My "Smart Master Key (type C)" falls apart too easily. I had the smart key together with my house keys, and so far I had to put it together twice. The last time all the little keys and one of the plastic cover fell down as I pulled it the key from its place on the steering wheel.

Or is the only option to use the manual lock/unlock buttons on the armrest to lock it and then close the door?
View 14 RepliesI contacted the factory and also a couple dealers. Officially, Toyota only offers the FOB and a valet key for the 2015 Camry LE w/o Smart Key. But I want a small, relatively inexpensive, water resistant, transponder key that looks like the valet key, but also opens the glove box.
My understanding is that the 2015 Camry and the 2013-2014 Rav4 both use the new "H" transponder keys.
are all Toyota "H" key blanks (ones w/o buttons at least) interchangeable?
Specifically, would the OEM "89785-0D170" "H" transponder key which I found online for the 2014 Rav4 work for the 2015 Camry too?
I just bought a 2012 toyota camry se with smart key. The trunk button on the remote opens the trunk, but the smart key button on the trunk lid does not open the trunk. I found a brown module unplugged the the left of the seat release handles in the trunk, I checked the wiring to the switch on the trunk lid.
View 7 RepliesWe just got our 2012 Camry XLE about 1 month ago. Today, the smart key push start didn't work; the brake pedal seemed like it was seized, but the green (key) light did manage to come on, indicating it knew the key was there. When I pressed the start, all of the dash lights were flickering, but the car wouldn't start. Was towed to the dealer, who ran a diagnostic that indicated the battery had failed (the options for the diagnostic are pass, charge, and fail). They installed a new battery and it seems fine.
One of the doors wasn't completely closed overnight - would this have caused the battery to be done? I could see if it caused the battery to drain, requiring a boost / charge.
I heard a humming (motor) sound coming from my trunk area today. Car was off since previous evening. Sounded like maybe electric fuel pump? It stopped when I pressed smart key button and is not doing it now, but......
View 14 RepliesI have a 2012 Corolla CE (base model in Canada) that is completely stock. Took delivery in Dec 2011. Manual transmission. I am finding the car stalls from takeoff way too easily. Have had many manual trans cars before, and have experienced nothing like this.
Can be driving around town all day, no problem, then pulling away from a stop sign or light, and bam, I stall it. The clutch is a at a good peddle position - not too low, not too high.
Taking off on hills is a bit of a nightmare. Will stall easy there too. So I have to over-rev it to make sure I pull away from any stopped position. Passengers have noticed and said, "What are you doing! And I have to explain that if I don't over-rev from a takeoff, it may stall.
Case in point: at a car wash, aiming into the wheel slots to get into the track, at a very slow crawl in 1st and the car encountered resistance when the front tire rubbed the guide, and bam, it stalled.
After 7 months of driving this Corolla, I still can't get the hang of the clutch !! Does it sound like something is not set up correctly? What to check. Basically, it looks like I can't drive a standard.
Smart key fobs do not work in touch mode.
Replaced batteries in both fobs.
Both fobs start the car and lock,unlock and alarm sounds when buttons pushed.
BUT... touching the lock slot on the door or trying to unlock the door by touch does not work.
Today I locked my Camry by pressing the button on the outside door handle and it worked perfectly. About an hour later, I tried opening the door and it wouldn't unlock. I took my door key out of the smart key fob and unlocked the doors manually. I then tried to start the car and got the message "Key Is Not Detected". I held the smart key infront of the push button start and waited for it to beep, then started the car. The message center displayed "Key Is Not Detected" the entire time I was driving.
I figured that the battery was dead in the smart key, so I stopped by Radio Shack and bought a new battery, replaced it, and tried to use it to unlock and start the car. Same thing happened again. I drove home, once again, with the message "Key Is Not Detected" the whole way home. When I got home, I went inside and got my second smart key. I tried to use it on the car, and the exact same thing happened. I have done research, and I haven't been able to find any answers as to what could be causing this issue. I can't even lock or unlock the car by pressing the buttons on either of the smart key remotes. It's a 2007 Camry Hybrid with every option available and 114,000 miles on it.
How do I turn off the maintenance required light on my 2011 XLE with a smart key? It does not use a regular key.
View 2 RepliesI have a 1996 Toyota Camry with 200k miles on it. It has been giving me trouble starting for a while and I was advised to replace my battery during my last oil change. The problem is when I try to start it does not start for a while. It makes a noise and tiisssssss and stop. tissssss and stop. But then third or fourth try, it works. I installed a new battery and I am still having the same problem. One cold day, it never started no matter how many times I tried. My roommate who is an aerospace engineering PhD candidate came out of the apartment with a teapot full of how water and poured it onto the terminals. For record, terminals are clean. When he did that, it worked.
What is wrong with car?
The new to me 2012 dually has lost its keyless entry code card. I know on the 08-10 models you could look up behind the radio to see the code. Looking for physical location on the 6.7 family?
