So mad today. Check engine light came on, plugged in my scanner, got P0441 EVAP Emission Control system Purge Flow Fault and P0455 EVAP Emission Control System Leak (Large).
8-month old '13 TCH XLE is getting a check engine light already.
I have a 130K+ 2002 SC430 in which I recently started to smell gas in the cabin when air vents were set to pull air from outside. Within two weeks, I got the check engine light with two codes, P0440 and P0446, which mean "Evap Emission Control System Malfunction".
In doing some research the check light light could be everything from a gas cap which is not tighened properly, to a bad "charcoal canister " (whatever exactly that is), to a cracked or disconnected "Evap Hose". The only other SC430 related thread I could find on this topic is [URL] ....
If it factors in, I only use 93 octane gas. Interestingly enough, the check engine light came on within 30 seconds of me using the window washer to clean the windshield (at highway speeds), likely a coincidence.
Engine runs perfectly but "check engine" light" stays on due to faulty Emission Evap control pressure sensor (P/N; 89460-0w020). Problem is Toyota no longer makes this part and there is no after market for it. It appears I may have to "junk" a perfectly good truck.
View 9 RepliesMy check engine light came on the other day, with no symptoms or problems. Today I stopped at the Auto Parts store and had the codes read. They were P0440, P0441, P0446, and P0301. They are for the EVAP system and misfire.
I had read here that one of the codes could be for the gas cap so I tightened it and then, also as read on here, disconnected the negative 12 V battery cable to perhaps clear the check engine light. I was curious.
When I started the car again, I now have not only the check engine light, but the red triangle exclamation point. How would you proceed? The 12 volt battery is around 5 years old. The entire exhaust system was replaced last year.(not O2 sensors though)
The hybrid battery was replaced at 70,000 miles and I now have 110,000 miles on it. I really wonder why disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it caused more error lights to appear? Also, the Auto parts guy said his code reader was fine for my car but I seem to remember here that there may be a special Prius one.
New owner of a 2003 1.8TPassat (29,000mi) as of the last 2 weeks and have just had my MIL come on. Scanned it at home with my Actron CP9125 scanner and got this code (P0455) which reads in the scanners manual as "EVAP Emission Control System Leak (Large)". Didn't know if this was a generic description of the code or VW has a more specific definition. What precisely this is in reference to, gas cap, vacuum hose????? Or what VW's actual description of this code is?

View 13 RepliesWe are selling the girlfriends 01 Passat. I pulled the codes tonight for a long standing check engine light knowing it had one of the 02 sensors bad. Here are the three codes I received from the scanner:
P0130 - 02 Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank I Sensor 1)
P0455 - Evaporative emission control leak detected (large)
P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow
So is it one thing causing all three or are there common things to look at. We can't really afford to go replacing all the emission system sensors and hoses etc. in hopes of finding the right piece. Gas cap is screwed on tight and codes were cleared a couple times to make sure.
I have an 07 Impala. Just recently, the engine light came on. I contacted OnStar who did a vehicle diagnostic and told me the problem was the emission control and further told me I should tighten my gas cap which might take care of the problem. It didn't. How important is it to take care of this?
View 3 RepliesSo, I have a 2009 IV, and it has about 60,000 miles on it. It's still has it's Toyota Certified warranty.
The check engine light has been going on and off for about 3 months. I hooked up my scan tool, and it says there were a bunch of codes popping up for the evap system. I did the obvious repair and replaced the gas cap (with a Toyota cap), and that worked for a few weeks, but the light came on again.
Since it's under warranty, I took it to the dealer and it turns out the vaccum switch (or maybe pump) for the charcoal canister was bad.
Struck me as a rather strange thing to go bad on a relatively newer Prius.
Anyway, had the water pump recall done while it was there, and hopefully all is good now.
I have a 2008 Chevy Equinox, and recently I noticed a gas smell...I saw Chevy had a special policy to replace the fuel pump module, so I took it to the dealership hoping that would be the problem. Fortunately it was, and they replaced it for free. I got my car back Thursday afternoon, drove it Friday, and it sat yesterday without being driven. This morning I drove to the grocery store, and on the way home my check engine light came on. I have an ODBII scanner, so I plugged it in and got this code:
P0455: Evaporative Emission System Leak Detected (gross leak/no flow)
So I was wondering: (1) what is the cause and/or solution to this problem, and (2) is it possible the dealership caused this problem when they replaced my fuel pump module?
It seems awfully coincidental not to be related to the repair, since it is a fuel system problem, but I don't know enough about cars to be sure...
I have a 2010 camry and I am coming up on 15000 miles so i know im going to be due for another maintenance. accordingly, the "maintenance required" flasher started going off, so i thought it was all good and i should just take it to the dealership soon. well this morning when i started it up, it started flashing the "maintenance req" but once i backed out and put it in drive, the check engine light popped up as well as the traction control light (car with squiggly tire marks behind it).
View 4 RepliesI have a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora with 103,000 miles. I'm receiving the codes P0300B Misfire and P0440B Evap Emission.
I use Premium Unleaded gas (not at a cheap station) so I don't think it's the gas causing the misfire code P0300B. Also I've put on a new gas cap but I still get the Evap Emission code P0440B.
Working on a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora with these 2 codes?
Got an engine light on today and had it checked at Advance Auto. It is P0442, "small leak in Evaporative emission control system". One article I read said to remove and retighten the gas cap, clear the code then see if it occurs again. If it does then replace the gas cap with a new OEM cap, and try clearing the code again to see what happens, as a first step in the troubleshooting process. I retightened the gas cap, but don't know how to clear the code and turn off the engine light.

