I have a 2012 camry hybrid that had the stock push button radio and I wanted to add a backup camera. So I picked up a 2013 camry entune display head unit to replace the stock one without a display.
The backup camera does not work when the car is in reverse and I see that the mpg and other data does not update on the radio display, although all of the same data is displayed on the instrument cluster.
Is it possible to add a backup camera to a 2012 Camry LE and have it display on the display screen? I have read that many people have added backup cameras to their SEs or XLEs with navigation systems but I wasn't sure if it was possible on a basic LE with no nav. If it is possible to add a backup camera to an LE, which brands will work and where can you typically get them installed?

How to disable those really useful messages like "phone connection successful" when using the backup camera?
Being sarcastic but I think those messages are actually a safety hazard when using the back up camera since they just pop a take up a lot of screen real estate that I would rather see used to see if I'm about to hit some car or pedestrian.
Is there anyway to view the backup camera when the car is not in reverse? During driving, while stopped, etc.?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2007 Prius and the MFD started to work intermittently and now has died. It is an 86110-47230. Is it more likely the MFD unit itself died or does the wiring in the dash sometimes go bad. Everything I have read suggests the MFD. My backup cam doesn’t work since the MFD died, and that is a safety issue and should be covered under some type of Fed safety regulations on a five year old car, but apparently not.
My battery tests good. Wiring connections on the back are connected well. Before I buy a used MFD and install it myself, I want to get an idea of the odds that it’s the MFD or wiring that is the problem.
Like the title, my backup camera on the limited sometimes doesn't work. Why this might be happening? This started happening few days ago...., I installed HID about three~four months ago and I just installed my led tail lights...

The side mirrors tilt down and the rear shade will lower when put in reverse but the screen just stays on the navigation screen no flicker or black screen.. What could be the problem?

View 6 RepliesI have a weird problem with my 2006 with HID headlights and 78k miles. When I turn on the headlights, the reverse camera turns on & so do the back-up white lights. I can clear the reverse camera by pushing any button, but the back-up lights are a big problem. No codes are being seen via ODB, everything else works great, and no fuses appear to be blown.
View 15 RepliesMy reverse camera goes over the mirror, its a mirror when not in use and a camera when in reverse. The way this one is set up, the camera taps switched 12 volts at the rear of the car (tapped trailer connector for these) and the video signal runs forward (ran under headliner to center console to mirror). The monitor needs 12 volts, ground, and + 12 volts when I shift into reverse. I just read a half dozen threads where people suggested tapping into a black wire with pink stripe in the driver's kick panel. Just checked, no such wire on mine. I do not want to run a wire back from the taillight, this seems backwards since the power goes from the front of the truck to the reverse light in the taillight I just need to find the right wire. I checked the reverse relay and the fuse in the fusebox and they are both 12 volts when the truck is on, so they must be prior to the reverse switch.
View 14 RepliesI recently had an issue of my car not starting, battery empty, so battery needed a charger to start the car, but now the Nav screen does not work at all. no backup camera, nothing. Radio still works fine.
So i am guessing its a fuse. I looked at the fuse box on the driver side, but can't seem to find the appropriate fuse.
My new head unit supports a backup camera, and wiring it in is no challenge.
What IS challenging me is where to mount the bugger, and where to pass the wire through to the trunk front the outside.
I dropped the trunk lid liner and did not see any grommets or pass-through spots for the cables. Do I need to drill a hole and silicone it, or is there something I am missing? If I have to drill, I guess I can do it under the chrome trim piece that holds the trunk lock keyway.
I just bought a 2 din DVD HU and will install a backup camera with it for my 2005 Camry LE.
A few questions:
1) what's the best way to run video cable from HU to trunk? Through side panel then under door molding or through center storage console then under the carpet?
2) what method do you recommend to tap into backup light for +12V to power the camera? Is there a breakout wire harness that I can buy, or splice the wire (then solder them together) or use a wire tap connector (never used these before, are they reliable and do they hold together a couple years)?

My wife has a 2010 camry le, and I am interested in possibly getting a higher end backup camera that works with a rear view mirror (the car does not have a nav screen).
I hear some of these cameras are infrared as well? It would be cool if I could use a Toyota system (OEM). A mirror like this would be perfect:
Occasionally i get a vertical line on the left side of the screen when the backup camera is on. Its like the old film days with the line running down on the screen. I can't recreate it.

Bulbs, wiring and fuses are fine. Backup lights sometimes work for short periods of time if you jiggle the socket on top of the PNP switch. Tried spraying the sockets with wd 40 but did not work. know if cleaning the PNP will resolve this?
