Camry :: 2002 Solara - Oil Smell When Heater Is In Use

Jan 7, 2013

About a year ago after I got my oil changed I assumed they spilled oil when filling it at the shop. I actually had smoke coming through my vents at first. The smell has been there intermittently ever since but only when the heater is in use, not when AC is used. What could have been the cause? What should I check? Is there a cabin air filter that should be changed?

Camry :: 2002 Solara 3.0L - High Idle After Engine Swap

High Idle after engine swap. Just finished an engine swap, the motor is out of a 2000 solara. Started the car last night, and the rpms jumped to 4000. The only issue I had with the swap is some how I did not disconnect the two throttle cables, not sure how I missed that, but they did get stretched a little.

Camry :: 2002 Toyota Solara SLE - White Smoke At Start Up

I have a 2002 Toyota Solara SLE 6-cylinder 2-door coupe. 98,000 miles.

I have lots of white smoke at start up. Big time oil consumption. My wife drives car 14 mile round trip each day. Each night, I go out late and start car to burn off oil. There is no smoke in the morning when I do this.

People here have suggested the problem is valve stem seals. Not something I should try to fix myself. I did change the pcv valve.

I took car to mechanic. Told him it might be valve stems. He said he'd have to do the heads. Sounded like it would be expensive.

Camry :: 2002 Solara SLE V6 No Spark - Timing Belt Broken?

2002 Toyota Solara SLE v6 w/ 209k miles

Drove the car home from church yesterday, this morning went to start and wouldn't start..

Tested the Fuel Pump and that looks good.. Pulled a spark plug and did a spark test and I get no spark.

After reading up I get the sense it is either the Crank Angle Sensor or the Timing Belt snapped .. I don't know the last time the timing belt was changed, we got the vehicle @ 190k miles..

Does a no spark symptom sound like a timing belt that could have snapped? I believe these are non-interference engines so it should be ok..

When turning the car over the RPM gauges doesn't look like it is moving but wanted to see for a complete spark failure.

Civic - Honda :: 2002 - Horrid Smell Intermittently When Turn On The AC / Heater

We bought our 2002 Honda Civic new and have maintained it exactly as specified. Intermittently when we turn on the AC/heater we get a horrid smell, sometimes like dirty socks, sometimes like vomit, sometimes like damp basement. We recently had the cabin air filter changed. It doesn't happen every time we turn the AC/heater on, but enough that it can be very irritating!

Mitsubishi - Galant :: 2002 - Damp / Musty Smell Coming From AC And Heater Not Working

I've had my Galant since mid-May. I bought it in a rush as a replacement vehicle after a car accident. Soon after I noticed a damp/musty smell coming from the A/C. I read that changing the cabin air filter would fix the problem, but since the Galant doesn't have a cabin air filter, I had a dealer use a foaming cleaning agent that was supposed kill off any mold that may have been present in the A/C system, the cleaner seems to have fixed the damp smell.

Right before I had this done I noticed that the floorboards on the front passenger side were consistently damp. It's been that way for about a month, and the A/C continues to leak. Now I've noticed that for the past few days when I'm trying to defog the windshield on my morning commute, the heater is blowing cold air even thought the A/C is switched off. Are these these two problems related? Also, would I be able to repair them at home?

Toyota - Solara :: Hard Time Engaging The Clutch / Burning Smell Emitting In Car

My girlfriend has a 2001 Toyota Solara. I've been driving it, infrequently, for about 3 years, and while it's an older car, I never had any problems engaging the clutch. My girlfriend also did not have any issues with the car. I don't have a lot of experience with manual transmissions.

Recently, we let our friend use it for the day. I dropped the car off at his place and did not notice anything wrong with it. The next day, I got a call from my friend who said that the car was emitting a weird smell and that he was having a hard time engaging the clutch. By the end of the day, he could no longer engage the clutch and had to leave it on the side of the road.

We got it towed to a garage, and when they looked at it, they said the clutch was totally burned out. My friend insists that he has plenty of experience driving with a manual transmission and that there must have been a problem with the clutch before we gave him the car. Is this possible? It seems unlikely to me, as neither my girlfriend nor I had any problems with the car. It's not like we were struggling to engage the clutch- it was fine when I dropped it off, and then the next day it's totally burned out.

