Avalon 2005-12 :: Water Leak Inside Rear Ceiling Corners
Mar 27, 2015
Just took 2005 Avalon XLS to place-they said all the sunroof drains are clear (4 drains in each corner). We have to bring it back. Leaks are located in rear corners on two back post and ceiling around rear window.
I noticed it a couple years ago but just thought it was glue that turned brown with age. Can't believe I didn't do anything then. Plus we park car up hill on our driveway with front pointed high.

My 2006 Sonata GLS 3.3 started dripping water the other day from the ceiling handle. The drain hoses do not appear to be plugged, water runs freely out. I pulled off the headliner around the place of the leak, and I can kind of see a plastic attachment with the drain hose on the corner of the sunroof frame. The water is coming from somewhere from it, but not from the hose attachment.
My question is, Do I have to replace the sunroof frame? Is it difficult to do? Or can I get away epoxying around the leak if it's small enough? In any case, how hard is it to remove the headliner?

My Avalon tranny slips a bit sometimes when going slow around corners and then accelerating. Also, it seems to downshift itself when going down an incline at 45 or 50 mph. When entering traffic on a freeway ramp and getting into passing gear, it seems to slip quite a bit before catching and taking off. Is all this normal? 55,000 on the car so soon to go out of warranty. BTW, can the dealer check this out with diagnostic equipment as I would bet they couldn't recreate the problem test driving....never fails!

I have a 2009 GS 350 AWD and this is my first issue I have had with my sunroof. It was raining this morning and we noticed that both rear corners of the sunroof have a steady drip leak. I opened and closed the glass as I figured it was a positioning issue but the leaks remain. I know there are drains but my guess is that the drains will not work fast enough for the water to drain (there is no other leaking and it is not leaking into the headliner yet).

Like a dummy I left my 2011 in drive overnight and didn't go out to drive it until this afternoon. It wouldn't start. Tried to jump it with a Camry and still would not start, but inside lights did come on. Do you think it's the battery? Should my next move be to get a car battery charger and try to charge it? Battery looks new. Car is less than a month old.

I recently purchased a 2010 Prius, model V with the "Advanced Technology Package".
Now just this morning though, after it rained last night, I took off and once I hit the break for the first time, water came pouring down out of the box that houses the little forward facing camera (near the rear view mirror). I was shocked. I'm wondering how that water makes it into the cabin. No sunroof here.

When I turned the AC on, I get water leak inside. The water dripped from inside of the center console where shifter sits right above.
The water sift into the driver carpet area and front passenger area. If I don't take up the mat, the inside smell like mildew.
I took the car to the dealer and they said the drainer is clogged by the leaves and the water from the AC gets back up into the cabin.

For the past couple of days i've had condensation on the windshields during cold mornings and nights and thought something was up. I looked around and found the carpet on the driver's side of my car is damp and there was a puddle of water directly underneath the seat. I've read it might be a clogged AC drain or something like that. Some solutions seem to be either blowing the AC drain underneath the car with compressed air to get rid of a clog, or finding the tube inside the car and properly reconnecting it incase it got dislodged or kinked somehow. Or does this sound like a different problem? Again only the driver's side carpet seems to be wet.

My 2010 F150 super crew cab is rusting from the inside out on both cab corners. I purchased my truck about 3 years ago with 75,000 miles on it. After about 3 months I noticed the 3rd brake light was leaking. I went to the dealer but they wouldn't warranty it due to the mileage. They did acknowledge that there was a problem with the 3rd brake lamp leaking and was willing to sell me new parts. So I repaired that ASAP. I don't how long is was leaking prior to that. Fast forward a couple years later the corners are starting to bubble. I am assuming this what caused the cab corners to rust.

Maybe I've been having too much fun in the rain... I've recently noticed an odd smell in the car and found a small wet spot underneath the passenger front floor mat, only to be followed by same in the rear passenger floor mat. I was hoping it won't happen again, but I found myself with the wet floor few weeks later after the rain.
I first thought it may be the bike rack (which I have posted in the earlier month) but seeing the location and occurence, it couldn't be from the rack. It was always the underneath the center of the freaking floor mat.
My R is at the dealer since yesterday, getting a full physical.. They're even talking about removing the headliner to make sure there is no internal leak from the roof.

Just purchased a used 2008 Avalon from my uncle. The car hasn't been driven much the past few years. I'm driving across country right now from Chicago to Seattle. We are about half way through the trip and I notice that the engine has what appears to be water dripping out near the center of it. I have checked the fluid levels and everything appears to be normal. The coolient is full. I have read that it could be the AC dripping water, however, it is a relatively cool day 45 degrees F at the moment and we just had the heat on in the car. Is this something I should be concerned about?

