My Camry won't start, the lights are coming on, but don't get this ticking sound, only the fuel pump running. I changed the Battery, the Starter relay and still the same thing?
View 3 RepliesThis just started. Twice so far. The dashboard brake light, ABS light and the Traction control light pop on while driving. Pull over, shut the engine off, restart and everything is OK again.
View 3 RepliesJust tried to engage my 4x4 today to see if it was working and nothing. It is the electronic shift on the fly. I started checking the vacuum hoses and found one that looked like a mouse chewed threw part of it and repaired that line. Still no 4x4. So...there are no lights coming on, no sound from the transfer case shift motor and no noise of any kind when cycling the shift ....
I pulled the connection apart at the shift motor to test for voltage with 2hi and truck running and no 12volt. I tested all the pins but not sure if i did it correctly. Also the shift motor itself is rusty on the outside casing. What pin to test for voltage?
I've had this 2003 XLE v6 for several days. Just got new rear tires, to match the almost new fronts.
Drove fine for about 100 miles. Then my conscience told me to get an alignment. I got in the car after the alignment and the VSC and TRAC OFF lights were on. I went back in and got the "they were on when we drove it in" song.
After pressing the trac button several times, the VSC went off, then the TRAC OFF when out. "Oh well" maybe he was not BSing me, so I drive off. Came back on within a couple hundred feet.
Now, it seems they go off right after starting the engine, with all the others, but will come on almost as soon as I drive off. If I just sit there idling, does not seem to come back on.
I should add they also told me the cabin air filter was filthy and had to wait while the put it back in when I declined. After all, I can get it way cheaper, etc. I mention because I have seen some comments about this happening in some models after changing that filter.
So, what did the do? Or what can I do?
2003 Camry XLE V6.. As soon as I drive the VSC an TRAC OFF lights go on.
This happened recently: Had low air pressure on rear driver's side tire. Gave it air and it's good now.
The lights still won't turn off. I took it to a mechanic, he checked on the computer, but found no codes. I told him about the deal with the tire and he said that the system might need to be reset or re-calibrated because the stability control probably detected one of the tires had some abnormal movement by hitting a bump or maybe because of the low tire pressure, etc.
How do I reset/re-calibrate or do whatever to turn these lights off?
2003 Camry xle 3.0 auto. VSC and trac off lights came on after I plugged in an obdc II checker. A 30 dollar red one.
This happened once before when I had a wheel alignment done but kept pestering the shop till they fixed it.
This time, I had the rr jacked up to look for source of noise and plugged this in, just for chuckles. No chuckles now.
I did find a write up on how to turn it off with some paper clips and fancy finger work and will give it a go.
But, is this going to happen every time I plug in a tester?
My 2014 camry won't start. I put my key in the ignition and the dash lights come on and blinks once and won't start. The brake pedal won't depress and the steering wheel stays stiff.
I was messing with my sound system the day before and now the car won't start. I've check the battery and it's good and has juice. I've checked all the fuses and relays seem to be fine. Everything work on the car it just won't start.
These cars have a main relay or something with the ignition switch?
Recently I have faced a new issue with my car. Sometimes and not always when I try to start my car, it does not. The lights on the dash board appears initially but once the car does not start they go off.
I then go and use my keys to hit the negative terminal of the battery. Once I do it for a couple of times(hit the terminal with key for about 10-15 times). All lights come up on and then I can start the car.
-- The terminal is not corroded.
-- The terminal does not look loose.
-- The battery has been checked and is GOOD
Car wouldn't start the other morning and figured a dead battery but found it to be charged. Things are going haywire in the car lights blinking,relays clicking etc when i try to start it. Car was acting fine just a day prior and gave no indication that something was wrong. It's a 93 3.0 v6. I'm gonna pull the starter and check the wiring before i write it off.
View 5 RepliesHave a 2011 Camry base 6 spd manual. Came out from work and won't start. Electrical cutting on and off. Turn key and only only light comes on with clicking. Get a jump and it starts but all electrical comes on and off for five minutes until engine dies. Now won't start with jump and just makes clicking noise at alternator with lots of lights on and off on the dash. Seems like a major short somewhere.
New battery seems a waste at 2 years old and probably not the problem.
I have a 2003 Camry V6 LE.
Yesterday the headlights did not turn off automatically when the car was locked up after being driven for about 30 minutes. Unfortunately, this was not detected until about 8 hours later.
The door locks would not function with the remote and the doors were manually unlocked.
When I got in the car and tried to start the car the dash and dome lights began blinking/flickering, the CD player ejected the CD, and the security light was blinking as it would if the doors were still locked.
