I have found the OE tires are very noisy at lower speeds. They are Michelin Energy. I have Michelin Primacy MXV4 on my 2008 Avalon and they are very quiet. Is there a solution other than replacing them?
View 14 RepliesMy Avalon has 55,000 miles on it. when it is idling the motor seems to be very noisy. to me this isn't normal my service rep says there should be no problems if there is no check engine light on.
Should not be as noisy with such low mileage. dealers says if there is no problem and that is the way it is they will charge me for the diagnostic fee. seems like it's not right the way it sounds so what is everybody's opinion on this issue. Oil level is up and very good so just wondering if it could be very variable valve timing solenoid making noise.
I recently got new Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires mounted on new OEM Toyota rims and am noticing my 2012 Avalon pulls slightly to the left. This car is the first front wheel drive car I have ever owned & am wondering if this is somewhat normal. It did not seem to do this when I had the old tires(Michelin Energy MXV4) tires with the original rims. It is not THAT bad but I DO notice it. My current mileage is 36k.

Today when I rotated all five Turanza tires (RF > SP, RR > RF, SP > RR, swap L, as per the manual), I noticed the left tires (only) have exaggerated outer edge wear. All three from the right have even wear.
Wifey says it's because I weigh 400 lbs (181kg) and am generally driving alone. When I'm not alone, my passengers are all normal weight. This would be the first time in my life my weight cause uneven wear to tires.
By the way, these tires are LOUD on certain road surfaces.
My steering wheel on my 2012 Avalon Limited began shaking above 65 mph immediately after the tires were rotated for the first time. The balance was checked, and two new tires were installed. That did not fix the problem. The car also seems to pull to the right. Wondering if the problem are the tires, or an alignment issue.
View 1 RepliesMy '05 Ford Explorer Limited 4WD has an odd quirk. It only happens when the cruise is on at lower speeds, 30-40 MPH. I'm driving along and all of a sudden the truck shuts down. No accelerator. no power steering, dash all lit up. I wrestle the truck to the side of the road, turn the key off and then re-start it. Turns over, runs no problem. The truck runs great otherwise, has 67K on it.
View 2 RepliesI ask because my father's 08 Avalon is pulsing during braking at highway speeds but only sometimes. When it does it we can feel it in the steering wheel. I suspected maybe one of the caliper pins was seizing. So I pulled the front wheels. The pads and rotors look great. I removed the pins, cleaned and greased them. On the test drive it pulsed two times for me but was totally smooth on the rest of the drive.
View 6 RepliesIt's a metal on metal rattle sound when I'm going slower speeds and paved residential streets that are a little rough. passenger front is where it seems to be coming from. I can almost know when it's going to do it when I'm coming up on a rough spot on the road. super frustrating. Started noticing if after my mechanic replaced both front springs when my driver side spring broke. Took it back to him and he couldn't hear it and made sure everything was tight. What it could be. Thought maybe stabalizer link but not sure how to tell if it's bad.

I have a '13 Camry as well, and love this Avalon.
I still have the original Pirelli Scorpion tires on my 2010 Touareg (30,100 Miles). For the last year or so the tires have become extremely noisy. Before the warranty expired I made the dealer check to make sure there is nothing wrong with the wheel bearings or the drive train and of course they told me everything is fine. I had an alignment done about 3,000 Miles ago since the tires showed a little uneven wear.

View 7 RepliesMy rear tires (Nokian) on my Subaru Legacy 1999 all wheel drive car are noisy and chopped after only 18,000 miles (tires were in front for 4,000 miles; at that point I had to get two new tires which were put in front). My mechanic does not recommend rotation so they haven't been rotated. No, I don't know why. So now they are chopped but have lots of tread.

View 2 RepliesI might be buying a 14 Camry tomorrow. I test drove it the other day and had it looked at by belle tire. They said the rear tires are choppy causing noisy driving. On the highway it sounds really noisy in the front of the vehicle. Everything else checked ok on the inspection but I was trying to find some wheels that will fit the Camry. 5x114 which my parents have a 95 lexus es300 that has 5x114 wheels. Although the tires are 205 65 15. Do I could put those on and will they clear everything to be able to fit?

How in general do I approach this? For the past few weeks my mpg was low, barely making it into low 40's. So, I wonder if the tire pressure can affect the mpg.
Just got rid of my 2011 Audi a4 for 2012 Elantra Limited with tech pkg. I like the car a lot but man is it noisy at highway speeds. Really makes phone calls and radio listening difficult.
View 25 RepliesSo, my FWD car has 3 tires that are getting close to replacement tread depth, and one that is only about half worn--it had to be replaced partway thru due to unrepairable damage. The question is whether this amount of difference in tread--maybe 1/8 inch--matters. I could buy 3 and save money or buy 4 and put one away for a good reserve tire. (The spare is different).

On certain rough concrete, or more often asphalt road surfaces, at highway speeds, this car is so noisy that one can hardly carry on a conversation. It's terribly loud. Dealer has "checked" it, and tire dealer has looked at the tires. No problem has been found. What can be done about this?
