Camry :: 2006 2.4L Car Sometimes Idle Very Low

Feb 8, 2016

When I make a complete stop and still in DRIVE my car sometimes idle very low; below 500rpm (engine starts to shake a little like it is going to turn off). And sometimes it does that for like 10 seconds and then picks back up to 800rpm. What is the cause?

Camry :: 2006 - Engine Vibrating At Idle

130k miles, 4 cyl camry LE 2006, im very good about my oil changes

The car gets a good amount of vibration while it idles, you can sort of notice it with the dashboard vibrating, I've known it was happening but didn't seem terrible so I hadn't put much thought into it. It also goes away when i get moving, but will sometimes get worse again at stop lights.

Today I was jumping a friends car (2009 mercury mariner), having both hoods open at the same time made the amount my engine was vibrating pretty noticeable compared to hers. Totally different cars, i know, but still seemed like it was a bit much.

My question is what areas should i be looking into as the possible culprit? What could possibly cause an engine to have more vibration as it ages? Just to clarify, it doesn't seem super intense, like about to tear itself off the frame, but just enough so that you would notice it.

Camry :: 2006 (5th Gen) Rough Idle At 600 RPMs When In Park

As of late, my 06 Camry (I4) idle's real rough @ 600 rpms when in park. It stays the same in drive with the A/C on. However, when I switch the A/C off, for about 2 secs, the idle will be smooth before dropping down in rpms. Some folks have said this is normal, but I've had this happened to my car before. I've got 135K on it so I'm guess a tune up is in order.

I'm new in the game of working on my car myself since a past issue with the dealer on my '06. So if all is needed is a tune up, I can do that myself with the parts of my choice.

Camry :: 2006 - High Idle At Start Up During Winter Times

Camry 06 4cyl with 100k automatic. I have replaced spark plugs, cleaned the MAF with Maf cleaner, Changed air filter, changed cabin air filter, transmission flush, engine oil to synthetic 5w30, used seafoam in the fuel tank and the intake per sticky.

We have owned the car for 3 weeks now. We live in Orlando, FL so the lowest temp we get in the mornings is 57 some days during winter times. The car never idled high at 2000 rpms since we owned it. I never had a car that idles that high on cold start up but my other vehicles idle at 1200 rpms on cold start up.

It idles at 2k for like 3 mins and then drops back to 800 rpm which is seems like normal operation of cold start up. I have read mixed reviews about been normal or not. Most of this reviews are in really cold temps not like the ones here in FL.

So does this appear to be normal? My wife called me today telling me the car did this. She said it was that cold this morning. I haven't got a chance to read the manual and see if there is a note there since she is at work.

I just need to know if it is normal even in hotter temps like FL. The car drives fine and no check engine light. Stock engine as far as we know.

Camry :: 2006 SE Engine Smooth But Dash Rattle At Idle

I recently purchased a 2006 SE with 4 cylinder/at combo. Engine is silky smooth, but I have a rattle that I think is coming from behind the driver instruments or against the fire wall where the brake m/c is. This only occurs when the engine is in gear, mainly with a/c on, & the idle drops to 600-700 rpm range. Like if I am sitting at a red light for more than a minute or two. If I put the tranny in neutral, cut the a/c off, or step on gas to raise the idle speed the rattle goes away. It's definitely rpm dependent.

It's not the a/c, because I have been able to repeat the issue with the a/c off. I did notice that on the back of the air filter box, there are several plastic components attached but what they do. Is there anyway to increase idle speed?

Camry :: New Alternator - Rough Idle When AC Is On

Just installed a new alternator today, and the motor (4 cyl.) idles rough when the AC is on. The battery was disconnected during the installation, but nothing else was touched. Is this caused by the new alternator itself, or because the battery was disconnected for a while? Should I set the idle speed a little higher or what?

Camry :: 2003 - Car Low / Rough Idle When AC Is On

Title tells the story....also it seems that sometimes it does this when the brake pedal is depressed -- since it is a manual 5-speed, tho., often the brake pedal is not depressed at stoplights, etc. So, 2003, four-cyl., as I said, manual trans.

It's my husband's. He has been gone. I am driving the car for him while he is away. The car seems to have had this rough/low idle (according to the tach) with the A/C on for at least a couple of years. Idles O.K. if the A/C is not on.

He returns tonight. And, I have to pick him up at the Portland, Oregon Airport.

Camry :: Low Idle RPM On 2003 Toyota

I have a 2003 4-cyl. Was running OK til starter died. Changed the starter, now it starts fine, but has idle problems similar to a dirty IAC. Sounds a lot like this thread: Low idle rpm problem on 2003 Toyota Camry: How I solved it

Haven't tried that fix yet. I was wondering if there anything else I could consider, due maybe to disconnecting the battery causing computer problems or something like that?

So I decided to run it for a while, thinking maybe the computer needed some more data. Idling about 100, but driving OK (around the block) but definitely not right.

Then the check engine light came on; I need to pull the code of course but need to borrow a code reader.....

