Camry :: 2007 XLE - Blue Smoke / No Warning At All
Nov 12, 2010
2007 Camry XLE 3.5 ... My baby is puking out blue smoke. This happened over night no warning at all. Its real bad in the morning and also while idling at a red light. There is not much info on the newer Gens with high miles. The only thing I ever had to replace where brakes, tires oil changes and the Battery. I have 145k mostly highway miles. I have read here and there could be emission stuffs? Never had any codes either. I'm hoping its not the valve seals.

I have a 07 camry 4 cylinder with about 80k miles on it. Now on cold starts i started to notice that it will have a puff of blue smoke out the exhaust then it will go away right away and when i drive it there is no smoke and the car drives fine.
I did some research and Im thinking that it is the valve seals. Now my question has tried to sea foam it and then run thicker oil to see it it will stop the smoking? or will i just have to replace the valve seals?

02 camry, 128 K miles, 4cyl.
Since I started using castrol titanium full syn oil, I have noticed increased blue smoke on initial start up, usually after overnight.
Time for another oil change, what OIL to go with? I was thinking back to Valvoline maxlife dino oil.

In have a 2005 Toyota Camry with 120,000 miles. Upon starting the engine there is a puff of blue smoke with smell of oil burning. There does not appear to be any smoke during the running of the car. What the root cause could be? Rings? Head gasket?

I have a 2003 Solara 4cyl, some months ago it started to blow light blue smoke on start, but would go away after a few minutes. My mech, could be the valve guides. Then about a month ago it blew a head gasket, didn't overheat though, as I stopped, added water and went to the mech. So new gasket and a valve job, but it still blows smoke on start. THe mech said going to 20w50 might work, it didn't. I check the oil last week, thought it should a couple of qts low, so I added oil, but the blue smoke is still there, and I started to smell oil burning. I thought maybe I added too much, so I add another oil change w/20w50....still have the oil burning, blue smoke on start... The mech thinks might be leaking in the rings...ugh....probably could/ve bought a new engine by now...... The check engine light had been intermittent, the mech said it the catalytic converter....it finally went off by itself four days ago....maybe it burned out..........

I have a 2002 2.4L Camry with 120K miles. I plan to keep it for another 10 years so want to get it in better shape. All I've done so far is air filters and changing the oil. I did let oil changes go way too long a few times then at 70K miles started emitting blue smoke only at startup after sitting overnight. It looks like valve stem seals so the engine uses oil now but it's tolerable and I really need to avoid spending big bucks unless there's a breakdown.
I've read about a procedure to replace the valve stem seals without removing the head using compressed air, but am a bit scared to try it for fear I will get in over my head.
I'm planning on getting up to date on all recommended inspections, changing spark plugs, coolant, air filter and cabin filter and plan on changing the oil from conventional over to 10w30 synthetic w/ subsequent 5,000 mile intervals from now on. I'm in a better financial situation now so can afford parts but want to try to do all labor myself unless a mechanic is necessary for something extremely important or critical.

Over the last two weeks I've had a couple instances where I'm moving around 30mph and I gently accelerate, you can tell that the engine/transmission is about to downshift and while pushing the accelerator just slightly you can feel the car shutter (not terribly noticeable) not accelerate as well as a noticeable amount of blue smoke will come out of the exhaust. It's happened twice now. After a few seconds the car will return to normal and the smoke stops.
Camry is a 2012 SE, 4cylinder, 31,000 miles. It's had the torque converter software update. No lights on the dash. I've also stopped after this happened and the engine sounded normal, oil level is normal.

I have an 07 Sonata V6 Limited with 65K miles. Recently I've noticed at startup, the valves pinging and blue smoke coming from the tail pipes. Settles down after a few seconds and doesn't do it again if you shut it down and re-start. Last time I experienced this was on a Silverado with well over 100K miles. Back then it was valve seals. Could this be possible with 65K? I noticed in the maintenance log that they request having valve clearance inspected at 60K. Could this be causing my condition? I'm the second owner, so the 100K warranty is out of the question.

I am writing about a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban and for the last few months, have noticed that the car is losing oil. I have to put in a quart of oil about every 3 weeks. I have brought it in to the mechanics and asked them to look for a leak and they can't find anything. They have changed the oil, replaced the evap hose, but the car is still losing oil. Just did a lot of driving this last weekend and the oil went all the way down, to the point of when I started it this morning, I got a huge amount of blue smoke out the back. When I took off the cap to add oil, I noticed this mustard yellow, foamy stuff on the lid. Never saw that before.

2007 F350 CCLB, Still stock, 130k miles. SCT Tuner for towing and MPG (canned tunes).. I am new to the diesel world so just making sure.
Since we started getting colder mornings I have noticed a small amount of white, or blueish white smoke on start up for about 5 secs or so. Last week in Montana I did notice the light smoke for about 5 secs then looked like vapor for about 1 min (was about 30 degrees out)
Only during the first start of the day on cooler mornings (45 and under) have i noticed it, nothing while driving, no knocks or hard start, no codes. I am about due for an oil change (Delo in there right now but switching to syn), and do have the canned tow tune from SCT on there. Anything I should have checked or should check, I am decent with wrench.
Also I have noticed the blue sleeve that goes to the front of turbo coming from the front of the truck (maybe the cooler?), kinda looks like rubber gets a slightly dirty coating to it, not sure if normal or related.

