Just bought a 09 Camry, 40k miles, nice car. Drove it very little before I put on the winter tires, different rims also. Notice a terrible vibration at lower (more of a pulse) to mid speeds, it smoothes out at 60-70 though.
I've read HIGH SPEED BALANCING, which I had a garage locally balance it on his machine, I think that is HS balancing? I believe the tire spinds at 50-100 mph??
When I bought my 2007 tundra used a year ago, it has always had a vibration that affected the whole car (not steering-wheel specific), and was worst at 60-65mph, but a hint was there even at lower speeds. It was annoying, but bearable, for example if you look at the passenger seat at these speeds, you can see it wiggle back and forth about 1/2". It seemed highway speeds were where it hit a resonant frequency.
In the past month, things have gotten much worse and when the truck has been sitting for a few days, if I quickly leave the house and hop on the freeway (only about 1/2 mile away, I get a vicious vibration mostly in the steering wheel and less so in the rest of the cab. The wheel wiggles about an inch and a half back and forth at highway speeds and letting off the gas, braking, accelerating doesn't make much of difference, just speeds up or slows down the vibration frequency.
The wild thing is that it gets much better after about 2-3 miles. No longer really shaking, just a mild vibration like it has always had. If the truck is warm and I hop back on the freeway a few hours later, no vibration, just when leaving the house in the morning.
I'm having issue with my Camry making noise recently. It usually happens at lower speeds ~50km/hr, city driving. When going over bumps, rail road tracks, bridges, etc. it makes a metallic clinking sound that kinda lasts when the car is bumping up and down, if there are multiple bumps, it seem to be worse.
Going at highway speed and on smooth roads, doesn't seem to be much problem, or it occurs much less frequently.
Just had front Rotors and 4 brake pads replaced. Afterward, I noticed after the car has been in motion for a few minutes, a low rumble sound and vibration occurs randomly and usually at low RPM 1500-2500. Vehicle is a 2009 Highlander 4 cyl at 72000 miles.
Toyota service dealer ran diagnostic check and could not find anything.
Second opinion - mechanic swears it's coming from transmission drum and beginning of trans going.
Third opinion- shocks are starting to go and likely root cause on the sound/sensation.
Fourth opinion, wheel alignment or warped rotor likely the cause.
Performed wheel alignment, slight improvement but rumble is still evident. One replaced rotor has a pronounced groove on exterior. Serviceman suggested we won the lottery and the groove came from a rock from the street hitting the rotor.
Finally, it was determined we need to replace intermediate drive shaft due to knocking sound when turning the steering wheel. Not likely related to the low rumble.
Purchased a loaded SEV6 with 60k a couple months ago. It's a pretty car, but I'm a little concerned about the transmission's behavior. I previously owned a 2000 Camry LE 4 banger and even at 140k it shifted effortlessly. So it comes as a surprise that my new car hesitates, hangs, and then snaps into gear. This happens mostly at lower speeds, between 20 and 40 I'd say. It's actually given me a noticeable jolt a couple of times. This seems out of character for a Camry, no? I couldn't find any info on TSB's for this. What could be going wrong?
View 9 RepliesI have a 2010 Camry LE, 2.5L auto, with approx 35k miles. While driving between 65-75 mph (I don't drive above that, so I can't tell you if it keeps going), I get a slight vibration in the seat, floorboard, and steering wheel. If no one is in the passenger front seat you can look over and see the headrest and seat vibrating like a massage chair.
I had the wheels checked and three were bent (I bought it used, so I don't know how the wheels got bent). I had new aftermarket wheels installed, same 16 inch size as the OEM. That didn't fix it. I had the wheels/tires hunter road force balanced, found out the two in the back were out of spec. So I had brand new Michelin MXV4's installed all around and hunter road force balance. That didn't fix it (though it is a lot better -- clearly the bad tires and bad wheels were causing part of the problem).
I had the car aligned to perfection. That didn't fix it.
I had a rear brake that was rubbing so I replaced the discs and pads in the back, but that didn't fix it.
I've checked all the wheel bearings for any signs of being loose, but they don't shake at all when the car is jacked up.
