I am new to the toyota brand and the avalon. I am trying to learn as much as i can ..so my question is i want to do a tune up to my wife's car ... and I am noticing a slight wining noise coming from the car as you accelerate i remember seeing a post on that a little while back but I can't seem to find it ....
View 4 RepliesKind of stuck on a slight noise from the drive train on our 2007 Avy. It is not engine noise at a certain RPM it is from rolling at speed. I first rotated the tires and there was no difference at all. I thought it sounded like a CV going out so I replaced the left shaft. No luck. I could still hear it as it increases from nothing being stopped to being able to be felt slightly in the steering wheel either traveling straight or turning the worst between 60 and 65 MPH.
I replaced the right CV shaft and noticed slight wear in the support bearing and the support bearing bracket pinch bolt's rubber pad was worn in half. Ok, new CV shaft, new pinch bolt, tightened to specs, no luck. Ok, onto wheel bearings. I could still feel it in the steering wheel and it "sounded" like it was coming from the left side. I even rode as a passenger and moved about trying to get a better idea where it was coming from. I was convinced it was on the left so I pressed out the old bearing and installed new. No luck, same sound at the same speeds.
I replace the right wheel bearing (replacing a front wheel bearing on this car is not a fun job). Slightly better but still there. It's a subtle noise now but at the same speeds. I guess it could be a rear wheel bearing assembly but maybe I am missing something obvious.
Every now and then, when I cruise around in 1st in my 97 C1500 I can hear a slight whining. What it is?
View 2 RepliesI have an 05 avalon. There has always been this rattling noise from the rear deck lid (i suppose). The noise is so annoying. I suspect its coming from that deck lid. I also have a buzzing rear electric shade that has refused to go down. Just removed the fuse
View 1 RepliesThe other day I noticed that my '07 avalon was making some new noises. It's most noticeable once I get up about 15-20 mph and then very little touch the accelerator. It's sort of rotary noise that seems to be tied to the engine speed. Kind of like something rubbing that wasn't before. I also notice it when coming to a stop, foot of the accelerator, just braking the noise slows down. It seems even a bit louder when stopping.
View 3 RepliesI have a 2005 Avalon Limited. A couple of weeks ago I put the car in reverse and I started hearing this loud buzzing noise coming from the rear window area. I narrow it down to the rear window sunshade. It also makes this noise when pressing the button to lower the shade and maybe sometimes rising it. I know it has something to do with the relay or motor when the signal is sent to it to lower it, because a lower the shade signal is sent when the car is put into reverse or button is pushed. How to find the motor or relay without taking the rear seat out. Right now I would rather just disconnect it to stop the annoying buzzing noise. Where can I find a service/maintence manual to maybe find out how to disconnect it.
View 14 RepliesI have an 06 Avalon that I just went through heck to change the plugs on but I did it. It did not clear my check engine light and actually it is blinking now and I still have the slight shudder like the car is losing power. Should I have changed the coils and if I do will this eliminate the problem? I am getting a bunch of misfire error codes and I am trying to eliminate these issues one at a time.
View 1 RepliesI have a 2005 Limited and when I start there's a slight hesitation then the power comes on. Also, when I let off the gas and the car slow's to about 20 and below there's a little "reverse surge." The power starting out and decel'ing isn't linear. It's got a little hiccup.
View 1 RepliesI've got a 2008 Avalon with about 136,000 miles on it. Lately the hvac fan has been making a slight ticking sound that increases/decreases with the change in fan speed on the ac/heater setting. The other week it just didn't work all together until I tapped it lightly and it started back up. The ticking is starting to get worse.
I'm thinking of replacing this myself as the dealership wants about 400 for this and I can get a replacement fan assembly for about 120 online. Do I just remove the glove box and crawl in the passenger floor board area to do this or am I looking at some dash removal?
My 2012 Avalon developed a slight rattle at 9000 miles that continued to get worse. I took off the right front wheel today and found the top caliper bolt partially loosened. I could turn it with my FINGERS! The other one was tight as were the ones on the left side.
To diagnose this rattle, find a bumpy road that makes it rattle. Put your foot lightly on the brake (to load the caliper). If the noise goes away, it is probably a loose caliper bolt.
I've been having a lot of noise coming from the front left tire, and I finally had it diagnosed as a bad wheel bearing today.
I noticed that the front wheel bearings are sold individually while the rear wheel bearings are sold as hub assemblies. Is there a certain way that the front wheel bearings have to be removed and pressed on? I'm trying to see if this is a DIY repair.
I have a 2008 ford f150 4.7 liter 4x2 & the problem I am having is when coming to a stop when I accelerate there is a slight shimmy in back end or could be described as a vibration for just a few seconds and then you don't feel it anymore until you come to a stop & restart. Once you have pulled off it will not do it anymore out on road. I checked fluid & it is not low in back end. Transmission shifts good so what could cause this.
View 2 Repliesi recently bought a 2008 vw passat vr6 4motion and i dont know if its just with me but the engine makes a annoying wining noise when i start moving(hitting the gas) no more than 2000 rpm. and i have got some bad mileage. i drove only 31 miles with a quarter of a tank. and that was grandma driving. i do not step on the gas more than 2000-2200 rpm.
