Bmw - X5 :: 2009 - Pings Going Up A Hill In Sixth Gear

Jun 2, 2012

I have a 2009 x5. 29k miles. The car pings going up a hill in sixth gear. I know sixth is not strong enough, I downshift to fifth gear and it does not ping. The car has a three liter engine. In the past, other cars would just wait for me to downshift automatically or manually using the steptronic transmission. Is the timing off? Or is this normal?

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Car Won't Go Into Sixth Gear At All

I bought my first vw about a month ago. It's a 2003 GTI 1.8t with what I THOUGHT had a 6 speed transmission in it when I bought it. I hate to admit it, but when I test drove it, I never had a chance to put it into 6th gear.

Anyways, I replaced the shift lever, and shift cable (bad Bushings on cable and you can't just buy the Bushings) because it was hard to get it onto 1st gear without pulling the boot up, and pushing that metal part down. (I don't know the actual part name). Anyways it shifts great now that I have the cables adjusted however it will not go into sixth no matter what I do.

This leads me to think that maybe someone put a 6 speed knob on a 5 speed lever. However, the wear on the knob is exactly the same as the wear on the steering wheel. The guy at the local dealership told me he sold me parts for a 5 speed shifter box and that the 6 speed linkage is completely different and I 100% have the 5 speed trans.

Lincoln - Towncar :: Slippery Transmission When It Comes To A Very Little Hill Not Taking The Gear

Recently did Transmission rebuild soon after noticed that it's slippery. When I start the car in the morning it's not rolling as it should. I let it worm little like 3minutes then start driving but still it's slippery when it comes to a very little hill not taking the gear. After driving on the straight road for 4-5 blocks then its fine no problem at all. Only when car gets cold this issue happen.

Passat (B5) :: 1999 - After Driving Up A Hill Car Seems To Have Difficulties Shifting Into Next Gear On Its Own

My passat is a 1.8t automatic with roughly 170k on it and lately i have been encountering some issues with the tranny. I have had this problem for a while and as of late it seems to be getting worse (especially with the AC on????). After driving up a hill the car seems to have difficulties shifting into the next gear on its own, typically 2nd to 3rd but sometimes 1st to 2nd, sometimes I even have to switch over to the triptronic and up shift manually.

Also when i am driving along in 4th or 5th and encounter a hill the car doesn't want to downshift on its own without giving it some pedal play, or sometimes I have to play the same game and switch over to the triptronic and downshift manually (hoping to save to tourqe converter). I dont know much about the tranny on this car, but i do know that their not cheap!

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: How To Disable Hill Assist

It sucks when you're backing up a hill to hitch up a trailer and the hill assist is working....you give it light throttle and it doesn't want to move right away....then it lurches back when it finally releases. Is there a way to shut it off?

Nissan - Sentra :: 2003 - Burning Smell When Started Up A Very Steep Hill And Went Into 1st Gear

My 2003 Nissan Sentra was doing fine a few days ago until I started up a very steep hill and went into 1st gear. There was a burning smell for about 2 blocks so I shifted to 2nd gear. The smell went away. When I was in 1st gear it did not sound or feel like I was trying to go too fast for the gear. I just smelled the burning. Same hill in 2nd, no smell. How much should I worry?

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Turbo Shuddering While Lugging Up The Hill At Low Rpm In 6th Gear

Just bought my 2013 Platinum 350 DRW 2 weeks ago. 9,000 miles on it. I was cruising along yesterday at around 45 mph in 6th gear going up a slight incline. Truck was fairly low rpm don't remember what exactly. As I'm going up this hill it begins to shudder quite a bit almost seemed like the turbo shuddering while lugging up the hill at a low rpm in 6th. I stepped into the throttle to get it to downshift into 5th and it stopped. I never experienced anything remotely like this in my 2011 6.7.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 - Slip Or Grinding Noise When Go Up A Hill And It Downshifts Into 3rd Gear

Ok I have been trying to find out what is going on with my truck and I cant seem to find anything on here that points to all the symptoms I am having. I have a 05 xlt 4x4 with 5.4. For the last 5 months or so I have been noticing a slip or grinding noise when I go up a hill and it downshifts into I believe 3rd gear. It sounds like going over rumble strips on the road but only lasts a second. It also does it sometimes when I pull out from a stop.Also when I let off gas or brake to a stop it seems to shudder a bit.

Maybe its my imagination since I keep hearing for the grinding sound, I don't know anymore.Its driving me nuts(er). It doesn't do it all the time either.It has only 65,000 miles on it and never towed. I know I am due for a total tranny flush since it never had one. Could this be the whole problem? Iv been reading other stories that sound close to mine but they never mentioned about the noise when pulling out. Could it be the rear end? I am totally lost on this one.Other then that problem it runs great. Shifts nice.

Nissan - Sentra :: 2009 CVT Transmission - Engine Would Lose Power While Going Up A Hill

I own a 2009 Nissan Sentra with a CVT transmission. It has about 65,000 miles. During the warmer months, my wife and I have both experienced times while driving (usually for more than 2 hours) when the engine would lose power while going up a hill. After doing some reading we learned that this was common in Sentra and Rogue models with CVT transmissions. Apparently the transmission fluid heats up, boils, and foams. The foam triggers a sensor that cuts power to the engine. Once the fluid's temperature decreases the car performs as it should.

We have visited the dealership and even have a case number with Nissan consumer affairs. After many appointments and phone calls, the only action taken was decreasing the level of transmission fluid. This action was approved by Nissan. This has worked a little but the issue still occasionally persists. For the record, neither my wife nor I are expecting this to drive like a race car. We'd just like it work correctly. I know Nissan has extended the warranty on this and many CVT transmissions.

