Camry :: 2002 - After Adding Power Steering Fluid Into Brake Reservoir Make Quick Stop While Letting Off Gas At 40?

May 5, 2011

2002 camry: my boyfriend just told me he accidentally added power steering fluid to the brake reservoir a couple monthes ago....while i floored it on highway, i only reached 40, when let off gas, car came to a quick stop. later i jacked up rear and was able to turn back tires to rule out e-brake being stuck, when car is in nuetral and pushed (forward or backward) it comes to a stop whithin a foot or so ( it seemed like the brakes were being depressed) possible transmission or brake issue?

Toyota - Camry :: Brake Fluid To Stop Power Steering Leak?

I had been driving around with gallons of ATF in my trunk for a year until I recently had the power steering pump changed on my 1996 Toyota Camry (which spent many winters sitting outside up in Canada), and now the leak seems worse. I brought it to my mechanic who wants $800 to change a leaky rack & pinion and a hose. But I am but a poor, unfortunate grad student and so I have no more money to put on this old, yet beloved car! So he suggested I put in a combination of ATF and brake fluid, which might slow down the leak. What say you? Will I ruin my newly acquired power steering pump or make matters worse?

Camry :: Power Steering In Reservoir Going Down - Fluid Leakage

So I've been noticing my power steering in the reservoir has been going down for quite some time. Now its more noticeable than ever. Just about a month ago I topped off the tank to the "max" line and now its at the "min" line. I also notice the fluid on the garage floor. I've always had a lot of grease (I assume the fluid) all around the body and under the reservoir under the hood. It seems to be leaking from the hose where it connects to the actual reservoir. Maybe the clamp is bad or something.

Camry :: 2007 - Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Is Little Low

My power steering fluid reservoir is a little low. Which type or brand of power steering fluid should I fill it up with?

I know that I should use Dextron III, but does the brand matter? Or can I mix the OEM fluid with an aftermarket fluid.

Camry :: 2003 V6 LE - Power Steering Reservoir Return Hose - Fluid Leakage

Just checked out at 2003 V6 LE with 120k miles for $5500. Car seems to be in excellent mechanical condition but I did notice quite a significant power steering fluid leak, seems to be coming from the reservoir. I see that there are two hoses for about $80 each listed on Partsgeek.

Is this a common problem, can the clamps just be tightened, Could it be the reservoir it's self or even the pump too high a pressure?

Seems to be quite a lot of fluid running down the side of the car but after taking it for a test drive I didn't see any signs of it squirting out so perhaps it's a slow leak and been leaking for a while.

Camry :: Master Cylinder Reservoir - Losing Brake Fluid From Right Side

I've got an o2 camry with 150K that seems to be losing brake fluid from the "right" side of the reservoir. Which brake lines are supplied by the "right" half of the master cylinder reservoir? I have read that they could be diagonally piped.

Chevrolet - Equinox :: 2005 - Make A Quick Stop Before Its Fully Warmed Up?

I read a similar post but no resolution. My '05 Equinox starts fine most of the time, but when I make a quick stop before its fully warmed up I have to slightly depress the accelerator to get it to start. Now I know with fuel injection this should't be happening but its been the case almost since the day I bought it. GM changed out the software in the computer and that seemed to work for a while, at least long enough for the warranty to end. It doesn't bother me but my wife wants the car now. What's up?

Celica :: 1994 / 2.2 - Power Steering Fluid Leaking From Reservoir Cap

I have a 94 Celica 2.2. I'm having issues with power steering fluid leaking from reservoir cap. I replaced the cap due to the old ones seal had dry rotted and dip stick was broke off, also replaced the 2 small short hoses and new clamps. The return hose is working right and the high pressure hose seems to be working right. None of the hoses are leaking but pressure is building up and pushing fluid out the reservoir cap. What else could be the problem to cause this??

Nissan - Maxima :: Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Is Almost Empty

I've a problem with my 2000 Nissan Maxima GLE. Recently I started hearing noise from Passenger side of the car, and I noticed that the Power Steering Fluid Reservoir is almost empty. Looking more closely, I see some kind of leak. Could this problem indicate something wrong with the Rack and Pinion or the Pump itself.

I went to autozone today, and bought a Power Steering Fluid with Stop Leak. I added the liquid, and turned Steering Wheel to the right and the left. After doing this, I checked the reservoir again, and I saw the reservoir level was very low again. I repeated the above steps until I reached the point where the reservoir level was to the high point.

I would drive for couple of days and see if the reservoir level goes down again which point to leak still existing. While waiting on this test, thinking what could have gone wrong here that is causing the Power Steering fluid to leak. I've also attached the picture which point to suspected point of leak.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2004 GLS Power Steering Fluid Leaked Out The Top Of Reservoir

I have an issue with my 2004 GLS 3.5 L w/ 68000 miles. After the SUV warms up for a few minutes I can hear a whine or rattle on the passenger side. I noticed a little power steering fluid leaked out the top of the reservoir (a few little bubbles in the oil). Then reading on the HMA website it says the filter in the reservoir can get clogged and restrict the flow. I took the reservoir off and flushed it out then replaced with new oil.

Unfortunately this did not fix the issue the noise is still there. It's most prevalent when you turn but the noise also picks up a little when you hit the gas. I have checked for hose leaks but cannot find one. My next step is to have the steering pump changed out. While the mechanics in there I am going to have him check the hoses/pulleys really close and look around for another leaks anywhere. Noise is annoying but the steering works fine.

