Camry :: 2008 - Engine Won't Work At Low Speed
Dec 12, 2013
I have an 08 Camry LE, 65k miles four cyl where the engine stops at low speeds. This occurs when approaching a stop or upon acceleration from a stop. No warning, shaking, tach movement engine lights, at all. Engine just dies. It starts up right away. Considered bad gas, so refueled with no difference. Had the car interrogated by two separate Toyota dealers with no resolution. Nothing recorded they don't know what the problem is.

I've got an 02 Camry with the 2.4l 4, it's got a whistling sound from the engine that isn't ground-speed or engine-speed dependent, it's triggered by specific throttle positions...
Because of this, I'm 99.9% sure it's simply air whistling over the throttle plate at certain angles (my old 88 ford station wagon's throttle screamed like a banshee when the cruise was set to 78kph on level ground) but I thought I'd ask in here in case any variable cam timing system or something that can cause similar noises.
The noise has been there as long as I can remember, but it made me wonder the other day when I had my windows down (been trying to limit AC use to save fuel unless it's *really* hot) and heard it reflecting off passing traffic; Wouldn't Toyota have noticed something that loud and done something about it in an engine design?

2008 Passat with TSI and tiptronic transmission. The wife has two instances were the engine speeds up on it's own. She swapped vehicles, so I wasn't able to get into all the details, but it sounds like the engine rev'ed up to 5,000 rpm, but the car didn't speed up. Transmission dropping out of gear or downshifting?

I have a 2008 Camry Hybrid and recently got a "Check VSC System" warning light. A diagnostic resulted in a C0210 error code. The code is for a right rear speed sensor malfunction.
I had a local shop look at it and he replaced the hub accembly including the speed sensor. It didnt work. He and I took a ride and on his diagnostic tool, the speed reading for the right rear wheel was all over the place.
The next day he replaced it thinking that the new sensor was bad. This worked, however only for a day. Now the light had come on again with the same error.

Yesterday I noticed an extremely weird noise coming from the engine bay in my 2004 SE I4 5spd. I've pin pointed it to be a bad alternator diodes. During my testing, I also noticed that my battery light/warning discharge/charge warning light on the cluster/dash does not work.
I know by turning the key into the 'ON' position should illuminate all the dash cluster warning lights that associate with your model (i.e. ABS, TRACT, OIL), but the dash light for the battery light does not turn on. I've verified that even by disconnecting the alternator's cables (the 1 line and the 4 pin connector) and then starting the car, the battery light does not turn on to indicate a discharge situation/bad charging system. I have verified with my other 2004 XLE V6 auto Camry that by leaving the car in the 'ON' position will keep the warning lights on.
See right of the airbag light, no battery light illuminated. Door and seatbelt light does work, I just had door close and caught the blinking seat belt light off when pic was taken.
Reference below is my 2004 Camry XLE V6
I tried checking some fuses in the cabin and engine bay. All the ones I looked checked out okay. Could it be the LED for the battery light is blown/dead?

02 camry 2.4 I4 LE ... before, around 100K miles ... engine light on cause by Catalytic Converter issue, used magic way in this forum, the engine light has been solved successfully.
right now, 175k miles
problem:
1. engine light always keep flashing when driving.
2. low idle speed <500 at any gear except "Parking".
3. gear "D" at stop, start, reverse, accelerate around 50 mph, whole dashboard was vibrated
action made:
1. "dogbone" motor mount was broken and has replace brand new.
2. throttle body cleaning has done.

Since we purchased the car we've been having problems with the transmission or acceleration, when the car is shifting from park to drive engine speed RPM goes up and it is difficult to stop the car from driving. The dealer does not know what to do and the factory support is useless.

I have a 2004 Camry XLE V6 with about 70k with a CEL P0171 that came on yesterday. Looks like that code is for a lean condition. Could it be a bad O2 sensor or is that a different code and what should I look for to fix this code?
Also, I'm not sure if this is related but for the past few months my engine has sounded different. When I first start it up and at low RPM like 2,000 and under the engine sounds like a go kart, not necessarily louder it's just a different lower tone that it never used to have. It has sounded like this for 6 months but the light just came on yesterday.

I have a 2012 Camry SE I4. The problem is my car speed odometer is faster than my radar detector speed. I have 2 detectors and they are both not show the same speed compare to the speed odometer. For example, I am going 70mph, the detector reads like 67-68mph. So the speed odometer is off about 2-3mph. I have OEM size on my car. I know the GPS on my detector is more accurate. So my speed odometer has problem?

I have a 2004 F-150 SCrew Lariat 4X4 with 80K miles. Over the past month or so, every once in awhile there would be a loud metallic "clacking" sound (kind of like sticking a peice of aluminum in a bike's spokes) that would start at higher speeds and would turn into a low pitched whirring gear sound as I slowed down and eventually there would be a thud followed by a sensation of running over a small bump and the noise would be gone. Kind of confusing I know, but that is the best way to describe it. My gut feeling is a wheel bearing or transmission problem....