Camry :: 2002 V6 Burning Oil Smell From Under The Hood

Lately my 2002 v6 has been smelling like it's burning oil from under the hood. Around the front exhaust manifold, there's a wet black "powder" type substance. Oil levels are fine and the car has also been driving without any issues. The car hasn't overheated but then again, I live in NJ where the temperatures don't go above 35F.

I'll be posting a picture tomorrow.

The car has 144k and the timing belt, water pump, spark plugs were done at 120k.

Since then, I've noticed that I'm getting a gas smell in the cabin when the AC is turned on and when I turn the AC off and roll the windows down. No CEL is on, and I was able to pass emissions.

Camry :: 2002 Azura V6 Sound System Rebooting And Heater Fan Stop And Start

I have an intermittent electrical problem that I thought was the alternator but my mechanic says isn't. Every now and then the sound system will start rebooting and the heater fan may stop and start.

Normally voltage across the battery is about 13.8v or more. At times the car changes into the error state which continues until the car is restarted. It may then or may not re-enter the problem state.

When the car is in the state where the radio re-starts, the voltage across the battery drops to around 13.2v. The two big fans on the radiator start and stop according to the thermostatic control. It is this startup that causes the radio to restart etc. I got one flash on my multimeter of a drop to 12.8v across the battery on the start. This would be due to extra draw to start the fan motors and is usually too fast for my multimeter to react to.

Entering problem state might happen once a month. It seems more likely on long trips and is so intermittent it is hard to diagnose. Its start coincided with the replacement of the head unit with an after market one. I have checked repeatedly for loose wires behind that unit that are shorting out, now I am thinking it is somewhere in the charging circuit.

Camry :: 2002 V6 - ( P1135 Code) Air / Fuel Sensor Heater Circuit Response Malfunction

Just got a P1135 Code on the 1MZ-FE 2002 Camry.

My code reader pulls it up as (no typo below) : AirCFuel Sensor Heater Circuit Response Malfunction.

So I know it's a bad Air/Fuel sensor. Which one though? I replaced the rear sensor by the firewall about 6 months ago which fixed the check engine code (I don't remember the code). Would it make sense that the front one failed now or the back one failed again? Most of my research points me to a bad rear sensor however a lot of people also report that a code reader would report the sensor as "Bank 1 Sensor 1".

The rear sensor was replaced with a Denso 234-9042 Sensor.

I would play the replace and test game... however inspection is due within the month and after resetting the code, it usually takes about 50 miles to return. Being in college, 50 miles takes about 2 weeks.

Toyota - Solara :: 2002 - Overfilled Oil / Smoke From Exhaust

We purchased a car close to a year ago that at some point had the oil overfilled. We've had the engine cleaned out by the dealership and the car runs much better now but we still see smoke when the car is turned on and occasionally when it idles for more than a few minutes. Is this something that will just be an ongoing cycle or is there something else we should be having checked?

The car is a 2002 Toyota Solara, automatic, 120k miles.

Camry :: 2007 - Solara Wheel Size

I have a 2007 Toyota Solara SLE Convertible. Three of my wheels are bent due to hitting various potholes over the past year as well as hitting a curb. I want to replace these wheels with other wheels of the exact same size so that I can use the tires that I already have (since I just bought them) and so that they do not rub on any other part of the wheel well or hub. I have concluded that the size is 17" x 7", that they 5 lug nuts at 114.5 mm. However, I cannot determine how to measure the offset. I have read multiple threads about which offset they are (some say 45 and others say 50). I just need a definitive answer so that I can replace them seamlessly. Its a BUMPY ride right now.

1.Remove Dog Bone

2.Loosen right and left side motor mounts but dont remove the bolts.

3.Jack up the engine just enough to get a wrench on the hidden bolts on each side.

Am i missing anything?I already have the Mevotech control arms with new ball joints already attached.I plan on renting a ball joint removal tool from autozone.
