I have an 02 camry and the transmission appears to be leaking fluid around the transmission pan. The tranny shifts fine and I wiped the pan noticed the leak to get a little worse since the last time I was under to change the engine oil. Does that pan have a gasket or does it seal with just hi-temp sealer?
View 6 RepliesMy transmission on my 2002 7.3 4x4 is pouring fluid from somewhere above the rear of the pan. I thought it was the pan at first. I pulled it off and replaced the filter. After adding fluid while it was running for 4 or 5 minutes it started pouring again. It's not the pan. It's coming from above the pan somewhere. It won't leak unless it's running. Is there a place it can leak on top??
View 7 RepliesI had an 02 Explorer for years now and absolutely love it. It has almost 170,000 miles on it and is definitely showing its age. There's alot of rust underneath and ive been replacing things as they break. For about a year now I've been dealing with the transmission leaking fluid. This vehicle doesn't have a transmission dipstick and has to be filled from underneath. When I have the transmission full of fluid it works perfectly until recently. Now, when I go up a hill the transmission goes into an almost neutral state.
The R.P.M's will go up past 4000 and I'll have to stop. It doesn't misfire or bog down, just acts as if the tranny is in neutral. Sometimes I just sit there for a minute and its fine, other times I haven't been as lucky. In one instance I had to sit there for about 20 minutes, in another I disconnected the battery to reset everything, and on another instance it would stall out the moment I put it in gear. I know it's a little low on fluid and will be getting it filled again soon. I plan on possibly getting a new transmission this winter, but gotta keep it going till then.
I have replaced my cv axle and seal, and now I have transmission fluid leaking from the axle seal. What could be the cause of this? The seal is brand new as is the cv axle. Could it be that it the seal isn't seated correctly? What could possibly went wrong to cause this?
View 3 RepliesI bought a 2002 camry last month. It has 180k on it, and the previous owner says he never had the trans fluid changed.
It started to slip, so I parked it and I had it towed to a trans shop. Of course, they immediately say I need a trans rebuild.
My house was close, so I drove it home without any issues.
What are the chances that a fluid change will correct this for a little while atleast?
I have a problem with leaking transmission fluid. I find it all over the right front suspension, and I can't figure out where it is coming from or how to fix it.
View 2 RepliesI have a 2001 silverado 5.3, I have a stream of transmission fluid leaking down from the top of my transmission, I cant see the top of the tranny so I don't know if its a hose or what, but oil is everywhere, what was the diagnosis. It was fine yesterday no problem, and now once i start it up about couple mins fluid just leaking.

View 2 RepliesOur Elantra Coupe has 3000 miles on it and leaks ATF. Everyday I see more than a few drops underneath the drivers side. We took it to the dealer. They "re-tightened the bolts" but the leak continues. I crawled under it, removed the plastic belly pan and took some photos.
View 12 RepliesMy R is weeping a small amount of transmission fluid from where the front right axle mates up with the transmission. It's not a lot. If I leave my car parked for a few days I've only got a few drops on the garage floor.
I've talked to a few buddies and they've said everything from "you drive your car too hard and blew out a seal" (which I don't) to "well you don't drive your car for 5 months of the year, so the seal just dried up" (which could be true). I had VW check it out a few weeks ago, but like an idiot I cleaned it up before I brought it in, thinking that it would be weeping by the time I got there. No such luck however; so they checked the level of the fluid, declared it good, and told me to come back when/if it started again. Car drives fine, and there's no notchyness in the shift feel or anything like that.
I took my 1993 Ford Explorer for an oil change they told me I also needed a rear differential service and a transmission service, so I told them to go ahead (this was on a wednesday). On friday the car broke down leaking transmission fluid (reddish oil). The clutch was making a sound when pushed in and we were not able to shift. I towed it back to the place where the oil was changed the gentelman open something under the car and he said that it had transmission fluid. He got on the car turned on and push the clutch when he did that a lot of fluid began coming out (reddish oil). He said it was the clutch that went out. We think they messed up the transmission. I towed the truck to a garage and the guy mentioned something about a plug related to the transmission. Could the oil people have done something wrong to the transmission that made the car break down???
View 4 RepliesMy truck is leaking transmission fluid. I know you are going to tell me that i need new seals but, i have taken this truck to many mechanics and they assure me that its not the problem. It is leaking out the vent. There are two holes in the transfer case that we aren't sure if they are plugs but we plugged em anyway just to see what would happen and its still leaking so...not a fix. Apparently this is a rare transfer case and even rarer information to be found bcuz this model was only made for two years and because they were pretty reliable finding people that actually worked on them is even harder. Should I just buy a new transfer case or is there a way to fix this?

Automatic Transmission My son was trying to back up my empty 12' flat bed trailer up a hill (approximately a 25 degree hill). Why'll I was at work, my wife said he was having alot of trouble, and it was taking him awhile. She said she saw transmission fluid on the ground and stopped him immediately,and he turned off the engine. There is a trail of fluid on the driveway about 100' long and a 1/2" wide. This transmission has allways been solid, and only leaked a few drops on the driveway in almost 300,000 miles. what probably happened, and what I will need to do to fix it. I have allways worked on all my vehicles. But I know better than to get very deep into a transmission.
I have an '06 Camry 4cyl with 84,000 miles on the clock. The brake fluid in the mc is leaking down. It takes about 3 weeks for it to leak down enough for the brake light to come on. I have checked the mc,booster, hose from booster to engine,traced the lines to the ABS,traced the lines to each wheel,checked the calipers,rear wheel cylinders,and under the dash.

At the 30k service, Toyota technician said he noticed transmission fluid leaking at the axle seal." I was gonna show Lexus this at some point, or maybe get an oil change there at the 40k service.
View 3 RepliesSo when I had my timing belt done my mechanic showed me that I had some transmission oil leaking It didn't look like much but looked like it was coming from gasket my v6 Passat has 200k on it and I heard that transmission fluid shouldn't be changed on any car with high mileage the transmission doesn't really act up sometimes when its cold it takes a little bit of time to shift to first but when its warmed up its just fine, what are my options, a full drain and filter change, which I am skeptical about. Adding some new fluid, I just gotta know if I gotta replace the drain plug. and then just a fluid change drain and add.
View 7 RepliesAbout 2000 miles ago, I had the transmission on my liberty serviced. I had the pan dropped, the fluid drained / refilled, and the filter replaced. The work was done by a jeep dealer. The jeep ran fine with no rough shifting or error codes - in fact, I drove it 500 miles this weekend without incident. This morning, I backed out of my garage and found a big puddle of red fluid on the ground.
I warmed the vehicle up, and checked the transmission fluid level. It appeared to be low, so I added some (about 1/3 a quart). I then looked underneath the jeep and observed red fluid leaking from the transmission pan area. I ran my finger around the bottom of the pan and ended up with more fluid on my hand.
The fluid is clean - no discoloration or burnt odor. What might my problem be? Could it be an improperly sealed trans. pan? Something else?
The jeep is an '03 and the transmission is original to the vehicle. Bought it with 83K and have done fluid / filter changes at 90K, 120K, and 153K. Currently at 155K.
So, had a transmission fluid leak. Couldn't find the leak so I went to a transmission shop. The diagnosis is that a snap ring broke and resulted in a hole in my tranny, something about reverse gear pressures weakly designed snap ring.
Not too happy about this, being that I had thought that the transmission was the strong point of my truck... Is this common?

I have a truck that is leaking power steering fluid. I have change out the line from the bottom of the power steering fluid container, but i cant get it tight enough to stop leaking. I tighten it, and it stops for a while then starts leaking again.
