Camry 2012+ :: Loud Thud Going Over Speed Bump - Something Hitting Floor Board Of Car
Mar 30, 2014
2012 SE with 4 cylinder 35K miles. When the front wheels go over a speed bump at a couple of miles per hour I get a noise which sounds like something hitting the floor board of the car. It is a loud single thud. Much deeper and louder than a loose seat would make.

I get an audible clunk/thud noise when I go over a dip or bump in the road. The sound only comes from the passenger side front wheel and only happens once when the car is cold. It almost sounds like a strut mount or something. I've just been living with it but recently the noise has happened when the car is warmed up. The driver side front does not make this sound. It is not the ABS self check noise that some people hear.

Just experienced the teeth jarring "thud" from going over a speed bump. That was bad. I want to fix the issue right now for cheap. I plan on doing the full blown V/B mod swap out later, but don't want to buy new rubber when my current is nearly new. Dealership wanted ALOT of money for replacement leafs. This is just a temporary temporary measure to stop the slamming.
Front
Option 1: 2" Lift Shackles
Option 2: 3" Mini-Pack Leveling Kit
Rear
Option 1: OEM F-350 4" blocks
Option 2: Generic 4-5 Lift blocks
I really like the shackles for their price. Flip side though, I feel the mini-pack would firm up the ride a tad. My old F-250 rode like a truck, and the X just doesn't.
Are the factory front shocks long enough to support 2" of extension without breaking? I really didn't want to mess with the rear suspension, but she sits pretty level right now and I'm not a fan of the Bulldog look.

I have a 2014 Camry and the other day i went over a 15Mph speed bump while going a little over 20, after the front end went over the bottom of the car BANGED on the bump.. Now I don't know if it was the frame that hit or something on the bottom Like the gas tank and its stressing me out. I checked to see if there are any leaks but didn't see anything.. Is the gas tank vulnerable to things like this or is it high up and protected?

I have a 2014 Camry. I went over a speed bump at around 30 MPH, and as the front wheels went up to the top of the speed bump, I heard a definite sound of hard contact coming from below the front portion of the car, possibly near the right wheel. The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't followed by any other sound. It was just "bump."
The car seemed fine after, and I drove for another five miles or so noticing anything different. I looked under the car, and I didn't see any signs of damage. There was some water condensation dripping down, but I think that's just because I had been using the AC. Do you think I have any reason to worry? What signs should I be on the lookout for?
FYI, the speed bump was one of those wide ones with a gentle curve. It looked like a slight, gradual elevation in the road, and the paint had washed off. So I didn't see it. It wasn't a narrow speed bump that you have to slow down to 10 MPH for.

I am getting a thud sound when the rear tires run over a bump no matter big or small. I removed the tire jack and it is still there. Could the sound be coming the rear struts or maybe the sway bar bushings? It seems to have gotten worse the last several months.
2003 Camry with 110,000 miles.

My car has developed a strange squeak from the front suspension when going over large bumps or speed bumps. Most of the time it only happens when i hit a speed bump with both tires hitting at the same time. It is a slow squeak not very high pitched but shouldn't be happening on a car with stock suspension components and less than 12,000 miles.
Why my car would be doing this, under normal driving conditions i don't hear any sounds. Its just when i go over speed bumps and large bumps on the road. It is also only from the front suspension.

So I have 1976 f100. For the last few months I have been dealing with the famous death wobble of solid axle trucks. It seems to randomly appear at speeds over 45mph or after hitting a speed bump or cattle guard. I have tried several things like replace all the bushings in the front. Ive looked for any bars with play and fixed them right away. And I even replaced the ball joints thinking it would work. I actually let another mechanic to solve the problem, I was fine for about 3 days. I am running out of parts to check and its hard to drive it down the road.

My husband has water on the rear floor board on the passenger side of the car when it rains. This happens if we drive or park the car during a heavy rain.

Driving home the other day I crossed some railroad tracks. They weren't too bad, but bumpy. I wasn't going too fast over them, had slowed a bit with traffic. As I cleared the tracks and hit the gas, nothing happened. The car hadn't stalled and I didn't hear any noises, but for about a second as I pressed the gas, it didn't go in gear.
I think the engine revved, like it was in neutral. I looked down and the traction control light was blinking, but no clicking noises were heard. After a second it started acting normal again, and I have gone over those tracks again the next day to try to replicate and it didn't happen again. Is this a known issue, traction control kicks in when a bump is hit...but no clicking noise like i usually get on ice/snow? Or should I have it looked at?

