Camry 2002 XLE 4Cyl. 2.4 ... When I switch ignition key on, there are no ABS and Brake light come on. Why is that happening? How to fix it? Normally, when we switch ignition key on, what are indicator light on?
View 6 RepliesIs there any way to replace the keyed ignition with a simple momentary switch of some sort? Or is the built in security features too intertangled in the whole design? IE I suspect I'd have to disable tronsponder, keyed ignition, security system, steering column lock, some computer features? I definitely no expert but wondering if it's possible.
View 1 RepliesJust got done installing the ignition switch on my 02 Malibu. Car starts up and runs fine, the only problem is that when I take the key out of the ignition. The car still thinks its in and continues to beep. I Checked and made sure that everything else in the car was off, and it still continues to beep and won't let me lock the car when i open the door because it believes the key is still in the ignition. I double checked and made sure all the wires were plugged in properly and still have the same issue. What is going on?

View 7 RepliesI have a 1998 Mazda Protege LX Automatic, and my ignition switch is completely unresponsive: when on accessory or run position nothing comes on.
I am also noticing that I can switch gears even with the key out and brake pedal not depressed.
I tried to check the function of the ignition switch, and found the following:1) It has one white wire with 3.5v2) When the switch is in Acc position, a black wire with white stripe also has 3.5V on it now3) WHen the switch is in On position, all the wires going into the Switch have 3.5V on them...
I just got a Camry SE 2016 last Wednesday. and when I put the ignition key in and switch it, before turning on the engine, this message shows up: "Check charging system". and when the engine starts, the message is gone. Is this normal?

Sometimes, when I turn the ignition on I don't hear a sound and all the power dies in the car (the radio ejects the CD and all the presets are erased when I turn it out of start). This can happen once or twice in a row then generally the car starts up normally.
The battery is brand new (1 month) and is fully charged. My hope is that it's the starter drawing too much power when it tries to start? It's entirely possible it has the factory starter still on the car.
Just bought an 02' camry and the high mount brake light on the spoiler is half burnt out. Tried removing what I'm guessing is an LED assembly but the screws are stuck and the angle is really awkward. Am I going to have to replace the whole LED bar?
View 2 RepliesMy 1999 GMC Sonoma has a occaisonal problem--the tail lights stay lit after the light switch and the ignition are turned off. The brake pedal does not appear to be sticking. The cure has been to remove both light bulbs, wait a few minutes, plug them back in, and all is well. This might happen an average of once a month, seems more common in hot weather.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2002 Camry 2.4L, ECM 89666-06220, ignition coil 90919-02243. One of the coils has gone out. I got a misfire code on P303. I then moved the cylinder 3 coil to cylinder 4, cleared the code and restarted the car. The new code was P304, bad coil. I found a set of low mileage used coils, 90080-19023. The dealer says this number was one of the three options for 2002. But the pin-to-pin ohm values don't match.
The 90080-19023 pin ohms, 1-2= 348, 1-3=667, 1-4= 490, 2-3= 1100, 2-4= 912, 3-4= open. The 90919-02243 pin ohms, 1-2= 390, 1-3= 673, 1-4=940, 2-3= 1154, 2-4=1403, 3-4= open. How to successfully do this substitution and not burned up ECM ?
My steering wheel and ignition locked up 2 days ago. I tried turning the wheel and the ignition at the same time, tried the brakes, tried shifting gears and anything else i could think of. I think the problem might be with the ignition coils, or multiple ones, but i have bypassed that by hot-wiring the car(which was a pain because of all the anti-theft features).
So I have the car running now and it is almost drivable except the steering wheel is locked up. I need to know how to fix this, i have read plenty on it and i think i can break a pin that locks the steering wheel to make it work, but i don't know where this pin is(might be behind the ignitions, or attached to it somewhere). if i could do this without breaking anything that would be great, but if the car will run, I am ok with it begin broken, because i already hot-wired it so I'm not worried about breaking anything unless it will make the car not run.
Was checking fuses for why my 3rd brake light and pedal adjustment switch does not work. Was also looking for a fuse to tie into so that a light in the cab floorboard will stay on when the headlights or marker lights are on... After trying several spots to no avail (finally putting it into the bright headlight fuse). I got the light to work.... But now my ABS light stays on!!! Also 3rd brake still not working...

View 2 RepliesThe brake light switch on my '05 failed Friday. The '04 it replaced and the '03 we still have had brake light switch failures, too. Obviously, this can be pretty dangerous. I suggest that all Passat B5/5.5 owners check their brake lights frequently until VW gets it together and has a recall like they did for other models.
View 4 RepliesI have an 04 RX330. As I can tell by searching this forum, the brake light switch going out is a common problem. Lexus did a recall in 04 for this, so they know it's an issue. My vehicle was purchased new by a family member and it had the switch replaced under the recall in 05 by the selling dealer.
I got the car in 13 and soon the switch had to be replaced again at around 50k miles. This week the dashboard lit up again with all of the "idiot lights" and I knew what it was. Took it to the same dealer as the 2nd repair and they fixed it at no charge parts or labor. This is fine of course, but the part #s on the receipts from repair 2 and 3 match so my expectations aren't very high. I have 69k miles.
I need to replace, its either a brake pressure sensor or speed control deactivation switch . Would like to know which it is and can I get a generic one from other auto parts beside a ford dealer Can post a pic of part as soon as I figure out how to do that exactly. 2002 f250 super duty....
View 8 RepliesI have an 06 sonata and have no brake lights and the constant ESC off light staying on. After reading countless threads on here I see that the brake light switch was recalled on these and this is extremely common problem with this year and model. I went to my local shop bought a brand new switch, installed it properly and still the lights won't come on. I changed the fuses as well. Emergency lights, and the tail lights when the headlights are on come on but no brake lights. My next guess is the bulbs? they look ok. But I had a dodge caravan where both bulbs went out before at the same time so is that a possibility with this?

View 14 RepliesMy 1.8T with auto trans is stuck in park. I've read that the likely culprit is the break light switch but before I order the part and install it I wanted to check what else it can be because it was working fine before I fixed some coil wires. Basically I unplugged the ECU and tested continuity from the coil connectors to the ecu connectors.
I found an issues, resolved it, plugged everything back in, fire the car up, turned it off, re-installed all the covers, etc. Then I repaired a broken wire in the trunk lid wiring that was broken. But when I went to back it out of my garage I couldn't get it out of park.
If it's just happened to go while doing all this other work then it's just a coincidence, but are there other things I can check based on the ignition work I've been doing?
