Camry :: 2003 2AZ FE - Grinding Noise Behind Glove Box

This noise happens from time to time with seemingly no rhyme or reason and has been present for some time now.
Here's a video of the noise in question. YouTube

The glove box normally opens in a slow and gradual, pneumatic kind of way. I opened it on Friday and it made a grinding noise then just dropped down. The left side hinge has ridges, like cog teeth and I'm guessing whatever gear fits those teeth has fallen out of alignment. The latch still works fine.
View 2 RepliesWhenever I start my car, there is about 20 seconds of loud grinding coming from the glove box. It's sort of a tak-tak-tak-grrr-tak-tak-tak-grrr over and over. I've opened the glove box and noticed that with each start, the Navi box spits out the DVD, makes an awful grinding noise, then self-reinserts the navi DVD. I'm guessing this isn't normal, as it jars the normally whisper-smooth operation of my Phaeton. Is there an easy fix, or is this something to take the car into the dealer for? It would my first time taking it in for anything.
View 5 RepliesI have a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe v6. I've had problems with the air conditioning in that it blows hot. Paid around 900 bucks to have a new compressor installed because the mechanic said that would fix it but it didn't. That was about 8 months ago. Still blowing strong but no cold air. About two weeks ago I took the car to a different mechanic who told me it needs a new compressor which would be 900 bucks. I declined that but had the guy do a little work on the breaks. He put new rotors and pads on the front brakes two weeks ago. Now within the past couple days when I start the car up it makes an extremely loud nasty grinding type of sound for a couple seconds then stops. Oil is fine and new. It happened this morning long enough for me to look under the hood and see the fans looked like they were fine, and the loud grinding noise seems to be coming from behind the glove box. It hasn't broke down on me yet, it's just really obnoxious and embarrassing with all the noise every morning.

View 1 RepliesI'm going to start tearing into my wife's car this weekend because the bearings are making an awful grinding noise at low speeds, so I feel like this needs to be done soon.
I bought from rockauto new hubs and bearings, but looking at them, it seems like the bearing goes over the outside of a shaft on the hub. Other that than, I'm not really sure how it all goes together until I look.
Just curious as to whether this can be done without a press or any special tools? I have an impact gun and all the sockets one could need, but I don't have a hub puller or bearing press or anything like that.
I've done a bunch of searches but can't seem to really find the answers I'm looking for...
My 2003 Camry makes a a grinding noise when the wheel is turned even slightly left. The noise is present at any speed, and is the same volume no matter what. I'm fairly certain its coming from the driver side front wheel. I changed that CV axle in January so hopefully that's not the issue.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2003 Camry XLE L4, and there is a grinding type noise when I turn the steering wheel at low to intermediate speeds, and when I go over a bump. I can also produce the noise when the car is parked and I bounce the driver's side up and down by placing my hands on the left fender. The struts, steering rack, and CV axels are all new. Also when the car is cold, turning the steering wheel produces a squeak (a different noise) from just behind the steering wheel.
View 11 RepliesAfter my 2003 Camry XLE sits overnight in sub 36 degree weather, get this random grinding and popping noise. Eventually this noise dissipates, I believe as the parts around the wheel get warmer. I have had the car in the shop a couple times now, and the mechanics are never able to figure out the noise. They are convinced that it is suspension related, but I am fairly certain it isn't. I get the same noise on smooth roads and at very slow speeds.
It feels like it is bearing related, or perhaps brakes, but I am not a mechanic. I am guessing. I do know it is related to the spin of the wheel rather than the up and down motion of the suspension.
I've got an 03 Camry (211K mi.) with front and rear disk brakes. I have a pulsing/grinding sound from the rear brakes. I think the pulse is from the run-out of the disk/rotor. Took it to a Toyota dealership last year and they pulled apart, cleaned and lubricated the parking brake assemblies on both sides. Brakes ran quiet for about 3 months and then the noise came back. When the climate is dry, it makes all kinds of noise. When it's humid (above 80%) or raining it's quiet. It still stops good and there is no pulling to one side or another, so I figure my calipers aren't leaking.
I bought the car used a little over 3 years ago and don't know when the last brake job was done. I was going to replace the front and rear disks and pads and inspect the calipers for cracked cups or seals. I was talking to an old school mechanic and he said something about opening the bleeder line(s) when I compressed the cups or I'd damage the ABS control. I looked at my manual and it said nothing about this. I'm not looking to replace the ABS controller because of a silly mistake on my part. Looking for info about cracking the bleeder when compressing a caliper??
I have a 2007 Camry I4 AT. I searched and most mention noise coming from brake, etc. I don't see noise being mentioned when car is parked.
With my Camry in P, if I push the car a little bit, even just getting in or out of the car, I can hear a metal grinding noise coming from the rear of my car. The brakes looks okay. If I engage the foot brake, the noise reduces but does not go away. The noise seems to come from the bottom rear.
My car just started making a grinding noise when accelerating. It does not make it while maintaining a constant speed or revving the engine in neutral. I never had this problem before and I am at a loss to explain it. Car is 1995 Camry for what that is worth.
View 4 RepliesMy issue is my camry has gotten considerably louder. I know its currently winter but even with good weather and its idle still gets noticeably loud. has like a low grumbling, grinding noise. The car has about 72k miles on it i do my oil change roughly every 5k miles. i put full synthetic 0w-20 into the engine. As of late have been working a lot about 2 weeks ago i checked the oil levels and it didn't register on the dip stick. went to my friends house the next day and did an oil change. added 0w-20. fwe also replaced the valve cover gasket this past sunday as well as the spark plugs. I'm not sure if the lack of oil might've caused this issue or if it has to do with my exhaust system. Sounds more like its coming from the exhaust manifold or somewhere in-between. When we were changing my oil my friend did indicate that my car did touch bottom. I'm not sure the best way to approach this. Should i just take it to the dealer and have them look into why it has become much louder?

