Today I am getting a "squeaking rubber" sound coming inside the car from the steering wheel when its turned. Not from under the hood! We had a sudden temperature drop over night but this has never happened before. Car has over 180K on it. Power steering fluid is between the lines. I don't see any plastic that is rubbing.
View 2 RepliesSometimes when driving I hear a light squeaking sound coming from the front wheel area. When i drive slow, it is a slow squeak, and when I go fast, the squeaking speeds up. I am thinking about spraying some wd-40 or silicone lubricant behind the wheel to lubricate the area to see if it solves my problem. I will be sure not to get any near the brake area but my question is, does spray wd-40 under the chassis or around the control arm area to stop those annoying squeaking sounds?
View 6 RepliesI have an 07 GS 350. When I'm driving on any winding road, every time I turn the wheel to the right, I hear a kind of scraping sound for as long as the steering wheel is turned even a little. It's only when I turn the wheel to the right and only and only the front left tire.
I thought it might be the disc brake dust shield, but I pulled the tire off, took a look, and can see that it isn't touching the rotor anywhere. There really isn't much else that I can think of that it could be, so I'm basically stumped. The brake pads are nice and thick and everything looks really good.
My steering wheel's rubber is peeling off now (the area under the telephone buttons). Is there something i can do to fix it? I am just thinking about color matching that with some gray duck tape as a temporary solution.

It sounds like that cartoon "rubber being stretched" sound or maybe a little like plucking an overly tightened string. It doesn't affect driveability but I've been dealing with this for quite some time and I'm trying to sell it now... it's a major buyer turn off.
View 7 RepliesI have a 2000 Camry, 4 cyl. It was in an accident on the front right before I bought it. I took it to Sears for alignment and 4-6 adjustments were made to pull it to within spec. One evidently is not correctable (the caster). After I bought it and after the alignment, I replaced the sway bar link, as the upper ball and socket was very loose. The problem I am trying to solve now is when I turn at low speed, I get a sound like a plucking of a large rubber band. (BUNG) I jacked and blocked up both sides and turning both ways all the way made no sound or play, and nothing is touching like the wheel well plastic or other parts. Then, I lowered the front right (where the accident was) to put weight on it, and it no noise when turning. When I lowered the left side also, there was still no sound. No sounds or shaking at 50-60 mph.
View 5 RepliesI bought my R from Carmax about a month ago with about 26K miles on it (and, needless to say, I am in love with the car). However, after a week or two of driving, I noticed a squeaking/rattling sound coming from the front driver's side wheel well area when I let off the brake. It is loud enough for me to hear it with the windows rolled up, and it continues for several seconds at least after I let off the brake (maybe longer, but I can't hear it over the exhaust).
The rattle sort of sounds like it may have something to do with the turning of the wheel, so I thought it might be related to caliper vibration or something (not that I really have any clue. At all.). Anyhow, I took my R to Carmax to have them look at it because it is still under the 30 day warranty, and I figured I would start there before taking it to the local VW dealership. I got a call a few minutes ago from the service guy, who said the following:
"Our technician took a look at your car and determined that the sound is coming from your suspension. However, it is a normal sound and there isn't anything that needs to be fixed."
I argued with him and said that the noise may or may not be immediately harmful to my car, but it is certainly not NORMAL, and something needs to be tightened, lubricated, or replaced. He said he would have his tech look at it again.
Is there a way to grease the steering shaft or whatever is making the squeaking sound inside the cab when I turn the wheel? It's a 2001 F250 CCSB Lariat and it drives me crazy hearing sounds I shouldn't be hearing. This is certainly not coming from outside the cab but rather in the steering shaft within the cab somewhere. How I can lube that up?
View 1 RepliesMy car (2014 IS250 F-Sport) has been making this weird noise thats hard to put into words every time the steering wheel is being turned to just before its maximum rotation. It sounds kinda like an old car driving over the speed bump. The noise only comes on in the first turn and then its gone. The car has to be moving at a very low speed too, I only hear it turning into my driveway (no bumps what so ever). Has absolutely no effect on the driving characteristic of the vehicle. What or where it might coming from?
View 8 RepliesMy 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 with diesel engine, intermittently makes a noise similar to the sound knobby tires make. It also sounds similar to the exhaust brake, but louder. A vibration accompanies the noise. Two mechanics (one a tire expert, one at a Dodge dealer) test drove it and examined it on their racks and said it's the right front wheel bearing/hub assembly. I replaced that, despite not hearing or feeling any problem when rotating the wheel by hand. I've examined all tires and turned the wheels by hand while listening for odd sounds or roughness, and examined all drive shafts and joints which have not apparent problem, to no avail. When this issue first started, I heard a sound like rubber squeaking while driving at very low speed, especially in reverse.
View 1 RepliesI've a loud squeaking sound coming from the front of the engine on cold start. This only happens when I start the engine after overnight parking . There are no squeaks when the engine is warmed up or when I start up with a warm engine.

