Camry :: Engine Choked Down And Died On Crank

Well, I was pretty certain the throttle body was bad, since my son stepped on the gas and it would not open at all once, and then only did so in slow steps. So the "new" TB is installed.

The major problem I was having at the end has gone away (so far), in that the engine just choked down and died on crank. But it is still trying to get to idle rpm, and doing a poor job, on startup. Starts to drop low, then revs high, then low, then higher before settling in. And I still have hesitation when accelerating. So now I have to look at something else.

No codes are being thrown. Already have new plugs, as the old were horrible. I've cleaned the MAF, and the TB is "new" now (no idea if this junker one is 100% OK, but should be). No vacuum leaks I am aware of or have evidence of. Still may be a tank of shitty gas, as the worst of it came after a fill up. I did put that Heat stuff in the tank to get rid of water, if there was some, so my gas mix may be wonky.

I know I have cylinder issues, as my plugs are carboning up badly, and looking oil fouled. I burn about a quart per 1k or so, so will be trying a solvent soak soon. I suppose I will have the dealer do a diag and let me know if my timing is off or something like that. May have to check my fuel pressure, etc.

Prius (2010-12) :: Engine Choked Off - Sluggish Acceleration

Lately I have found that when I am trying to go up an incline on my road, that my car has trouble accelerating. Almost as if the engine is being choked off like it is about to stall or is out of gas. I have to press the accelerator almost to the floor to get up the incline. The suddenly it will lurch and accelerate rapidly as if I have put the car in Power Mode.

I should also add that this only happens when the engine is cold. I didn't have this problem last year at all. I usually wait a couple of minutes after the engine starts before I try to drive, but that doesn't seem to work.

Camry :: 2002 - After Leaving Home Engine Just Died After About Half Mile Of Drive

2002 Camry XLE. 134,000 miles. 1MX-FE 6cyl.

The timing belt was replaced by the Toyota Dealer in Sept 2011 at 101000 miles.

Yesterday after leaving home the engine just died about 1/2 mile from home. No warning, just died.

I tried to start it, the engine will turn over but won't start. It spins freely but doesn't sound like there is any compression.

The coolant reservoir was empty. I checked the fluids a week or so ago and it was full.

So:

1. Does this sound like a timing belt failure?

2. Is it possible that the water pump went out and trashed the timing belt?

3. Or, could the timing belt just be bad?

4. I've read that this engine is a non-inteferrence engine, is that true?

Camry :: 1997 V6 - No Power To Starter / Engine Won't Crank

1997 Toyota Camry V6. The car won't start, the engine won't crank. I've checked for 12v constant at the starter and that's good. Next I checked for a 12v trigger at the starter. That wasn't present at the starter.

I went to the starter relay. Pulled the starter relay and tested it by applying 12v across two terminals and checked for continuity across the other two. It checked fine.

So I checked for constant 12v into the starter relay, that's present. Checked for 12v trigger into starter relay, that was present also. Next I jumped 12v through starter relay terminal into the starter and the starter cranked the engine. Next I checked for ground into the starter relay, I didn't have continuity.

So I'm guessing it's either a bad ground wire coming into the fuse box or maybe even a bad fuse box? Is my thinking correct? Or is there something else that it could be? Maybe a main fuse or something, IDK, this is the first time I've encountered a problem like this.

What wire is the ground source for the starter relay? I found a wiring diagram from Chiltons (which I've attached to this post for reference) but I'm not really sure which wire is the ground for the starter relay. I don't have the car or relay in front of me to look at the terminal numbers.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: V6 Died While Driving Now Won't Even Crank

I bought this 06 GLS 3.3l v6 and owned it a week. 96k miles on it. The car started displaying "random misfire" codes two days before it died. I was on the way to drop it off to a shop to have it looked at then it shut down and would not restart. Got under the hood checked all fuses/relays and everything was fine. I tried turning over and it will not even turn over. Fuel pump does not come on. Thought maybe dead battery but I replaced that after towing it home. Tried with the same result. Removed starter and had it tested at two stores to verify from multiple sources. Starter is good. Left battery in car for two weeks with car off and battery was drained to 0 CCA and 0.9vlts left in it. I troubleshoot with a test light to see if I have something drawing on the battery more than normal. 30amp fuse labeled I/P(B+)2 was causing a draw. What circuit is this and what may be causing my dead in the water symptoms?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Died Won't Start But Crank?

