Camry :: 2002 V4 Developed Consistent Hesitation
Sep 20, 2012
My 2002 V4 Camry has developed a consistent hesitation. It only occurs during the first 15 minutes (or so) after cold startup. I've replaced: plugs, 2 O2 sensors, Mass Air flow, and EVAP Canister.
Am about to try the throttle position sensor.

A major throttle hesitation has developed in this car, that is so bad, sometimes when you put the pedal to the floor it doesnt want to accelerate at all. Feels like the car has a bout 25% power, it seems to shift very weird also, its like the car is trying to keep the rpms very low. I am not positive but it seems to occur mostly when the car is first started and still cold,or on very wet or humid days?it feels like the car is activating the traction control and the throttle plate is not opening all the way at wot?
Notice: already change spark plugs + A/T oil + filter

Recently I switched from Revo software with 440cc injectors to Unitronic with Siemens 630cc injectors. After swapping, the car has developed a hesitation issue. It only happens when driving a consistent speed in one gear, for example going 45 in 5th, the car will feel jumpy and hesitate to accelerate with a seeming loss of power. Replaced spark plugs with new ones and the problem still persists. Problem never happened with old software and injectors.

I have a 2002 Camry xle v4. It has a hesitation at low acceleration. I've replaced EVERYTHING: Mass Flow Sensor, 2 O2 sensors, plugs, etc. This past weekend I changed the plugs again with a better quality than before and the hesitation went away....for 2 days! Now its back.

I just bought my 2002 camry 9 months ago and have had it into at least 4 different shops and the last two visits were a toyota dealership. Problem, traveling at 30'- 40'mph, car has slight hesitation and slight surge feel. It feels as if passenger is messing with a driver's ed brake? Problem is sporadically intermittent. Dealership did update ECM, but not sure what they did. What to do next so my car will roll smoothly and I can love my camry?

248K miles. At hwy speeds, acceleration is great. But when "gas" is slightly relaxed without moving foot (e.g. downhill or level not acceleration) experience slight hesitation. Happens in and out of cruise control. What might cause this? Fuel pump?

So I have had my 02' Camry for a little over a year. Love the car, it is a 2.4L SE with a 5-speed manual. Recently it has developed this mystery misfire/hesitation under a load and at idle with the AC on. I replaced the plugs with OEM Toyota Iridium and it seemed to clear it up for about a month, but now has come back. If I start the car and turn on the AC it will intermittently start to miss but not only when the compressor is engaged and it does it every now and then under a load specifically in 4th or 5th gear under a load with lower RPM's (under 2000).
The check engine light is not on and hasn't as much as even flashed on at any time so there must not be any hard misfire codes. I want to stop by Autozone and see if they will scan it to find any stored codes but haven't had time. I would think that if it was a coil pack that it would be a hard misfire. I'm stumped. This car is in great condition...no oil leaks, interior is near perfect (replaced a worn shift knob, and door panel pieces around the window switch). Also car has 160k miles.

I have a 2002 v6 petrol Santa Fe which developed a rather loud knocking from the bottom end over the weekend.
To cut a long storey short I have had the best use from this car for a long time and she has served me well so rather than patching her up I have decided to replace her with something new and less guzzley :-)
The reason I have got in touch is because I'm not sure whether to break her or sell as is. I have the space and room to break the car up but understand it will take an age to sell the parts and don't know if this is more likely to raise more cash than just selling the car as is with the fault.

OK, I have developed a leak in the power steering hose that connects to the fluid reservoir (the smaller diameter hose). The dealer only sells this as an assembly (all the way to the pump, and very expensive). The hose is molded. Need to replace just this first hose section? AutoZone and several others I checked don't seem to have this (at least on line).

I have a 2012 camry se v6, with about 56k miles. It has been lowered on H&R springs since 20k miles. I recently got new rims, but used my old tires. I developed a high speed vibration. I got it aligned twice, and balance twice. But i still can not get rid of this vibration?

I noticed recently that on my 2007 Camry i4 @ 110k miles, engine rattles pretty noticeably when I have the AC on AND while on reverse. Once I either turn off the AC or shift to D drive the rattle is no more. This noise is pretty consistent.
Not sure if this is a common problem, but could this be a problem with the water pump/alternator?

