I just purchased a hid kit with relay harness i installed everything and double checked wires/connections etc.. and everything is correct when I turn on my lights they flicker on startup but the driver side will continue to flicker a little bit. I tried buying another kit swapping ballasts/ switching lights left side to right and still the driver side will continue to flicker what can i do?
View 14 RepliesI have a 2011 Camry. The last few weeks, I've had an intermittent issue with the AC not initializing properly on engine startup and I get no AC. The AC light will be on, the blower works normally, but changing the AC/heat blend dial has no effect, I get full heat no matter what the setting.
The only way to make the AC come back on is turn the car off and restart. On ignition, instead of the climate control cluster lights and the blower coming on immediately, the rear defrost light will blink amber for about 10 seconds before the climate control system initializes and usually, the AC will come on at that point.
I had it into the shop and they could not figure out what was going on. No computer codes. They finally said the compressor current was spiking over spec and replaced it. However, two days later and it's happening again, worse than ever in that it took like six restarts for the system to initialize properly this morning after I pulled over because I was getting roasted.
I got the aftermarket lights through Yefeng, with quad HIDS. So after a while, Cluster lights, Vanity mirror lights, tail lights, cabin roof lights all started to flicker or strobe faintly. Very noticeable either when lights are on or off, drive or park.
Car has less than 12k miles.
I've been driving it like that with no problems. Except one morning before I left to work, car wouldn't start. (Happened randomly) Battery is good, alternator is good. Could something be pulling power from the alternator? I have no clue.
So, after all, my sonata engine oil light started flickering yesterday on the way home from work. The light would come on on idle only. I tried to keep the light off by maintaining higher rpm. I knew I have enough oil and I was 2700 miles only in my oil change. Sonata has 97k miles. It was checked by the dealer on Feb 2016 for the engine recall. Dealer said no issues found. Even tough I always hear my engine is noisy. I tried to contact the dealer, they didn't promise any support or any good.
So, I took it to my trusted mechanic and did a proper oil change and filter using 10w30 full synthetic oil. Starting the engine, the light started flickering after 15 min idle. Always using Hyundai's genuine filters and changing full synthetic oil every 4k miles. It looks like the engine is bad. What do you think? Keep pushing on Hyundai's dealer will get me any good? Should I just rebuild / swap engine or just it is the time to get rid of the car? What to do. Dealer really reported no issue with engine when performing recall. 3k miles later in normal driving conditions the oil light is on...
I recently purchased a 2011 Sonata GLS and I love it. However, I'm having a slight electrical issue.
While driving at night with the headlights on occasionally they'll dim and flicker and often cut off completely while driving or parked. The interior and dash lights will also switch off with the headlights, however the radio will still continue to play. The lights only stay off for a second and then come back on. Sometimes I can make them flicker and go off by turning on my blinker or switching between high and low beams.
I'm trying to figure out if it's a problem with the alternator, the battery, or the fuses and if this is a known issue.
Disclaimer: When I refer to lights, I mean the back-lit radio controls.

I have a 2014.5 SE Sport and the only thing I can think of is I always have my parking lights on (cuz I turned off DRL) but they always turn off when I open my car. Each time I try to record it, it stops doing it. It usually only last for a few seconds but just thought it to be odd.
I have a 2003 Camry V6 LE.
Yesterday the headlights did not turn off automatically when the car was locked up after being driven for about 30 minutes. Unfortunately, this was not detected until about 8 hours later.
The door locks would not function with the remote and the doors were manually unlocked.
When I got in the car and tried to start the car the dash and dome lights began blinking/flickering, the CD player ejected the CD, and the security light was blinking as it would if the doors were still locked.
The battery was too low to start the car so I jumped the car to start it and got home.
Battery showed 12.7 volts cold the next morning before the car was started. While running there was about 14.3 volts across the battery terminals which would seem to say the charging system is OK. Battery is just under 3 years old.
Doing some testing, I found that the headlights would turn on with the multifunction switch without the car running. In this case they would not turn off through locking the doors even after double clicking the lock button on the remote. The only way to turn them off in this case was through the multifunction switch.
Other testing shows that if the lights were turned on with the car running, they would turn off automatically within about 30 seconds or so when the car was shut off and the doors locked. In another similar test with the engine running and then shut down I also tried the double click lock using the remote and this also turned the lights off immediately.
Based on research on TN site, one recommendation for a similar, but not identical, problem was to replace the multifunction switch. No one suggests replacing the headlight relay or any of the 4 DRL relays.
2012 camry se v6 ...have a dome light flicker at stop..idle..in gear...and most noticeable at night. Dealership checked alternator. all ok according to their device. I made them show me. They changed the battery saying it was bad which changed the flicker a bit but didnt remove it. (could also be crazy and just wanted it to fix it) Overall just annoying but dont think it should be doing it. The dealership said this was normal for this car with the JBL audio. The car is completely stock, no modifications. Dont trust their response. Car is just out of warranty and just purchased.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2008 Solara Convertible. My passenger low light headlight has been flickering on and off for months now and it has now reached the point of just staying off most of the time.
So I went to a auto parts store and the guy said the bulbs were special and I needed to take them to a mechanic. So I did and that guy told me that I can't change my own headlight bulbs because they're HID?? And if I try, I'll electrocute myself. Is this true?
Also, if this isn't true, how can I found out how to change the bulb and what brand/part is in there so I can buy them online? Does the instructions in the basic owner's manual work for HID bulbs (unscrew, pull out, replace)??
2003 - Just recently my battery light started coming on and off on the dash, and occasionally my headlights would turn off and come back on. Now the ABS and BRAKE lights flash and the headlights are still on and off. I have already scraped (not cleaned) most of the corrosion off of the terminals on the battery and tightened the connections...

