My 2014 Camry LE has a very faint white noise sound coming from what seems to be the dash tweeters when the key is turned to acc or on. (Car is not started and radio is off) As soon as the key is turned off, the noise goes away. It almost sounds like the noise you used to hear playing a cassette tape back in the day between songs. (But the radio is off).
View 1 Repliesupgrade the audio. I just got off a chat with a Crutchfield advisor. Apparently since the tweeters aren't made to standard size, they will require custom brackets. Crutchfield doesn't sell anything that'd fit the dash on a Camry. The closest is the Infinity, which is 0.017" too tall (that seems workable to me).

I see that people have successfully upgraded the dash. What's going on? Did everyone build their own brackets? Or can I just ignore that 0.017" difference?
I hear faint rattling from what looks like a center speaker grill on the dash (behind my sensor for DRL) when I press down on it, the noise goes away. What is the purpose of that center grill?
View 2 RepliesI've had my 2015 Camry SE for about a month now. During the second week, I was driving into work and noticed an electronic noise coming from the center of the dash. I can describe it as sounding like a CD continuously spinning. It continued after I parked and shut the ignition off. I opened the door, then got back in and turned the car on, and the sound stopped. I figured maybe it was cell phone interference.
This morning, it happened again on my way to work. Same exact scenario. The only similarity I can tell is that I had to use my heat/defrosters both mornings.
I was on my way home from work the check engine light of my 2005 Scion xA came on. I wasn't too worried because I've had a lot of problems with a faulty sensor relating to my check engine light. But yesterday, I noticed a faint crackling noise coming from the direction of the stereo/dash console.
View 8 RepliesSitting idle with the break on or in park at times you can hear a faint noise like a pebble or something rolling, or what appears to be the noise of a mouse scratching in the wall.
When applying the slightest amount of pressure on the gas pedal it may or may not do it.
It never does it while driving, only sitting still every now and then or when slightly applying pressure on the gas pedal.
I didn't notice this until the last time my wife had the oil changed. I usually do it, but she went to walmart to have it done.
It's not a knocking or anything like that. Sounds like a mouse in the wall, lol and it only last about 1-2 seconds each time.
I love the car, but had a few small gripes, including ride firmness and road noise. Well, the ride firmness has definitely calmed down a great deal over the first 3500 miles to now I find it has a perfect balance of handling vs. comfort. It's firm, but the bumps are not as jarring as those first 500 miles or so. I'm very happy with it.
The 2nd issue I hd/have, is road noise... or rather... I think... suspension noise. It's a faint droning/humming sound that I think comes mostly from the rear. You can start hearing it at 20-30mph on all but the smoothest of roads. The noise seems to be *in addition* to the very, very minimal tire noise I hear from the very nice stock Michelins. The harsher the road, the louder the noise of course.
My guess (and it's only a guess?) is that the metal bushing ('pillow ball') in the rear along with the other firmer suspension parts are the primary cause of this noise.
So I have tried a couple of things to try and counteract this noise:
1) Put D'amplifier Pro in the trunk - Got down the bare metal and put the stuff all of the place back there... Above the wheel wells also.
This did not stop the noise I hear.
2) I then put some sound deadening foam mats above both rear wheel wells.
This did not work.
The strange thing is that this noise is pretty faint, but unmistakable... however if I move my head forward (say, right in line with the steering wheel) 2 feet.... I barely hear it. But when I move back to the normal driving position, there it is.
I am experiencing a buzzing rattle coming from the left corner of the dashboard in the area near the horizontal speaker. It's not loud but it's annoying. It only happens when the car is moving. It doesnt seem to be affected by the audio system being powered on or off. The best thing I can think of to describe it the sound a Geiger counter makes, but not as loud.
View 17 RepliesI just got home from a 650 mile trip and I have pinpointed something I have been hearing for a while but couldn't figure it out. It's a very very faint rattle (something like the sound a hard drive makes) and it seemed to be coming from behind the dash. I experimented a little today and this is what I noticed.
It is actually coming from somewhere around the gas pedal and it only does it when you are neither accelerating or decelerating. In other words, when the engine is at equilibrium if that makes any sense. It's a tiny sound and I should just turn the radio on and forget it, but it's just one of those little things that bugs ya.
So I have finally solved the rattle that has been seemingly coming from my driver side dash speaker. I'm not exactly sure which of the 3 things I did fixed it, but it's fixed.
First, I removed the 2 10mm bolts securing the speaker and removed the wiring harness. I noticed that there are 2 metal clips that those bolts screw into and they are loose, so I took some electrical tape and just taped over them to keep them from rattling.
Next, I found the wire for the speaker has a plastic shroud around it that is very stiff and could make noise, so I wrapped that with electrical tape as well.
Finally, the thing that was most likely the cause of the rattle was a loose wiring harness attached to the firewall. If you reach into the speaker hole you will feel the harness just under the hole. Where the harness is attached to the firewall it was extremely loose. I simply took a paper towel and was able to wedge it behind the harness and the firewall which kept it from moving.
Now the driver side rattle is gone, but I've noticed another rattle somewhere else near the center/passenger side of the dash. Every time I fix one rattle I seem to find another. Maybe I'm being a little OCD about it.
My dad just got a 2012 Camry LE, with the 4 cylinder engine. The heater seems to be working fine except for the floor vents. When I select that option on the HVAC control, I can hear the fan working but there's absolutely no airflow coming out from under the dash.
View 14 RepliesI had my Prius for almost 4 years and I'm used to all the hybrid noises: brake pump after opening the door, emission control pump hours after driving, high pitched inverter noise in EV, etc. This is different. Very faint and I only noticed it because I opened the hood right after driving. The car was completely off, but there was some small electric motor activated somewhere inside the engine. Is this electric coolant pump?
