I installed a new cabin air filter and I am getting some fan vibration noise. Gets really noticeable around speed 3 or 4. What could be causing it? It is the TY brand filter.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2013 Camry XLE V6, and it now has almost 17,400 miles on it. About a month ago, I replaced the Cabin Air Filter (was definitely dirty) and the Engine Air Filter (was somewhat dirty). I made triply sure that I installed the Cabin Air Filter the correct way (the Air Filter is easier, as there is only one way to put it on).
In any event, after the car sits a while, and I start it up, whether I let air circulate from the outside or not, when I press the fan button for the A/C, initially a "musky" smell is present, but it does go away fairly quickly. (I have not tried this in "heat" (non A/C) mode yet). Why this happens? Seems somewhat strange (by the way, I used the correct STP filters that I previously purchased at AutoZone).
I got a new frame engine air filter as recommended by the book, tried to install and the cover will not close properly.

Is there any advantage in replacing the normal paper pleated filter with one that is lined with charcoal? What do you think of filter that is coated with charcoal and baking soda?

To replace the cabin air filter, there is a tray that you pull out. The tray has an arrow pointing up. I've read someone's comment on the forum that the up arrow on the filter should be oriented the same way as the up arrow on the tray. I'm wondering if the up arrow on the tray is only meant specifically for the orientation of the tray, to make sure you slide it incorrectly and not for the filter, per se.
Usually, for air filters (home, car, industrial, whatever) the arrow almost always indicates the direction of air flow. I have seen on some car air filters that the direction of the arrow just simply meant to put the filter in with the arrow pointing up, while other manufacturers mean the arrow to be pointing in the direction of air flow.
I just got this 2002 for my mom, and I'm doing the maintenance on it before I bring it to her. The very new aftermarket cabin air filter in there has the arrow pointing up, in line with the arrow on the tray. I'm much more familiar with the Gen 9 Corolla, and on that car the direction of air flow is going down. For some brands, you must put the filter with the arrow pointing down and others up, depending on what they meant (air flow direction, or orientation of filter). I assume the air flow is going down for this car. So, for this generic filter that is in there, should I switch the orientation? It doesn't have a name brand on it, but it's practically brand new, so I don't want to spend the money on a Denso or other OEM/OES filter.
I need to change the engine and cabin filter on our Camry what brand do you recommend also does it really matter if you purchase the expensive filters vs 5.00 to 10.00 ones? I ask because looks like Toyota OEM filters are normal paper filters.

After replacing the cabin air filter I heard a loud noise from the fan area in the car. I rechecked the installation which was ok. I then reached down into the fan assembly, and there was the problem, some leaves had fallen into the fan when I removed the old filter. Took out the leaves , and all is well.
I replaced the OEM filter with a Fram Fresh Breeze filter which interesting enough only had half as many folds. I figure a big company like Fram must know what they are doing?
I changed my cabin filter on my 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan and now there is a humming noise when AC or Fan is turned on. The noise increases and decreases with fan speed. I tried putting the old cabin filter back in to see if the new one was loose or defective, but the humming noise was still there. I also made sure airflow arrow was pointing downward. Could it be that a leaf or something fell off of the filter and is now in the blower. How do I check the blower?

You can only hear it when you go over 50-55+ mph and it comes from cabin air filter area.
I already changed cabin air filter, the other day I replaced filter tray as well due to broken clips. Cleaned the whole area real good and still can't get it to stop whining.
Toyota 2009 camry V6 Engine ( 55,000 Miles ) Vibration in cabin while in gear and also heat build-up on the centre console just to the rear of the gear selector and took it to the Toyota dealer 2 times and they say the vibration is normal ( looks like they don't know what is the problem or don't want to admit it ) .. and the Engine is very smooth till 2 months back and it is annoying even the Water bottles and the Cell phone vibrate when I put it in the cup holders ..
View 5 RepliesI test drove 2 2005 escape limited v6 2wd today. Both of them were pretty loud in the cabin at idle. The noise and vibration did lessen after the car started to move. Is this normal for escapes or does this indicate a problem somewhere? Like engine or transmission mounts.
View 2 RepliesSeems too coincidental to be unrelated. I installed a new K&N filter into my '04 GLX Wagon and 2 days later my MIL light came on. No blinking just always on. Is there a connection between the two? If I swap out the filters will the light go out on it's own or does it need to be reset? If it's not the filter what's the most common cause of the light coming on? Assuming is doesn't start blinking I have read it's OK to drive until fixed.

View 11 RepliesWhere exactly the cabin air filter is located and how to replace it? I bought a filter, It came with an instruction sheet that says the filter is in the passenger side foot well. I pulled off the cover under the dash and the cover on the side of the dash, no filter.
The top of the inside of the glove compartment has an allen wrench on the top of the compartment, (what is that for?) It looks like there are some phillip screws on the top inside of the glove compartment, but I thought I'd seek advice before I tore the entire car apart!
So, I just dropped a bit more money that I wanted to for an oil change at a drive-through place. The tech offered to replace my dirt cabin air filter. I figured that I could do it myself for much less (or even just tap the dirt out of my current one). How to access the filter, and how easy or difficult the process is?

In my car I open the glove box and there is another pull down compartment that holds the manual. Does this compartment need to be removed? If it does how do you do it. I dont see anything that looks like the diagram given.
View 3 RepliesSome time late last year a branch or something managed to rip my filter off my cold air intake.. the check engine light came on and I ignored it, simply thinking I had not tightened the gas cap.
So last week, I went to get my 2003 Suzuki Aerio SX, with 160K miles inspected, and they told me it was through a code that the mass air flow sensor was bad.. Later they find out my filter is just missing.. the clamp and a section of the rubber was still on the tip.. but the rest of long gone.
So I have been driving, 4 or 5K miles with no filter. I buy some mass air flow sensor cleaner, spray it and now my car idles at just under 2K RPM but slowly creeps up to around 3K RPM. It drives fine, but when I pop it out of gear or hold the clutch down. it starts to go nuts.
I put a brand new K&N filter on, I didn't add any oil to it as it didn't say it needed any and it wasn't dry, but not soaked either.
Now when I went to remove my Mass Airflow Sensor, I did remove a couple other parts first by mistake. I fiddled with the temperature sensor inside my cold air intake, but I couldn't get it out due to the rubber ring around it holding it in and sealing it. I also removed the Fuel Injection Manifold Pressure Sensor but I am pretty sure I put it back on fine. and I did remove the Throttle Position Sensor.. so maybe thats my issue?
what should I do to troubleshoot it?
I sprayed wd40 on the throttle above the engine, not sure if it was it or not but my engine was idling at a lower 1800 rmp for a while, still high but not as bad, I took it for a ride around the block and when I got back it was at 3K again, it did run at a steady 20 mph in second gear with my foot off the gass completely.
I've got a 2009 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport. I went in to a Jiffy-Lube type of place for an oil change, they showed me I had a dirty air filter and I had them change it. I went in averaging around 25 mpg (between high 24's and mid 25's), and after I left, I began averaging around 20 mpg, it currently reads 19.5. I went back to see if they had installed it incorrectly or left plastic packaging on it or something, but all seemed okay.
