Camry :: 2009 - Front End Vibration Type Humming

May 31, 2016

2009 Camry with 100K Kilometers.

80% of the time the car drives perfectly smooth at all speeds. However, there are times when I'll hear a slight vibration type humming and a little (very little) vibration in the steering wheel. HOWEVER, when I touch the brakes it feels as though the rotor(s) have a major warp in them. It's so bad that I'm afraid to to slow the car with the breaks so I'll usually gear down to a lower speed first.

If I keep driving for another 5 or 10 minutes it will go away completely -- braking is as smooth a butter.

Lexus LS 2007+ :: 2009 - Humming Vibration While Decelerating

I'm getting a vibration through the floorboards when I take my foot off the gas at high speeds. It has a low-pitched (like a subwoofer) hum to it. It's amplified when I go over dips and the suspension compresses, but doesn't exist when the car is in neutral.

This usually happens when im on the highway i guess because im usually going over 50mph I hear like a loud humming and vibration and if I turn the steering wheel left or right it becomes unbearable, like deafening. What may cause this, im thinking maybe i need an alignment or wheel balancing or just new suspension.

Camry :: 2008 - Left Front Strut Is Leaking An Oily-type Fluid

Took 08 Camry w/50k miles for rotation & balance and Alignment check at my neighborhood Michel Tires Plus, was told left front strut is leaking an oily-type fluid. I bought the Platinum Warranty when I bought this car new. The warranty is 7 yr/100,000 miles and there is -0- deductible.

While reading my copy of the Platiunum warranty, it states Exclusions from Platinum Warranty coverage includes shock absorbers, but it says nothing about struts. So are struts covered ?

If Toyota refuses to pay for any repairs, is there any room for negotiation? At this time there is no unusual noise from the strut area of the car.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Humming With Rhythmic Vibration Coming From Driver Side Front Wheel

2008 2wd 4.6L 98K miles F150 for the past few weeks has been humming with a rhythmic vibration which feels like it is coming from driver's side front wheel. It doesn't do it constantly, nor at all speeds. Once I hit about 25mph, you can start to hear a humming. At 35, slight vibration. Between 50-60, heavier vibration. Sometimes at 65+, it subsides quite a bit. Both front rotor assemblies are newer, and I put in a brand new left because I thought it was a bad bearing.

Camry :: Humming From Front End / Drone At 15 - 40 Mph

I just took off my 20" rims and put my stock rims back on for the winter but now I have a humming from the front end that starts at about 15mph and increases loudness to 40mph. At 40mph I can start to feel a light vibration in the wheel and through my feet.

My first thought was the wheels are not balanced but they are fairly new and barely used and where fine at the end of last winter. It just doesn't seem like that is the issue. As I was thinking about it more, when I had the 20"s on I remember thinking it seems like the road noise is considerable louder recently but I just passed it off as the low profile tires because they are in fact a lot louder than the stock tires. After putting the stock wheels on I was expecting to have my nice quiet and comfortable ride back like I always do during this time of year but not this time.

I tried driving in tight circles but I couldn't get the car going fast enough to see if it was a wheel bearing on one side.

It's an 04 camry XLE V6.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Vibration Felt In Steering Wheel / Humming Sound Coming From Driver Side Front

I have a 2003 F150 manual 4WD with 4.6L engine and 165000 miles. When i am driving i feel a vibration in the steering wheel and on floor board that intensifies when i press the accelerator. I do hear an irregular humming that sounds like it is coming from the driver side front. I checked the wheel for any play but it was very tight. i check tie rod ends, ball joints no play. i recently changed both u-joints on the rear shaft and the bearing hub on the passenger side front. Also, the steering feels a little 'wobbly' when i make sharp turns. it almost feels like it is giving. What else should i check?

Camry :: 2009 - Humming Noise From Passenger Side When Heater Is On

My wife's 2009 Camry has started making a humming noise from the passenger side when the heater is on. The higher the setting the louder the noise becomes. I took the car into the dealership and they checked it saying that it had "leaf's and debris" that had become stuck inside causing the noise. When I left the heater sounded fine. 2 days later the same issue, so I went back and they said that there must have been more leaf's and debris that the mechanic couldn't reach last time, but now it was clean. A few days later the same issue but I have not gone back to the dealership.

The car has approx. 22,000 miles on it, we don't live near many trees (some, but not many) and it is January right now so not many leaf's falling, and I purchased an additional warranty on the car for a few hundred extra and this is not covered. The dealership said that it is not covered in either warranty because it is not a vehicle issue but one caused by "mother nature" so...

