Can use the iPod Interface Kit for my 2005 Avalon? It states "Either iPod or Sat Radio can be installed, not both". I do have the JBL Audio system but don't have the Satellite radio. It also mentions it works with the 2007 Avalon, aren't they pretty much the same, 2005-2007? URL...
View 11 RepliesI have a 2010 Jetta Sportwagen TDI with manual transmission. I'm really loving the heck out of it with only one real mechanical issue so far (a faulty Turbocharger Pressure Relief Valve). However, the RCD-510 has a truly horrible iPod interface. It's insanely slow, often won't show its "busy waiting" greyed out screen when it is cogitating forever about how to do its job and it fades up the beginning of every song resulting in the first half second of the song being lost.
Given how bad this is, I'm hoping that there's new firmware available for the RCD510 to correct these defects. Or, if not, where can I go to file bug reports? It's not clear who the real manufacturer is. It's also not clear how to tell what version of firmware it currently has or how one would upgrade to a newer version ..
Looking for complete silence from the head unit. Is there a mute button or something I'm missing? I know pushing the volume button mutes it, but is there anything else that mutes it. I am going to reinstall cd changer tonight, to go back to factory setup to see if the sound comes back. I hope the dice unit has not blown an amp or something.

View 1 RepliesThe VML I had in the car stopped working for no reason a while back and I figured that the unit may have gone bad since it was used before I got it. I checked all the connections first and figured it must be dead.
So then I ordered the iVIC-5i and hooked everything up and when I went to program the unit nothing happens on the screen. Like the radio isn't reading or getting a signal from that input or something now. The unit has power to it, the green and or yellow LEDs are on depending which way the switches are pointed but nothing happens on the screen. I called VAIS and after being on the phone with the tech support for 30-40 minutes they figured the unit was defective and sent me another one, and that's doing the same thing.
So I'm wondering what in the world could have happened since it used to work? Is there some setting in the radio that I can't find to turn on that input, or a fuse?
The Aux input on my 09 Corolla has started to malfunction.I plug my ipod into the auxiliary input and if the cable wobbles as i drive and hit bumps, the AUX mode switches over to RADIO mode and the radio starts to play, instead of the ipod. I have to wiggle the cable before i press the AUX button for it to start playing the ipod.

I've been using my iPhone 4S with no issues on my mdi interface, as well as Bluetooth. I figured I would use a older iPod which has a lot of memory and I could just leave it plugged in all the time on my mdi. The mdi cable that I have is 5N0 035 554 -B version.
My iPod 5G video, was on old firmware 1.0, so I updated it to 1.3 which is the last version that apple released. But still not luck with this device appearing on my RNS-315 media mdi input. Just to note that the iPod is configured as follows: Format = Windows, Enable disk use is selected.
Any tricks that I should try to get it working ? (iPod works fine, connects to my iMac without issue). When the mdi cable is plugged in, it is charging the device.
I have a second generation ipod and it will play when plugged in the car but nothing comes up on the screen. What type of interface comes up on the nav screen when a compatible 3rd, 4th, or 5th generation ipod is used. Also, am I correct that all new ipods are 6th generation and they're not compatible.
View 2 RepliesYesterday, my MDI decided it wasn't going to work properly anymore. I can plug in my iPod/iPhone and it charges the device however, it won't play any music from it. Furthermore, on the RNS510 screen, it just says "AUX" and the time underneath it.
View 9 RepliesI must be missing something obvious... I have a new GTI MkVI and love it dearly. My ipod plays well through the doohickey in the armrest. But I can't find any pause/stop/play controls anywhere. I listen to audiobooks a lot in the car, so really want to pause or stop the book while I make a call, or when I stop the car. The only way I have found to do that is to unplug the ipod, which is tiresome.

View 24 RepliesLoving the car, but I'm having an issue trying to get an older iPod (like iPod 2) to connect to my car. It keeps saying it can't recognize/connect to it. The iPod just continues to charge (even though it was just completely charged). I'm plugging it in using the USB inside of the console.

Is it okay to always leave my iPod connected to the MDI? I ask because I noticed it continues to charge my iPod even when the car is off. I don't want to hurt the battery if I leave my iPod connected 24/7. On the other hand, it would be a lot more convenient to leave it plugged in all the time.
View 3 RepliesI know what your thinking RTFM, but I did and so did the salesman but I cannot seem to get my IPod 160gig Classic to work. I turned it to FM inserted the IPod with screen facing right. Docked in the cradle which seems a little loose but it is docked and it does come on.
I then try and hit CD once and even twice both with and without a CD in the slot. But I cannot get anything from the IPod. I tried Aux but I believe that is the Aux port. Is there a setting in the setup?
Also can I use a 160gig Classic? In the manual it does not list that as a supported model. But I thought it was the same as a 60gig video Ipod. I purchased this IPod specifically for this car and really hope that it works as it is the only IPod that will fit all my music.

View 7 RepliesI got one of those iPod cables off eBay and hooked it up to my iPod nano today. It played music immediately, but I was not able to control the iPod through the dash or the steering wheel. Then I noticed that the eBay ad instructs you to connect the cable to the car first, turn the car on, then connect the iPod. I didn't do that the first time. An hour later, I tried it the right way. Same result. I just want to be able to control the iPod using the car stereo controls without having to handle the iPod itself.