View 4 RepliesHas rattle that sounds like it is coming from the centre of the dash? It sounds like a piece of tin sheet metal is rattling faintly. I wouldn't think a fuel line rattle would sounds like that, but maybe I am incorrect? Putting pressure on the dash with your hand doesn't seem to make it stop.
We also get the creek in the l/h side that I had assumed prior that it was from the door seal when the body flexes.
After I hit about 1k miles on my XLE I developed a creaking noise on the right side of the dash. It can be heard on all but the smoothest roads at any speed over 20-25 MPH. The rougher the road the worse it gets. At first I thought it was something in the glove box because after repositioning stuff the noise went away temporarily. When it came back I removed everything from the glove box. Having the box door open has no affect and the creaking is still present. I would describe the noise as if two pieces of plastic were rubbing on each other. I have tried applying pressure in all directions to all visible surfaces. It seems I can change the noise or temporarily stop it my pushing on the dash about one inch to the right of the NAV system one inch above the wood trim panel. This usually changes or stops the noise but not always.
Now I have been an auto tech for 30+ years and know finding and fixing rattles, wind noise etc. I figure I will attempt to fix it my self. My first thought was to remove the glove box and take a look around. Do to the 10 million air bags this does not look like an easy task. I have Michell 1 at work so I took a look at the procedure to remove the passenger side dash airbags as I could find nothing about removing the glove box. I only spent about 30 minutes today looking in Michell and partially removing some of what looks to be stopping me.
I was hoping it would be easy. If I have to pull too many pieces off I may loose the ability to find the creak. If I need to remove the air bags I will need to disable the system and drive without the system to find the noise. I suppose I could take in to the dealer to have them not fix it and f up who knows what in the process.
I drive a used 2012 Nissan Sentra that I purchased six months ago. Today is the first time I've ever had problems with it. I was driving down the road this afternoon and it started making a noise that's very hard to describe. It sounds like it's coming from the dash and is comparable to birds chirping or a computer-like/electronic noise. It kind of sounds like R2D2 hijacked my car! It also started making a scraping like sound from the back wheel. I thought I was dragging something under my car, but there was nothing there when I checked. When I started it again later, there was a squeak when I backed up that was either underneath or the rear right wheel side. The sounds only occur when the car is moving.
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to route the power cord for my radar detector and my garmin down through one of the stock tweeter placements. And I have a question as to whether the little grills are glued in or just there with a bracket.
In my 2005 camry, the grills over the tweeters were easily popped out because they had little clips and just clipped in. So i popped the grill up, found a suitable hole and dropped the power cables down and then placed the grill back on.
In my v6 2010 SE Camry, I started to pry a little on that same grill, and got the impression that they are actually glued in. I don't really wanna pop the seal on the glue all the way around just to get my cables down there.
I can't find any place to run my cables behind the dashboard. Pulling up the main center area that house's the clock in the '10? I could drop the power cables through there but I couldn't find any way to pop it or any instructions.
Tonight I went out to get something out of my car, I had not driven the car in about 5 hrs. As I opened the back driver side door, I noticed a noise coming from the wheel well area. It was a quiet noise almost like a very quiet motor running, but it was very prevalent. I went to the passenger side back wheel and could hear it there also. I've never heard anything like this. Opened the trunk and listened for the noise but could not hear it there. After a few mins, I started the car and let it run, then shut it off and the noise disappeared. Only thing I could think of was a fuel pump malfunction?? I honestly don't know.

When I turn the key on it stops I made a video but you cant hear it to good I will post video later. What that can be ????
View 9 RepliesI've taken my Camry in several times (service and warranty issues). One of the issues was a squeaking noise coming from the sunroof area. It was driving me crazy especially with the weather changing it was a lot more noticeable. I took it in and they said they fixed the problem by adding insulation to the roof. Well, the noise was still there. I took it again today and the Master Technician came out and wanted me to show him what I was talking about.
We went for a short ride around the dealer parking lot. He heard the noise and told me to drive to the detailing area. He then proceeded to get a paper towel with some cleaner and wiped the metal opening around the sunroof area and the black seal on the sunroof. He then got another paper towel and put some sort of lubricant and voila the squeaking noise is gone! I keep my car very clean and wipe down the sunroof area every time I wash my car. He said to go ahead and put some type of protectant (Meguiars) so it keeps the rubber moist.
I thought it was something serious with my sunroof turned out to be a very simple applying of protectant to a piece of rubber.
Basically, my JBL will intermittently only play sound from the tweeters. Sometimes it does this, sometimes it plays like normal (i.e. from all the speakers; therefore, I don't think the other speakers are blown). It's only happened to me twice, so I have yet to notice a pattern, but I suspect it may have something to do with the Bluetooth capability. It's just a guess, and I'm sure an unlikely one, but that's about it. I figure it could also be wiring, which I will find out when I take the area apart to get a closer look. But since it's playing from the tweeters that makes wiring or connection an unlikely culprit, right? It's not a major problem, just annoying, that's all.
View 4 RepliesI've noticed a noise coming from the engine which sounds to me like the timing chain. Seems like the tensioner is keeping the chain a little loose while the RPM's are low. The rattle doesn't happen all the time; only when I let off the throttle or accelerate keeping the RPM's low.
This is just my guess that it's the timing chain. I had heard a similar rattle in my old I35 and I had to change the timing chain tensioner.
I'm going to check the engine oil level tomorrow morning. This 10,000 mile oil change is really starting to seem like a not so good idea! Right now I'm at 9950..
