Camry :: 2007 XLE - JBL System Bass Distortion
Jul 24, 2011
Our Camry has the premium JBL system with the amp under the passenger seat. Any song regardless of source that has a lot of bass drives both rear speakers into distortion. Treble and mid and bass settings are on zero. Even when bass is set on -2 or -3, I still hear significant distortion especially when playing something like Queen, Enya, or with a lot of bass. Problem is there whether Aux input, CD or FM. Someone suggested adjusting gain on amp. How do I do that? And isn't it a stretch to think that would make any difference? Is the amp the most likely source of the problem?

We continue to be delighted with our 2008 V8, it's like having wings. I drove to England across France from Switzerland for 100 kms recently, had a wonderful day there and back. But when I play our iPod with WAV files through the sound system there is some distortion on loud notes, even at low volume. Strangely, when a young friend attached his iPod and then replaced mine, it did not distort. There is no distortion when using the CD changer or the Hard disk drive, but I prefer the large choice and full files on the iPod, given the great quality of the standard sound system. Now the sound distorts again when playing music on the iPod, and even if i detach the cable and replace it any number of times there is little difference.

When there is any degree of bass in my sound system (JBL), the driver's side door vibrates or rattles. If I push against the handle with the controls on it very hard, I can dampen the sound to where it's (almost) nonexistent.

The speakers themselves are not rattling, but the door panels themselves are. What kind of cheap material did Toyota use on the Gen 5s to cause door 6x9s rattles on the panel when listening to bass heavy music

I have a 2007 Camry Hybrid and got the front and rear rotors and pads changed last Friday at a shop. On Monday morning, I drove the car to a Pharmacy drive-thru and briefly stopped it. It would not start a few minutes later and showed - Check VSC System Error. Push it out of the way and then I tried re-starting, and it did. Since then it has happened a couple of times again. A little push and then it restarts. Otherwise, all error lights come on when attempting to start the car. I check the brake fluid- it is at Max or slightly higher. The driving seems ok when it is driving. What could be happening? Is there a reset button or do I have to take it to the dealer to get it scanned? I disconnected the 'positive' terminal of the battery (the negative was hard to reach) but that did not seem to change things.

Recently bought a 07 Camry Se with the JBL system in it. The stereo had no sound and after checking I found that the 25amp fuse under the hood was missing. I replaced it and as soon as the amp received power it started buzzing in all speakers. I was able to stop the buzzing by unplugging the connector on left of the blue connector in the middle of the amp. That connector seem to control the rear deck speakers. I now have clear sound from the front speakers but nothing from the back. So question I have is does this sound like more of an Amp problem or speaker problem?
One more note I also found that the rear trunk torsion bar clip was broken, from what I have read these bars can cause a short on the rear speaker if they touch the speaker would that cause a speaker or amp to blow?

I have a 2007 Camry V6 with 49K miles. Yesterday the Check VSC System lite came on along with the check engine light and picture of a car with tracks behind it. The car runs perfect. The engine is smooth, no misses, and no other signs of any kind of problems. My wife drives this car about 6K miles a year. Took it to AutoZone this morning to check the codes. The first thing that came up was Fuel Injector Pressure Regulator. Then codes P0301,02,03,04,05,06 each saying Misfire Detected. Also code P0352 Ignition Coil B Primary / Secondary Circuit.

I recently started getting distortions on my MFD....at least that what I believe it's call. Sometimes is goes totally out and sometimes it gets really pixelated. I've attached a couple images to show some of the distortions that is happening. It doesn't happen all the time.
Is this a common problem?, hard/time consuming fix? I plan on taking it into the dealer very soon. It a new Passat Wagon, bought back in Nov...so I'm assuming this will be covered under warranty??