Camry :: Idle Too Low When Engine Started

I had to remove the battery to get at the DS parking bulb. When I reconnected the battery and started the engine the idle did not go way up like normal, but I thought it was because I had removed power from the computer and it needed to relearn my driving. Well the idle was so low it was difficult keeping it running and it did not improve.

Camry :: 2002 XLE V6 Rough Idle For A Second

So my 2002 Camry XLE V6 with ~132,000 miles has a little bit of a rough idle. It sounds like it's "breathing". It'll be rough for a second, smooth for a second, rough, smooth. It's not super rough where my steering wheel is really vibrating, but definitely noticeable. The RPM hovers around 500-600 and doesn't really fluctuate. On Sunday, the following was done with a friend:

- All 6 spark plugs with DENSO SK20R11

- OEM PCV valve, grommet, and hose

- OEM Air Filter

- OEM Cabin Filter

- OEM plenum gasket

We didn't do the head gasket and manifold gasket to save time and there was absolutely no oil on the coils or plugs. The car was very well maintained by the previous owner and by me since I got it at ~102,000 miles.

The car seems to surge sometimes. I'm not sure if that is the right word. Say if I turn left up a hill and hit the gas, the engine RPM will kind of surge up and then it'll shift. It's audibly noticeable. It's not smooth, but maybe it's just because it's a hill, I'm not sure

The idle seems about the same since before we did the plugs, which I thought doing the plugs would work. It almost seems like it might be worse and the MPG might be worse, but that may just be in my head.

Could it be the front motor mount? Maybe we should have cleaned the throttle body while we had it open.

Camry 2012+ :: Vibrate At Idle With AC On?

Wifey has been complaining the past 2 days that her car has been running a bit funny. First warm-ish day here...sitting in traffic and turned on the AC. At a complete stop, in Drive, the car is vibrating the floorboard quite noticeably. Somewhat less noticeably in park/neutral. Otherwise, it seems to behave just fine...power is fine, motor sounds like it always does.

The car was about 3/4 of the way through the tank of gas (87 oct), and wasn't running like this a few days ago when I spent a lot of time behind the wheel. I went and filled the tank, thinking maybe it was bad gas, with a fresh tank of 89. Nope...as soon as you hit the AC button...it starts vibrating.

So the question from all this...does YOUR I4 Camry shake a little bit with the AC on? A little bit of vibration from a 4-cyl doesn't surprise me, but I sure don't seem to recall it last year.

Camry :: Engine Won't Idle, Need To Keep Revving It

I am due for an inspection for a 2004 Camry (4 cyl.).

I had the engine light come on with a P2231 or P2238 code on my OBDII tool. Car was running fine, no weirdness whatsoever. But I went ahead and changed the front sensor (Bank 1 Sensor 1). As soon as I changed the code went away and it is not coming out anymore, nor are other codes.

However, the engine doesn't idle after 5 minutes running. I have to keep revving it up at the light to keep going. I shut it off and it turns on no problem. But then it doesn't idle. What a pain, I used the Bosch O2 sensor bought from AutoZone.

Camry :: 2002 - Stalling When Idle

My car (2002 Camry, 65K Miles) stalls when I take foot off the gas pedal, this starter four days ago then it worked fine couple days later and the problem is back again. I did some research and cleaned throttle body, do I need to clean or replace IAC valve and EGR valve?

I also read on the forum to check the vaccum hoses for leaks, looking for more info on location fo the vacuum hoses and how to clean or replace them?

Camry :: 6th Gen - Slow Idle After New Battery

I replaced the battery and the engine idle went from a reasonable 650 to 450 rpm's.

The engine is surprisingly smooth at that engine speed but the low idle speed makes it less smooth on take off from stop.

Right after the battery was installed one of the radio functions was backwards, AUX and CD were reversed, soon after it went back to normal.

Is there a way to reset the computer to stock, something makes me think this is the problem.

Camry :: 1994 - Variable Idle - Bad IAC?

Variable idle. Ignition new as is air filter etc. Idles fine in neutral, a bit rough in drive, smooths out with AC on. Sometimes it's also fine with AC off. Sometimes not, literally stop to stop. Removed and cleaned IAC. Reinstalled with new gaskets etc. 30 ohm resistance between center and either side pins. Manual specifies 19.3 to 22 ohms. Is the 30 ohm reading enough variation to indicate a bad IAC in need of replacement?

Camry :: 09 - Idle Vibration Plus Engine Movement

I have been tackling my engines idle vibrations for a while now. Now that I noticed the engine also tilts when switching from N to D about 2 inches. Here are some specs and things I have done with little effect.2.4L engine, cleaned throttle body MAF sensor, checked and replaced spark plugs, PCV replaced, checked engine mount(visual inspection, no cracked rubber ) , idle at about 900rpm, and idle sometimes drops when no load is applied, that's when vibration gets worse, normal idle still gives vibration that can be felt on the seats...and you can see the seats vibrate...