I've checked the struts, both by bumping the car at the corners and a visual inspection, but see nothing wrong with them.
I've checked the CV shafts -- the boots are fine, there's no play in them, nothing.
I've taken the dogbone mount off and checked it -- no cracks.
I've taken apart the front brakes to check them. No problems there (they even have new discs).
I've checked the ball joints -- no play. I've checked the steering linkage -- no play.
There's no pulsation in the brake pedal.
If the car is vibrating at a lower speed, it's not noticeable. But once you hit about 65-70, it becomes obvious to the driver. I've had passengers in the car who didn't notice, but they aren't holding onto the steering wheel and pushing the gas pedal. Both give a massaging-like pulsation.
I have a 2012 Sierra 1500 SLE with a 5.3 liter engine, 6 speed transmission and about 7700 miles. I have noticed that at times the truck does not seem to be performing efficiently and will not seem as smooth and transmission shifting is sometimes not so smooth in the lower gears. I have noticed that when I let the truck warm up for about a minute before putting it in gear, that all seems to go much more smoothly, but if I crank up cold and take off right away, then it tends to run not as smooth. I have even heard a slight "slap" type noise that I think is the transmission shifting when slowing down to make a turn at about 15-20 MPH. When I go to accelerate after the turn, it will sometimes slap as if it is hunting for the right gear. Obviously, I now let it warm up for a minute before I drive it. I have not talked to the dealer, but I probably will when I take it in for its 10K checkup.
View 1 RepliesOn my 09' passat wagon 2.0t: I've been on a couple of long highway runs and noticed that my steering wheel is vibrating slightly at higher speeds. Naturally I went for a wheel balance. They showed me one rim was slightly bent from a pot hole or something, but they were able to balance it and put it in the rear. Still a vibration. Took it back to the tire shop and they checked the balance again.
At this point I was still noticing the vibration and went so far as to swap the "damaged" wheel with another off of a passat with the same wheels. No difference noticed. Is it my imagination or is the steering so light in these passats that im feeling every imperfection of the road? I don't remember the car always feeling like this. I am at 14k miles and have the crappy stock good year tires.

I have a 2007 Camry SE V6 with approx 170K miles. A few months ago I took my car into the dealership and they performed a service on my car that is a bit confusing. According to the invoice it is labeled: ENGINE INDUCTION SERVICE COMPLETED FUEL INDUCTION SERVICE. The description for the part is TOP ENG/INDUCT SV.Since this service I have noticed a weird vibration in the car when trying to maintain speeds of 65 to 70 mph. Also, if I were to floor it, the car accelerates rough -it shakes and jerks.
View 2 RepliesFor a while I had been having vibration at between 60-80mph I think I mentioned it in a thread before too. Well anyway when I got my 30,000 mi check up they told me it was probably due to the tires being unbalanced and that my tires were in such bad shape that balancing them woudln't make a difference. So I got to new tires (and my rims as you all remember) from NTB. I took it back to Toyota to get the alignment done after that I got on the highway to see if it was vibrating still and it was so they told me to bring back in.
So today they told me one of the tires that I got at NTB was bad because they couldn't get it balance within the range of the other 3 tires so I took the car back to NTB got into it with the guy there and they eventually saw things my way and put a new tire on the car. So after that I get back on the high way the car starts vibrating right when it hits 60. So I take back to Toyota, the guy tells, I heard him mention to one of the mechanics that it might be a bad axle.
Around 6:30 or so they call me and tell me they are going to take rims and tires off a brand new Camry and put them on my car and the manager who lives far away is going to drive my car home and then back again in the morning to get a better idea of the problem with the car. And to top that off they wanted to charge me 40 bucks for a rental car, but luckily I can drive my dad's Cam to work.
So when i hit ~80km/h (50 miles) some weird extremely small vibration is coming on. You cannot feel it from anywhere but when u touch something, like handbrake then its there. Tho the sound is kinda loud. So the pattern is like, 0.3 seconds it is vibrating and 0.3 is quiet, it does not matter on which road i drive.
This problem cannot be caused by wheels (got other alloys and same problem), also already got alignment and have balanced my wheels. So, what to do?
