View 14 RepliesThis car runs rough after forward gear shifts unless I give the accelerator a push. Seems like problem is at lower RPM after shift. This condition improves after 30-40 miles. About 60K miles now.
View 11 RepliesWe have been having this ongoing issue with the ventilation system in our 2013 Camry XLE during cold outside temperatures since last fall.
When the system is in the auto setting and set around 70-72 deg. F, the system delivers a comfortable temperature from the floor vents or a combination of the floor vents and defrost. The temperature that I measure is usually in the 100-115 deg. F range. After about 20 - 30 minutes of driving, the system will switch on the dash vents along with the floor vents. At this time the temperature coming out of the dash vents is cold and frequently measured as low as 53 deg. F. Along with this the floor vents are still delivering warm air. Been an automatic system I would expect the supply temperature to modulate to maintain the cabin temperature to the desired setting but not in this manner. All this is on overcast very cold winter days.
I drove the vehicle the other day when the outside temp was around 12 deg. F with the sun shining resulting in a bit of a greenhouse effect inside. With the control set at 70 deg. F and in auto I noticed that the air was only coming out of the dash vents and was a bit warmer this time (about 60 deg. F). This scenario is a bit more acceptable although the floor area was cold as expected considering the cold outside temperature.
I have taken the car to our dealer who has tried to diagnose the situation and have replaced one sensor that resulted in no change. They have been in contact with Toyotas technical dept. as well for assistance. They are indicating that all the air comes from one box and it is impossible to get colder air from the dash vents. Obviously with our current situation this is not the case. The service manager at the dealer was hoping to test the operation of another similar vehicle but so far has been unsuccessful.
This has been going on since last fall after my wife complained about it and was not happening the previous winter. Presently when this situation occurs we switch the control to manual damper control to shut off the cold air blowing in our faces.
I recently traded in my 2013 Audi TTRS in a very limited edition color. For my 2008 Lexus ISF... With 71k Miles. And I feel as if the car is very sluggish and up shifts are slow even with sport mode on! My buddy has an ISF as well and he even said mine shifts slower than his. I was wondering if maybe the previous owner skipped a few key maintainence things to cause such an issue. And yes I know how to drive a care, yes it's in sport mode and yes the vehicle is warmed prior to stupidity. The last recorded maintenance was at 60K miles.
View 14 RepliesI now have 1025 miles on my SE with the 2.4L. I will admit that I drove the car very easy during the first 800 miles. The car has always wanted to shift into higher gears way too quick even in normal mode. I was told that the computer may have been "trained" to be being a conservative driver. I am not a speed racer, but I do not drive like I have nowhere to go either. I have tried driving a little more aggressively (holding down the throttle and making it shift around 2500-3000 rpm when I can), but it still has not worked. When I make a certain turn and up a hill, the car chugs up the hill until it finally decides to downshift into a lower gear and it will finally go. If in sport mode, it does fine. I cannot leave in sport mode however because I do a lot of freeway driving and it will not shift into overdrive in sport mode, at least my car don't which I find odd??
Another problem area is when I first start out, I go up a grade on a highway. I have to literally press the pedal down about 3/4 way to even get it to speed (55 mph) within a reasonable amount of time... it was only around 2300-2500 rpm and I was almost flooring it. I pressed down the pedal more and it finally kicked into a lower gear and hit up to 3300 rpm and finally took off. Something is not right and I am not happy with my brand new car that I paid almost $19,000 for. I enjoy driving my 1991 Cadillac more than I do this new car and it is a heck of a lot faster than my Hyundai. I do love the MPG I get with the Hyundai... around 31 mpg on average versus 19 mpg on the Caddy.
I just don't know what is going on with my car. I am wondering if I need to get the computer reset or something?
There is only one thing I don't like about our new SF. The transmission shifts from 4th to 5th gear at approximately 60 km/hr (36 mph +/-) and the rpm's drop to 1500 rpm. Now, when I want to speed up a tad (which is a frequent occurrence when driving around town), there is a pronounced hesitation before it drops back into 4th gear and accelerates.
In 5th gear at 1500 revs, I find that the engine is 'lugging' a bit. Yesterday, I started to compensate for this by changing to manual shifting as soon as the trannie shifted into 4th gear and leaving it there when I was traveling in that 60 kph speed area. For me, this is MUCH better and I quite like doing some of the shifting any way since I spent so many years driving manual transmission equipped cars.
How have others found the car to be when driving around town? Other than that, I really enjoy this car. Easily the most comfortable seats of any car I've ever owned --- their design provides terrific lumbar support and the new cloth material has a great 'feel' to it.
Just experienced something new in my less than a week old 2.0T. This morning was the coldest day since buying it (-15c). I had the block heater plugged in and it started up well. Let the engine run for my usual 30-40 seconds before putting it into gear. Reversed well, but was a bit slow shifting after putting it into 1st.
For the first 5 minutes or so of the drive, the shift were pretty rough. Mostly the shift between 1st and 2nd gear. Things got better after that and were fine for the rest of my trip and also an hour later when I came home.
Is this just a case of a very cold transmission and fluid, or is it something else? I've never owned a car that had such rough shifting in cold weather. Sluggish shifts yes, but not violent like these were.
I just bought a brand new 2013 Elantra! I love the car, but over the past week or so I have started to feel the car's transmission (auto) jerk when it shifts from 3rd to 4th gear. I feel the car hesitate somewhat when going from 3rd and then jerk into 4th gear if that makes any sense. The car has less than 1000 miles and it never did it when I first bought it. The transmission was always smooth until recently. Also, when coasting down the road I feel the car jerk forward when I give it some gas which also feels very strange to me!?
View 37 RepliesWhen cool to cold my 13 2.5L Camry SE 12k miles has shifts that are 'crisp' (not meaning that is good). It I s like it rides up to an rpm and throws on the clutch and the RPMs drop by 200rpm and then she pulls into gear. No slamming but feels like a sports car driver changing gears with just a moment of that 'transition float' between gears cause by physically moving a clutch pedal. An actual noticeable shift feeling and a moment of floating 1/2 second transition. Is this 'flare'?
I guess I could just say this... It feels like it is truly 'going between gears' rather than the typical slush sliding into gear like most all automatics do.
I noticed yesterday that each time I turned the car on it would automatically be set in EcoMode. I thought our cars start in normal mode because of epa mpg testing purposes. I'm not complaining just wondering how this happened on its own since I've read on this site that the GS starts on normal. I have a '15 model.