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Hill Descent Control Fault / Service AdvanceTrac Warning On Dash

Well when it rains it pours. As I was picking up my truck from the dealer for the brake master cylinder issue I noticed some faults come up on the display as I got into my truck. It was a Hill Descent Control Fault and a Service AdvanceTrac warnings on the dash. I told the service write about them and had already cleared them thinking it was a fluke alert from the servicing they did. Well they have come back in and after some searching I hear that when we get these alerts the solution was Ford having to replace the entire steering rack??!!

Ford - Explorer :: 2002 4WD Won't Accelerate / Pings And Not Go Over 40

I have a 2002 for explorer 4wd 4.0 it won't accelerate. it's fine to 25, but it pings, and won't go over 40. I've changed to the plugs, wires, coil pack and fuel filter. I've also checked the fuel pressure, and it's 65psi. no codes are being set. I've been told plugged cat, but they're welded on, and no way to test them...

Honda - Accord :: 1994 - Pings In Low Speed Acceleration

I test-drove a 1994 Honda Accord with 140K today. Looking for reliable car for relative, and this was one of the better options, on paper at least, in the price range.It drove like a used car, but I was concerned about one thing: A ping when accelerating from low speed. It didn't do it constantly, but only when going from a standstill or slowdown back up to speed. The seller said he'd been told it was an issue with the catalytic converter. I've been told that a higher octane fuel will sometimes quell a ping in an engine with no knock sensor.Is this something I should be worried about? Is the high-octane rumor true? The car was otherwise very nicely maintained.

Phaeton :: Engine Noisy (Little Pings And Pangs For Several Minutes) After Turning Car Off

I've noticed this more on the Phaeton than the last two cars I have owned. When the car is warm and I arrive at my destination and turn the engine off, the engine makes a lot of little pings and pangs for several minutes. Don't know how better to describe the sound. Does this mean anything? Normal?

Mazda :: 1988 B2200 Engine Pings Shortly After Get In And Drive It When Car Is Warming Up

The engine "pings" shortly after I get in and drive it when the car is warming up. I watch the engine temp rise...and when it starts to get warm just before the thermostat opens and the temp drops the car "ping or pre-detonate" when the accelerator is gently pressed. After the engine warms up... no problems. I drove it from Port Angeles Wa to southern Oregon with out it ever happening... but when I drive a short distance to town it consistently happens. I have checked what I know how to but beyond that it seems odd. Its it normal for the engine temp to rise up warmer than the normal operating temp, and then drop back down? The thermostat was recently replaced. It seems something is creating excess vacuumduring the warmup time that makes the engine ping. All the vacuum gizmos and gadgets make me crazy...

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: F250 Pings Bad Under Load - Hesitation / Surging And Crappy Fuel Economy

2 wks ago I was running down I95 at about 95-100 mph (basically floored) in a rush to get somewhere on time. Since then my truck has been running for crap. It threw the p0171 code when I checked it. When driving under normal conditions it pings a lot and my mpg is down about 3 mpg and has this hesitation when you get on it. Even when you accelerate at a normal rate it surges a little, it pings a lot and has a loss of power, about 30-40%. It feels really sluggish and doesnt want to pull and then you will feel it starting to pull a little harder then it starts to surge/hesitate a little again.

Truck has 147k on it. I was having a similar situation until I had the plugs replaced at 125k, so I figured the plugs shouldn't be the problem. So I replaced the fuel and air filters, cleaned the maf w/maf cleaner and Throttle body w/tb cleaner and replaced the pcv with a new one from ford. Still pings bad under load and still has the hesitation/surging and crappy fuel economy. Its running smoother but no fix yet. This is crazy trying to pinpoint this issue. The detonating isnt crappy gas because I used super and it still detonates quite a bit.

Its a 06' F250 5.4 3V XLT Lariat SC FX4....

Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2009 - 4th Gear Intermittent Slip At 88K Miles

Started a while back and comes and goes. Only commonality I have found is the truck needs to be warmed up for it to happen and usually after a few hours of driving. The downshift from 5th or 6th into fourth, at times, produces anywhere from a light to violent clunk, feels like a typical tranny slip. It will do it while in cruise and it will do it if I don't have the cruise on. Can't figure out if it is going to be a tune issue or hardware.

It does it only downshifting into 4th from 5th or 6th, no other downshifting is a problem and usually the 6th to 4th produces the worst results. At highway speeds that is usually a shift from around 2Krpm to just over 3K rpm (6th to 4th) if it is from 5th it is about 2500 to 3K. Start from a stop and go WOT and there are no issues.

Having it in Tow/Haul or not makes no difference as far as I can tell. IT can do it on one hill and the next time be just fine or do it 2-3 hills in a row. After this last trip it will do it at 9K feet or at 60 feet elevation, didn't make a difference there either.

Another issue that may be hurting the computer is the truck originally came with the 235 tires, it now has 285's and the rear is only 3.31. I plan on going with 265's and maybe still a gear change to 3.73's in the future. I usually only notice this on long trips, first was a 1500mile hauling an ATV, second was last week during a 2500 mile empty. Although I have had it do it a few times locally. I figure those bigger tires can't be good especially with that high of a rear for the management system.

Camry :: 2009 LE Rough Idle When In Gear

I just bought a 2009 Camry LE (4 cylinder) about a week ago. It's only got 10K miles on it. Ever since I got the car, I've noticed a very slight vibration when stopped and in gear. It does this when the engine is cold and warm. It only does this when I am in gear with my foot on the brake and stopped. I still have warranty, should I bring it in to the dealer? Is there a simple fix for this? Or is this normal?