A technician once told me it's going to be a flush.

So I'm nearing my wits end. I have an '11 GTI DSG, CCTA, second owner. The problem has been happening as soon as I bought it, when it was only 6 months old.
When the engine is not fully warm, but warm-ish, the engine doesn't reliably start on the first try. I have KESSY, so I push the start button and hold it. When I release it (not too soon, mind you) the engine will idle very rough. The tach will bounce between 200 and 700 rpm. Sometimes the engine will die completely. Other times, the idle will stabilize at the right engine speed after a few seconds of roughness.
It seems like this happens most often when the car has been parked for 1 to 3 hours. However, I have had it happen very rarely when cold as well as minutes after parking. But definitely it seems to happen mostly when it has been allowed to cool slightly for 1-3 hours.
I've got youtube videos. I'll post links. I've contacted VWOA. I have a case. They tested the fuel system and believe everything is okay. They told me they suspected bad gas. I religiously used Shell 93. So they, under warranty, flushed the fuel tank. Okay, so I switched to Chevron 93. Well, the problem still happens!!! As far as I know, no parts have been replaced yet.
My car is at the dealership now, they called me today and want to give up. This would be the 5th time I've taken it in for this problem.
One thing I forgot to mention. When the engine has just started and is idling roughly, if I stab the gas pedal a little, it will bring up the revs to 2-3000rpm and 90% of the time the engine will then settle into a smooth idle immediately after the revs drop. It's almost as if the mixture is so rich that it has got the plugs wet (if this were carbureted, that'd be the first thing I would suspect)
Initially thought that this was related to some water in the tank, since it started when the gas dropped to 1 bar (already put some stuff HEET when put the whole tank, did 60miles so far). ODB throws out multiple cylinder misfire (codes 300, 301, 302, 303 etc). It lasts up to 3 seconds. Sometimes the check engine pops up sometimes it doesn't. there was absolutely no problem under load. does it seem like a fairly common problem ? Intake manifold clogged ?
View 14 RepliesWhile we continue to enjoy our recently acquired Mineral Gray 2011 Santa Fe, I have noted a momentary engine noise upon startup after it has been shut down for say 2 hours or more.
The noise reminds me of having an oil filter with a malfunctioning or absent drain back valve where by the bearings will complain for 2-3 seconds until oil pressure rebuilds
The SF has but 20.7K miles on it to date. Do we know of this is usual for the V6, or should I be concerned and planning a dealer visit?
I love the power of the V6! We test drove a 4 cylinder model first thinking that was the way to go for economy reasons. I found this one with such low mileage, AWD, and the V6 at a great price so we jumped on it.
I am a little disappointed though that the AWD does not function "full time" like that on my 04 Dodge Durango. The SF runs rings around the Durango in the mpg department though.
Car wouldn't start, would just kind of do a high pitch whining. Bought new battery and still does it. It might crank right up or take up to 5-6 times. I'm a second owner and I believe it is the starter.

I have always noticed it in my passenger mirror, but yesterday I decided to stand behind the car and watch it right after starting it up, and I actually saw a few puffs of black smoke coming out with the steam. I'm not losing any coolant, so I think all of this must be caused by the engine running extremely rich when cold, the fumes were pretty bad too. Once the idle settles down the black puffs go away, but the steam lasts a good while. I have never had a newer car run so rich that it caused black sooty smoke.
View 2 RepliesMy jeep is 6 months old. From day one it has erratic starter problems. Often when starting it, the starter keeps on cranking after I let go of the key! The ignition switch visually returns to the run position, but is electronically stuck in start mode. When this happens I quickly shut off the ignition and try again. Jeep cant duplicate the problem, and says Chrysler has no bulletins about this.

View 9 RepliesI have a 2011 santa fe limited with the 3.5 and 35k miles that has a noisy timing chain rattle upon start up after sitting for a few hours,it's my understanding that the cause is no oil pressure to the tensioner because the oil drains back into the oil pan after sitting for a while. Is there a solution for this situation like a spring loaded tensioner-it seems to me that replacing the tensioner and chain does not solve the problem.

View 7 RepliesI've got a 2011 F-150 FX4 Supercab with the 5.0L.
I've noticed that very seldom when starting it up, something under the hood squelch's very briefly. The trucks got 3019.0 miles on it as I write this letter. The actual noise itself come's and goes in less than 1/2 a second, and the trucks only made this noise 3 times during the 3000 miles I've owned it, and all the times have been fairly far apart.
I was wondering if this would be cause for concern? My old 1990 F-150 use to do this, but its issue was the bearings going out in the alternator. With only 3000 miles on my new truck the bearings should be a non-issue. Everything should be a non-issue for that matter. I'm not actually all that concerned about it, as I said in 3000 miles its only happened about 3 times...So once every thousand miles or so. And as I said the noise comes and goes in less than a second, and truck always runs just fine. Its never driven any differently.
Could this be attributed to all the heat we have been having lately? I live West Texas and right now 105 to 110 degree days are pretty much the norm, and have been for almost 2 months now. Could the excessive heat cause any to screech like that? And of course the truck has not been overheated, nor has it shown any signs of overheating.
