The temp display on the instrument cluster is showing "--" rather than the temperature. How I can go about diagnosing a fix?
I am looking for a manual but in the meantime I have yet to even find the temp sensor let alone start tracing wires back to the the display for a fault.
6th gen car, jap import so all the writing in Japanese
My '04 Passat 4Motion (station wagon) engine coolant temperature gauge, fuel gauge, and outside temperature display all stopped working in the same time. Interestingly enough, car has 32K miles and just ran out of manufacturer warranty 2 months ago.
What could be happening? Should I be checking fuse box or this may be related to some more serious failure?
what does that icon or symbol on the left side the temperature on the the multi information display? I only noticed it yesterday when the temperature was around 2'C.I'm not sure if it is a malfunction since I can not see it on the manual.
View 4 RepliesIs it normal that the temperature gauge reach half the temp scale all the time ? Even though I live in a tropical island were outside temp is mostly above the 85 mark I find it a bit weird for the temp to reach that point.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2006 Jeep Liberty 2wd (V6-3.7L) that is showing an overheat on the temperature gauge on the dashboard. I replaced the radiator (which I noticed had pin hole leaks), the water pump, thermostat, and the temperature gauge sensor. The car is no longer running through coolant, but the temperature gauge on the dash still reads an overheat. I do not have any bubbling when the engine is cool, no white smoke, the fan turns on just fine, a/c and heater work, no visible leaks, equal heat from both rubber hoses to and from the radiator and fluid seems to be passing through them.
There is also no smoke and no weird sounds from the engine. The overheat on the gauge comes after about 10 minutes of operation and happens whether I am driving on the highway or stopped at light.The only thing that causes the temperature gauge to go down to normal is turning on the heater full blast.Is this issue just a short in a wire somewhere? Should I start thinking head gasket? If yes to head gasket, should I use the "sealants" that are out on the market as a temporary fix?
It was below 0 yesterday morning and when I turned on the car the text which shows radio/clock/temp/etc did not appear. Just the blue highlight background with no text. Did not appear at all even when the car warmed up and has not appeared since. Everything works normally however (CD, Bluetooth, Radio)
Is there any option to reset the display? If not I guess I have to take it in... I have a 2011 Limited without NAV.
When starting the car... Display shows "System Check"... What does this check do?
View 3 Replies1991 Ranger STX, 4.0. Had a leak from the rubber seal on the thermostat. Changed the thermostat (stat 195) and seal. Now my temperature gauge is not showing a constant reading, goes to half way and when the thermo opens the gauge falls down to a quarter. The gauge is cycling this way every time the thermo opens.

View 15 RepliesSo yesterday my truck decided to start giving me fits right after it finally got extra cold and snowy here! I noticed early on this fall that my water pump was leaking, so I replaced it. I also found that my truck only blew hot air while in motion, and cold air while it was stopped or at idle. At this point I replaced the thermostat and housing. I originally had the stock setup with the combined thermostat and housing. The new one is and updated GM version with the separate thermostat and housing assembly. Everything seemed to be ok until yesterday morning.
This is where my problem is now. Yesterday on my way to work, the message center said my coolant was too hot. The temp gauge showed the truck at about 250 degrees. My speed was only about 45mph and it was 6 degrees outside. I ended up parking the truck and looking at it after work. I found it was still doing the exact same thing. When I investigated further, I found that the upper radiator hose was hot, while the lower one coming out of the thermostat housing was cold.
At this point I figured that I had a bad thermostat, and bought a replacement. I tested the old one on my stove top in a pan of water and found that it did actually open at about 175 degrees, so I'm not so sure it was bad now. With the new thermostat installed, the engine is no longer overheating and the temp stays around 235 while driving. However, I am back to the heater blowing cold air at idle and while stopped, and warm air while driving. In addition, the rear heater now only blows cold air, it never warms up.
'05 Ex overhead console temp is showing -40 deg... Had the board out looking for loose diodes, didn't see any. Have any of you ran into this before?
View 14 RepliesMy temp gauge (which very seldom deviated form its position) is showing above normal temps. Yeah its over 90 here but this is unusual for my car to run hotter. I put in a new thermostat about 3 years ago. I've also been adding water/anti-freeze because there was a small leak (that I finally found in the hose) that I corrected. Could it be that my mixture isn't a 50/50 mix or is it my thermostat again? They say they don't last long anymore???

It's almost distracting as texting having to stare at the display trying to read the numbers.
The drivers side set temperature display (heat/a-c) is super bright but yet the rest is very difficult to see.
I have 20/20 vision.
I tried the dash brightness adjustment (odometer reset) but that has no effect.
I just purchased a 2012 Toyota Corolla LE. The factory radio has a 'Phone' button on the right hand side of the radio. When I push the button, the display shows 'Unavailable.' What this button is for? With the Blu Logic kit, it has a separate phone button that mounts in the dash knockouts. Can the phone button on the radio be used instead?
View 2 RepliesWhile I drove to and from the dog park yesterday - a total of 25 minutes - several alarming things happened to my 2007 Jetta (2.5L, 4 Dr, single owner = me). On the way there, a yellow icon popped up on the instrument display, and since I'd never seen it before, I looked it up in the manual after we parked and went into the park. It was the power steering icon - not low fluid, but your power steering may stop working, better get it checked. (!) Yellow is the warning, and red with noises is the serious problem level. But it also said sometimes that symbol shows up and then goes away. After 90 minutes in the park, I started the car and it wasn't there. And I didn't feel any problem with the steering. Then, after 3 minutes of very low speed driving, the radio display started to flicker, and the radio popped and then shut off by itself. Then the instrument display that shows the mileage, the tank mileage, the temperature and the time in red numbers started to fade, I noticed the A/C was blowing warm air, and three more icons showed up: the power steering one, the ABS brakes, and another one I didn't recognize. I kept driving because I was in traffic, and then after about 2 - 3 minutes, the A/C got cool, the radio came back on, and the icons went away. I haven't started the car yet today, but it drove all the way home last night with no weird episodes.I was in an accident in June that required both drivers side doors to be replaced and a lot of cosmetic work on the back bumper, but no impact to the engine area or front of the car. Any thoughts on what's causing this? I have a long freeway commute and I am worried about driving with things just cutting out like that.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2012 ecoboost, recently I went to the trip gauge mode and the display screen for trip A had a yellow rectangle imposed over the time,mpg ect.and would not function correctly. When I switch to trip B info, all info operated correctly and no yellow rectangle in trip B mode. Trip A mode continues be inoperable and still has the yellow rectangle even after the engine was shut off several times during the day.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2008 F450. What may be going on with my truck. In the past the truck would blow the fuse for the door locks. Currently the display is showing wiring fault with no trailer attached, the horn is not working and the cruise control has stopped working. I've covered the basics and checked all relays and fuses and haven't found a faulty one yet. I'm thinking bad ground or possibly bad GEM module???? I've read and read topics and am more confused as to what it could be now than when I started.
View 3 RepliesVehicle: 2009 Toyota Prius Base ... Recently my car started showing the master warning light along with the temp warning light on the navigation screen. After opening the hood and inspecting, there is a coolant leaking from somewhere. Took it to the dealer and was told there is no leak but a bad/blocked coolant tank assembly. Question is, if I bought the tank myself for under $1k, could I replace it myself? What would be involved besides replacing coolant? Do I need to get the air out of the lines? Etc.