I have Lexus 460 LS L 2007. Few months back changed the battery and every thing was ok. 2 months after I had problem in the sound system ( radio and dvd ) which was on and off. One month back suddenly I had all the warning lights in the dashboard on with massage saying that that the brake system is malfunctioning and check the ABS system.
I took the car to LEXUS dealer and they reprogrammed the computer abd then every thing went back to normal and the problem fixed. Two days after I had these warning lights again with the same massege. I do not know what to do ??

I am having a terrible time with my dealer regarding intermittent speaker distortion.

A few times over the past several months, I've found a weird distortion ocurring in the screen on the infotainment display (not the small screen on the dashboard). It looks like an old CRT / TV screen that has gotten un-aligned / un-synched - a rolling and diagonally stretched image. It goes away if I stop, shutdown, remove the key and restart the car.
I'm thinking that it is being caused by interference generated by my Blackberry handheld, which I have a tendency to stick in the driver's side cup holder - angled toward me, so the antenna ends up pointing toward the infortainment unit screen, but the distortion doesn't disappear simply by moving the Blackberry.

I've noticed a slight distortion on my driver's side mirror. If I move my head left to right and back, I can see some 'wobble' across the face. I wonder if the cold has anything to do with it?

2000 Passat windshield was replaced yesterday by an independent service station after being hit by a rock on Rt 22 in New Jersey. The new windshield is made by XYG (Made in China). The lower half of the windshield has incredible distortion -- looks like a fun house mirror. I've never had any kind of problem like this with any vehicle I've ever owned. I will, of course, call the repair shop tomorrow morning.

I've had my GTI for 2 months but just tonight I noticed some slight distortion in the passenger side of my windshield glass. It almost makes things like slightly "wavy". It would be hard to notice unless I pointed it out, but it's there. Now here's the funny thing, it can only be seen from the driver's side of the car. I sat in the passenger side and it looked totally fine. I also noticed that only the windshield is made by Vitro based in Mexico, the rest of the glass has Sekurit stamps, based (made?) in Germany. I'm wondering if this is considered normal or at least acceptable.

The speakers on my prius sound completely horrible with lots of distortion when its on full blast and when the car is in ready mode. But when I have it on full blast without the car in ready mode it sounds crystal clear. What it could be?

I recently purchased a new 2013 subaru crosstrek, and noticed an optical variance in the windshield that is giving me migraines ( it feels like my eye is being pulled out through my right ear). I took it back to the dealer and (after several visits trying to convince them it existed) they replaced the windshield. With one that's worse, and now I'm stuck. I can't drive the car in sunlight, only in the dark or on days its precipitating. My husband says he sees it, too. But the Dealer wants nothing to do with me. We tried to find an aftermarket windshield, but apparently, the car is too new.

Just upgraded from an 07 NF to a 2015 LF (Canadian GL with the 5" stereo) and I'm having an issue with bluetooth audio streaming. Music and audio in general sounds distorted/staticky especially in the higher frequency (kind of sound like a tweeter is blown but audio is fine using other sources). I have tried 3 different devices and same issue with all. Adjusting the eq and volumes on the phones/head unit does not work. Never had this issue in the 07 which had a JVC Bluetooth head unit. My brother also just got the same car and is having the exact same issue. Is this a common problem and if so is there a fix?

I have the bass turned up to the max but there just isn't any. I'm guessing it's broken. What to do to try and diagnose the problem? I don't know much about audio systems unfortunately.

Confirmed it today. Not hearing things. A very low bass like hum when the car goes over 80. Wind noise of transmission binding. What the transmission binding sounds like? Would it happen if the car was just going straight ahead with no turns?

Let me define cold weather. I'm talking 0˚F and into the negatives, not "I live in Georgia and it was 40˚F last night".
If the car sits outside, let's say overnight during negative temps, when I start the car the speakers don't put out any bass whatsoever. Eventually, as the interior warms up you can hear the speakers come alive and they begin to work as advertised. Is this normal? I guess I don't mind it if it is normal, I've just never experienced this in any other car I've driven. Is this some sort of self-protecting function for the speakers or car's electrical system? Just the speaker material tightening up in the cold?