I have a 2009 Chevy Malibu that gives through rotors every 6 months. I have replaced them 3 times now in 102,000 miles and had them turned multiple times. What happens is about 6,000 miles after I put new rotors on they warp and I get a violent vibration when braking at high speeds. I have been to 3 different dealerships and none of them can figure out why they continue to warp.
View 12 RepliesI'm having an issue with my wife's 2008 Camry. We're feeling vibration at highway speeds. Feels like it's coming from the front passenger side. We've had all 4 tires replaced (two of them replaced twice because we got lucky and the shop gave us a set of 4 for free with all the trouble we were having with the goodyear tires they sold us), and added hub-centric rings to her wheels. There are no noises to tell me whether it's a cv axle or a bearing. I've been under the car and the only thing I can find that comes close to loose is that the passenger side axle has a just a little more side to side play (runout - inner cv) than the driver's side.
View 11 RepliesMy 04 Solara 3.3L vibrates like crazy at highway speeds, but the vibration goes away after a couple of miles, only to return again later, and it isn't a tire balance issue. The vibration comes on quickly, and I have to hold the wheel with both hands, then it slowly diminishes and runs smooth again.
View 4 RepliesI have a 4-cyl 2003 Camry LE with a bit of a vibration issue, but first, some backstory.
I put in new tires about 20,000 miles back and I started to notice a pull to the left side and no amount f alignment would fix it and there was no other discernible issue with the front end.
I read about how some tires have some internal issues with the radial belts and I decided to rotate the tires. No more pull. It didn't change the fact that the tire may be defective and still causing issues.
Could a tire that caused a strong pull on the front end cause a vibration at high speeds in the rear?
After an oil change I noticed my lower engine cover hanging loose in the middle. Much searching has not found the part number. Underbody engine shield fasteners. Any quick reference for these? 2009 Camry 4 cyl XLE.
View 11 Replies2005 town country, on interstate, cruise a 85, drives smooth, then vibrates pretty good, it will vibrate for a few seconds then smooth, then vibrate. the vibration is felt everywhere, steering wheel, seats, even the outside mirrors vibrate, at 60 we don't feel it much, at 45 nothing. we notice when coming to a slow stop or just scooting up in traffic that it seems to have a little wobble to it too.
All brakes and rotors and all motor and transmission mounts are new, struts, strut mounts, sway bar, sway bar end links and bushings are new, have had it checked and nobody can find anything wrong. no clunking noise moving the tires left to right and up and down. alignment is perfect. the tires are crappy but am thinking if it was a tire problem it would vibrate all the time and not on and off. its never been wrecked either. it is a 3.8, front and rear sway bars, long wheel base, nivomat rear.
Wheel bearings? I don't know but would think they'd make noise moving the tires back and forth and side to side. and hear no clunking over bumps at any speed.
So far my pos 04 v8 has had a stepper motor changed, CD changer replaced and 4 new tires at 12000 miles! It's in the shop now for a new airbag harness
The steering wheel vibrates at speeds above 70mph on relatively smooth highways (my Wrx and the crappy Jetta rental I drove today showed no vibration to 90 mph on the same road.). The vibration is slight, but definitely there and noticeable if you take your hands off the wheel not a great way to drive at 75mph.
The dealership says they found no problem with steering wheel vibration.
My question is: is some vibration normal in this vehicle, given vehicle size, tire size, and crappy construction? I'm just not used to seeing any based on the Japanese cars I've always driven.
During very smooth acceleration at any speed, steering vibration is felt which seems to come from bad engine support absorbers. Dealer said this is normal due to powerful V6 engine. Also hear disturbing exhaust sound when accelerating. Wonder if these conditions are related to steering vibration?
View 1 RepliesSo i am trying to diagnose my vibration/noise that i am getting from the front right side of my 08 prius (176k miles). It kind of like a rattle vibration when driving on fairly smooth roads. I jacked up the right side to take a look around to see if anything is out of the ordinary. I did the push pull around the tired to see if there was any motion (there was none). Although there is some play when you manual rotate the wheel, about and inch of circumferential motion. Is this normal ?
