I just bought a used 2003 camry, it has I assume a stock alarm system (stock Toyota alarm fob), the alarm is set to auto lock after about 20 seconds after the door is shut (previous owner lived in NYC). How do I turn off the auto lock? I want the system to lock when I press the lock button on the fob (live in a very rural area and often leave the keys in the car).

She says the "EPC" light stays on in the cluster, but that's just all the lights turning on right? I remember this happening in my 97 Golf. A recharge of the battery is all I should need right?

I want to know how can i be sure that the car dose not have the alarm unplugged or those not have at all and if it doesn't can I put the VIP RS3200 security system.
View 2 RepliesMy 14' SE i4 locks when the trunk is left open for about a minute. To make things a little more confusing is that the car does not auto lock if the trunk is closed, I know this because when I get to work I never lock my doors. The first time the car locked with the trunk open I thought I must have accidentally hit the lock button on the key, but I have tested this with the key left in the house.
View 14 RepliesI have been noticing this problem more frequently. It's been about 2 months that I noticed the car is doing this.
I would typically touch the door handle to lock the car, (hear the beep) and sometimes I use the remote at a distance to make sure I did not forget to lock it. But after I return to the car, I usually go to the trunk, to put away my briefcase, (without pressing any button). After closing the trunk, and going to the driver side passenger door(its unlocked) (no beeping sound or anything)
I have made sure several times (clicking the button several times) that I indeed locked the car. but it's unlocked. I have tested the auto lock feature on my car (locking, then unlocking without opening doors, yes it automatically locks the doors after 60 seconds).
I bought an '02 LE, 4 cyl w/123k miles and found electric issues. Are they somehow related and indicate a bigger issue? No lights by shifter (PRINDL). Auto shut-off for overhead light works intermittently. Driver door lock button works intermittently – at times when you pull to lock door it’s ok. At times it slides back and forth doing nothing, and can’t be locked manually w/ key or w/ remote. Driver and passenger windows kind of jump at start of open and end of close.
View 2 RepliesI can't get Pop's 2004 Camry to start because the alarm keep going off. He's been driving it fine since he lost the fob 2 years ago until today.
Already removed the fuse which only kill the horn but can't get the engine to turnover. Disconnected the battery, that didn't work either.
I looked under the steering wheel and there are tons of wires so obviously I didn't know which ones to disconnect to bypass the alarm.
How do I set the auto dim to "off" by default? It's on by default and I don't like it b/c I can't get use to it.
View 8 RepliesI finally got my hands on tech stream cable and software and turned off DRL today. I also adjusted light sensitivity setting from normal to light 2. What i was trying to accomplish is to have faster respond of headlights coming on Auto and turning off quickly once it become light again if for example I am going through a tunnel.
I was in the mall today and headlights came on when i enter the garage. When i was leaving it was still light outside and yet even after 1 minute being outside of the cover garage the headlight would not turn off. I finally put it on DRL off and then back on auto and headlight stayed off.
Did i change the wrong setting? Is the result of me putting on light 2 means that while it will come on quicker in dark situation it will take longer to turn off?
My 2003 Camry LE is normally parked in our garage in Southern California so we have no problems. We have gone a few times to Utah, Arizona and other areas in So. Calif when it was very cold and had our alarm go off in the middle of the night. We turn it off and then it keep going off until we start driving it. Dealer doesn't want to disconnect alarm.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2003 Camry. Recently, the dash board signal has started to turn on i.e. Battery,abs,brake, etc. when I accelerate. Around 1000 rams the light come on,then will turn off below the 1000 rpms. Now, at 2000 rpms the heater fan will increase speed to maximum.
I had the battery tested and it checked out ok. Could this be the alternator?
Our Camry has about 105,000 miles on it. Car is well maintained, I change the oil every 3 k or so and the air filter is clean (although it is not a factory air cleaner- it is a K&N filter). Other maint is done as specified by the warranty/maintenance book although the car is long out of factory warranty.
We occasionally pull a 800 lb pop-up tent trailer and just got back from the Sierras after driving up some pretty tall passes with it. Car ran great, got great mileage, temp gauge rock steady. I say this because it is probably the most stressful driving we do with this car. While we live in the city we are retired and the car is not exposed to constant heavy traffic, dust or snow. Mileage seems to have remained pretty steady, even with the hesitation.
Got home from the mountains and a couple days later the car began to hesitate when under load. The hesitation shows up as a slightly uneven surge when the car is going up a hill or when it is cold. About 20 mph the car seems to momentarily stop accelerating, then evens out and upwards of 40 mph I don't feel it at all. The hesitation is getting a bit worse over the last couple days in frequency, but still isn't felt on the freeway. I don't know if the hesitation is related to the recent trip to the Sierras.
I hooked up my OBD II computer to see if there are any DTCs, none shown, even left the computer on the car for a day to see if anything might pop up when the car surged, but the computer isn't seeing trouble codes.
My other thought was "got some bad gas", ran the tank out and put in new gas, fuel injector cleaner and dryer. With one new tank it hasn't worked. I haven't replaced the fuel filter yet.
Tried driving the car in 1st and 2nd gear only and found that the hesitation isn't dependent on what gear I'm in, but seems to be more about the speed and load. In neutral, slowly revving the engine, I don't detect anything that sounds or looks like a hesitation (just watching the tach).
Been reading about problems some Toyotas have had with unintended acceleration but I'm not sure that is my problem. I have to admit I didn't know that my Camry was "drive by wire" and maybe I don't understand it enough. Maybe a "reflash" might be needed?
My sense is that I should go ahead and do the next major maintenance items including plugs, but if I had a bad plug or plug coil wouldn't that show up as a Diagnostic Trouble Code item?
Could this be a bad injector or fuel filter? Wouldn't they produce a DTC? How do I break down the next steps?
How easy is this to do? I'm thinking about doing this to my 2003 Camry LE...
View 5 RepliesJust purchased a used 2003 camry 2.0G A/T. The driver's side window slides down well when using the auto button, but gets stuck 1/4 way on the way up. Have to wait a while before holding the button to slide it up all the way. What might be wrong and how I can correct?

I bought a 2005 Jetta GLI a couple of months ago and from the first day I noticed that occasionally when I would lock it with the alarm, the right turn signal would stay on. It was not much of a problem as I would just press the lock on the remote again a couple of times to turn it off. Lately it has become more frequent and annoying. I have to wait up to an hour so I can finally turn it off through the remote. I was thinking the relay probably.
View 15 RepliesI noticed that when I go to lock my car, the beep sound is extremely low, than at other times it is of normal loudness. I could be wrong, but is it possible there is an association with the altering sound and the rain? It seems after the rain it happens for a few days, then gets better.

I went a bought a new battery and replaced it, still no luck which now means I can lock my car but cannot set my alarm. I tried my extra remote and no luck with that one either.
