Camry :: 2002 LE Hesitates On Starting, Makes Spinning Noises
Sep 25, 2013
Background Info: 2002 Camry LE w/ 2.4L engine with approx 90,100 miles. Battery is approx 3 years old and is fully charged (used a trickle charger)
Yesterday I noticed the car was hesitant when I was starting the car. Every time I started the car it took longer to get the car started. Then today, I tried to start my car but all i got was a sound that sounded like something was spinning. There was no clicking, no sounds of the car trying to turn over. So I attached the charger to my car and it said it was good (plus the lights worked, the radio worked, windows rolled up and down).
So I used my breaker bar and hit the starter twice, went back in to the car and it started up, very hesitantly. Now my car will only start when i hit the starter first, otherwise it makes that spinning noise.

Just started happening today. 2004 Camry LE 4-cyl. About 180k on the clock. Not sure if started has ever been replaced.
RIght after I release the ignition from the "start" position, I hear a load grinding noise, sounds a lot like the noise a Zip Tie makes when being pulled. After a second or so, the noise ceases and the car runs normally.
I suspect the starter may not be disengaging quickly enough. If starter, do I need to replace it, or is there some component that can be replaced?

I am having issues with my 02 Nissan Sentra turning over when I am starting the car. First for some background my car has almost exactly 115k miles on it. I have noticed the problem is getting slowly worse and worse. What happens is when I turn the key the engine makes a slow grrrr and rev sound, then a slighty faster grrr and rev, followed by a faster one before it finally turns over. There have been instances before when I have have to give it a good two or three times before it would turn over at all. I am not sure what is causing the problem. I do have one idea is that recently my gas mileage has been going down so I added Techron from the auto shop before 2 of my last 3 fillups (I didn't on the last fill up since I was having the issues) Could that cause the problem? Other than that I am thinking maybe something with the battery (its a bit over 3 years old) or the spark plugs or fuel pump would be my best bet? I tried to take an audio recording of the issue but you have to really turn up the volume to hear the low lever grrr and revs before the car starts.

I am the original owner of a 2002 Camry V6. Recently when you take the foot off the gas to coast or just maintain speed there is a sensation of jerking- it disappears as soon as you accelerate. Took it to Toyota dealership- they were clueless- they wanted to change the transmission fluid.

I have a 2002 Camry LE V6 which I bought a month ago from its original owner. It has 140k miles on it. Timming belt and water pump were changed at 90k, car is in very good shape, clean engine.
It has a weird issue.
In the early morning, from my house to work around 7am, I have to drive around 20 mins on freeway , I exit and drive for another 5 mins on local street which is up and downhill, at red light or when I have to turn, the car begins to hesitate like hiccup and stall on me. The car cannot start again immediately, all power is still working, the car is trying its best to turn over but it fails. However after I wait couple mins, I can restart the car. Then, the car will run just fine, absolutely fine the rest of the day.
The weird thing here is, on days I don't have to work, I start to drive it at around 10am when it's warmer and there's sunshine, and not up and downhill, it never hesitates or stalls. Even I try to drive it up a big hill near my house at noon, nothing happens. So I'm not sure if driving up and downhill playing a part in this problem.
It doesn't happen all the time when I have to drive to work in early morning, up and downhill, but more than often. The car drives great on freeway, idle excellent around 500-600 RPM. One more detail, the gas pedal kind of vibrates (very small vibration) around 1600 RPM, and it's annoying. I'm not sure if it is relating to the issue.
Here what I did to the car:
1. Clean throttle body.
2. Clean Mass Airflow Sensor. Didn't work. Then I replaced it with a used OEM one.
3. Put Techron Additive in the gas tank.
4. Replace Air Filter.
None of the above works, but I think somehow it improves a tiny little bit.

My 09 LS w/ 65k on it wont start. last night i drove the car around to several places, and on my last stop of the day i couldnt get the car to start. finally after several tries, it fired right up. but today, no such luck.
All the lights come on (and I have charged my batery with a tender to be sure its not the battery), the steering wheel moves in to position, and I either get a click, or a buzzing sound.
Sounds like starter, any other opinions?

