I have a 2001 530i BMW experiencing an overheating problem. I replaced hoses, radiator, thermostat, water pump, alternator, both belts all of which went fine. However still loosing anti-freeze, it seems to be coming from under the intake manifold. Looking for step by step instructions on removing it to get to the problem?

View 7 RepliesI gave my daughter my 2007 Malibu Maxx in 2010. It had at the time around 70,000 miles. Then the problems with the cooling system antifreeze leaks. We've replaced the radiator 9/2011. Drove ok for awhile then developed a leak again spring 2012. Chevy dealer in 4/2012 says wed need a new coolant tank. Replaced that no problems until 10/2012. Leaks again then Chevy dealer says we need a new water pump. Replaced that item.
Guess what here we are in Feb of 2013 and we have another leak. Back to the dealer and they say that a radiator cap located midway down the radiator was broken apart and they replaced that. All procedures done by dealers have included a pressure check save for when the radiator was replaced. So here we are at March 1, 2013 three days after the last repair and radiator fluid is leaking from the right front of the car again. What could possibly be the problem???
Is it possible to use so much coolant system stop leak that you could clog the transmission cooling system?The fluid is burned and seems like I am having problems with gear shifting and power from the transmission. 2003 Olds Silhouette...
View 1 RepliesI have a '98 Volvo V70 that has a slow leak in the cooling system. I have brought it to my indie Volvo mechanic several times and they keep trying new things - they've replaced the thermostat, all the hoses, overflow tank, and this last time used Stop Leak in case I have a bad head gasket. I'm 4 visits and $1600 into this repair, and it's still leaking. Now they're saying it must be the head gasket and it will be $3000 to fix. What do I do???? How do I know it will fix the car and when do I ask for my money back? When do guarantees come into play? Is the car worth it? It's worth nothing with a leak, so I'm stuck in this corner.
View 7 RepliesThis problem is from last winter. 95 Jeep Cherokee. After about -10 it just doesn't produce much heat. Heater fan works fine. Jeep runs plenty warm..but what i neglected to mention and or forgot to consider is... I have a tiny leak in the cooling system somewhere. I added just a small amount of coolant a couple of times over the summer and have witnessed a small amount of steam (not lately for whatever reason) coming from the front of engine compartment. I can't find the leak. My question is :Could this cause enough loss of pressure to affect the cabin heating system.....

View 5 RepliesI borrowed a friends 2000 Excursion with the Triton V10, along with his 3300lb, 28' trailer to tow a car from Ashland, OR to Reno, NV to begin a restoration project. His Excursion has 175,000 miles on it and made the trip down flawlessly, but as they say, "No good deed goes unpunished." When attempting to return last Sunday, had to turn around due to overheating problems. Analysis at a local automotive shop concluded a bad radiator cap. Attempted the return trip Tuesday and the same thing happened (only got farther due to the new cap and ability to hold pressure longer).
Finally got into a Ford dealer and have been informed that the truck has a bad head gasket causing pressure to leak into the cooling system. They suggest replacement of with a remanufactureded engine as opposed to replacing head gaskets, due to the time on the entire engine (who knows what else might be bad?). The vehicle can be driven around town for miles with no problems. But put that heavy load on it and grades and it spews out nearly "all" of the coolant.
I have a 2003 Dodge Neon and recently had transmission work done on the car. When I got the car back the radiator cap was left loose, I didn't know this until I took the car for a drive and it overheated. I let the car cool down, replaced the coolant, and made sure the cap was sealed down. The car now has a slow coolant leak, when I turn the car off I can see it drip underneath for about 2 minutes and then it stops. Also, after the car heats up to running temperature I get a burning rubber smell coming through the vents. What could this be? The car only has 70,000 miles on it and I would like to keep it going if I can.
View 6 RepliesTurns out I've lost nearly all of the coolant from my secondary cooling system and am trying to diagnose the problem.
Things I noticed:
-All of the hoses appear to be in good condition.
-Coolant is dripping from the center of the engine bay.
-After inspecting the turbo area, it appears the valley below the turbo is wet.
The intake manifold is still on the truck, so I haven't been able to get a better look. Is there anything else near the area I am describing that has coolant? My guess is the turbo water inlet?

