We just replaced the starter on our 02 Camry (176k miles) and everything seems fine except the speedometer is clear out of range to the right. Could we have a gotten a spike or surge somehow? Can we reset it...

View 11 RepliesI bought a used 2002 Camry (at a discounted price because of a few dings and dents) and the headlights are not working. The high beams and turn signals work but not the headlights. I changed the bulbs, checked all the fuses and got a new relay but still nothing. I brought it to an electro-mechanic and he told me the ECM was busted and that he could maybe grind it down. This seemed odd to me so I called my old mechanic in the states who said he has never heard of an ECM causing headlights not to work and suggested I install a toggle switch. Does this sound like it could work? Could I do this on my own? I'm pretty handy but am a little hesitant to try any electrical work on my car as I have no experience with electrical work.

View 2 RepliesIn my current speedometer the speed needle doesn't work i did everything and changed all sensors and checked all related issues and all is fine turned out the issue was with the speed gauge it self. So i bought my self a used speedometer.
Now my question is, how to dismantle the speedometer cause I want to take out the speed gauge from my old one a replace it with the new one i know its much easy to change the whole thing but I don't want to play with the mileage I have on my car.
I have a 2008 Accent two door hatchback. The speedometer started jumping and then just quit along with the odometer. The odometer displays the last mileage but doesn't increase. I replaced the speedometer sensor in the side of the transmission and found two of the pins on the connector socket going to that sensor were burnt. I have now replaced the three connector, cable and it still doesn't work. The Hyundai part number for the HMC Extension cable is 43893-23011. So, I have a new cable and new sensor. What next?
View 70 Repliesour 2001 Nissan Quest with 201,000 miles has recently started having some strange issues. The speedometer will suddenly drop to zero, and after a few seconds, come back up and work correctly. A couple of times, this was associated with the engine "chugging" and topping out at about 50 mph. If I stop, it will resume and run normally. I would love for this car to last me 2 more years.
View 4 RepliesSo the other day i hit something on the road and all of the sudden when im coasting in gear i hear a "thududududududd" noise from mid engine.. you cant hear it when the windows are down, only when they are up and it doesn't happen in neutral or when the clutch is pressed in. also after i shut the car off and turned it back on i had a CEL for the A range vehicle speed sensor which i replaced yesterday but still the speedo doesn't work and the gas gauge is moving around bends. when letting off the gas to shift the car stops almost like hitting the brakes and shifts kind of hard. It also backfires like a shot gun in 4th gear only. I recently had a stage 2 south bend clutch put in but everything was fine after that installation.
View 1 RepliesI have a 95 Honda Accord V6, the D4 light is flashing and the speedometer needle does not work. When in stop and go traffic, the needle bounces around and makes the car stall and downshift and rev up. I replaced the speed sensor with no change.
View 6 RepliesI am proud new owner of a 03 Mk4 Bora GLI. I have some issues that I could use a hand with. My symptoms are as follows:
1. Speedometer stopped working.
2. Fuel gauge goes on the fritz (rapidly declines) when parked on an incline or going around corners.
3. Cruise control does not work. "Cruise" light come on the dash but the set/reset button on the stalk does nothing.
Note: All fuses are in tact.
Most of the time my speedometer isn't working. my cruise control works the same way. i've read that it could be the cruise control module or the variable speed relay.
View 1 RepliesI just replaced the trans in my 02 sport trac and have no speedometer and ABS light is on now. I made sure all connections on trans were tight and I didn't mess with speedometer sensor seeing how it is on the rear diff on this truck. spent two weekends replacing this thing and am not at all happy with the results. By the way i did it all on my back. No vehicle lift or trans lift.

View 2 RepliesSpeedometer Going Crazy. 2002 Excursion, 5.4, Auto Transmission, 246800 miles. Put key in ignition and immediately noticed no odometer display. Put it in drive, Odometer began to register but SPEEDOMETER fluctuated wildly. Reading the posts as best as I could, I replaced the VSS sensor on Rear Diff, and no change in symptoms. I don't want to replace sensors just to replace them.
View 5 RepliesFor the past several months my 99 Camry has had a reoccurring issue. From time to time, with no predictability based on weather, speed, time of day, the speedometer goes to zero even when I'm pushing the gas. The check engine light then goes on and after a few seconds, the spedometer starts working again, though with the engine light still on. I have tried taking it to several repair shops and usually within a couple of blocks of the shop, the light turns off and I am told that since the light is off, the diagnostic will come back clean and nothing can be done. I am getting frustrated and concerned that my car is no longer safe to drive but I can not seem to get it fixed.
View 6 RepliesThe speedometer on my 2002 Hyundai Sonata usually works, until it doesn't. This happens most often on longer trips. The speedometer starts fluctuating between 0 and my current speed and eventually gives up entirely. I've asked several dealers what the problem might be, but they've all said they can't find anything (of course it's always working when I take it in.) When the speedometer is not working, neither is the odometer or the cruise control. What could it be?
View 1 RepliesI have a 2002 Grand Caravan, when foot is on brake, speedometer jumps all over, engine bucks so bad I have to put it in neutral or park at every red light. When I go forward, it jumps a little, and sometimes will not shift, engine revs up so bad, I have to pull over, shut engine off, turn it on and then it shifts. Speed sensors were supposedly replaced with the plug for them. It is at a dealership, they checked all the sensors, electrical wires, etc, and not it doesn't shift at all!! It is still there, now I have no van to drive. They claim they did nothing to it, it was shifting 90% of the time. It will not shift at all, even when I shut it off and re-start it. Now they claim it may need a new used tranny.
