On a very cold start, overnight, temps are zero or below the car starts okay but sounds rough for a few seconds and lets out a bad smell. Almost like it stumbles at first then is rough then goes normal cold running. Car is at 40k miles.

View 7 RepliesI'm having this cold start issue with my 2001 SF, but it doesn't seem to be fuel related like as the car starts fine but after about literally 1-2seconds the RPMs drop below 1k and the car will stall if I don't put my foot on the accelerator and keep it around 1000-2000 RPMs. But if I happen to make the revs go too high and let them drop again it seems like it wants to stall even easier. After about 30 seconds it smoothens out and drives almost perfectly except for a slight lack of power than normal going uphill (A.T drops to 2nd gear, sometimes 1st depending on the incline). We have had the coolant temp sensor and the fuel pressure sensor replaced. Could it be the MAF? We did clean it one time but it didn't seem to work much at all. Recently out of curiosity, I disconnected the MAF sensor and started the car it being started for a few days. No issue with idling whatsoever!.. ??

It rattled very loud for 1 or 2 seconds on a cold start the other day too. Noise appears to be coming from the engine. It does it pretty much all the time, at idling, when I accelerate it accelerates too and when I slow down it kinds of do too slowly. Need another new short block or is it something else like the timing chain or a bearing?
I have a 2003 Camry 4 cylinder. The problem we are having is the car has a slight rough idle only at cold start. After she warms up she is smooth as glass. What would cause this?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2003 Camry 4cylinder. On first start of the day the engine shakes a little untill it warms up and is driven for about 2 blocks. After that it is smooth. I cleaned what I could of the throttle body on the car, changed spark plugs and PCV. All that worked but cold start shake still there.
View 9 RepliesI have a 2012 Camry Hybrid 4 cylinder. I like the car but it has a knock on cold start. I have around 12000 mi on the car. I noticed the knock after a few months of ownership. It does not do it every time. Usually happens after sitting overnight and in colder weather. I live in Minnesota so it gets cold. The car is always garaged. It started as a knock for around 15-20 seconds. Now it seems to be more frequent and lasts for a longer duration, but it eventually smooths out and runs fine. The noise does not sound good. Sounds like there is no oil in the motor and it vibrates and shakes some until it finally smooths out. I just think this sound should not be from a Toyota, with its advanced engine design.

View 2 RepliesRecently I've been noticing a gas smell after parking my car after the drive home from work, but engine performance and mileage efficiency didn't seem affected, and I found no visible evidence of leaking on the ground (nor in the engine, but I likely don't know the right places to look).
Today, with the engine running, I looked around the engine to see if I could locate any gas leakage -- I located the fuel pressure regulator (I think; a golf-ball sized acorn on the right of the engine with a hose coming in the top and a pipe coming out the bottom and going down and to the left) and didn't see any leaking during my brief test. I'll check it again after my drive home tonight.
One new thing I did discover, though; while in park, when I slowly pressed on the accelerator, there would be a point where the engine started losing power and going into a rev/slowdown cycle: about a second or two of revving, then a half second of slowing down. This was while cold and in park; I've not experienced this in normal driving.
I have a 2004 F250 Superduty with the 2003 6.0 Powerstroke inside of it. In the morning i can go out and start the truck perfectly fine starts up and runs like a champ, it will drive to any destination perfectly fine with no issues, ALTHOUGH .... once i reach where im going if i turn the truck off it will not start correctly. it cranks over and will start but sounds as if it is hydrolocking and in a matter of seconds kills itself. once it does this i have to let the truck sit for a minimum of 4-5 hours with the hood popped to allow motor to cool... as soon as its cooled completely i can start it and once again it runs perfectly fine until i turn it off again. if i leave it running at an idle it will sit and idle all day long and i can jump in and drive it fine. It just happens when it gets turned off.

View 5 RepliesI have a 2016 XLE with the head unit that has nav but is not the premium JBL. My wife and I both use our phones in the car. We both have Samsung Galaxy S5 phones. I have the Entune app on my phone. My phone sounds great when I use the hands free talking. When my wife calls me from the car her phone sounds horrible. Two identical phones and one sounds great and the other horrible. Is there a fix for this problem?
View 9 RepliesI have a 2011 Avalon and only 7000 miles on it. For the past month or two I've been getting a weird smell from the AC. Never got that smell when I first got the car. Smelt perfectly fine like a brand new car until now. I don't know how to describe the smell, but I know it isn't the smell of a dead animal. When I first start my car after it has been sitting for awhile, lets say over night, the smell is evident for the first 10 seconds. After those ten seconds the smell goes away and I don't really smell much of it. The smell is there but you can barely smell it. However, whenever I turn the "AC" button off but leave the fan running, the smell becomes very evident and it doesn't go away.
I've tried checking the filter. The filter was perfectly fine. It was clean with a little area of black on it which i believe is normal. Also the smell that I smelt wasn't in the filter. Another question is, is the filter facing upward suppose to be collecting the pollen and junk? Or it is suppose to be collected from the bottom? I might have replaced the filter the wrong way.
I bought a new 2013 ES 300h. It only has 7K miles on it. When I first start it up for the day there is a moldy smell coming out of the vents for a few minutes. I've not taken it through any deep water.
Does it just need some new vent filters? What filters would be involved?
I have an issue with my 7.3.... the truck will not start if it sits overnight without being plugged in, even in 65 degree weather. It starts and runs with a rough idle for about 10 seconds after its been plugged in for an hour, after the rough idle is gone it runs great .. it will Stat back up as long as the truck is warm (70+).... I've replaced the batteries, glow plugs, starter (it was going bad) and fuel filter. .. also replaced the gpr today. ....
View 14 RepliesI've got a 2013 ecoboost with 31,000 mile on it. Generally it's been good but at 30,000 mile it started sounding like a diesel on cold starts. Usually after sitting overnight the first start rattles like a 6.0 liter diesel for about 3-8 seconds then it's quiet. It won't do it again all day usually. The dealer says there's no codes so everything it all good. It never did this until I hit 30,000 miles.
View 11 RepliesIt was pretty warm this afternoon, had the AC on full blast. Drove into a left turn lane and stopped for the red arrow, the engine began spurring for a couple seconds. Then it caught itself but afterward felt the whole car shake for like a minute, drove off once it was a green arrow and nothing else happened. Has any one else had this or a similar experience happened to them? My Camry just hit 30k miles, I wonder if it just had a "spaz" (or whatever you want to call it) attack.
View 4 RepliesThe last couple of times that I've started my W12 after sitting over night or longer I've noticed a misfire for 10-20 seconds and then it cleans up. Today the engine icon illuminated and after returning home I ran a VAG-COM scan which revealed these DTC's. There are 7 found faults at address 11.
My question is this- What exactly is causing this misfire issue? I'm assuming there is a faulty piece under the hood begging for attention but I don't know which item it is.
Everything else seems to be performing as it should but I see a few other faults showing up. Are any of those faults anything that needs looking into?

I have a 2014 Camry SE with about 30k miles on it. Recently, I notice 2 rattles.
1) When I turn on my car, I hear a rattle/buzz sound for about 10 seconds sounds like its coming from the dash from my passenger side, then the rattle/buzz goes away.
2) There is a constant rattling noise the is coming from my driver side dashboard. I do not hear it on smooth roads but once I go through bumps or cracks on the road the rattle is noticeable and annoying. Sounds like its from the speaker by the windshield but i really cannot tell as i am trying to focus on the road. Maybe its something loose?