I have 35k on my 2009 camry, (past warranty). All of a sudden in the last few days when I make a sharp left turn (like into a parking spot) I hear a grinding noise from my car. Not really a full on grinding, but like a quiet fart can muffler noise. No issues with alignment, driving straight, or sharp right turns.
View 5 RepliesI recently had TSB 0146-10 ( grinding noise at cold start ) performed and my cold starts are even louder now. My dealer screwed it up 2 times and I have to return again due to this noise, leaking valve covers, and lots of metal filings found in oil and filter? It seems to me Toyota has a big issue with the VVT cam gear on this engine and wanted to post a video of my cold start?
My vehicle is a 2010 RAV4 with the 2AR-FE ( 2.5 ltr ).
This is after 2 cam gear replacements and the dealer confirmed this to be the sound of a bad VVT gear.

I replaced the front hubs and bearings on my brothers 2002 Camry today. He drove less than a block and developed awful grinding noise and it won't move in reverse or drive. It rolls when I put it in park. I had to pull it back into my shop. Is it possible the inner CV came loose and i didn't realize it? It all seemed to go back together fine. The new CV axle nuts were quite tight and slow to put on with my impact gun.
What else could possible go kaput when I re & re hub/bearings? And what a long ugly job to replace those bearings. Don't even think about doing this without a good hydraulic press. Up to the point of getting knuckle off, it was easy job.
Its a 2006 Toyota Camry 2.4l.. its been sitting for about 4 weeks now which has given me and her some personal time...I cant get it to run without me covering the intake hole. Last night my girlfriend and I were tinkering with it... before I sprayed carb cleaner and sealed the hole off with my hand she pressed the gas and I heard a grinding noise. So I told her to pump the gas with the ignition on and the gas peddles and the grinding noise was synchronized in timing. I turn the ignition off and press gas nothing... I'm guessing that's because its a fuel injected vehicle and everything is electronic (ECM) also I noticed when you cycle key from on to off it makes that noise also... won't start and I need my car.
View 4 RepliesI recently acquired a 2003 Camry with 150,000mi. its has a rough take off from stop and when I accelerate it make a rattling/grinding sound. the sound disapates after around 30mph. Ive changed trannyfluid, oil change next is plugs and all that good stuff since I do not know when it was done last.
View 4 RepliesWe have a Toyota Camry 2011 Saturday I changed the engine air filter and the cabin air filter. I had no problem with the engine air filter however I'm having problems with the glove boxes damper. It seems that it will not stay in place I've connected it back to the bolt and pulled the lever out and attached it to the glove box.
View 9 RepliesI start noticing a weird noise upon cold start up. It sounds like something is grinding. First goes starter sound and then engine noise together with this grinding noise. Grinding noise goes away within sec. or so. It is not really loud, but it definitely not engine or starter sound.
It happens only on cold starts when engine is completely cold. If I start engine, let it run for few minutes, shut it down and restart again, it starts without grinding noise. Don't remember if car was doing it from beginning, never turned car while I was outside. Few weeks ago when temperature dropped below freezing point, I turned ignition through passenger door to warm up the engine.
After that I begun listening every start up. Every start up same noise. Every morning and every time after work I hear this noise. No noise if car been driven recently or engine is still warm.
Not my car, but sound is identical : [URL] ......
2013 2.5 liter. I took my car into the dealer for a grinding noise on cold start. Sounds kinda like the starter was engaged too long, some sort of grind that only happens after the car has been sitting for a few hours.
They replaced a camshaft VVT-i gear, said it's fixed, and now I swear the noise is louder. Is this just something to consider "normal" for the 2.5 liter engine?
