I have a 98 chevy 2500 5.7l.Im not getting oil to my heads. My oil pressure is 50 drivin 30 @ idle. so pumps workin at least half workin. do they go like that? or they work or they don't? Any trick or a test to run b4 i pull the pan.
View 8 Replies1986 302 w/ 160k miles. Loses oil pressure at idle after driving approx 10 miles. Rev engine to about 1500 rpm and hold it there, pressure builds back up. Oil & filter change w/ 10W30 gives no improvement, oil & filter change w/ 20W50 cures problem for 100 miles, then the pressure starts dropping again. Oil pump problem or bad bearings? BTW, when pressure drops, I do not hear any lifter clatter.
View 14 RepliesI bought my GTI used and don't know what software its running but I have some questions about the boost pressure. When I'm in Idle the car will only boost to about 7-10psi when i rev the engine in neutral, But when I'm driving it will boost all the way to about 17-20psi if I really stomp it, 15psi if I'm just giving it a bit of "go". The car takes off and goes really quick, seems like it has a lot of power so I doubt there's a boost leak but I'm wondering does the car boost differently in Idle because it knows its not moving?
View 2 Replies2004 1500 5.3 low oil pressure after using Lucas engine stop leak. No pressure at idle just below 40 when driving. Replace the sending unit and pressure improved for about a day. Just had a manual pressure gauge hooked up and it shows the same as cluster. No engine noise at all. I was informed that using Seafoam or another solvent could loosen up build up and cause damage. Trying to find out if using an engine flush machine may support. I am assuming that the cause of the low oil pressure is due to build up from using several qt of the stop leak over a four months. I am the only owner and I have always changed the oil according to schedule and have always used Valvoline synthetic.
View 19 Replies2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, replaced the oil pump with a new one and washed oil pan and replace the pump screen. After driving for about 30 minutes when at an idle/low speed the oils pressure goes low enough to set the check engine light on. The motor sound good sometime there is a little clacker, oil sending unit replaced and have installed a mechanical gauge... What else will cause this?
View 18 RepliesJust acquired a 1990 celica gt at a steal lol and needing some troubleshooting answers. tonight was the first night we really had drove it, but my husband drove it to work which is an hour away and he noticed that when he comes to a stop the oil pressure light comes on. as soon as he starts to go again it goes off. the engine does not make any noises other than the typical 2200 lifter chatter and it does not leak oil.
We plan on doing an oil change so we are not sure if that could just be the issue or if it's something else. we had this issue with a dodge ram we had and it ended up being the oil pressure sending unit. he took the one off the car and it did need some tightening up but however when he put it back on the issue was still there.
We do not believe it's any low compression as the car cranks fine and normal with no rising of the cranking as you would get for a cylinder with low compression. we aren't really sure about the bearings because well that's not one of those things easily tested but the engine doesn't make a noise which I know at times you won't have one.
I have a '95 Deville 4.9L and I recently started to get a low oil pressure warning at idle. It does leak a little oil but I try to keep up with it and I change the oil frequently. I replaced the oil pressure switch and the problem persists. I'm not positive, but I think I may have put 5W30 in last time I changed the oil, could that be too light? Should I try replacing it with 10W30?
I haven't tested the pressure yet but that oil pressure switch was a real pain to get out (and on) is there a trick to it? I've got a pressure gauge, that would be where I'd connect it, right? In hindsight I should have done that while I was replacing it. It runs great, no engine noise or smoke.
I have a 6 cylinder '99 Ford E150 and though it has plenty of oil, the oil pressure gauge drops and the idiot light comes on whenever it stops and comes to idle. Pressure seems fine when driving but dips at a stop lights etc..
View 6 RepliesI have a 2003 golf gti 1.8th awp with 160k miles. I was due for a change so I grab castrol edge 0w40 the euro formula like I normally do but the stp filter was on sale with it so i used that. a week later the low oil pressure light comes on when the cars fully warmed up but only at idle I can review it above 1000 and it'll go away. I decided to change the pressure sensor sense it's cheap and easy nothing. I also went to a Bosch filter which I had before same thing light comes on only at idle.
So I decided to drop the pan and clean the pick up there was some crap in it wasn't to over clogged. I did little notice plastic piece surgery in the pan but when I first got the car the dipstick was deteriorating and I know a few little prices fell in there. Also noticing a fairly clean looking motor and oil pump so I don't think sludge is a issue. Anyway I decided to try mobile 1 0w40 euro formula and I read k&ns 3001 filter is a good oversized filter. Anyway light still comes on only at idle, what next?
Addition info the the car it's a stage 2 apr tune with euros ports pcv hoses turbo inlet pipe 42dd's catless exhaust recently had a leak in radiator so replaced that and the fuel pump went out within the last month or two
I Have a 2000 Passat 30 valve v6. I got a low oil pressure message figured I could make it to the store for some oil. Well I turn a corner and heard a valve rattle and the car started to idle rough. I was two quarts low but the noise and the rough idle still exist. In neutral the noise is not noticeable. Driving the noise is only noticeable at high RPM. The car doesn't smoke and otherwise runs fine.