My mechanic checked the code and turned up an EVAPORATIVE EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM INCORRECT PURGE FLOW He said this could be any number of things,including the need for a gas cannister or some type of valve. What does this mean? How do you determine exactly what the cause of the problem is? What are the likely fixes? Will Toyota be able to better determine the cause than my personal mechanic? What are the best options?

View 14 RepliesJust received a P0441 CEL (Evap Emission System Incorrect Purge Flow). I have a 2.7l engine, 2WD. I've read other forums and it seems it's most likely the purge valve or charcoal canister.
View 7 RepliesI've had the check engine light come on and was told it was probably from topping up too much and that it would go off on it's own... I should say I have no issues with idle or rough starts.
I had it scanned at Auto Zone. The print out shows: "EVAP emission system incorrect purge flow probable cause
1) Faulty purge control solenoid
2) Faulty vent solenoid
3) Blocked vapor canister
Previous posts suggest if it were a blocked vapor canister I'd have trouble completely filling the tank so I am hoping it's one of the others. Almost everything I see suggests the purge control and that looks like an easy fix. My concerns are a) if it is the vent solenoid - how hard is that to get at and b) what is the part number as I can't find it listed anywhere? I want to have both on hand before I start trying to fix this. Lastly if it is the vent solenoid should I just give up and see a dealer??
My check engine light has came on and I received these error codes
PO441 : Evaporative emissions control system incorrect purge flow.
PO 455 : Evaporative emissions control system pressure leak-large leak.
PO 446 : Evaporative emissions control system vent control circuit fault.
Also only my driver side fan is working, may be separate issue?
i have a b.5.5 V6 4motion and My check engine stays on the majority of the time. I've had a tech check the code and he tells me its my Evap system. The same tech told me that it was actually pretty useless to repair the problem unless the check engine light bothers me..

View 2 RepliesMy wifes 2007 Santa Fe Limited 3.3 has had a check engine light going on a year now. Car has about 122k on it now. Scanned codes about 6 months ago and had a fuel system lean code. Did some reading and ended up replacing the purge valve. The CEL stayed off til the end of the drive cycle and came right back. I have noticed when you fill the car up there is a real strong smell of gas but the car always starts right up. It now has a P0171 Fuel system too lean (b1) and P2187 Fuel system too lean at idle. Where to start. Don't have much background with hyundai. Also the ESC off light comes on randomly and goes off. Doesn't happen real frequently though.