View 8 Replies My master key shell is broken and I am planning to get it replaced. I found that if I can just buy the key shell(from amazon or eBay - which doesn't have the chip inside) and move the internal component of the master key to the new key and get it cut by locksmith, it works. Is this true?
Also, if I, for say, buy a new key (with the chip inside it), can I program it myself? If I did the program - will it be used for the ignition too or is it just for the lock, unlock buttons to work?
I've got an o2 camry with 150K that seems to be losing brake fluid from the "right" side of the reservoir. Which brake lines are supplied by the "right" half of the master cylinder reservoir? I have read that they could be diagonally piped.
View 14 RepliesOur 2002 LE Camry master-cylinder reservoir is loose, at least with the engine not running. Is this normal? It moves about 1/4", side-to-side. With the engine running, the pedal almost goes to the floor, but I've been told that's normal. I'm not sure that it is, but my wife seems to get by with it that way. Our engine is 4cyl.
View 4 RepliesI have a 2004 Camry LE with 214,000 miles on the clock, and this car has had needed maintenance pertaining to the braking system ever since I bought it in January. Let me give you some background on past issues/maintenance before I dive into my current issue.
During the test drive, the brake pedal felt extremely soft/spongy, having to travel a lot farther than any other car I've driven (even my father's full size pickup had stronger brakes). My dad dismissed it just being the way the car was. In hindsight I would've walked away or slept on it, but let's just say I was pressured into buying the car right away.
We took it to my trusted local mechanic a few days later for an overall inspection, and he said the front brakes/rotors needed to be replaced. He said the rear brakes were thin, but could be replaced later down the line. So we replaced the front ones, expecting it to have some improvement. In reality, the brake pedal force was still the same as before.
A few months later, after hearing faint squeaking coming from the rear brakes, the brake light started to illuminate intermittently. That's when we decided to replace the rear brakes/rotors. After we replaced the rear brakes, braking motion was dramatically improved, and I did not have to push the pedal very far to achieve adequate braking power. It was great,while it lasted.
It gradually started to go back to the way it was, which is really disappointing. After growing tired of the problems, I decided to check the brake fluid level in the reservoir, and it was practically at the minimum line! Figuring it was a brake line or master cylinder leak, we took it again to my mechanic to have him inspect the braking system. Much to everyone's surprise (including my mechanic), there were no leaks to be found and he told me to come back if it gets worse or the brake light comes on. HOWEVER, when I drove it home from the mechanic, the brakes felt the way they did when he put the rear rotors on. On the service record, it said he just looked for leaks and readjusted the rear rotors. This was about a month ago, or at 209,000 miles.
However, as before, the brakes slowly started to loose their "bite" again and sure enough, the master cylinder had lost fluid; albeit not as significant as before, but enough to require topping off. In addition, whenever I'm decelerating on the freeway (from let's say, 75-60 MPH), the wheel shakes as well. This wasn't really present before.
My patience is running thin with this car; we've easily spent half the value of the car on maintenance.
There is an air leak and hissing sound at the connection of the master cylinder to the brake booster. Brake pedal travels nearly to the floorboard before engaging the brake. What is the problem and how can I fix it myself? (Special note: the brake fluid was very low and is now topped off to the maximum level . Adding the brake fluid caused very little change to the brake pedal travel.)

View 2 RepliesMy 2006 honda element was taken into a national tire and repair service that I use often . Told them to check my brakes for grinding sound. They concluded that the brakes were safe but could remove a rust or glazing for x dollars. I refused after they said again they were safe. 9 days and 400 miles later ( going to pick a cemetery plot for my dad ). I felt something funny on my front end .
(Out of nowhere ) at driving slow to make my appt . BANG, my front tire flies off across 4 lanes of traffic . Luckily I was nearly in front of a repair shop. They took it, I and told them to repair it and got a ride to my appt. The next day it was done for 400.00 .. It needed a new wheel because the holes were elongated and various parts . Upon returning to my initial repair shop to get a wheel alignment. They feel it could not be their fault when they removed my tires initially because of the 400 miles since they checked my brakes .
My dsg has been acting really weird the past week or so. I would be making a left turn with cars speeding at me then randomly in the middle of the turn it seems like the car falls into neutral or something like that lag we get sometimes when down shifting. So basically ill be stuck for a second or 2 with cars coming at me. Or even when going straight today it tossed me forward out of my seat, it felt like the car slammed on the brakes or something. I don't have warranty so dealer is out of the question.
View 23 RepliesThis is a weird problem. But now I have had the same thing happen with two different 2003 Pontiac Vibes so I am wondering what is going on! I have owned two 2003 Pontiac Vibes and both have had this same annoying experience. When it is extremely cold (this morning it is minus 8) the headlights turn on. Not the tailights, jut the headlights. Obviously this drains the battery (I have a charger on the car right now, and the headlights are still on!) Is there any way to stop this from happening, short of disconnecting the battery every night?
