What the gear ratio is from factory?

View 8 Repliesi have a 1991 silverado k2500 with the 454 big-block in it as i was driving home yesterday getting on the high way the truck just died completely without warning i looked down because i smelled something like burning wires and there was allot of smoke coming from under the dash where the steering column is when i go to start it all it dose is crank and crank never fires up it has no spark at all ?
View 4 RepliesI had the transmission rebuilt a year and a half ago, when I took it in it came up 4th gear incorrect ratio. The guy who rebuilt it said it wasn't the original tranny that came with the car because it was modified to fit in the car. When I got it back, after a couple hundred miles or so, the check engine light would come on for a day or two then go off. When the check engine was on it would get stuck in 3rd gear, once the light went off all was well until the next time. I took it back to the guy who rebuilt it since it was still under warranty. the P1529 code came up for TCM issue. He put some sensors and a chip in and thought it fixed it, no such luck. Finally I had the cash and had it looked at by another shop and the 4th gear incorrect ratio came up as well as the P1529 TCM code. He's suggestion to fix it was to either get a used tranny or rebuild this one again. He believes since it isn't the original tranny that the tranny in there now was for a SOHC engine, not a DOHC engine and that's why the ratio in 4th gear is off and it throws the TCM code.
View 6 RepliesI got burned with a smoker back in the mid 1980's and have been hesitant to come back. I am currently pulling my 5er and my enclosed gooseneck with a 6.2 gasser SRW. It has the 3.73 gears in it...not the best for towing.
I am thinking about ordering a new SD DRW 2wd with the 6.7 PSD.
Both my trailers are rated at 18000 GVW, what would be the best ratio to order? 3.73's?? 3.55? Fuel mileage will be what it will be with what ever ratio I go with. The truck will be mainly a puller. Not a daily driver.
So I got around and decided to fix my transmission my self. Any way I got the code PO734 from my CE light which is gear 4 incorrect ratio. So some people say its the solenoids that cause this issue, some say its the 4th gear clutch...
So, Is it the solenoid or it could be the clutch itself? Ive removed the 4th gear from my transmission today and it looks intact. No weird damage or physical like damage on it... I just don't know which to do since solenoid job i can do myself which will be about 5 hours minimum....
I have a 06 f150 and about a month ago I purchased an edge evolution. Twice in the past 3 weeks my o/d light starts flashing and my truck beeps and it shows Trans Fault on the trucks display. When I use the edge to check the DTC it comes back as P0731. I am running the canned level 3 tune no changes and trucks completely stock other then the edge. Also both times I have been going about 10 mph down a hill without giving it any gas. Also both times of shut the truck off and let it sit for a bit to make sure I wasn't going to break something.
View 14 RepliesI just purchased a used 2010 fx2 screw with 5.4 and 6-speed auto. How can I find out what rear gear ratio the truck has? do I have to contact a dealer to find this out or are their any web based sites that can decode the vin? Is the gear ratio marked on the truck anywhere?
View 2 RepliesNever been on a forum but I've got a 1977 ford f150 with a 400,c6 trans currently with 3.50 gears and 26.5 overall dia tires. if I was to put 34.5 inch tires and 4.56s would it drive like it does now, same speeds and rpms in all three gears and it shouldn't chug more gas than it already does... right?
If im reasking a question post link haven't found one.
Just picked up a 2002 golf 2.0 auto for $200. Get the car home start it up and it runs great but... transmission shifts all kinds of funky. Starts in first then shifts to third. If I give it some gas it shifts down to second but has nothing there, just revs. Will not go into 4th at all. Throw my little mac scanner on it some codes come up. Only one that mattered was p0277 if I remember. Do a little search and it comes up as the g68 under the tranny mount. Change that out and had not cel. Still shifting the same but no code at all. Throw my scanner on just to see and get p0730 incorrect gear ratio.
View 2 RepliesLooking at an '05 F-150 XL this afternoon with a 5.4 and factory tow package. Is there a way to ascertain the gear ratio and the presence of a T-Lok diff without crawling under the truck? Vehicle has 100,000 miles. Anything I should check out in particular?
View 2 RepliesBought a Mk4 1.8T gti last year had only about 75,000 on it and drove it for about 10,000 miles. The check engine light went on about 2 months ago and the code read 3rd gear incorrect ratio. It still rode fine until about a week ago when it started slipping. Brought it to the local transmission guys in my town and got a quote at about $3,000-$3,500 to have the transmission rebuilt. The transmission is a tiptronic automatic 6-speed.
View 1 RepliesWas doing some errands this morning and on the way home the transmission shifted a little strangely into 2nd. I had to let off the throttle for it to shift.
Fluid levels are correct and not burnt with no residue floating with a pinkish red color. Using Schaeffer's All-Trans Supreme.
I have read all of the threads related to the P0732 and the mechanical diode issue. Does the e99 4R100 have the mechanical diode? If not, what else could it be?
I also have the P0500 VSS sensor circuit fault which an old Ford mechanic stated could be related to a bad fuel sending unit which is definitely bad on this truck.
