So I own an 02 camry LE and I suffer from the infamous low exhaust piping. but today i saw a gen 5 SE with the piping hugging tight with the lower body (like it should have been)!
My question is, what are my options to go about getting my piping tucked in more? is there an oem gen 5 bolt on pipe i can get?
Can you fit a TRUE dual exhaust on a 2002 Camry?
View 2 RepliesThe temperature dropped below 35 the past few days, and now my 2.4 is making a loud exhaust noise when cold. The noise goes away after it warms up, but maybe ten minutes after the engine temp is normal. It's honestly fairly loud, like I have a broken exhaust pipe, but then it's normal after that. What's the deal?
View 2 RepliesI have a 2002 Camry V6 US model. I need to replace the Oxygen Sensor that is on the front (beginning) of the Front Exhaust Pipe Assy, just before the other sensor which is on the curved part of the front exhaust.
When looking at the DENSO website, it lists two sensors BEFORE the catalytic convertor and two AFTER it. I don't see ANY sensors after the convertor(s), nor does the Toyota Camry shop service manual show them.
Are there only two or are there more than two? Also, what is bank 1 and bank 2? I'm assuming bank 1 is the front cylinders and bank two are the rear (towards the windshield).
I have a question regarding a leak i have in the manifold of my toyota camry 2002 2.4 cylinder. the engine check light is coming up and after a check on the mechanic there is a leak in the manifold where the catalytic converter is attached. when you put your hands near the pipe, you can feel air coming out. See the image attached.

I was working with a friend for his 2002 Camry with a 3.0 and while looking at it he said the front exhaust manifold was clogged (The dealer told him) So I change it and tried starting it and it sounded like it was going to start then nothing. He had a timing belt put on a year ago by a dealer and it has been sitting since January. Mean while the Mice have been making themselves home and I am wondering if they got into the timing cover and did something to the teeth on the belt to make it back fire. I just put new spark plugs in and it still back fired.. Or is it coil packs.. You definitely see gas on the old plugs and smell it to..
View 2 RepliesI have been spending a lot of time and money on creating my dream car. I like to go fast so there for I bought a car with a turbo. The thing about turbos is that they also make bigger ones. And so I proceed in upgrading the necessary components to support such an endeavor while simultaneously catching fire to my wallet. No regrets. So far.
Turbo was installed along with the reprogrammed ecu and upgraded fuel injectors come to find out my car is running extremely rich. After trouble shooting and looking back on the parameters the ecu was set we figured out the fuel injectors we installed were too big. Fixed that checked for boost leaks. Car is running much better. Until right before I get home as I'm pulling up to my house I suddenly heard a pop and I've lost boost. Look under the hood and find the vacuum hose has bursted off the solenoid nipple going to the waste gate. Also my turbo pressure blow off valve located on the charge pipe entering the throttle body has apparently been shooting oil as it releases said pressure which has shot out between the crack of my hood onto the top of my hood and my front bumper.
I take off the charge pipes from my intercooler and find out that there is oil, more than usual collected all throughout the charge system coming from the turbo. The is also oil coming from the breather and ventilation system and the breather valve on the waste gate solenoid. Hoping it is not a oil seal leak on my new turbo I then change out my PVC valve and clean up as much oil as I can. I have just fixed the vacuum line and replace the PVC valve and started the car to find there's still oil going through the system.
Could this just between the remaining oil still trapped in the system and that I have found the source of the leak? Or could this truly be a sealant leak in the turbo charger which i'm still wavering on whether or not it is possible considering from what I understand if there was a leak in the seal it would run through oil courts at a time leaving my engine to start and then lock up. Or could there be something internally wrong with my engine such as something wrong with the camshaft? I'm pretty sure my catalytic converter is clogged because all of the carbon building up from it running so rich and probably from all the oil coming out of it possibly. I don't know how worried I really should be.
I recently put a fmic on my mk4 and a 3" dp... My question was : any kind or heat wrap on the down pipe or intercooler piping? I also didn't know if painting the ic pipes with ceramic paint would keep the temp down.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2004 Camry that I purchased used 8/2006 with 20,400 miles on it. It now has 83,000 miles on it. I’ve changed the oil and filter every 3,000 miles, and I’ve never had to add oil between changes. I’ve also replaced the antifreeze on time, using 5 yr/150,000 mile antifreeze. The only time I’ve had to add antifreeze was 4/23/13, to top off the overflow reservoir. Saturday I did my annual tune-up (plugs, air filter and fuel injector cleaner added to the gas). Plugs looked normal. Last week the car sat for several days, no issue on start-up.
Yesterday afternoon I started the car after it sat for two days. A huge amount of white smoke came out of the exhaust. It ran fine. I mentioned this to my wife, she said that about two weeks ago she saw a lot of black smoke (she thinks black) when she started the car and that it ran rough for about the first 4 miles and then started running ok. It has the 2AZFE engine, and I’ve read a TSB (TSB 1507) “It has been reported that stripped head bolt threads have been found on some of these engines during tear down. When the two rear head bolts lose their clamping ability they allow coolant to seep out at the rear of the cylinder head.” Could that be the problem?
I have a 2002 Durango, the #3 Exhaust rocker arm keeps coming off, it was took back to car lot and they installed it. It lasted a day, now the shop has replaced rocker, and lifter, changed oil to 5W-30 and tried another camshaft. It starts and runs but by the time you get a block it starts again. The old cam was worn on the same #3 cylinder but we think driving it with arm off caused the damage. The spring feels still when we try pushing it down with a prybar, can a spring be changed on the vehicle?
View 2 RepliesWe purchased a car close to a year ago that at some point had the oil overfilled. We've had the engine cleaned out by the dealership and the car runs much better now but we still see smoke when the car is turned on and occasionally when it idles for more than a few minutes. Is this something that will just be an ongoing cycle or is there something else we should be having checked?
The car is a 2002 Toyota Solara, automatic, 120k miles.
My 2002 Lexus ES300 sounds and runs fine (to me) but it won't pass inspection because of an exhaust leak. The dealer says that the leak is due to the corroded connection (flanges?) between the muffler and the pipe in back of it. They claim that the only way to fix the leak is by replacing both the muffler and the pipe, to the tune of $1000. I hate replacing parts that work just fine. Is there a way to somehow seal/fix that leak in the corroded connection, or am I stuck having to replace both the pipe and the muffler in order to pass the inspection? If it would be possible to just duct tape that, I'd do it, if you know what I mean.
View 14 RepliesI've got an '02 F150 with a 5.4L Triton. Despite being 10 yrs. old it's just passed the dealer warranty mileage about 80,000 miles. Due to a family situation it's been sitting idle for upwards of 2 or 3 weeks between startups.
When I do startup there's a puff of blue/geyish smoke, the engine idles rough for about 30 secs. and then everything smooths out and she runs normal.
I haven't noticed this issue before, I would add the temps here have been extremely cold the last few weeks. What direction do I point a mechanic in so he doesn't waste time or money on a diagnostic.
First car is an '02 echo and has some things that need to be done. Small exhaust leak, but i don't know where the leak is, how to find it, new one? Where to get replacement taillights, hole in mine.