Driving home on the highway today, not boosting, just regular driving. Car was acting fine, then just shut off. Tried starting, and it would crank, but not actually start.

Got it towed home. Scanned. Two codes: 01314, Engine Control Module. And again, 01314, Engine Control Module. Tried clearing codes, and it says "comm. error". Im using the VAG Check scanner from ECStuning, has always worked fine.

Thought it could be fuel pump, but the fuel pump primes when I open the door. I did notice that the throttle body refuses to align when I put the key in the second position, when it always has before. Radio works, all presets work. Unplugged the battery for a half hour, replugged, nothing. I'm leaving it unplugged overnight to see if that does anything.

Mazda - Tribute :: 2004 - Occasionally Choked Out When Trying To Start

ES V6 Auto 84,000 miles Five times since the summer of 2010 my 2004 Tribute has left me sit. In each occasion it attempted to start but choked out as though it wasn't getting gas. It will then crank and crank (new battery a year ago), but it just will not turn over. Every time but one, it fired right up on the first attempt the next day. The one time it didn't, it fired up for the tow truck driver on his first attempt after I had tried multiple times before he showed up. It runs perfectly other than this problem. It fires up strong. It runs strong. No hesitation. No misfires.

I changed the Idle Air Control Valve back in January when it died on me, but that wasn't it. Once again, I came back the next morning and it fired right up. I did notice this last time that I didn't hear the fuel pump prime when I turned the key (before turning the key to start). I'm not sure if I noticed that previously. Does this sound like a fuel pump issue given that it only occurs when I go to start it? The dealer and a local garage say the same thing... They would need to keep it until they can duplicate the problem. I don't see this as an option since the problem doesn't happen that often. I've never had it in for diagnostics but I've heard that the codes are deleted once it starts. Is this true?

Camry 2012+ :: Oil Pressure Light Turns Off Immediately After Crank The Engine

The oil light on my 2015 Camry LE turns off immediately after I crank the engine, and half a second later goes back on again for less than a second. I showed this to the dealer and they said it is normal; however none of my other cars did that. Perhaps the factory filter is bad and needs to be replaced? It does it only if the car sits for a while. If I turn the engine off for 10 minutes and turn it back on it does not do it, which tells me that perhaps anti-drain valve is bad...

Passat (B5) :: Rough Start In Chilly Mornings - Fires Up And Then Seems To Get Choked Up

I just bought a 2005 passat wagon 4motion 1.8t to haul the dogs and future kid around in. Car has extremely low miles (23k) and is pretty much in perfect condition. Love everything about it, except...

It seems to have a bit of trouble starting on chilly mornings (not cold yet, maybe 60f?). It will start, but it fires up and then seems to get choked up to the point of almost dying sometimes, runs a little rough for a minute or so with a throaty exhaust sound and then it perks up and runs fine. I've noticed it tends to be running at a slightly higher RPM when it's running poorly in those first few minutes, and then it drops to normal.

When we bought the car, I quickly realized the temp gauge wasn't working. It turned out to be the temp sensor (seems to be a common problem) and I hoped it would solve the rough start, but it did not.

What could be causing this? We're starting to approach fall/winter, and if it's doing this now I can only imagine what it's going to do in November. I'd like to get this sorted as soon as possible, even though it's not a show stopper right this minute.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Died While At Stop Light Now No Crank / Just Click

The other night I was coming home from work in my 1999.5 MKIV 2.0 Golf (Only about a 2 mile drive), once I got to a stop light my car just turned off. No loud bang, no sputter then die, just off (Like I turned the key). After trying to start the car with just a click, pushed it into a nearby parking lot with a friend steering. Once in the park lot we tried bump starting the car (it's a manual) with nothing the car sounding like it wanted to go but never did. The next night I pushed it back to my house, pulled the starter and the battery, and had both of them tested. The starter extended and spun up fine and the battery was in excellent shape.

GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Car Died On Highway - Crank But No Start Or Spark

So driving on the highway my car died. It would crank but not start. Got it towed. This is what I have done to troubleshoot.