I have a 2006 Pontiac Montana SN6. Last summer my brother took me to his favorite outback place in Arizona via 8 miles of dirt roads. When we were almost back to the pavement I heard a loud, low pitched, (a low "B") thumping sound. I stopped, thinking some part of the suspension was loose, but couldn't see anything. I've seen 6 mechanics since and still have the thump when we cross a bump. Yesterday a mechanic decided it was the front of the gas tank hitting the floor of the car, and he pushed the tank to show it made the low-pitched thumping sound. Now it is 10 times worse.
It happens only when the driver's side rear wheel goes over a bump. It didn't used to be every bump, just the significant ones. Now it includes less significant ones too. I took the chairs out of the back, pulled up the carpet, and laid my ear against the floor board to see if I could pin point it. It seems to be in front of the rear wheel, about even with the back of the door frame, 14 to 16 inches into the car. It does not seem to be a vibration against the floor of the vehicle, but may be something hitting the fuel tank. That is now my conclusion since I can't see anything loose, and it isn't hitting the car body. Also, the pitch of the thump would be different against the floor of the vehicle, but the tank makes a hollow low "B" when you hit it.

My 2010 Camry was great the first two winters. Now after the windshield was replaced this summer, the dash rattles against the windshield when it is below 45 degrees and hitting a bump. The same rattle is heard from one A pillar too. Is this related to the windshield replacement or the age of the Camry? It would to determine if I should get another windshield replacement or wedge foam for rattle abatement.

While driving my 2001 F350 7.3 today running errands it started to have a real concerning issue. Once I slowed down back into my neighborhood it would make a thud, then feel like someone was pushing the brakes (even when i gave it gas). Then it would thud again and drive normal. I'm worried its the transmission getting ready to go. Any input?

So I was driving home from work today and picked my daughter up from the sitters. When I got back in the car I noticed a "clunking" noise when I would hit small bumps. Trying to figure it out, I also noticed this occur when driving straight and moving the steering wheel back and forth.
The car is a 2012 SE v6 with about 26k on it.
I did install eibach springs about a month ago, but have not had any issues until now. I took both front wheels off and checked anything I would have changed when installing the slings and everything seems okay.

I put on huge mud flaps front and rear, have the platinum running boards, spray inner fenders on rear .....thought I had it covered....getting rock chip on front of rear fenders can see impact marks on hard plastic protector and upto 8 inches above it.....thought of 3m on Monday morning but is there anything else? I think the gravel is coming off front wheel hitting bottom of running board touching off road and getting me....can't think of any other way.

Returning to the VW fold. Just purchased a 03 Jetta GL (NO SUNROOF) and after the first rain, the passengers floor board is wet. I have searched the forums and have read many threads about the sunroof drain. Where else could this be coming from? I had a BMW that would do this because the vapor barrier in the door came loose. Is this the same situation? I looked at the panel at the bottom of the windshield and it looks tight against the glass and do not see anything stuck in between the panel and the glass.

I flushed my brakes this afternoon and all went well until I got in and found a red series of lights on the MFI stating "brake fluid". I touched the brakes and there aren't any. I pumped them 50 times or so and still the pedal goes all the way to the floor board. I used a machine I have used on countless other cars and have never had a problem before. I used VW brake fluid. The brake fluid container is right at the max line. The only thing that was different compared to the other cars I have done is that the Treg has two bleeders, one on the front of the caliper and one on the back. I called a VW service consultant and he told me they use the outside one to flush the brakes and so that is what I did. My only guess is there is air in the system. But, I am not sure at all how that happened.

I recently had a leveling kit installed on my 2014 f150 super crew 4wd. When I picked it up, I heard a humming in the front end that ended up being a bad iwe actuator. I took it to the ford dealer and they replaced it. No more humming, but now I have a very annoying vibration in my gas pedal that can also be felt in the floor board and gas pedal. I've had it aligned. I thought it might be my front driveshaft so I put it in neutral while driving and vibration is the same. It gets worse when I get up around 70mph. I also feel small jerks in the gas pedal at these speeds along with the vibration. It vibrates worse under heavy acceleration as well. Cause I can't wait to set my cruise every time I drive it bothers me that much. Only has 10,000 miles on it.

So my lady friend has this annoying sound coming from here front end, possible along the front axle, on her '07 Passat. Basically, when at low speeds from the passenger floor board you can feel a vibration as if something was rubbing in a rotational fashion. She had the car inspected at a dealer but they found nothing (specifically with the brakes).

We have had 6-8 inches of rain in the last month. the last several days I have notice a lot of water in the passenger side floorboard as well as behind the seat. the headliner around the sunroof is also saturated on that side of the car. After several hours investigating and reading posts on this forum it is safe to say that the drain on that side is clogged. I am a new VW owner and am ignorant as to where the drains are at??? also, how to "rod" or unclog the drain line that runs down a or c pillar?