Friend of mine drives a 2008 Camry with 2GR FE engine, with 65 000 miles. When the engine is cold it runs fine but when is fully warm it idles low, in D or R at around 560-600 rpm. When he shift from P to R or from N to D, the idle goes down, not up like it should. The spark plugs are new, air filter is new. No CEL.

we recently bought a 2008 Camry LE (Automatic), and from the beginning, I've noticed something that is nothing more than an annoyance, but I am starting to not get that impression. The problem is that at a stop, in any drive gear, I have a vibration from the engine. The engine is warmed up and everything. Shift into neutral, it goes away immediately (like I can feel it dissipate as it disengages the gear). No vibrations while driving, only to a stop. Tach reads about 650-700ish and goes up to sometimes 8 in neutral. We also have an OBD-II reader, and no codes are being thrown, no lights on the dash indicating any warnings either.
Now I have just put 2000 miles on it yesterday from when we bought it, and it has a little over 40k on the odometer. My worry is that there is a possible issue with the torque converter or transmission. Any issues with the torque converter that might cause this? Or is there something else that might cause this? If there is an issue that can prove something is faulty, the dealer we bought it from has a warranty that covers almost everything besides oil and filters and whatnot, so hopefully there should be no problem. Like I said, though, it is an annoyance, and I do not want this to escalate to something worse.

Now that summer is here the AC is in use. So the procedure is turn on engine let it run for one minute or a few minutes then turn on the AC. When I turn on the AC almost all the time the engine stall. It does not die but it stall really bad. Is fine after that at stop light and in traffic. Not sure what to make of it.

I own Camry 2008, 4 cyl, 2AZFE engine, 2400cc.
I recently, started facing strange issues,
No matter whether engine is stone cold or oven hot, it does not idle where it used to be (2 weeks ago). The car idles at ~800 RPM and the rpm suddenly drops to ~700 and engine flushes in more fuel to rev it up to 1100 rpm. Will take another 10 - 12 sec to reach ~700 rpm and the same story continues.
This however, sometimes go away, in Neutral. Once I put it in Reverse the problem becomes worse with RPM dropping every other second, as if the current in the coils is failing.
All this fuss continues, even when car is at 30 mph. However beyond 30 mph I feel nothing.
Services done in last 2 weeks:
1. Throttle body clean-- complete removal of all the gunk.
2. PCV valve changed from toyota dealer.
3. Mass airflow sensor cleaned.
4. Spark Plugs changed with new Iridium plugs from toyota dealer.
5. New Ignition Coils.
Nothing solved the idle problem - missing in the car. The mechanic convinced me that Head gasket is blown. He was indeed right as the Head Gasket had crack b/w cyl 2 and cyl 3. It was changed and car was much better. But now I am again facing issues.

I recently purchased a 2008 Camry 4cyl with 50k miles on it, the car runs great however on colder mornings (near or below freezing) there seems to be a ticking sound coming from the engine bay. The noise matches engine rpm, it will disappear once the car has reached operating temps.
Ive poked around the forum a bit for "camry ticking or clicking when cold" and have found a few threads saying their toyota dealership told them it was normal and that even new camrys do the same noise when cold.

When the ignition is on (no motor running) there is a buzzing sound from the front of the engine. I have used the screwdriver in the ear to try to track the noise. It sounds like the alternator exhaust manifold area.

2 weeks ago my Camry 2008 failed the oil consumption test, so toyota fixed the engine. Few days after I got my car, I turned on the A/C but I was surprised that the compressor wont work. Totally dead.
I took the car to toyota and they check it out, they said they dont know whats wrong with compressor and I need to replace it for 1200$!!! IT WAS NOT A FREON PROBLEM, They claim that electricity is being delivered to the compressor but its just not working.
Is it possible that they messed up my compressor while fixing the engine? Also, I really don't want to fix it for that much, any thoughts where to fix it cheaper?

My 2008 Camry V6 has a noise that happens when I first start driving forward right after the transmission shifts from 1st to 2nd gear, from inside the car it sounds like it's coming from the engine compartment on the driver side. I've figured out that the noise happens only when the engine is completely cooled down and it happens only once until the engine is cooled down again. It doesn't do it when in reverse, however if I reverse first it will still occur when I start pulling forward and the transmission shifts.
I brought my car into the Toyota dealer and they say that they don't hear anything wrong. They ended up replacing an axle because a boot was torn so I was hoping that it would end up fixing the issue but it made the noise right away when I picked up the car.
I have a video of the noise happening... turn your sound up and you'll hear it right at the 0:14 second mark of the video: [URL] ....
I have literally 89 miles left on my extended warranty so I really need to get this fixed. Back to Toyota...

I have an 08 camry v6 with 31K. I noticed when I got off the highway after driving for about a 1/2 hour the engine had a loud vibrating/ticking noise when I stepped on the gas. This morning when the car was cold and I drove it locally it was fine, i also checked the oil and it's clean and full. Not sure what's going on. Also this only happened after I had the whole car painted not sure if it's related since I dont know if they take parts off to paint a whole car.