Am planning to go out and clean the sensor on the differential. Speedometer is working properly. I have also noticed what appeared to be a small slip when in reverse a couple of times that I initially attributed to tire spin. Is any of this related? Should I be prepared to rebuild/replace the transmission?
I have a 2013 F450 Platinum and I love it. I would really like to get my gear ratio closer to 3.73 for fuel economy. Have not been able to find replacement ring and pinions to go to 3.73, so my only other option is to do it through changing tire size. I have 4.30 gears and based on what I have found, 37 inch tires will get me really close to the 3.73 ratio. I want to keep my truck as close to factory as possible, but I do want to do a leveling kit.
So can I fit 35x12.50x17 Toyo MT under my truck with just a leveling kit and use the stock rims? If not, what are my other options?
I have seen the option to swap to 22" shaved Alcoa's, but don't really want to go through all of the spacer/adapter stuff.
I have a 99 f250 with some procomp (325s) that are 12.5 wide with a 6in lift my superchip tuner can change the trannys shift points but I am pretty sure a new gear ratio is needed. I dont do a whole lot of off roading with it its mainly my driving around and highway rig whats a good gear ratio that would work for me
View 9 RepliesHave a 2003 F350 srw 4x4, 107,000 miles on it. Driving it last night tow/haul light started flashing, hooked up AE got a P0730 Incorrect gear ratio. Truck seem to do ok, cut it off went back out a little while later and the tow/haul didn't flash.... Only issues I've had is when shifting from P to R, it takes a second or two longer than it should and shifts hard when it does but it doesn't do it every time.
View 1 RepliesI have a 3 spee Od out of a 1985 F-150 2wd . I was wanting to put it behind a Onan 6AT diesel . The engine came out of a P-350 bread truck . I runs great . I was wanting to know what the gear ratios are on the transmission . The engine has about 135 ftlbs of torque . The tranny was behind a 300 6 cyl . Iam trying to find out if this tranny will work or will I have to go to a N<!-- -->WC or TKO 5 speed .
View 6 RepliesA friend has a 1993 4x4 Z71 automatic that has lost 2nd gear. He has drained the fluid and it does not smell burnt and color is fine. He does notice what seems like dust in it but it has no texture when try to feel the dust. The fluid did seem to have some sludge like gunk in bottom of container He drained it into.
View 1 RepliesSo I kept getting a IAC code on my 94 k2500 with a 5.7L. So I ended up doing a reset for the sensor. I connected a jumper from terminal a to b on the diagnostic connector. I then turned the key to the on position but didn't start it. Waited 30 sec then unplugged the IAC. I then started the engine and attempted to adjust my idle. According to the procedure I read about your supposed to set the idle down to 600 rpms and then shut the engine off re plug in the sensor etc. But the problem that arises is when I try to do this literally the lowest I can get the rpms is 1600. I turn the idle screw until it damn near is out and I still can't get it any lower... So...something isn't right.
View 4 RepliesI have an 05 Silverado with the 5.3 (260K Miles) that has developed a weird noise. You hear it most at idle------I think there at higher RPMs but the other sounds mask it.
It sounds like a squeaky fan belt or belt or pulley, but I started it with all the belts off, and its still there. Crawling underneath, it seems to be coming from near the flywheel?? Noise is the same in park or in gear.
Noise is there at start up and when hot. Noise went away for about 1000 miles after changing the oil, but them came back. Truck runs, shifts, and drives great, with no other issues.
I have a 1996 Silverado and it will not shift out of first gear. I have had the pickup for about 6 months and when I got it, it would shift if I accelerated to about 30 and let off but then I went though some mud and got stuck, I kept shifting from reverse to forward and I got out of the mud and it would not come out of first but reverse works fine and it will not shift manually at all the pickup has a 4l60e transmission.
View 5 RepliesI have a 98 Chevy truck with a 4L60E. It has no second gear. I was sitting in park for about 10 minutes with the engine running, then put it in drive and it never shifted into second. It felt like it went straight to 3rd. I played with it manually until I figured out I had reverse, 1st, 3rd, 4th and torque converter lockup, just no second gear. My acceleration rate was medium and when I reach about 27-28 mph it would shift from 1st into 3rd. It has 230K on it so I rebuilt it with all the typical parts - frictions, steels, band, sun shell etc., still no second. I then pulled the pan back off and replaced the spacer plate and put in a shift kit. While I had it down I put a corvette servo in and did an air check. It worked fine. I could feel the band tighten.
Both the 1-2 and 2-3 solenoids checked good at 23 ohms. I swapped their positions to see if it would make a difference. I also checked to make sure the 1-2 accumulator piston wasn't stuck in its bore, the spring was new from the shift kit. It was fine. Put it back together...still no second gear. When I originally pulled the pan off for the rebuild, the pan was free of any debris and was very clean. I then drove it a couple of miles to a local transmission shop. They put their scan tool on it and drove it around the block. There were no codes and the ECM was calling for second gear. It doesn't sound mechanical since almost all the parts have been replaced, rebuilt or inspected that affect the 1-2 shift. It sounds electrical. Is there anything I have missed?