What could be the probable cause of the this and how do I rectify it?
For the past month or so I have had something strange going on. When driving between 65 to 70 on the highway, I've turned my steering wheel slightly to the right and if there is a cross wind or head wind there is a vibrating sound. And it does get loud. I don't really feel it in the steering wheel. Only when there is a wind. I haven't done anything new to the truck since winter.
View 4 RepliesI have a UK 2006 Mk2 CDX+ which I was driving last night - seemed ok, got to our driveway, turned the steering wheel fully left so I could manoeuvre the car into the driveway when I heard a loud "clunk" noise.
I thought I ran over a bottle or something so carried on reversing, when I got out I noticed the car was parked diagonally! Thought this is strange, I don't park like that and tried again, a bit better but still not parallel! I then noticed the steering wheel was hard to turn, a grinding like noise is heard when I turned so I decided I would need to take into the local in the morning.
Started the car today and drove out and got immediate sensation that steering was not connected to the wheels, the SW was off centre by miles and turning left/right was very sluggish. Lucky the garage is only down the road (but it's not Hyundai specialist) from me as I would not risk driving it down main roads in this condition. Guy at garage asked me to fully turn the SW left to right and we can see that the front of the car actually moved during the process. He is going to take it up on the lift to look underneath.
I tried to use my horn on my 2006 Camry LE this morning and nothing happened, so I tried a few more times then noticed smoke coming from the steering wheel.
View 1 RepliesA few months back my 2007 Camry started having this vibration along with a humming/buzzing sound between the speeds of 40-70mph. I seriously thought it was an axle/hub/bearing issue because of the buzzing sound. But at the same time the brakes were wearing down and noticed the shaking of the rotors when braking so kind of figured it may just be that. Explained to the Toyota people and they said most likely new brake service will fix the issue and not an axle/bearing issue. So went ahead and had the brake service done for both front & rear but the vibration & sound is still there. Can't be the tires because just got new ones just last year. Balanced & alignment done and still doesn't solve the problem. Found a TSB, T-SB-0106-08: Steering Wheel Flutter/Body Vibration at highway speeds (approximately 65-75mph).
View 3 Repliesthere's a noise that sounds like a seagull coming from under the hood near the steering wheel. Turns out it's the vacuum brake accumulator & there was a recall on this. Unfortunately I had the part replaced back in 02, so Montero won't fix it a second time. I only use the vehicle on the weekends & didn't see any reduction in the brake performance so I put the repair off. That was over a year ago. How important is it to fix this? Other than the really odd noise there doesn't seem to be an issue.... I'm just trying to decide the future of my truck since the transfer case is gone & I can't use 4wd or AWD and more. That's been broken & flashing about a year too.. On top of that the AC is broken & now there's a light tapping noise whenever the car is in gear, but not in park.. I really love my truck but am losing hope. Everyone says it's not worth fixing. 140,000 miles.

View 13 RepliesI have a 97 F150 that I just got a few weeks ago. I was driving home Wed. night when the 4x4 low range light would come on and off intermittently I had it in 2h the whole time. I went online and couldn't really find anything on it. So I get up to go to work on Thursday and the truck wouldn't even turn over. The battery was dead. I have put in a new one but now after turning the truck off I hear a clicking sound coming from the steering wheel. What this may be?
View 3 RepliesSo my 09' Camry now has 130K KMs on it and for the last few months I've had an issue where when I turn the steering wheel (at rest and while moving) there is a clunking sound and feel in the steering wheel at various spots in the steering wheel rotation.
I'm worried the u-joints (if it uses them) in the steering column are worn out and might need replacing/lubricating but I'm not sure how to address the issue without an expensive Out of warranty visit to the dealer.
See photo. My 2007 ES350 has a plastic coating over the radio controls that is peeling off. Looks ghetto. Is there a product I could use to replace this or at least make it look less ghetto?
View 14 RepliesTook delivery of my 2015 GTI a few weeks ago. Overall the car is great, but I have a feeling the tires that came with it just plain suck. They are Pirelli P7 Cinturato A/S. According to Tire Rack, these are grand touring tires?! Not exactly what I'd expect to be put on a GTI. Anyway, I've noticed that at almost exactly between 60mph-70mph there is a "whine" sound coming from them, also just the slightest vibration in the steering wheel. At every other speed they are relatively quiet and the wheel is absolutely dead solid, no vibration. Could these tires just be of relatively poor quality? Should I have them put on a balancing machine to see if everything checks out? I'm assuming these were balanced on a Road Force machine at the factory since that is the OEM for VW/Audi, but I'm not 100% sure obviously.