At idle and while at a stop, the cabin receives a heavy dose of exhaust fumes (nope, not from the auto in front of me - I'm often alone at stop lights/signs)... what is the most likely culprit?
This did not seem to occur until AFTER I had the timing belt (package) replaced...coincidence
Have a 2002 Frontier supercharge nissan....in cold it is flooding out....blowing exhaust and knocking and shaking on start up. After it warms up and weather warms up during the day.....it well start up without the horrible knocking.......I am very good about oil changes and preventive maintenance. To date (in 2 months) the dealership has replaced: distributor, a distributor cap, injection throttle flush, spark plug and spark plug wires.... and it is still doing it....the cannot make it do the sound and blow smoke when they have my vehicle...... it is at shop now.....and they want more parts put in it.

View 6 RepliesI have a 2007 Camry le 4 cylinder. When under a load on the highway there is an occasional buzzing that occurs when accelerating (sounds like a piece of metal vibrating at a high pitch). It only happens under about 3000 RPMs and the noise doesn't occur any other time (idle, reving the engine while idle, slow speeds, etc.). Today I got it up on a lift and checked all of the heat shields under the hood and around the exhaust under the car. Nothing seemed loose. I had two mechanics look at it and one thinks that the exhaust flex pipe is the culprit, while the other insists that this is a known issue with the resonator (said a small piece may have broken off of a baffle inside and is vibrating). Are either of these components well known to cause this type of issue? I'd rather not replace both if one is frequently the cause.

It's my wife's car so anything is possible, I'm wondering if there is a Y near there and she bottomed out on something. I'll be putting it up on a rack soon, where to look?

Is the car is a bit loud? It almost sounds like it has a sporty exhaust on it. From what I can tell it's all OEM. Its not super loud, I have an 06 evo, thats loud lol. This just sounds like its got a gutted cat or something. Just a throaty tone from the exhaust.
I am kinda thinking maybe the flex pipe is maybe leaking a bit. Cause it seems like its coming from under the car near the flex pipe, but its cold here, so I figured I might see an exhaust leak under the car.
I just didn't know if the se were a little louder or what? Its definitely not coming from the engine bay.