1. Swap ECUs. The car should start for a second and shut off because the car doesnt match with the ECU. Still just crank and no start.

2. Fuel pump still primes when I open the door. I also hear a weird air leaking noise when I reconnect the battery, but I think it comes from the fuel pressure regulator (which I think is normal).

3. Checked for current at the ecu wires, wasn't sure what to look for but it was getting numbers.

4. Battery had 12.1 volts running through it (Haynes said 12.5 but is that really much of a difference?

5. Checked spark plugs for spark. Pretty sure we did it right, but there was still no spark. We tried multiple times.

6. Scan car, get code P01314 twice (ECM error).

7. Try to clear codes, says Comm error.

Why am I not getting spark? and why is the ECU error occurring, because we tested with a new ecu, and there was still no start, not even for a second like there should be.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: XLT Suddenly Died And Wouldn't Crank Over

I just got a 2004 F-150 XLT. 200k miles AT. The problem is that it won't start. The previous owner was driving it when it suddenly died and wouldn't crank over. He was told by an auto shop it neded a new engine.

I don't think it needs a new engine because it stopped while driving. I may be wrong. I put a new battery in it. When I turn the key to start it, it just makes one loud click and doesn't do anything else. The oil and coolant look fine. What may be wrong with it or how to see if the engine is bad?

Accent LC (2000-05) :: Lost Power Then Died While Driving / Now Will Crank But Not Starting

I have a 2005 hyundai accent (manual) with 140k miles on it that just broke down on me. I was driving to work and after about 10 minutes of driving I go to pull off my exit and I feel it for the first time, my rpms stay steady but the power drops for a few seconds before returning to normal. About 5 minutes later I'm putting around the parking lot and it's having trouble accelerating and reving to the point that it won't really move. I push it to a spot and let it sit for 5-10 minutes before starting it back up in an attempt to get it to a gas station to try and add fuel (quick Google search makes it sound like a fuel pump and the tank is pretty low). It accelerated in fits and makes it about two blocks feeling anemic. Oil changed about 2k miles ago (but is below the L mark on the dip stick when I just checked. I never see leaks though)

The engine ran and idled beautifully before this. No CELs.

Replaced the fuel pump. However, when I opened the port to the fuel pump assembly, there was almost no gas. So I think I might have just run out of gas and the problem was with the gauge.

Now it won't start with ~4 gallons in the tank.

I know the pump functions because I've pulled off the output tube at the pump and it'll spit out gas.

I know there's gas in the fuel rail because I pulled off the input hose.

I pulled off one spark plug to check for spark and it appeared to work.

I checked the resistance at 3/4 of the fuel injectors and they were within spec.

I've checked all the fuses.

I don't get any codes from OBD scanner I borrowed from Autozone (I've disconnected the battery a couple of times though)

I don't have a way to hook up the fuel pressure gauge I borrowed form Autozone because I don't have the adaptor.

Minus the clutch, I've done basically all maintenance myself, although certainly not a great mechanic.

Ford Escape / Hybrid :: 2001 - Died While Driving Now Crank But Will Not Turn Over

About a block and a half from the house, it died while driving. Had heard some noise coming from rear drivers side maybe 20 minutes prior, and assumed it was the fuel pump.

So, I have put a new fuel pump, filter, and relay. Will crank, but not turn over. Next step was carburetor fluid in throttle while starting, still wouldn't turn over.

Today I was driving my 04 f350 6.0 I got to a red light when it turned green I hit the accelerator and it would not go it would only go about 10 so I limped to a parking lot and it shut down, it will crank and it sometimes Will start but only rev up to a grand then put in drive and it dies I had someone run me out a new pre programmed FICM and I replaced it right there and still will crank but won't run so I had it towed to a ford dealer and dropped my key in the drop box, what it may be?

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Died Going Down Highway - Now Won't Crank And Start?

Truck died going 50 mph and would not restart. I turn the key to run and nothing. I can hear the injectors buzzing but it will not turn over or crank. I can jump from the battery and the truck will crank. However, it seems to be in limp mode. It will start off in 3rd gear and won't shift gear Tow/haul light is flashing.