The car did not come with a remote and i feel archaic without it. I have ordered the remote from amazon but the car fails to go into programming mode. One thing i noticed while watching a video was as soon as the key was in the slot (not turned) the car started beeping. Mine doesn't do that.
Also the transmission seems to slip during 3rd and 4th. The car has only 65k and has not been used much by the previous owner. I have read about an issue that is 3rd and 4th flare?? is this a very common issue? I am thinking of doing the transmission fluid change..Will this cure it or is it a mechanical issue or software?
The issue isn't present during all 3rd and 4th shifts just happens every now and then.
When the truck shifts into 5th gear i instantly feel a constant vibration and noise until it shifts to 6th gear. This happens nearly every time while driving at 40mph. Rpm range 1200 - 2000. I bought the truck new on June 30th and noticed the problem on my way to work on Monday July 2nd. Took it to the dealer on July 5th and the tech said it was the torque converter slipping. I drove it home because they didn't have time to work on it. Took it back on July 12th and the dealer has had it since (currently 30 days) They originally told me it was not the engine or transmission and it was an exhaust problem. Last week they said it was the motor mounts and said they would be done.

View 6 RepliesThis is my experience while test driving one that was traded back in very quickly. It had about 1000 miles on it. I've read some of the complaints about the transmission on the 2012 and how it's suffered for the sake of fuel economy. Yet some people are perfectly happy with their 2012's.
I remember seeing in the complaints that driving in sport mode made the Tiguan drive more like the previous model years. I have never owned a Tiguan but in this test drive regular "D" definitely felt better/smoother though a little underpowered at times.
Maybe I just don't know anything about sport mode but it was loud without any real pickup at certain points (I guess that's call hesitation). Is it supposed to be noisy and act this way?
I just traded in my 14 IS 350 for 13 GS 350. In my IS, while i'm driving at any speed and change mode from Normal to Sport, i can see the RPM change higher instantaneously. But in 13 GS 350, nothing happens in RPM gauge. Is the 6 and 8 transmission different here ?
View 14 RepliesI'm having a ton of fun driving in Sport transmission mode. One thing I'm noticing though is pretty rough downshifting from 3-2-1 sometimes. Often I hear and feel a clunk.
So I'm wondering if the transmission may not be adapted to me yet, since I've only had the car for 5 weeks, or could I be looking at an issue. No lights or warnings on the dash.
Also wondering if there is a way to "reset" the learning algorithm of the transmission without the VAGCOM?
I've looked through all the settings on both the phone and the car and can't seem to find anything. My phone is connected to the Bluetooth system and I am able to use it fine. Only issue I have is that when I get in the car my phone automatically turns to vibrate mode if I get a call or text even though I have it set to "Loud". This is fine for a call because the radio will stop and the ringing notification turns on but not fine for when I am receiving a text. I do not hear the vibration and no sound comes from the car to notify me on an incoming text. Can this be changed to have the phone make normal notification noises even though I am in the car?
View 13 RepliesWhen driving in Sport Mode I have a violent down shift as the car slows and heads into second gear from third. It doesn't seem to matter if I am going 40 miles an hour around town or 70 miles an hour coming off the freeway. There has been a few times where the jerk is so hard that seatbelt tensioner tightens. Is this a normal aggressive function of the sport setting, or is this something else? Perhaps related to the transmission valve/hard second gear shift issue?

View 3 RepliesI have been reading some topics with people having issues with their Camry transmissions and torque converters. I have 15000 miles now and I'm noticing not as smooth shifts anymore from 1st to 3rd gear. It also jerks a little when you suddenly step back on the gas.