I was wondering if low and hi side pressures should be taken at idle with front and rear on max or with the idle around say 1500rpm? I have a 134a pressure chart and it says that at outside of 85 degrees it should read 45 and 255 approx.

Also changed IAC, but with a used one from a previously working car.
I have now had the first major issue with my 2012 Santa Fe 3.5L AWD. It started out with an intermittent low oil pressure light coming on at idle. As I researched I found the Oil Pressure Switch thread:

And using that information I proceeded to replace the switch and while the switch had obviously failed unfortunately that didn't fix the problem. I tore everything down a second time to make sure the replacement switch hadn't failed and to make sure it wasn't leaking. Turns out that everything looked good yet the oil pressure light was still coming on after everything was warmed up.
Tonight I tore everything down for a third time to put an extension hose on the oil pressure port so I could hook up a mechanical pressure gauge in addition to the oil switch. While I am very pleased with how the extension hose worked out, however it appears that I do indeed have low oil pressure. Without letting it warm up completely I was dropping down below 15psi.
I guess at this point my best case scenario is a malfunctioning oil pump and worst case is worn bearings. With only 67k miles and fairly religious oil changes I am praying for the oil pump. My next step is to contact the dealer as I am still under the powertrain warranty, hopefully that goes well. I will try to keep this thread updated as I learn more. Up to this point I have really enjoyed the Santa Fe and have had minimal issues with it.
I am having a problem with my car today. When I started it today while going home from work I noticed that it's idling a bit rough. Then i noticed that the pressure is going under -0.8 bar. Golf 4 1.8t boost going under 20 hg at idle. While driving it is normal but when i slow down it hesitates like it's gonna turn off and the pressure goes less than -1 bar .. What the problem may be ?

Ever so often he hears a brief pssst . I haven't heard it but from his description it sounds like a brief release of pressure . It does it at idle & also while driving down the road . As far as he can tell there is no rhyme or reason to it . What it might be ?
View 3 RepliesI was driving home last night and when I stopped at a light in town, I notice the oil pressure dropped and the light came on. So I pulled over and put in park to check my oil. As I put in park the pressure went back up. I dropped it back into gear and it went back down. What could be causing this? I check my oil and it was full. I also notice when I put it in gear and speed up the pressure goes back up and stays there till I slow down again.
View 8 Replies2003 6.0 diesel with 200,000 miles runs good start easy but does not show oil pressure at idle (intermittent problem that has been occurring more often). It has ford oil filters and ford oil with about 3500 miles on the oil. The check gage will come on and the oil pressure drops out if you give it some throttle it comes back but will drop out again at idle. But like I said the truck runs perfectly fine and the icp shows pressure all the time.
View 6 RepliesI bought a 2002 f150 4x4 with a 4.6l. It has 250k miles on it. a couple days ago. It had no problems at all during the test drive or for the 150 miles home. Yesterday after it warmed up, the oil pressure dropped to 0 while at a red light and had a rattling noise. Not a knock but more of a rattle. I can't isolate where the rattle is coming from. Oil pressure comes back with just the slightest of increase Of RPM and seems To have plenty of power while driving. I had read to check the pressure manually but with the noise I sense there truly is a problem. the oil appears clear and is full. What I should be checking on this.
