Camry :: 2002 - Using 2 Quarts Extra In Between Oil Changes
Dec 10, 2012
I have a 2002 Camry with 302,245 miles. I am noticing that it is using a lot of oil. Maybe 2 quarts extra in between oil changes.
I came home tonight and noticed oil on the garage floor. At first I thought it was water from the AC but it smelled and felt like oil.
Could the engine be burning oil and a possible leak?

I have a 1999 toyota corolla I just bought it for my daughter for her first car the only thing I've noticed is that it only had 1000 miles on it since I changed the oil and that it was 3 quarts low? Not sure what happened but I checked it again after her second 1000 miles and it was again 3 quarts low. The car does not leak oil and does not smoke

For an '04 Passat Wagon with manual transmission. NO 4-motion.
I'm buying liter bottles of gear oil G052911A2 and need to know how many to get for a full fluid change.

My buddy has been telling me that his 2000 dodge Dakota v8 sport is burning 4 quarts of oil a day. Note that he only drives roughly 25 miles a day. The truck is claimed to have no oil leak whatsoever and this happens around 2500 miles after every oil change. I find it very hard to believe.

My 09 matrix is using about 3 quarts of oil every 5000 miles. I bought the car new and it has 114,000 miles on it. I don't notice any smoke or leaks anywhere.

What weight should I use?
Seems to burn a little oil, anything to reduce this?

My 2009 Dodge Journey is great for the first 2,500 miles after each oil change, then the oil just seems to vanish. The dealership has been tracking this for a couple of cycles... the oil level is fine when they check it every 500 miles, but somewhere between 2,500 and 3,000 miles about 2 quarts disappear. No apparent leaks or puddles.
So... now the Dodge dealer is saying they want to tear down the motor to "find out what's wrong," but they can't even tell me what they're looking for. What they should be looking for? Also, they are not fessing-up if they have seen the same problem in other vehicles, but it's hard to imagine they randomly got permission to do this.

I have a 2004 F150 with a 5.4L with a little over 100,000 miles. And the engine knocks like it about 1 1/2 quarts low on oil! I'm not a mechanic by any means, but I'd like to know how to get this fixed. I've actually had 2 different people ask how I got a diesel engine in a 1/2 ton truck!

I had my SUV (2000 Ford Expedition) tuned up. I'm losing about 1-2 quarts of coolant every couple of days. While I was having the tune up done, I asked the mech to try to find where the coolant is going. He couldn't. He did say that they'd pumped the system up to 18 lbs (it's got a 16 lb cap) and it held for 45 minutes, so I'm a little (little-little) less afraid that it's my head gasket. Questions are these:
1. Could my 16 lb cap be at fault? It got pretty gunky when I mixed the coolants (see my post - Don't cross the streams).
2. Could my rear heat exchanger be leaking and where would the coolant come out? It's got rear air and heat that's controllable form the second seat.
I never see water on the ground or dripping. No white exhaust to detect. Doesn't run rough at all at startup. In other words, none of the traditional head gasket indicators.

My 26 row 6.0L cooler should arrive today. I was going to use the advanced auto parts discount code to order more Mobil 1 Tranny fluid. How many more quarts the 6.0L holds than the standard V10 tranny cooler?

I have a 1994 ford ranger with the 4cyl. My problem is that it uses 1-2 quarts of oil every couple of days and I cannot find a oil leak. I have pressure washed the whole underside of the truck and degreased the engine and i can not find a oil leak. It dose not smoke all the time but every now and then there will be a little puff of smoke out the exhaust and then every now and then every now and then (only when i stop) it will come a huge cloud of smoke but when it does it. I cannot ever tell where it comes from. But the truck runs fine and dosn't miss or anything...

Like it or not autumn and winter is coming. it is getting darker earlier and the back up lights on my truck are pretty weak. I do have a standard 7 pin (flat blade) connector, and looking at the wiring diagrams i could connect 1 cable to the centerpin for the back up light and one to the bottom left for ground. Now the question is how to connect the wires? I went to the parts store and almost bought a 7 to 4 pin converter and a 4 pin plug in with the wires hanging out but further investigation showed that the basic 4 pin plug would not support a back up light. I do not want to cut the wiring harness going into the connector, it has to be an another way.

I'm still trying to figure out the tiptronic trans. Sometimes it seems to have a mind of its own. One anomoly I've noticed fairly consistently is a "second" shift within 2nd gear. It happens a little above 2000rpm and it can be felt, heard and observed as a drop of several hundred rpm. It's as if the trans is shifting on its own, but its not since it remains in second gear until I upshift into third.

I have decided to purchase a set of Potenza RE760 Sport tires for my GTi.
I don't know the difference between extra load and standard. If I understood correctly extra load will be a bit harsher of a ride and is more performance oriented? What is the best option for my specific car? Running stock 18-inch Austin's btw.

As I had two extra keys from my last Prius (totaled 2010), I took them to the dealer to get them programmed - they spent gobs of time, but could not get them to register. They verified they were the correct keys - but in the end, could not get through to Toyota's higher level tech support to troubleshoot it....
They said they'd try again on my first service. Why there would be an issue programming extra keys???

So I drove my wife's 2013 Tig SE (FWD) yesterday and heard a weird (extra) door chime noise when I got out of the car....just doesn't sound right.
And my 2013 Tig S obviously doesn't do it.
Planned on taking it to the dealer.

My RC just hit 22k miles a couple of days ago. This morning when I went to turn on my car, it took a couple of extra cranks for the car to turn on. I am dropping the car off tomorrow at Lexus.

So I have the option to get a bds 4" lift for about 325 brand new from a friend.
Hard to pass up that deal but I really need like a 6 to 7" lift.
Is there anything i can add to get a few extra inches? Shackles?
I do NOT go off road its just for street use, and I only drive it maybe 4k a year if that.

I'm one month into a new '12 Outback, after previously purchasing a '12 Forester and trading up to the OB. Both cars have proven (to me at least) to have the worst front seats I've ever encountered in any car I've driven in nearly 30 years of driving. The adjustments on the Forester were limited to forward and backward, but even with the power adjustment on the OB, I'm having all kinds of back problems (including likely sciatica problems) that I've never experienced before. No amount of seat adjusting, or extra cushions or pillows, does anything to fix the problem. I'm facing a visit to the chiropractor to investigate the cause, but everything seems to point to the dang Subaru seats. I'm not at all unusual in my body type/frame/weight, so this is incredibly frustrating, especially since the OB, and even the Forester, are otherwise good vehicles and had everything I need at a good price.