My truck is losing antifreeze. It seems to push it out over flow jug. I have changed thermostats. This work for temp but not problem. From what I have found this engine is reliable. 2005 Chevy Duramax....

I was recently told by a mechanic that my head gasket needed to be replaced and was the cause of the water reservoir losing antifreeze and constantly needing to be added even though there were no traces of leakage.
View 9 RepliesHave a 99 F250 V10 was having issues with it going in limp mode took it to the shop they said number 1 cylinder running hot I had the head rebuild all new gaskets less than 10 miles truck shuts off pullover no antifreeze put antifreeze and water in Reservoir start back up look at Reservoir it's empty shut it off pour more water in Reservoir and it go straight down to empty.
View 6 RepliesTwo weeks ago a large, industrial truck dropped a piece of bent steel pipe on the interstate in front of my 2010, 50k miles, Prius and (sadly) I was forced to hit or swerve into rush hour traffic and cause an accident. It tore up a good part of the cooling system and did some body damage. Of course I didn't know this at the time, but it began to overheat, so I pulled off the freeway and had it towed to a body shop. After about ten days, I got my Prius back.

Heater core? Freeze plug? Head gasket? Other hose at the back of the engine?
It's nothing at the front. Not the radiator or either hose like I hoped it would be.
It's running fine. No noticeable compression loss. 273K miles.
Will check water level when cooled a bit. Overflow still has antifreeze in it.
I have a antifreeze leak at the rear of the engine. You can see it dripping on the ground. After looking for I was unable to find a leak.
View 1 RepliesBought a new 2012 end of February. With 500 miles on it, my airbag light would not go off. Dealer said something had come unplugged. Ok, things happen. This Saturday, there was green antifreeze on the garage floor. Took to dealer. Said there's a crack in the thermostat housing. Ordered a new one. Came in this morning. Called and said there's a problem with the "elbow" in the housing too. They didn't want to fix just the housing alone, so ordered the "elbow". I know nothing about a thermastat housing. I have 10,000 miles my Santa Fe. The service dept. said the airbag light was a recall. I checked it out and it's for older Santa Fe's, not 2012. Does this sound unusual to you?
View 2 RepliesCar leaks anitfreeze once again. The first time my hose exploded and my temperature light came on. Car was towed and my fans stopped working. Got that fixed. When this happened my car was on park. I turned on my fans and the fluid was leaking from the cap of the container. The whole anti freeze was everywhere. I am guessing something messed up in the engine so idk what to do anymore. I filled the anti freeze container with water and drove home with no problems. I don't know whats wrong with the car I am at the point where i just want to get rid of it. Car is a 99 vw golf gls 2.0 140k ....
View 6 RepliesAs I was about to pull onto the highway I noticed smoke coming from my engine. I pulled into my mechanic. The antifreeze was empty. He filled it but couldn't find a leak. The next day I found antifreeze on my garage floor. I brought it back but he still couldn't find a leak. He thought he might have spilled some when he filled it. It is now two weeks later and the antifreeze is still leaking. I see it when I pull out of and into my garage when I momentarily stop to open and close the door.
View 2 RepliesToday afternoon I started the Touareg and got a noise, check the hook and there was a lot of antifreeze on the front of the engine and the belt splatter all over the front of the engine.
Could not see where the leak was coming from, re started the engine there was a lot of antifreeze.
All temp where ok and oil showed no water on it.
Drove to dealer only a few miles away and when showed the engine the engine was dry just the splatter. Left it there for them to check tomorrow.
Could the water pump go bad, never replaced or noise? Have 110,000 miles on the car and just replaced belt a month ago.
I am hoping is not a leak on the head.