My 1996 Toyota Avalon runs great. However, it is starting to smell musty because rain water is somehow entering my rear passenger door. I have checked the seals and there does not appear to be any leaks where the water could be collecting. When I open the door, I hear water swishing inside the door. The mechanic drilled holes in the bottom of the door but water still stays in the door. I would like to keep my car for several more years. I placed 4 Damp Rid containers on the back seat and they collect water! I replace them every time it rains.

I understand the TSB for this issue relates to 2005 and 2006 model Avalons. what's your best guess in terms of how common the timing cover oil leak problem is on '05s and '06s? 20%? 80%?

I did a search but found nothing on a coolant leak. My 07 (57K) has developed a leak on the passengers side of the engine. Not sure if its the water pump (not making noise) or the themostat housing as a mechanic who took a very quick look at it suggested. How hard it is to get to the thermostat housing? Anything else have to come off? I don't have a FSM.

Seems like since I did the first oil filter change it seemed very hard to get off oil filter. Today I did about the 5th filter change and it was harder than the last time. Thought i was going to break something. I do snug it up so there is no gap between the engine block and top of filter canister. Should I back it off a turn or 2 and check for leaks, maybe that is what that retainer clip is for near the top of the filter canister to stop it from coming undone so you don't have to snug it up?

I have a used 2005 Avalon with 65,000 miles. I posted earlier that, after a sudden VVTi oil hose leak, my engine was making a loud ticking noise at certain RPM's and needs engine work to repair the lifters. So far Toyota was only willing to do the recall and not pay for the engine damage because it is 5,000 miles out of warranty.
A customer relations representative at a Toyota dealer provided me with a vehicle history, and I was shocked to see that the VVTi hose had already been replaced at 33,000 miles after the same type of oil leak.
My battle with Toyota is still ongoing and, quite frankly, I expect to lose. I am going to get the car repaired and get rid of it (at considerable loss --I cannot in good conscious sell it or trade it knowing it has engine damage without disclosing it, though my dealer had no problem with it). I will never buy another Toyota after buying 5 new ones in the last decade.
I am posting as a warning -- even though you may have had the oil line recall done, do not assume that you have nothing to worry about. If they replaced a rubber hose with another rubber hose as they did in mine, you have a ticking time bomb.

I took my wife's 2010 tig for a drive after washing it this morning and noticed water on the rear window so I turned on the rear wiper. Well, to my dismay, the wiper didn't clean the water off because it was on the inside. I noticed water streaks on the inside part of the rear window a few weeks ago but I figured it was from condensation. It wasn't one or 2 drops, it was leaking down across the whole back window. I assume it is a seal but wanted to see if this is an identified issue.

I bought a new dash cam for the 2012 TCH. I've placed it in front of the rear view mirror and want to run the power cable to the fuse box. I don't want to wire it in to the light or homelink since those are "hot" all the time, and I want my dashcam powered completely off when the car is stopped (I have a device I can wire in that enables it to stay on, but that device is way too big to fit in the car ceiling anyway).
Is it possible to run a wire up from the rearview mirror area, through the car ceiling, and down the windshield/front door post (where the curtain airbag is)? Obviously, I don't want to mess up the curtain airbag.

Think this is a Gen5 thing, but both of my 2004 Camry (XLE V6 and SE I4 specifically) has this issue. My XLE V6 is more obvious versus the SE I4, but seems to be following the same path. Guess even with car tint, our hot weather has worn this headliner edge. I have not suffered from the crumbling rear speaker cover though.
Thinking of getting some 3M adhesive spray and try see if I can apply it manually (maybe to a cotton pad or sponge then to headliner) to put some on the edges to keep it from getting worst.

Today afternoon I started the Touareg and got a noise, check the hook and there was a lot of antifreeze on the front of the engine and the belt splatter all over the front of the engine.
Could not see where the leak was coming from, re started the engine there was a lot of antifreeze.
All temp where ok and oil showed no water on it.
Drove to dealer only a few miles away and when showed the engine the engine was dry just the splatter. Left it there for them to check tomorrow.
Could the water pump go bad, never replaced or noise? Have 110,000 miles on the car and just replaced belt a month ago.
I am hoping is not a leak on the head.

Just recently I discover that the carpet behind the driver seat was soaking wet. I lift the carpet, dried the best I could and now I am trying to determine if the water is making it's way from the the back (back door seal) or from the firewall area.
If the water from the firewall can make it's way to the rear of the car ? Seems to me that it's not from the firewall because floor under the driver's seat is deeper and does not seem to have a water puddle in there.... but the insulation under the carpet is wet....
