Camry 2012+ :: Black Box Behind The Rear View Mirror

Found little black box behind the rear view mirror. First I thought it's rain sensor for wiper, but my car doesn't equipped with rain sensing wiper, so what it is?

View 14 RepliesOK this is not your ordinary fingerprint. My new Camry has a glue fingerprint on the edge or the rear view mirror. I am assuming the person that installed the mirror accidentally touched it leaving a perfect glue fingerprint. I really do not want to go back to the dealer just for this. How to remove the print?
View 5 RepliesI bought a new dash cam for the 2012 TCH. I've placed it in front of the rear view mirror and want to run the power cable to the fuse box. I don't want to wire it in to the light or homelink since those are "hot" all the time, and I want my dashcam powered completely off when the car is stopped (I have a device I can wire in that enables it to stay on, but that device is way too big to fit in the car ceiling anyway).
Is it possible to run a wire up from the rearview mirror area, through the car ceiling, and down the windshield/front door post (where the curtain airbag is)? Obviously, I don't want to mess up the curtain airbag.
How do I set the auto dim to "off" by default? It's on by default and I don't like it b/c I can't get use to it.
View 8 RepliesThe rear view mirror (inside) has black skid marks, lines, and dots and other crap under the mirror surface. It doesn't hinder visibility yet, but I wonder if there will be a recall in the future. Mirrors should have crystal clear visibility.
View 14 RepliesI just bought a used Japanese made Gen 5 Camry. The passenger rear view mirror does not move correctly. it will go left/right and sometimes down, and the movement does not match the buttons pressed. I've bought 2 replacement mirrors on Amazon and both do the same thing. I tried to swap l/r mirrors for testing. The driver side mirror works fine when plugged into passenger side, but all three passenger side mirrors do not work correctly when plugged into drivers side.
Should I try buying a mirror for a American made Camry? What is the difference?
I am looking to black out my front and rear Toyota emblem/badges. I would like to get matte black. I've seen a few 2012 Camry's with it, but am not having any luck finding them online.
View 14 RepliesI'm not sure if this is a problem others have experienced here but for the last few months my rear view mirror angle would drop down and every morning when i got in the car i would need to readjust. I then thought that like every other moving part of the P that needs adapting that maybe the same applies to the mirror so i moved it to it's highest then lowest points, moved the seat all the way back, got out, locked the car, unlocked it, the seat and mirror had returned to the position stored in the memory and for the last month the mirror has not moved so I'm thinking that this has solved the problem.
View 1 RepliesMy rear view mirror looks to be dying. Yesterday morning it started with what looked like a hairline crack through the middle of the glass. Several hours later it appeared to be de-laminating itself. It looks like water is stuck between 2 layers of glass. Obviously not happy with this as TOD is just around the corner and don't want to be traveling over 1200 miles with limited rear view visibility. [URL]..........
View 7 RepliesI constantly need to adjust my rearview miror every 1 1/2 to 2 weeks. It seems to droop down a little bit at a time during that time period. I ran a forum search on this topic but no matches found.
View 7 RepliesA week or so ago there was a topic about the rear view mirror dimming. I replied that mine worked on the inside but not the outside mirrors. I just re-read two or three different brochures and found that the outside mirrors do just about everything except dim! Go figure.
View 1 RepliesI bought a used 2010 model and here's a pic of my rearview mirror. Please note the base of the mirror assembly and the location where it's attached to the windshield. Seems kinda low to me. Can other 2010 owners chime in if your mirror is attached at the same spot (or not)?
View 5 RepliesI need to remove the passenger side rear view mirror. To do so, according to the workshop manual, I will have to remove the interior door panel first. Is that right or are there any shortcuts?
View 2 RepliesGetting the metal mirror base off the rest of the assembly? My mirror fell off the windshield, probably due to a poor glue job a few years ago when the windsheild was replaced. Now for the life of me, I can't get the black metal base off the rest of the mirror to glue it back on. It looks like there are a couple of small holes for a pin spanner, but I've tried that and nothing budges.
View 6 RepliesThere is a small crescent shape of clear mirror on the top middle of my mirror. I think the dimming "juice" has been compromised. Am I SOL or is there a way to fix it? What vehicles are interchangeable and is there a mirror that's better that I could swap in?
View 10 RepliesMy inside rear view mirror refracts the light from behind in a vertical rainbow line.
At night when someone is driving behind me, the headlights from the car behind are seen on the inside rear view mirror with two vertical lines that start at the headlight and go one above and one below the headlight.
As the title indicates, the rearview mirror (that mounts on the windshield) on my MKIV Jetta won't stay on. When it falls off, the spring clip remains attached to the mounting base on the windshield. I have tried bending the spring clip outward (works until I hit a bump) and epoxying the spring clip when installing back in the mirror base (worked for a month or two).
I can't tell either from the diagram in the Bentley or from pictures of mirror bases that I found around the internet what precisely is supposed to retain the spring clip in the mirror base. I can get a used mirror base locally, but I'm just not quite sure whether the problem is with the base, the spring clip, or both...
How to remove the rear view mirror? I've tried pulling, turning and twisting without any success. I have become spoiled by the self dimming mirrors in my other rides and want to add one with the Home Link buttons.
View 6 RepliesAdjusting rear view mirror? When I adjust my seat to the right position, then my rear view mirror shows me my rear deck where sub woofer located. I adjust the seat down and forward a bit and I can see about 70% of the rear glass. I have already raised my rear view mirror all the up.
View 11 RepliesMy friend bumped my mirror with his head and it's now hanging loose (pictures: Busted Rear View Mirror - Imgur ). It was very cold when this happened, which I assume is why it happened so easily. I have tried a 3M adhesive (in a warmer environment), but the mirror was too heavy and didn't even come close to setting it in place.
So I'm wondering if there is a trick I'm missing. Does the mirror detach somewhere? Is there a specific kind of glue/epoxy I should be using?
Rear-view mirror got knocked loose. How can I fix it? [with pics] : Cartalk
The rear view mirror went dark today and is staying that way. Sideview are OK. Button on bottom of the mirror does nothing. Maybe a fuse? But which one?