Is this a common problem? Is this something that the "average do-it-yourselfer" can do? How do I know if the dealership is giving me the runaround? If I check this myself will it void my warranty, and where can I look to verify this?

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Groaning Like Humming Noise From Front Axle

My front axle is making a groaning like humming noise when the truck is cold and first starting to drive it. It does it when speeds are at 30 mph and under and goes away when putting it in 4WD. It sounds like the hubs but I'm not sure. The dealer hasn't been able to duplicate it because they haven't kept it overnight. I'm just wondering if this happen to the truck, was it fixed and what was the issue. Like I said, I think it may be a vacuum issue to the hubs, but not sure.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2003 - Thump Type Of Vibration Once Hit About 40 Mph

2003 Jetta 1.8t 83,000 miles

Mods - Coilovers and Spacers thats it

Issue - Once I hit about 40 mph I get a thump type of vibration. I originally thought it was bad tire balance, but tire balance usually become more noticeable around 60-65. My issue is mainly present at 40 - 55 and especially noticeable on deceleration. My thoughts are maybe a wheel bearing but most likely a axle on the way out. I heard it is common to blow axles on lowered MK4s. To explain the feeling better once you hit 40 mph there is a vibration that seems like a thumping or like that it matches with the rotation of the tire. The vibration is very noticeable between 40 - 55 then it fades but is still there, but to a lesser extent.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Front End Rumbling / Vibration Around 20 - 25 Mph

Recently purchased my first Toyota, a 2012 Corolla S with 76,000 miles on the ODO. I have a concern about a front end rumbling.

First, the problem...

This "rumble" (the best way I can describe it) starts becoming noticeable around 20-25 mph, depending on the condition of the road I'm on (it could be lower, but I'm in Michigan, all the roads are bad here). This rumble isn't a noise, but more of a low frequency sensation that can be felt in the car and through the steering wheel, and vibrates the rear view mirror. The rumble comes and goes, it isn't constant. Sort of like driving over a rumble strips put on roads before stop signs/intersections, it seems to have an oscillation to it. The rumble intensifies very little with speed. It doesn't seem to oscillate any faster or rumble much harder, it's just there.

Things I've ruled out...

Brakes. When I bought the car, the first thing I noticed was that the front brake rotors were slightly warped, so I installed new rotors and good pads. That didn't get rid of the problem, though I didn't really expect it to.

Tires. The previous owner had seriously over-inflated these tires. Once taken down to their proper pressure, they were noticeably cupped down the middle. These tires were also horribly noisy would not balance, so brand new tires went on (Michelins). The new tires greatly improved the ride, reduced noise, and got rid of a lot of other shakes and vibrations, but the "rumble" remains.

Wheel Bearings. I'm not 100% on this one, but as far as I can tell, it's not the wheel bearings. I've taken the car out on twisty roads and there is no change in the rumble through hard turns, nor any additional vibrations of any kind. Usually bad wheel bearings will exhibit some noise or vibration when being loaded in a turn, but not in this case, so I've ruled them out.

Things I'm not sure about...

CV Joints. I've never had a CV joint go bad or fail on me, so I am unfamiliar with the common signs and symptoms. I have inspected the boots, and they appear to be in good condition and crack free, though that doesn't mean a joint isn't failing. There's no clicking during slow sharp turns, but I think that would only present itself if an outer joint was failing. I'm going to get the car in the air this weekend to do a drain and fill on the tranny (the fluid is getting pretty dark, so I want to get some new in there).

I drove a Ford Focus for the past 10 years and a Ford Contour for 10 years before that, putting over 200,000 miles on both, and never experienced any sort of problem like this.

Camry :: 2008 V6 XLE - Front End Vibration Between 40 And 50 Mph

I wanted to make a quick post to talk about a possible solution to a front end vibration on a 2008 V6 Camry XLE. The vibration seemed to only show up between 40 and 50 mph and was more intense when accelerating harder. I drove it like that a good while thinking that a tire rotation and balance would fix it, but when I got that done the vibration was unaffected and as bad as ever.

After some searching here and in other places online, I thought it might be related to a warped brake rotor or other brake issue. I also found some information about bent axles and issues with CV joints. This thread sounded the most like what I was experiencing. 2008 Camry front end vibration

Yesterday my father in law and I replaced the passenger side axle/CV joints as well as the brakes on all four corners. The vibration seems to have been eliminated. There was a definite difference in the amount of slop of the new CV joints and the originals on the car. There was also evidence that the CV joint closest to the center line of the car had been leaking grease, even though the boots were all intact.