Honda - Accord :: Power Steering Fluid Coming Out Of Reservoir When Car Is Shut Off

2000 Honda Accord. Power steering fluid is coming up and out of the reservoir when the car is shut off. I recently had to take the hose off and move it out of the way just to make it easier to replace the belt. Lost some fluid and put more back in. And now this. Also is whining when you turn the steering wheel. What do I do?

Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Brake Fluid Filter In Reservoir

In my brake fluid reservoir I have a little blue filter that looks like an upside down bottle cap. the bottom of it has a fine screen so as you pour fluid in it filters. Is this a standard feature or did the previous owner add this? Where I can get a replacement as this one has a hole in it. I accidentally got it with a screw driver.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Power Steering Fluid Boiling / Foaming Leaking Out At Reservoir Cap

2.7 Power Steering Fluid boiling/foaming leaking out a reservoir cap!

1) Recently had Timing Belt/Water Pump and spark plugs/wires replaced.
2) Issue started immediately after.
3) Removed most of old PS fluid, cleaned out reservoir w/brake cleaner. NOTE: nothing appeared to be clogging reservoir. Refilled with new PS fluid. Repeated these steps a second time. This appeared to immediately resolve the issues for several weeks.
4) Now the power steering is getting rough and noisy again. Also, the PS reservoir is leaking out of the cap worse than before. It looks like the fluid may be "boiling", but it is definitely foaming up pretty badly.

What my issue(s) may be?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Whine Noise Only When Turning Right - Power Steering Reservoir Leaks Fluid

I have a 2004 Santa Fe 3.5L with 85K miles. TB, WP and all belts changed at 75K. Have had this whine noise when I turn right, very high pitch noise. On top of this there is now Power Steering fluid leaking from the reservoir and base and brackets are full of fluid... Needless to say I assume it is the reservoir seals giving up but why the noise only when I turn right? No noise when I turn left.

What could it be? Also where can I find parts online that are cheaper than the stealership? I called them and they quoted me $72.00 for this piece of plastic!!

What else should I change? There is also some "oil/fluid" coming down a pressure hose but I believe this is due to the oil dripping from the reservoir...

Any manuals I could use to view this? I bought the Haynes manual and it's worthless!

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Hum Noise When Speed Reduced - Power Steering Fluid Leak From Reservoir

2005 Santa Fe (88K, 2.7 V6).

For a month or two, after the car got warmed up, I'd hear a whine/hum noise when I slowed to turn or reduced speed. The noise was much more noticeable when the car had been running at least 15-20 minutes, but I did occasionally hear it when the car was somewhat cool still. Never had a problem steering during this time, even with the noise... but I eventually figured out that slowing down and/or turning brought it on. So I took it to a mechanic.

They showed me bubbles coming from the power steering reservoir, and said I needed a new PS pump and pressure hose, along with a flush/new fluid. I paid for all of that.

Next day: The car would become hard to turn when I made a tight turn into a parking spot... again, not a constant thing, but only when turning to park and going slow. The noise APPEARED to be gone, but this new issue worried me so I took it back. They put a different pump on (no charge), thinking the other may have been defective.

Next Day: I hear the whine again on my way home from work. When I get home, I park, leave it running, and pop the hood. There's a fast drip bubbling from beneath the reservoir cap and running down to the pavement. First thing the next morning I return to mechanic. He says the first two pumps were the same brand and both "remanufactured" so he switches to a different brand -- this one brand new, not "remanufactured" -- and installs that one.

A half hour later, I get home. Hearing that same whine/hum, I lift the hood. Fluid is pouring out from beneath the cap in a steady, unbroken stream (not a drip, but a stream). So I took it back to the mechanic (who to his credit, has charged me nothing since the initial new pump installation). What could cause the power steering fluid to gush out from the reservoir cap when the car gets hot? I have a brand new pump and pressure hose. What could cause this condition..

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2010 - Power Steering Reservoir Is Constantly Losing Fluid

I have a 2010 F150 4.6 3V... The power steering reservoir is constantly losing fluid. I've purchased the truck, used, a few months ago, bought a warranty. The dealership has had it multiple times now and can't find the leak. They just keep replacing hoses and the problem keeps occurring. Also worth noting, the truck has 6" lift with 35s. I've have also pulled the radiator cap and found a decent amount of what looks to be sludge/oil inside. Dealership says it's probably just bad coolant.

Camry :: 07 2.4L - Power Steering Reservoir Empty

I lost my power steering on the way home from work today (40 mile commute). Stopped at a gas station half way. About 5 miles after noticing the problem. Lifted the hood and noticed fluid along the line towards the radiator. Reservoir was empty. So I added a quart just purchased from the station and noticed the fluid level immediately began to drop. Decided to finish commute home. Stopped after 10 more miles, reservoir was empty so I added another quart and finished the drive home.

My camry has 150k miles so I am not surprised. So I parked it at my house and looked under the hood/car, I definitely have one hose leaking in the engine area. It is the hose located near the radiator on the passenger side that comes from the reservoir. The "U" portion is metal and has corroded away. It spits fluid when the steering wheel is turned. The pump actually is pretty clean with no leaks from it.

But when I was underneath the car, there is a hose completely severed. Roughly 2inches of exposed hose before it disappears into a manufactured hole in the car floor with a rubber gasket around it to hold in place. Where this hose is supposed to connect too. It drips P/S fluid, but nothing changed when turning the steering wheel.