The wire harness that goes down to the fan clutch is chewed up and frayed so I'm assuming that may have caused an issue. But i have unplugged the sensor to the fan clutch and it still won't start. I can hear the injectors buzzing but when I turn the key to crank it, it does nothing. Just clicks. I've cleared the codes and these keep coming back.

My wife and I went on vacation for our anniversary and the truck ran fine for a while then we went back to get ready and when we left it started up and everything seemed fine but it died about 200 yards later and is now cranking but not starting. Left my toolbox at the house (stupid!) And truck is new to me so I don't have gauge or reader. Checked the fuel filter under the hood and fuel pump is pumping. Any other tips on what to do that could be the problem without buying parts?

Toyota - Camry :: 2002 - Hard To Start / Starter Would Crank Just Fine But Engine Would Not Fire

Camry 2002 LE (4 cyl Auto), 140K mi

This morning, for the first time I can recall, the car would not start right away. Had been sitting in the garage for 2+ days. Starter would crank just fine, but engine would not fire. No lites were left on overnite. Finally (after about 6+ attempts), engine started -- runs fine now.

Took it to TOY dealer. Their diagnosis: weak battery, alternator low output.Happy, had recently (6 mos) replaced battery after 4 years of use, so got a new battery N/C.TOY ran a charging system check and it shows "Alternator Condition: OK" (midway between shitty and great I recall).

Funny, but my first thought when it would not start was the fuel system (fuel pump) or dirty ignitors. I did ask my regular mechanic for an opinion, and he thinks it might indeed be the fuel pump -- perhaps a clogged filter.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Truck Died While Driving - Crank But No Spark / No Fuel

My Truck : 1999 Ford F-150 Extended Cab 4x4 5.4L V8

So the other day I was driving the truck and it just dies on me. Tried starting but it just cranked and cranked. Got it pulled over to a parking lot and then tried to start and I got it to run again. Died a couple mins later uo the road and it will not start at all anymore. I got it towed to my driveway and I've started diagnosing some things.

I dropped the tank thinking it was a pump I replaced awhile back. The pump wasn't running but jumped to conclusions and took it back to the auto parts store. They bench tested and it works fine. I checked for voltage at the pump connector. NOTHING. So I'm not getting power to Fuel pump. Then I checked the fuse and relay for the fuel pump. Everything was okay.

I did some research and decided to check for spark. NO SPARK. Another thing I noticed the other day was that the odometer is displaying all dashes. So I'm really unsure on what to really troubleshoot. I am going back to the truck tomorrow to check a few other things. I'm not sure if the Theft light is blinking or not so I will check that tomorrow and get back to you.

What to check? Any other relays or fuses besides the fuel pump? What about any modules to check like PCM, GEM, etc. Or I've heard the crankshaft sensor could be an issue.

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2003 - Won't Start - Crank Until Battery Died?

My 2003 f-250 6.0l has not been starting. I have connected a scan tool and I am getting around 1000 psi icp. The FICM voltage is 47.5v however when I cycled the key it dropped to 43.5 then started climbing to 48, but I am not getting FICM sync. I does eventually start when I do get sync. It seems to run fine after it starts. It does not do this all of the time. But this morning It cranked until the battery died. New FICM?

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Long Crank / Idle For A Couple Minutes / Died And No Start

I need to get my oil cooler replaced but that's besides the fact. I drove it on a little trip the other night ran fine. Then went to start it after i was done with what i was doing turned it over didn't start the first time. Cycled the key and cranked it again. Started up drove it back home on the high way no spitting or sputters got off the high way it started idling like crap and shaking as i accelerated but made it home. Let it sit over night and day (was at work) got home to start it and it fired up no problem but still idled funny.

Revved it a couple times and it seemed to clear up so i took it around the block. Floored it and it ran like it was suppose to then go to the other side of the block floored it again and it had no power and sounded like it was running on 4 cylinders. Pulled it back in the driveway idled weird and cleared up again went down the street and floored it ran like a scaled ape and then just died. tried cranking it over and nothing finally got it to start after holding the ignition on ran and then died again. Got it pushed home and decided to fire again after a VERY long crank and it idled for a couple minutes very horrible and died on its own and hasn't started since.
