I have a 2005 limited with 45000 miles. It sits in the garage most of the time. A couple of days ago I went shopping and I noticed the area around the passenger airbag was shiny. I could only see it when the sun hit just right. I wonder if it is the defective dash.
View 2 RepliesIt's from rain, but only getting to the front passenger floor area. And this just started in the last month. Decades ago I had a VW Rabbit that would get serious water, in all 4 quadrants, in rain or a car wash. But I figured that one out, the "gutter" in front of the windshield was jammed up with dead leaves, once those were cleared, no more water coming in.
So, when this Avalon leak appeared, that was the first area I checked. There was a bit of leaves and twigs, which I cleared away, but the worst of it was on the drivers's side and as I mentioned, no problem there.
I have a 2007 Avalon with 134000 miles. It makes a soft tap noise around the drive belt area. The drive belt looks good. I only hear this noise a slow idle. What do you think ?
View 3 RepliesI have the annoying "clicking noise" with my certified used 2008 Avalon XLS. It only occurs after the car has been sleeping overnight or after five hours or so of not the running. So this is normal according to two dealers and that I need to watch it but it isn't an issue- normal. Still, it does not leave me feeling good about it. The car has 56k miles and it is smooth, quiet and responsive, just that "ticking". It does go away after 15 minutes or so of driving. They told me why it's happening and I found some answers here, on the forum.
My question is- will it get worse? Will Toyota only address it when the "ticking" gets loud and does not go away and I'm pushing smoke from the tail pipes?
I've been reading up on the LSC 90K recall with the defective VVT-i oil line. How can I find out if my Avalon has had the oil line replaced? Just a bit confused about if any records should exist for this and where I can find out.
When I purchased the 09 XLS last year the seller told me the trunk/cargo light didn't work and I assumed it was a bulb. The bulb could have come in handy several times so I attempted a repair. I removed the bulb and it seemed to be ok, but I decided to replace it will a new 2825 and it also didn't work. I'll assume there is no dedicated fuse specifically for the trunk/cargo light so I guess there must be a break in the line.
Is this common for the Avalon in our generation? It's too cold to diagnose so I'll have to wait for warmer weather unless it's an easy repair.
I have a 2005 Avalon Limited. A couple of weeks ago I put the car in reverse and I started hearing this loud buzzing noise coming from the rear window area. I narrow it down to the rear window sunshade. It also makes this noise when pressing the button to lower the shade and maybe sometimes rising it. I know it has something to do with the relay or motor when the signal is sent to it to lower it, because a lower the shade signal is sent when the car is put into reverse or button is pushed. How to find the motor or relay without taking the rear seat out. Right now I would rather just disconnect it to stop the annoying buzzing noise. Where can I find a service/maintence manual to maybe find out how to disconnect it.
View 14 RepliesI've been having this ongoing clunk in the front of my 06 Avalon for about a month now. When I slightly hit the brake i'm getting almost a metal on metal clunk sound from right in front of the drivers side wheel area, or possibly on the other side wheel well area, and not sure if its related but a popping noise when i turn my wheel a certain way it seems.
Replaced:
Both CV axles
Both Rotors
Both transmission mount and engine mount (left and right side)
Dog Bone torque bar on top
Drivers side caliper
Control arms
Struts were replaced 6 months ago, and reused old mounts, so I took it out and replaced the strut mount with the bearing on passenger side only.
Control arms have been replaced 4 or 5 times in 6 months because they keep cracking, they are being installed correctly and still having the issue, they're slightly cracked right now (many tiny little rips in the rubber rear bushing of the front control arms) perhaps this is the problem and they're flexing too far? They're Dorman and ordered off of amazon. I have 2 replacement ones arriving tomorrow and will throw them in.
124k miles. I have had multiple shops look at it and cant figure it out, they said everything is tight. One shop said it was internal transmission.
I noticed today in my new to me 2007 that the dash is lifted a little where the airbag is on the passenger side. Should I be concerned?
View 12 RepliesMy 2001.5 1.8T GLX wagon, 102,000 miles, occasionally exhibits a sort of "creak" in the passenger side dash area when the car is turned or "yanked" from side to side. It sounds like it's coming from the passenger airbag cover, but this may not be the case. It sounds like pieces of plastic rubbing against each other, as opposed to metallic pieces. What this might be?

I sometimes get that noise while driving over bumps, but oddly, I usually tend to get it when I accelerate and get the engine at a specific RPM (like some sort of resonance frequency issue?!?). What could cause this?
On my 2006 The air flow from the heater always comes from the dash vents no matter where the control is set. What is needed to correct this?
View 14 RepliesI noticed for the last couple weeks, my wife's 05 Limited has developed some kind of buzzing sound around the dash on start up.
In the morning, once I get in and press engine start, there is a buzzing, d...zzz..d....d..zzz.zzz.... noise coming from the dash area. I turned the car off and restart, it went away. It happened once a while. This morning, same noise, I kept on driving, probably after 30 sec, it stopped..
I've had my Avalon at the Toyota shop more than 12 times with the same problem...a/c light on dash flashes off and on. The A/C system shuts down. Sometimes the command center says check A/C.
We have gone through the replace game, compressor twice, relay four times, too much refrigerant-to little refrigerant multiple times and loose wire multiple times.
This is supposed to be a Toyota Certified car if that means anything. The car has 86,000 miles.
On our 2005 V8, we had an airbag fault message come up, and the "PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF" light lit up. We had the code cleared, and everything has been fine. Is there any way to prevent this light coming on? Our mechanic said that it can be caused by taking your safety belt off before the vehicle is stopped, but I wanted to know if there is any other causes of this fault. We have decided to not move the passenger seat at all, just in case there is a wire broken or a loose connection.

View 7 RepliesWhere another 09 owner had what he thought was a cold weather related squeak coming from the passenger side dash / windshield area. Mine does this and it's highly annoying. Here's what I've observed:
- seems to happen in cold temps, though I can't say what "cold" is...<40F perhaps?
- noticeable over bumps or whenever the car frame twists as a result of uneven road surface
- source seems to be the dash / windshield interface on the passenger side
- it's *possible* it may be coming from the top of the windshield as well
- it's very noticeable and highly irritating
Either with an 09 or earlier model? I cut a pool noodle and shoved it down between the glass and dash hoping the pressure would relieve whatever is rubbing. It appeared to work until the temps dropped into the 20s. Then it returned. I have a 2009 GLS, 5MT Sonata.
I did a search but found nothing on a coolant leak. My 07 (57K) has developed a leak on the passengers side of the engine. Not sure if its the water pump (not making noise) or the themostat housing as a mechanic who took a very quick look at it suggested. How hard it is to get to the thermostat housing? Anything else have to come off? I don't have a FSM.
View 14 RepliesWe have a 2005 Avalon. The rear passenger door appeared to "stick occasionally, trouble opening or closing. Now the door is closed and we cannot open it. It seems like it is locked. Since it is not open, it appears that access to the door interior is very difficult.
View 3 RepliesFront passenger seat rattles when the road is rough. Didn't notice it last week but it is noisy today. When I put my hand between the seat and center console, the sound stops. Is this common for a new Avalon? Is it an easy fix?
View 8 RepliesIt's a metal on metal rattle sound when I'm going slower speeds and paved residential streets that are a little rough. passenger front is where it seems to be coming from. I can almost know when it's going to do it when I'm coming up on a rough spot on the road. super frustrating. Started noticing if after my mechanic replaced both front springs when my driver side spring broke. Took it back to him and he couldn't hear it and made sure everything was tight. What it could be. Thought maybe stabalizer link but not sure how to tell if it's bad.
