What this feature is called for my Camry to where the lights automatically come on in my car in the dashboard area? Sometimes the lights come on when it is light outside, so that bashes the theory posed to me that the light comes on when it is dark outside.
Are there any other auto lights that I need to know about? This is a Camry hybrid.
Auto Lights come on when it is a sunny day. Sometimes do not come on at dusk, when most other cars with auto lights have them on .
View 1 RepliesI just drove my 2 year old prius during the snowstorm for the first time. While parked, I turned the car on, headlights on, and tried to move the car. The gas engine already shut down during warm-up. Car was stuck in snow. I had to move back and forth on electrical only a few times before getting out.
Here is the question. After a second or third try in reverse, dashboard lights suddenly went totally dark, and would not turn on until headlights were off. I could not drive like that at night, so I stopped and googled it on my cell. Turns out the dimmer was all the way off.
But how???? I did not touch it. The car started just fine, everything working. Only after a few attempts to get of of the snow the dash went out? Is there something wrong with the electrical circuit? I did try to move the car very gently, without flooring the pedal.
2005 Camry SE 4cyl 5 speed stick. 126k miles bought new well maintained with a minimum of problems. In the last couple of weeks a funny type of rattle has developed in the right dash area. Sounds like a snapping noise when I go over certain types of road imperfections. Almost like a loose small light bulb socket inside hitting something. Tried it with the glove box open no change. Can't see anything wrong behind the glove box where you change the cabin filter. No recent change in any control operation or electrical issues concerning the dash area.
View 3 RepliesIt's been a while. Am loving my 08 Prius that I bought in October but now that things are warming up, I can see a problem with heat generated by the dark dash under that expanse of glass. Do the lighter color dash mats work much.

The dealership has no clue - they wanted to sell new bulbs. They are barely bright enough to drive at night, certainly not 10% dimmer from age as they described.. (plus the auto on does not work ).
On some cold winter mornings, my dashboard stays dark. Later, sometimes hours later, it lights up normally.
View 4 RepliesI have a Highlander 2013, for some reason I always use the Headlight switch on the Auto and today my lights were never turned on. I have to start using the switch to turn on the lights manually. I did not check during the day, but I also think that my daylight running lights are not working either? Does that have a fuse or something? What can I check?
View 1 RepliesI test drove a 2013 RX450h this morning and almost decided to purchase it. The one problem I experienced was a dark area, about 1/3 of the nav screen on the driver's side with my sunglasses on. Taking the glasses off eliminated the problem. I tried a different pair of sunglasses and was able to duplicate the dark area. I am assuming this problem is caused by polarized lenses. I do not have the problem with my 2010 LS nor the 2013 GS350 I also tested.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2014 IS 250 F Sport and in less than 500 miles, the car has this "LOUD" clunking/thumping noise coming from the rear when I pass a bump or uneven road. Brought it back to the dealership but the Lexus specialist/technicians said this noise is the characteristic of the vehicle which of course it cannot be a characteristic of the vehicle. This is not the 1st Lexus vehicle I own.
Also, navigation/radio shuts off while the car is in motion? Dashboard just turns dark (completely blackout) while the car is in motion??
My auto dimming mirror is leaking fluid internally and is super dark, If i remove the mirror and cut the wires, will a normal mirror mount on the auto dimming base? I always use a Broadway mirror, but the mount sucks and the mirror always tilts down..
So question is will the normal mirror fit on the auto dimming base (ball) or should i just use some electrical tape on the ball the prevent it from falling?
Kind of a strange thing happening. No prior work done on the car either. The morning was like any other morning. Car started up fine and the world was at peace. Drove to work and everything was awesome. I go to leave work after my shift and I notice that I have no shift indicator lights on the dashboard. Very odd, but I disregard it. No big deal. I also try to turn my cruise control on. The light for it turns on, but nothing happens.
