While looking in the engine compartment, I noticed that the steering linkage behind the engine where it comes out of the firewall and connects to the steering box is rusting... Bad. The car is only a year old, but the linkage looks like it's 10 years old. Should I be concerned?
View 5 RepliesWe just sold our 04 Supercrew that was rusting out from underneath itself. I was unsure of what to get next until I drove this 2012 F140 XLT supercrew with the ecoboost. It is in fantastic shape and drive great. It does have 90k on its odometer and I wasn't sure if that should be of any real concern.
It was a one owner trade in and you would never tell the mileage by looking at it. I averaged 5k miles per year for the 5 years I owned my 04 so I don't drive real far. I also tow a 20' ultra lite camper which may get upgraded to a 24' ultra lite in a few years.
I just didn't know if I should be concerned about the high mileage with my driving habits and not driving very much. Do these motors have any maintenance issues? Everything I've read seems to be good....

2012 F150 XLT Ecoboost with 90k.....
I just put on headers and after running into the infamous rattle sound I found an additional issue. The steering linkage seems to be rubbing or binding on right hand turns. Any normal 90 degree right hand turn will prevent me from taking the wheel beyond a certain point. I have had to make wide swooping turns. I feel the steering wheel stop further progress turning to the right and it gets a heavy rattle feel in the steering wheel.

View 14 RepliesI'm going on a slight curved highway at 70mph. If I let go of the steering wheel, the car maintains course following the curvature of the lane. The steering doesn't straighten itself out like doing a normal turn. Noticed this? Is this a "feature"?

View 7 RepliesMy 2012 F250 has begun making a noise. The noise is coming from somewhere in the linkage (drivetrain). It sounds like new knobby tires on a paved road but not constant more like (rrrr-rrrr-rrrr). The frequency of the noise increases the faster the vehicle moves. It does not make the sound while revving the engine in park and the noise does not change between dirt road of paved road, so I'm pretty sure it's not the tires or the engine. Could it be something like the tachometer needing lubricant??? Its kind of loud.
View 12 RepliesMy Ultra white IS350 is 15 months old, and when I took out the screws to my license plate today, I noticed a little bit of rust on the mounts (where the screws would go into).
I believe this is a pretty common issue for all cars - essentially, the mount was sprayed with body paint, but the paint would be stripped when you put a screw in. It's just a matter of time before that happens.
I am just concerned it would rust through my trunk if I continue to leave it.
FYI: I already use stainless steel screws
My 2010 F150 super crew cab is rusting from the inside out on both cab corners. I purchased my truck about 3 years ago with 75,000 miles on it. After about 3 months I noticed the 3rd brake light was leaking. I went to the dealer but they wouldn't warranty it due to the mileage. They did acknowledge that there was a problem with the 3rd brake lamp leaking and was willing to sell me new parts. So I repaired that ASAP. I don't how long is was leaking prior to that. Fast forward a couple years later the corners are starting to bubble. I am assuming this what caused the cab corners to rust.
View 4 RepliesI was checking the oil in my truck yesterday. I noticed the passenger side exhaust manifold was flaking rust. I mean flaking bad, big chunks coming off. Even the heat shield was rusted bad enough that it is barely holding on. Looks like in a couple years will need replaced. I have never seen this on my other Fords.

View 14 RepliesOk. I wanted to pick the minds to make it easier. In the photos the lower steering linkage is loose (bottom bar with ring on the end connected to knuckle) and needs replacement. To fix this is it just a bushing inside? Is it unscrewing the end like replacing a tie rod?

View 27 RepliesHave noticed lately 2012 4x4 sc with 42,000 k has a slight vibration I guess you would call it you can feel through your fingers at certain speeds. I looked and felt tires which are at approximately 4,000 k from being new and they are wearing on the inside, going to rotate and have it aligned asap.

Do all of the Accents have an issue with the steering wheel not returning to center but staying slightly off center? I like the steering overall, but this really throws me. Should I see if the dealer can check its alignment? I like how it feels in corners, but going straight is much worse than I thought it was from the test drives I did....
My car is a manual and for now I have been curious to see how the eco pro mode suggests I shift. It never registers that I am in 4th gear and will keep telling me to be in 4th until I have accelerated enough to get to 5th (or 6th). Does this sound like something might be broken? Would it not registering 4th gear have any effect on anything else in the car?
How long do these stock tires tend to last? I'm not in any rush to spend money on new tires, but these stock ones are... good at some things and bad at others.
I am liking the reported MPGs on it so far. I reset it far too often just to see how different trips are reported. My worst one so far was a 13 miles trip on streets going over a 700 foot hill twice. I still got 32mpg reported.
I have a 2012 Camry SE with Bridgestones. I've had it in to the dealer twice for a vibration at 60 - 75 mph in the steering. They've replaced two front tires, balanced all four tires both times, and the vibration is still there. It's very noticeable on smooth roads but no so much on repaved (tar and chip) roads. The car also wanders at highway speeds. They've tried adjusting the tire pressure from 35 to 32 which affects the ride and gas mileage but doesn't affect the vibration. The problem seems worse when the tires are up to temperature which increases the tire pressure. I'm not real happy with this brand new car. It only has 1500 miles on it.
View 13 RepliesI just bought a 2014.5 Camry SE and the day I drive it off the lot I noticed it shaking at around 40mph. I made an appt. fort the following week and they said the found all 4 tires had flat spots so they replaced all with 4 new tires. Well, about a week later the shaking started again. Now it's worse than before, especially at higher speeds. I dropped it off today.
