if the signal to the sensor is working
- Looking for wiring schematics for this sensor to pcm...my schematic only has the oss.
So I'm getting code p0500 the question I have is will the speed sensor on the tail on my transmission cause this code on my 99 f150 4x4 . the reason I ask is because this sensor has been broken off . I'm hopeful it only control's my speedometer and is not related to the code . I've tried to remove what is left however in fear if I get it loose it may fall into the transmission. I will be replacing the speed sensor on the pumpkin this weekend . but the transmission it's the upper one is broke off below the surface of the transmission this is a manual transmission....