The battery was too low to start the car so I jumped the car to start it and got home.
Battery showed 12.7 volts cold the next morning before the car was started. While running there was about 14.3 volts across the battery terminals which would seem to say the charging system is OK. Battery is just under 3 years old.
Doing some testing, I found that the headlights would turn on with the multifunction switch without the car running. In this case they would not turn off through locking the doors even after double clicking the lock button on the remote. The only way to turn them off in this case was through the multifunction switch.
Other testing shows that if the lights were turned on with the car running, they would turn off automatically within about 30 seconds or so when the car was shut off and the doors locked. In another similar test with the engine running and then shut down I also tried the double click lock using the remote and this also turned the lights off immediately.
Based on research on TN site, one recommendation for a similar, but not identical, problem was to replace the multifunction switch. No one suggests replacing the headlight relay or any of the 4 DRL relays.
My 4 cylinder 2009 Camry XLE has a strange intermittent starting problem. Twice in the last month when I tried to start it absolutely nothing happened. There was no sound and the interior lights did not come on. I suspected that it might be the battery even though the battery is only a year old. However, when I tried to start it a few minutes later it started with no problems. The only sign that something was wrong was that the clock was off by several hours and the radio had lost its presets. The symptoms were the same both times this happened, and between occurrences everything was fine.
View 6 Replies2000 Camry 4 CYL ... Very sporadically, the car won't start. The battery was replaced a year ago, so that's not the problem. The lights on the dashboard turn on, but there is no sound and the car won't turn on. After turning the key 10-12 times, the car finally starts. It happens in rain, no rain, mild or hot weather. There just does not seem to be a reason. We had the mechanic change the spark plugs, but that didn't work. He doesn't want to start replacing things willy-nilly until he can duplicate the problem in his shop. We just don't want our daughter out late at night, and have THAT be the one time the car refuses to start.

View 17 RepliesI just acquired a 2003 Camry LE 2.4 with 143K miles on it. most everything on the car is in great condition, but I am getting bad engine noise at about 1500 rpms and higher.
It sounds like I may have a spun bearing, but am not 100% sure.
The oil filler baffle is still in place -
What is the best way to diagnose if a spun bearing is the problem?
If so, what are my options?
I was thinking:
a) get a replacement motor
b) repair the one I have
c) scrap the car
Although I don't need the car immediately, I also don't have a closed garage to work in (2 project motorcycles in pieces and nowhere for a car at the moment) and have never pulled an engine out of a car before or done anything in the lower part of the engine.
I am comfortable checking valve clearances and other maintenance - On my 96 Camry I have replace the front suspension, shocks, gas tank, all fluids/filter/hoses, harmonic balancer, alternator, starter etc. - but not too sure about engine internals.
I have a major issue the wife 09 camry won't crank nor start. It all happened after i touched the alternator and heat shield with a rachet . She was complaining about her battery light coming on and flashing so I goes out to see and noticed the ark coming from the alternator so i reached down to touch the wire while the car running and hit both the heat shield and alternator together sparks jumped off of course . I shut the running car off then tightrb up the alternator loose bolt. When I tried to restart the car it wouldn't turn over. I checked most of the fuses and now I'm lost and stuck....
View 2 RepliesI have a 1995 Toyota Camry, 4 Cylinder that has just started stalling when I step on the gas after a complete stop. After that, the car will not start for over an hour and will last only a few miles after that. this has happened 3 times so far. I have changed out the fuel pump but that did not do the trick.
I also noticed that when it was cold this past winter and I was on the highway the temperature would decrease a lot. But regular city driving the temperature seemed fine. Well now that it's warm again, the car shuts off at just above the halfway mark. So this morning I changed out the Thermostat and now it's running hotter than ever, the heat does not work at all, and the car will not start. (it started up fine after the thermostat install but the engine temp was high and heat was not blowing warm) I'm hoping it's not a bigger issue.
I have a 2003 Camry. Recently, the dash board signal has started to turn on i.e. Battery,abs,brake, etc. when I accelerate. Around 1000 rams the light come on,then will turn off below the 1000 rpms. Now, at 2000 rpms the heater fan will increase speed to maximum.
I had the battery tested and it checked out ok. Could this be the alternator?
I've a loud squeaking sound coming from the front of the engine on cold start. This only happens when I start the engine after overnight parking . There are no squeaks when the engine is warmed up or when I start up with a warm engine.
I'm driving an 07 Camry and live in a region with hot tropical weather.

What could be the probable cause of the this and how do I rectify it?
I have been noticing a gas smell coming from the rear drivers side. There isnt any traces of gas on my garage floor. But I have noticed that I have been buying gas more frequently.