View 7 RepliesSo out of nowhere my car made a loud whistling/wining noise when i started it up in the morning last saturday. i applied some pressure to the clutch and it went away. talked with a vw master-tech buddy of mine and he said it possibly might be the slave/throwout bearing, but couldn't tell me until the car is opened up for inspection.
Fast forward to this morning, car ran fine and the noise was intermittent. get to a stoplight and the clutch pedal travel was 1/2 what it usually is. made another shift and the pedal fell to the floor. i was able to limp it to my jobs parking lot.
Now as we all know, this isn't an inexpensive repair and while the trans is open would be the optimal time for a clutch replacement. However, the clutch felt fine with no slippage prior to this hiccup. I am opting to just replace parts that are no longer functioning, but if i need to replace the clutch. which kit(s) should i consider? my car is a daily driven with occasional runs thru the mountains and canyons.
My mods: blue haldex controller/miltek catback/neuspeed pulleys/neuspeed chip/vf mounts/among other suspension upgrades.
2007 Gen 111, with 148000 miles. Recently I notice the master warning light coming on occasionally when I am braking. I do not have to be braking hard but it seems to show up more often with the engine brake on. Read out on the top of the screen reads "Problem". I am not finding much of anything in the book on this. It did this for a few times a few thousand miles ago and then did not do it for awhile and now it does it again occasionally, but more often. IF it gets bad I'll take it in but otherwise I figure on waiting until the 150K maintenance.
View 4 RepliesFew weeks ago I bought my first Lexus, an '07 GX 470. It has roughly 75,000 miles on it, 2 previous owners before me. Anyway, I hear a noise sometimes which either sounds like a slight belt slip or fuel being pumped into the injectors when I give it a good amount of gas and the engine downshifts to accelerate. I had the dealer replace the drive belt(serpentine belt) because of 2 reasons, it needed to be replaced and I thought that could be the problem(I did not have to pay for it since I have had some problems with the Lexus dealership I bought it from, they did it as a "goodwill" gesture, that's a story for another thread) and inspect the tensioner and pulleys, they said the pulleys and tensioner were in good working order.
I drove the GX home tonight after said replacement, and I still noticed the same noise. The best I can describe it is like I said above, a slight belt slipping noise or it could also be described I guess as fuel being injected under acceleration as soon as the trans downshifts to accelerate. I am just curious if this is normal for this engine or do I have a possible problem? It's covered under the Lexus used car warranty for another 5 months so if there is something wrong, obviously I would like it fixed under warranty if something is wrong. One thing I should probably mention is, the noise is semi quiet and I guess the average person might not even notice it.
I've had a 2012 Limited for a few months now and love it, especially the quiet nature of the interior cabin. Ironically it was because of that I started to hear a noise that has become quite irritating. It was clearly coming from the CD / Navigation system and began (or at least that's when I first noticed it) after I installed a music CD for the first time. The noise sounded like the CD player was constantly searching for a CD so I filled all 4 CD slots, but the noise continued. I called my dealer and of course they have never heard of this issue before (do they take classes and rehearse that line, they deliver it so convincingly no matter how ridiculous it makes them look!) I have now removed the Navi DVD and that is clearly the source as the noise has stopped. My question, is this normal or do I have a service issue here?

View 8 RepliesMy car has been doing that on and off for a while. Sometimes it can go without that annoying squeak for a month or so, then come back and disappear again. There is nothing like it would only do that on high/low rpms or when the AC is turned on for example. The noise just comes whenever it wants to. Today I had a chance to capture it.

I was trying to listen to the bearings with mechanic's stethoscope and it seems that the tensioner is the loudest one. But if that bearing was bad it would make the noise all the time..
Ok...I've been reading about Michelin tires on the forum and unfortunately, I just bought my 07' Limited with a brand new set of Kelly "Charger" Tires. So, I took a trip last week and noticed at 55-73 mph, the car rides nice, smooth, and quiet. However, when I hit 74 or 75 mph, I began hearing a road noise that sounds as if the tires have hit a certain oscillatory air resonance at this speed.
I'm wondering if it's due to the tire tread pattern or something else. Strangest damn thing. When I accelerate faster, the noise seems to diminish a little but still isn't smooth and quiet. Maybe I'm just drowning it out some while it accelerates. When I bring it back down below 74 mph, it goes nice and quiet again.
I have the tire pressures set at 40 psi (trying to get a little extra fuel mileage). However, I'm wondering if this might cause the problem...I believe the pressure should be between 35-38 psi. My TPMS light hasn't lit up, so I guess it doesn't see fault with an extra 2 psi. Anyway, the tires appear to be a quality tire. I looked they show the following ratings.
Went to start my '11 - -maybe still w/ original battery...made a chatter noise and now no crank - -no start. Is this the battery dead ? I'd even guess maybe the starter's stuck ? I've got it on a slow charge... I had the ' Maint Req.' lite on- - thought it was for an oil change ?