All in all it was a fairly inexpensive and straightforward repair. The new CV/axle unit was around $80 and fit perfectly. The only issue we had was finding a socket that would fit the 12pt 32mm nut that was originally on the car. The replacement came with a 6pt nut that was much easier to deal with. From start to finish, the CV/axle replacement probably took less than 2 hours and didn't require any weird specialty tools or knowledge.

The only odd issue was the brake pads that came off of the car. They hardly looked used at all. Compared to the pads we replaced them with, they couldn't have had more than 10% of their thickness worn away. The odd part of that is that this car has 178,000 miles on it and these were the original brakes from the factory. Pretty wild stuff.

Other than normal wear items like tires and oil changes, this is the first real work the car has ever needed since I bought it new in late 2008. That kind of dependability is why I'm passing this car on to my mother in law and just purchased a used 2012 that is a carbon copy of the 2008.

Camry :: 2003 - Vibration In Front Above 40 MPH

In a 4 cylinder 2003 Camry car is smooth until 40+ mph. Above 40mph there is a vibration in the front that gets worse the more gas you give it. But here is the strange thing, if you release the gas pedal the coast the vibration stops instantly. Example you get to 50mph the front is vibrating bad but only when you foot is depressing the gas pedal. If you release the gas pedal the vibrating stops and it is smooth as glass. I change the bottom engine mounts and the top mount and the problem is still there. What could be the problem?

Camry :: 2009 Vibration At Lower To Mid Speeds / Smooth Out At 60-70

Just bought a 09 Camry, 40k miles, nice car. Drove it very little before I put on the winter tires, different rims also. Notice a terrible vibration at lower (more of a pulse) to mid speeds, it smoothes out at 60-70 though.

I've read HIGH SPEED BALANCING, which I had a garage locally balance it on his machine, I think that is HS balancing? I believe the tire spinds at 50-100 mph??

Camry :: 2009 - Vibration Mainly In Seat / Floor Starts At 65 MPH

I have a vibration in my 2009 Camry. It is felt mainly in the seat/floor, not the steering wheel or dash. I had the tires balanced, didn't fix it. Had them do a road force balance, didn't fix it. Then I was told I had a bent rim, replaced it, didn't fix it. Then I was told it was the tires, replaced all four, didn't fix it! Luckily, the great guys at Discount Tire put my old tires back on and didn't charge me a dime. At the end of my rope...

What could be causing this vibration? No noise detected so I don't think it's the bearing. The vibration is not really obviously until I reach 65 MPH. Then between 70 and 80, the vibration is at it's worst.

Toyota - Tacoma :: 2003 - Constant Shaking Type Of Vibration Between 25 And 35 Mph

My 03 Tacoma TRD is showing her years! The truck has about 215k and has some serious vibrations and noises going on. First off I have a constant shaking type of vibration between 25 and 35 mph, but it is also present in the higher speeds of 55 and above but sometimes it gets drowned out. I work at a ski resort so when Im coming down the mtn using 3rd gear or so to slow down I feel the vibration is the most apparent then. So far I have had 2 shops look at my driveshaft and both concluded there is nothing wrong with the u joints. I had a CV shaft installed because one of the boots was torn so I went ahead and had that replaced.

What the vibration is.....2nd is more of a intervalled whooomping sound almost like a bullfrog-like interval. As I increase speed the intervals get faster but it is a drawn out whooomp whooomp not a fast sound. It actually rattles the change in my ash tray to the bpms of the sound. Also I have a metallic clunking sound happening when I put the truck in gear (manual) or start and stop at slow speeds without using the clutch. I was driving around a parking deck the other day in first gear and it would make the sound whenever i hit the gas AND when I let off the gas. ONE MORE THING, whenever I am starting off under load in any gear, the truck jerks.....it hesitates and lurches but only at low rpms and again in any gear.

Toyota - Highlander :: 2009 - Low Rumble / Vibration From Lower Front End

Just had front Rotors and 4 brake pads replaced. Afterward, I noticed after the car has been in motion for a few minutes, a low rumble sound and vibration occurs randomly and usually at low RPM 1500-2500. Vehicle is a 2009 Highlander 4 cyl at 72000 miles.

Toyota service dealer ran diagnostic check and could not find anything.

Second opinion - mechanic swears it's coming from transmission drum and beginning of trans going.

Third opinion- shocks are starting to go and likely root cause on the sound/sensation.

Fourth opinion, wheel alignment or warped rotor likely the cause.

Performed wheel alignment, slight improvement but rumble is still evident. One replaced rotor has a pronounced groove on exterior. Serviceman suggested we won the lottery and the groove came from a rock from the street hitting the rotor.

Finally, it was determined we need to replace intermediate drive shaft due to knocking sound when turning the steering wheel. Not likely related to the low rumble.