It has been raining, finally, in bay area, thats the good part. The scary part is that, today I was driving normal close to 15mph and took a left turn at a traffic light and the car spun out. This was the second time in couple of months. Both times it had rained for long periods, road was not water logged.
First time had spun out of control on right turn and second time on left turn. Tires are close to 30K old. Wheels aligned 6k back, rotated 1k back. And passenger side CV makes clicking noise occasionally. Do not remember, the CV making the noise around the time of spin out on both occasions.

Okay so I recently replace the rear shock absorbers and now every time I take a corner or when I'm going on a surface that's not flat or just if I go over a bump too quick. I here squeaking sounds I replace the shock absorber as well as the strut mount to no avail I've found the noise I've located location of the squeak if where coil meets the mount. I don't want to replace the coil it does look like it might need some replacing the protective metal sheet is gone on the top some of the bare metal is exposed but I would hate to replace the spring and have noise again
Car is a 2003 nissan maxima with 144k ....

Lately my Sienna makes this noise whenever it is started. The noise lasts for 5-10 seconds. It builds up very loud towards the end and then stops abruptly. I made a recording of the sound and have attached it.

I have an 05 GLI and it makes noises when it's off. I don't know what it is. It's a 4 second hum then kicks off.I don't know if it's a pump of some sort or what. Today when I opened my car door for the first time of the day it did it. My **new** battery dies a lot. I've always thought that I've just left stuff on because I am a ding dong.

Problem I'm having with my sunroof on my '10 GTI. The sunroof opens an inch and makes cracking/grinding noises. Then it needs a push on the actual glass while turning the nob in order to force it to close. And the tilt function ends up with one corner of the glass further down then the other. How to fix this problem or how to remove the headliner, or if it is worth bringing to the dealer? The dealer is the last thing i want to do because my warranty is up and those jerks charge an arm and a leg on labor alone.

I was working with a friend for his 2002 Camry with a 3.0 and while looking at it he said the front exhaust manifold was clogged (The dealer told him) So I change it and tried starting it and it sounded like it was going to start then nothing. He had a timing belt put on a year ago by a dealer and it has been sitting since January. Mean while the Mice have been making themselves home and I am wondering if they got into the timing cover and did something to the teeth on the belt to make it back fire. I just put new spark plugs in and it still back fired.. Or is it coil packs.. You definitely see gas on the old plugs and smell it to..

My 2004 CRV sometimes hesitates to start and twice now has stalled seconds after starting. When driving it feels as if it is dragging, like the brake is on or the car is in wrong gear (automatic). I just got a new battery a month ago. Mileage is 197K. I am told it could be the starter or alternator and that it will be costly. Could this be the problem or could it be something else?

I have a '96 Chevy Silverado that twice (in about as many months) has had some trouble starting. When I turn the key the engine starts to crank, then there is a loud pop and the engine stops. When I crank it again the engine will start, although more slowly than usual. What could be wrong?

I have a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer EXT V6 Votex that hesitates to start only after I put fuel in it. It doesn't matter if I fill it up or put in a couple of gallons. It's been going on for some time now, but is starting to get worse. My fuel pump went out before it started, but I had that replaced and the problem still persists. Someone tried replacing the solenoid switch but this did nothing. When I ask, people are telling me they haven't heard of that problem before. I have been to different gas stations just to conclude it wasn't bad fuel, but still the problem is there. I have 193,xxx miles but I'm not ready to let it go anytime soon. How I can get this resolved?

Been fighting a starting problem for months with a 1976 Corvette. Car starts fine on first try, but if I shut off the engine, it won't crank again for hours, usually overnight. All I get is a buzzer noise when I turn the key - no starting motor noises. This happens no matter how long the engine has run, be it 30 seconds or an hour, so I don't thing the starting motor is getting hot. Car has a new battery and alternator - that didn't solve anything. What to check or replace next? Starting motor? Solinoid? Ignition switch? By the way, the car has a manual transmission.

1996 ford explorer xlt 4.0. One day it worked fine the next day it would not start. When I turn the key there are no dash lights or exterior lights, nothing. There is also no crank over no noise of any kind. I checked all my fuses, I had one in my power distributer. It was for my premium sound, amplifier ect. I cant check the relays I don't have the correct tools. I was thinking maybe the pcm relay has gone bad? I tried jumping the car as well and nothing happened at all either.