Most had said theirs did it intermittently and got better after awhile... Mine does it every single time. I start the car. Usually after sitting for the day at work or overnight at home... Not sure which direction to go with this (or rather my hubby) to go. What would be checked first? turbo, fuel injectors, and valve seals...

Ok I thought I remembered reading about this in the past. This morning I detailed the V8 T (19K miles) and started it to back it out of the garage. Got a big puff of blue/white smoke out the back. I searched but found nothing. Should I finally run to the nearest BMW dealer for an X5?

I've got a 2001 passat tdi 130, awx engine, its got 213k on the clock and has been a great car for the last couple of years, over the last couple of weeks it has been down on power and is really smokey, blue smoke, it seems to be worse if its left idling for a while then give it a good rev up and it lets out a big cloud of blue smoke, it doesn't clear and is smokey all the time, I've not noticed any drop in oil level either which makes me think it may be injectors but it still runs ok with no diesel knock and starts first time, I don't want to be wasting any money on buying a turbo or injectors if it doesn't need it.

I may have an issue with my engine. My car is beginning to blow some blue smoke when I romp on it. It doesn't break up at all, there isn't any loss of power. It's just blowing some smoke and I noticed a light oil build up on my exhaust tips. I don't think I need to be hugely concerned yet, but I am bringing it to the dealership tomorrow just to make sure.

As the title states I have lots of blue smoke out the exhaust and the smell of burnt oil. Checking other posts it looks like it could be a diverter valve, a pcv valve or the Turbo. I checked on line and autozone and parts America say these are not required for my car. I checked my Hanes manual (yes, that's all I have) and they don't have the DV or the pcv listed.

My car burns oil on startup. Mostly when cold. However the attached vid was taken today when the car was warm. Does not burn oil any other time. It is definitely not water vapor - smoke is blue.
Dealership replaced pcv after inspecting the turbo and all was good. Now they aren't sure what it could be.
My research tells me valve guides/seals leaking oil into the head. I don't show any oil loss on the stick so it's not leaking a lot of oil, just enough to create a little big of smoke.
Question - is this a big deal? Do you occasionally see smoke on startup? I'm trying to figure out if I should press the issue with vw or just live with it - I really don't care about the smoke but don't want long term reliability or resale issues.

I own a 2001 Passat, engine code AVF, the problem is that I have blue smoke on the exhaust, lots of it. The turbocharger has been tested and has almost no play in the rotor, but I have tried to blow some air into the oil intake and the air flow is very low, I have to blow quite hard so some air can go through. I also get allot of smoke and oil from the Crankcase Ventilation Filter and also I could see some oil around the dipstick pipe.
Now I don't know if there is a turbocharger oil return pipe problem (maybe it is clogged), the turbocharger itself or maybe some other problem.

My cars runs great no smoke unless i let it idle for a while then go there might be a little white smoke or blue smoke just depends, doesn't do it all the time just random, my oil is perfect no water in it so I don't think headgasket, its running a precision 50 trim bigger injectors and full 3 inch exhaust.

I was watching my wife drive off yesterday, and noticed a puff of blue smoke (oil) from the exhaust when she started moving.
This is a 2000 V6 passat. The car has a valve clatter when you first put a load on the engine that goes away quickly. I've read that this is likely the cam tensioners leaking down - is that right.

I have a 2010 lancer evolution, intermittently under light to no acceleration the car emits a large cloud of blue-grey smoke from the exhaust accompanied by noticeable oil consumption. This only happens when in 5th or 6th gear or when it changes from 5th to 6th. It only seems to happen when accelerating onto the highway or when going up an incline in a high gear. It only ever lets out smoke when under 2500rpm, never above 2500 and only for a second or two. if I downshift to 5th while this is happening, it stops. I'm at a loss as to why its burning oil.

Car: 88 festiva with 227K miles For those unaware this is a Mazda B3 SOHC carburated 4cyl
Symptom: Misfire and Blue (oil) smoke.
When: Only happens at first startup after car has sit for a while (at least 8 hours). It starts ok, runs fine on all cylinders, for about 15 - 30 seconds. Then it starts to misfire. If I try to drive away I get a cloud of blue oil smoke. It then clears up and runs fine. No oil smoke, no misfire. If I just let it idle, it will misfire for a long time, and then blows even more smoke when I finally hit the throttle. It really only seems to clear up if I rev the engine a bit.
I have adjusted the valve lash, changed the oil and filter, replaced the plugs with NGK copper. Dist cap looks newish as well as wires ( but I have not changed them)
When I pulled the plugs, they looked fine for the most part. no fouling, color looked normal, they weren't worn horribly.
I initially thought that it was a carb issue, but the smoke has gotten worse, so I am thinking maybe something is sticking? I get some clatter at startup sometimes (not valve noise) but it goes away as soon as the oil gets pumping (like 1 second) and it is pretty inconsistent when that happens. I am still getting over 30mpg in mostly city driving, and power levels seem ok most of the time
I am leaning away from valve seals, because in my experience they dont cause misfires and for the first 30 seconds there is no smoke at all, but am I in the wrong here?
