My 2006 Avalon Limited idles rough at times (at stop lights). Should I get a fuel system cleaning done? It has 52k miles and has probably not been done in the past. Would a fuel system cleaning work with rough idle? Can I do this myself or do I need to take it to the dealer?
View 13 RepliesMy vehicle has started to idle very rough, stuttering and almost dies at stop lights. It hesitates when accelerating, and really shakes and rattles if the AC is turned on. The check engine light and EPC lights are on. And even letting the foot off the brake in drive causes it to jerk along. I am up around 65k miles and have not had too many issues other than a fuel pump getting replaced last year. (the dealer first started replacing and charging me for many other items) I am scared to go back without trying to trouble shoot it myself.
What it could be and if there is anything I can try to correct it myself?
My 2011 Elantra has a slightly rough idle at stop lights. It doesn't happen ever time, and some people probably wouldn't even notice it, but at every few/several stops it idles a bit rough. When I recently had it in to Hyundai service for the ECM update, I asked them to take a look at it. Of course, they couldn't replicate it at the time, so they couldn't do anything to address it directly. The service manager asked if it happens when the A/C is on or off. While I didn't know the answer at the time, it seems to happen with it both on or off. He did say that the ECM update may address/fix the issue, but unfortunately it didn't. While it's not a big problem, it's a minor annoyance I'd like to get fixed (as I need to enjoy my ride at all times.
View 220 RepliesOK, I just got done replacing the alternator on the wife's 05 escape 3.0 V6, after it started on fire. The 3 wire plug was melted onto the alternator, so I had to replace the pigtail. I'm 99.9% sure that I got the wires in the right place. But now, after putting it all back together, it idles sporadically, when I drive it seems almost like it's trying to start out in 2nd gear, and shifts oddly. And there are no dash lights or gauges. Headlights work fine. And everything worked normally before I took it apart.
View 1 RepliesJust got the car and every time I stop and restart the car the clock reset to 1:00. everything else works fine and nothing else resets. no fuses are blown, etc. Radio presets and memory seats keep their settings. called the dealer and they are supposed to be getting back to me.
View 14 RepliesI have a 2005 Avalon LTD and the gas mileage dropped from 24+ to 18 seemingly overnight. I don't have a check engine light on. The car seems to be running fine. The only thing I notice is that when sitting at a light or just with the car idling, the avg mpg just keeps dropping. I just had filled the tank and it reset to 12.1 mpg and I sat there for a couple minutes with it idling, and the avg mpg dropped to 9.1. BTW, the car has 132000 miles. Spark plugs changed at 100K, PVC at 105K.
View 13 RepliesMy check engine light came on in my 06 toyota avalon. i had the code read at pepboys and they said it was something like 0300 misfire. i took it a few days later to my personal mechanic and he said nothing popped up when he tested the code. i notice the car (engine) is running a little rough though. What is the firing pattern as i want to try and fix by putting new plugs and coils.

View 8 RepliesThe other day I noticed that my '07 avalon was making some new noises. It's most noticeable once I get up about 15-20 mph and then very little touch the accelerator. It's sort of rotary noise that seems to be tied to the engine speed. Kind of like something rubbing that wasn't before. I also notice it when coming to a stop, foot of the accelerator, just braking the noise slows down. It seems even a bit louder when stopping.

Tried to jump it with a Camry and still would not start, but inside lights did come on. Do you think it's the battery? Should my next move be to get a car battery charger and try to charge it? Battery looks new. Car is less than a month old.
View 9 RepliesWhile hooking up some tempory trailer lights. I lost all brake lights. No fuses blown one mechanic tells me its the brake light switch. I can see it disco the wire but can't get it out to test, how it comes out. Also my vcs abs and traction lights are on. Local parts store wants 132.00 for it.

Would you say it is time to replace the Coil for this cylinder, or should I do more troubleshooting first?
From what I've read on this forum, it appears cylinders 1, 3 & 5 are at the rear of the engine and are a PITA to change. Is there a good write-up or video on how to change these at the rear of the engine?
So I had my rear bumper removed and repainted..since then it has developed a rattle on certain lights bumps on the road.

I checked and yes I'd left the light switch on, and yes the car had shut them off correctly - but will it also turn them on and then start the car ? Seems like a needless strain on the battery .
View 2 RepliesI am driving a 2007 Avalon XLS with about 71,000 miles. These lights came on together yesterday. After consulting this forum, I checked the gas cap and found it was indeed loose (or at least had not been engaged with any of the "required" three clicks.) I closed the gas cap tightly and restarted the car. The lights promptly came back on.
I drove to AutoZone where someone pulled the codes: P0306 and P0356. They gave me a printout suggesting the number 6 cylinder was misfiring (P0306) and an ignition coil circuit fault (P0356).
Was installing my new radio and somehow the lights for the buttons wont come on when the headlights are on. Is there a fuse i can check? Where is it located? I checked under the hood but i didn't see a fuse for dash lights.
View 2 RepliesHave a 2007 Avalon, original owner. For past 3 winters, when temp is 10F or less, there is a loud clicking sound when the car turns left from a stop. The frequency of the clicking sound increases as the car accelerates. Once the car makes the turn, the sound stops. In extremely cold weather (0F or less) the noise happens when turning right, but less intense. The clicking usually goes away after driving several miles and will return after sitting outside overnight or for 4 or 5 hours if the temp is below 10F. Dealer claims all of the CV joints are good. I drove it with a tech this morning and it was clearly present.

To begin, she has 95,000mi, an although that's about a year old, a duralast gold battery about the same age, and 13.8 volts at idle on the meter at the battery. The problem, over the past couple of weeks, I'll start it and drive off as normal, an the thing wants to stall for about two seconds. After that, no problem whatsoever. One time, it actually did stall on me, and everything went dead for a couple of minutes, no juice whatsoever; noticed that even the clock in the radio read 12:00. After a few minutes, I tried to turn the key again, and it started right up. This a.m., I went to start the van, and it initially would not turn over. The started motor turned but in a weak manor. At that point we went completely dead again, no electricity whatsoever.
The strangest thing is what happened next, I pulled the hood latch release as I was about to investigate and noticed the guages on the dash move when I did, power was back. The van then started but barely, and when it did it stumbled for a few seconds before driving off without so much as a hiccup the rest of the day. The only other possibly related symptom would be a slight rough idle combined with a just noticeable dimming of the dash lights in the dark at idle. Also, I should mention that I have checked the battery terminals and they are tight and clean, the van is in excellent shape mechanically, averaging 20mpg combined, smooth acceleration, no leaks, "using oil", white or black smoke, etc. Plugs, cap, rotor, and pcv are recent. Egr and maf are both clear.
I have a 2006 Avalon and I accidentally touch two wires on one of the DRL lights and it blew out I changed the bulb and still nothing, which fuse operates them? I check the owners manual and did see any fuse that runs the DRL.
View 8 RepliesI had a burned out left low beam headlight on my 2007 Toyota Avalon XLS yesterday. I have the halogen (2006) type bulbs. Today I purchased two new low beam bulbs and installed both sides new while I was at it. I had disconnected the battery and replaced both bulbs. Now the headlights (both hi and low beam) work perfectly in the auto as well as on manual mode, however my fogs lights now don't work. The fog lights worked last night prior to replacement of the low beam bulbs. So I checked for continuity of the fuse and both fog light bulbs and all were OK.