A Power Steering leak has developed on my 2002 Alero's driver side near the front wheel. I've been aware from other posts that it may be the Rack and Pinion, a power steering pump or a seal. There has been no noises in my steering when I drive and its steering well as it ever was. I am wondering is there a way to detect what of the three things it may be?, without taking it into a dealership or shop?

My a/c has been slowly but surely going out. When it worked it would blow cold air, but it would slowly decrease the force that it would blow until almost nothing came out at all. Now it wont even turn on. The cabin air filter is new, the lights on the a/c and circulator are both on. I think the compressor is still turning on too. I did notice that occasionally it will make a quick hiss noise, but it happens fast, not a consistent hissing noise.

Have 2002 mazda protege 5 . During acceleration at 3000 rpm the engine hesitates. Computer said o2 sensor, replaced it but that wasn't it. Drilled out both catalytic, that wasn't it. Found hole in mass air flow tube, figured that is it. I haven't replaced that yet, however I used gorilla tape thinking it would be a temporary fix but that didn't work. I know I need to replace that tube, but think that it may now be a fuel pump issue??

When I stop for a few minutes, such as at a light, or making a left hand turn, my car hesitates. The place I take it to cannot find the problem and they have replaced a lot of things in it, but still no change. It is a 2002 car, so it is a little older, but I have always kept it in good shape, it has 65,000 miles on it.

I am having a slight hesitation problem on my 2002 gls. When the car is cold and I am shifting with low rpm there is a slight hesitation untill higher rpms then it seems to clear. I wouldn't say a "stutter" or enough to "buck" the car but definitely noticeable. The strange thing is when the car gets up to temp it seems to stop. Almost like a carb on an older engine.

Our intrepid 3.5L with 135000 miles has been acting up a bit. Its had a couple hard shifts over the last few days/week that almost seemed like an engine hesitation, and this morning when slowing down from highway speed into a small town, it abruptly shifted down to 2nd and stayed there like its in "limp mode" ??.
Pulled over and checked fluid. Level looked good and smelled ok but has a brown tinge to the pink fluid.
Started to go again and it still wouldn't shift. Pulled over and shut car off. Checked codes P700 and P138.
Started car up and it shifted fine for the next 28 miles. Shut car off and parked it.

I have an '02 Santa Fe GLS V6 2WD. I am having a strange problem and do not know what it could be. When car is cold, it starts up and runs with no problems. After about 15-20 mins, there is a slight hesitation or studder. RPM's drop slightly and shutters. When i accel, engine studders, then runs fine. This only happens when at idle in drive. At highway speeds there is no problem. What can this be?

I have a 2002 Hyundai Accent with a 1.5L SOHC and manual transmission, with 207,000 trouble-free miles on it.
I have recently noticed a hesitation under acceleration. It happens most frequently under hard acceleration under lower RPM, if I'm close to lugging the engine. The engine "hiccups," almost like it is missing a cylinder. It will hiccup 2-3 times until engine RPM's increase, then smooths out.
What the cause may be? Last changes: Plugs at 175K; Plug wires @ 160K, Fuel filter @ 100K, Timing belts at 60K, 120K, 182k. K&N air filter cleaned at 50K intervals, last time @ 200K.

My subaru forester, 2002, with low mileage (40K) had routine maintenance 2 mos ago. Now sounds like it revs when in idle, and today began hesitating when I accelerate (a few seconds or so). I plan to take it in but wonder if there's insight before I go in cold (I know nothing about cars). Read on forums could be 02 sensor.

A problem just popped up yesterday. 09 Camry, 2.4L, SE, about 178k on the odo. Started out as a slight hesitation when trying to accelerate from a stop, hardly noticeable, in the am. As day progressed it got much worse (very little driving but about 3 to 4 trips). By night the car wants to die upon first start up. Engine will rev higher, then drop, then rev, and will drop way low and stutter and die if I don't feather gas. Very bad hesitation today when trying to get moving. This morning it was revving high, low, high, low (high meaning a little over 1000), then dropped, stuttered and died. Cranked again fine.
My in gear idle rpm is about 650. I will be checking the plugs and throttle body later today as several months back I had issues that seemed to be related to those. I have my suspicions, but want to get opinions. I filled up the tank yesterday morning. Was about 14 degrees yesterday morning, warmed up to around 30. In the 40s today. Engine does get to normal temp, all that fun jazz. I am thinking shitty gas....?