Finished my shift at work. Drove home, and did some investigating. The reverse lights don't turn on as well, and the car doesn't start in neutral. I did some research on here and found that a neutral safety switch was a pretty popular part to fail to give no lights on the dash. So I worked up the courage to replace it with a BWD unit. Replacing the switch did nothing. Unplugged and replugged wires under the shifter, inspected a bit..... Nothing.
So what would be the next step? My car doesn't start in any gear besides park, Cruise control doesn't work, Reverse light doesn't work, Neutral safety switch as been replaced, And I guess that's it for the moment.
Last week, my 2002 V6 Camry decided it didn't want to start when the key was turned. That was with my wife driving. By the time I got out there, the car was running just fine. She said it didn't turn over, didn't click, nothing.
Today, it did it again, but it didn't have that magic reawakening like it had last week. I tried jumping it to see if it was the battery, but it did not change anything.
Here's what happens: Turn key to run position, and the dashboard lights up.
Turn key to start position, and there's silence. The clock on the dash turns off (as normal), but the only noise under the hood is the sound of the starter relay making a single click.
Does that mean the next place to look is the starter Solenoid? Can I jump the solenoid like on an old car to see if that starts her up?
Recently I have faced a new issue with my car. Sometimes and not always when I try to start my car, it does not. The lights on the dash board appears initially but once the car does not start they go off.
I then go and use my keys to hit the negative terminal of the battery. Once I do it for a couple of times(hit the terminal with key for about 10-15 times). All lights come up on and then I can start the car.
-- The terminal is not corroded.
-- The terminal does not look loose.
-- The battery has been checked and is GOOD
I left the house early this morning and it was real foggy and I noticed my lights were not on. Have noticed this when it was real cloudy and raining.
They are set on Auto and I set the setting to the far right + setting.
My question is this the right way to get them to come on quicker in the fog and rain?
Starting a few days ago, three lights on my dashboard display started to turn on. Sometimes they don't turn on for a few minutes after the car is running, but they do eventually turn on. The first is a red "BRAKE" light above the gas gauge. The second is a yellow/orange "ABS" light above the speedometer. And the last is a yellow/orange symbol of a car sliding, or swerving, this one besides the RPM gauge. What do they mean and why would they suddenly start turning on together?
View 2 Replies2000 Camry 4 CYL ... Very sporadically, the car won't start. The battery was replaced a year ago, so that's not the problem. The lights on the dashboard turn on, but there is no sound and the car won't turn on. After turning the key 10-12 times, the car finally starts. It happens in rain, no rain, mild or hot weather. There just does not seem to be a reason. We had the mechanic change the spark plugs, but that didn't work. He doesn't want to start replacing things willy-nilly until he can duplicate the problem in his shop. We just don't want our daughter out late at night, and have THAT be the one time the car refuses to start.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2003 Camry. Recently, the dash board signal has started to turn on i.e. Battery,abs,brake, etc. when I accelerate. Around 1000 rams the light come on,then will turn off below the 1000 rpms. Now, at 2000 rpms the heater fan will increase speed to maximum.
I had the battery tested and it checked out ok. Could this be the alternator?
I have a 2007 Toyota Camry with electrical problems that started showing up recently. One day the check battery light turned on and about 15 minutes later the AC would lose power intermittently. After parking the vehicle that day I tried to start up and only heard a rapid clicking sound. I exchanged the battery since it was still under warranty and everything seemed to work fine for one whole day. The next day the battery light turned on again, followed by the ABS warning light, and then the airbag warning light. Within about 5 minutes the dashboard back light started flickering and other warning lights started lighting up randomly. Within a minute of that the car shutoff and would not start back up again.
View 2 RepliesAny way to disable the auto-dimming of my dashboard due to lack of light? It seems like when I go into tunnels, the dashboard dims so much that all I can see are the needles.
I suppose I could also turn on the lights, but that seems like overkill.
The entire dash goes dark (all meters, gauges) somewhat randomly while driving around. The headlights and taillights all stay on when this happens.
